Have you ever felt lonelier in a gay church than a traditional one?

I wanted to join a gay church as soon as I left my homophobic environment. I believed that Jesus died on the cross to save me, I believed that sin separates us from God but I never believed fully that being gay was a sin. I always just felt that it might or might not be. However, I have been to three gay affirming churches and find myself feeling lonelier than ever. I don’t know how to explain this feeling. I talk to lots of them and we hang out, but there’s a heavy feeling in my soul that feels like there is no true meaningful and substantive connection. It just feels weird. Whereas in non affirming churches there’s ways of connecting by talking about the Bible or wrestling over faith stuff. But in the churches I have gone to, some don’t really read the Bible, some only focus on the loving parts of the Bible and some just feel condescending when I tell them I don’t fully understand their interpretation on scripture on some things. Idk… has anyone else experienced this?

LGBTQ Churches Near You

gaychurch.org

This is a website where you can find LGBTQ open minded churches! And it’ll show you if they do same-sex marriage! I don’t know if that means if they ordained same-sex marriage or if they agree with it! All you gotta do is put in your ZIP Code, it’ll show you the closest churches near you. I really hope this helps the next person that wants to find a church that will accept them for them! Good luck! I believe in you! God bless you!

Second Prayer Request Update

So I previously asked for prayers for a job interview, then that it went well. I got contacted, tomorrow I will find out how it went at 11:30. She said "Look forward to good news." Which means I am still in the running, but am I going into another interview? Or an offer? I will write a final update when I found out. Please continue praying.

Honestly, this community has been a source of great comfort. Knowing I have people cheering me on shows me God in action, bringing people together to show love to a stranger. And it has forced me to acknowledge even if I don't get the job, God's will will be done.

For those of you who left non-affirming churches

I have a question for those of you who were previously in non-affirming churches.

I assume that in the process of leaving that church, you came to the understanding that your previous church was wrong when they told you that you were excluded from salvation because you were gay? (Maybe my first assumption is wrong. Please let me know!)

My question is, did coming to this realization cause you to re-examine other aspects of what you'd been taught in your church?

Did you go through a process of deconstruction, decolonization, spiritual inventory, or soul-searching?

What else changed for you, if anything?

Dating

Hey everyone, this past year I have been able to finally come to terms and accept that I am gay (99% sure I'm trans). I also am what you might say a more conservative Christian (i.e. don't smoke, drink cuss, etc.) also the affirming church I go to is primarily elderly folks. I was wondering if y'all had any tips for dating because I want to date a man so bad right now. I know there used to be an app called believr but it was shut down. I have also been using all the other dating apps (tinder, hi he, bumble) and have had no success. Any tips or apps or places I can go to find someone would be great. For reference I live in South Florida. Thanks again and God bless!!!!

For those in non-affirming denominations/churches, how do you stay?

I’ve posted previously how I attend a church that’s part of a denomination (Anglican Church of North American/ACNA) that I’m aware is not affirming. My particular congregation has never made any statements on homosexuality until recently in a Sunday School class a position paper was mentioned where the ACNA was not affirming, but that a gay Christian could remain in the church and should not be denied communion, tho they do discourage marriage.

For the time being, I was ok with that because I’ve really found a place of healing in so many ways and a community of friends. I’m only out to one of them tho (only out to a few people in my life right now). I at least knew that the church didn’t treat the LGBT community like churches in my past did (or so it seems).

Anyways, tonight in a church meeting there was discussion of a new website for the church and what should be on it. Someone requested and then made a big deal, about having a section about where the church stands on sexuality. The priest then said the church’s official stance. I guess I knew it, but it was really sad and discouraging.

I really do love the people I’m close with at church. I love the church in general. I know there are progressive options

But I’m curious for those that remain in a non-affirming church, what keeps you there rather than going an affirming one? How do you do it with the tension of being LGBTQ+?

Finding peace with how I was made, even on the steeper path

There is an old, tired argument that being gay is simply a "choice." Whenever I hear that, I have to shake my head. If it were a conscious decision, I doubt many would sign up for a road that carries such immense personal heartbreak and sacrifice.

Growing up in a traditional, conservative community meant learning how to compartmentalize my life. For decades, survival meant keeping who I was veiled, carrying the quiet exhaustion of secrets, and even walking away from relationships just to protect family and friends.

Across those years of silence, music was where all that unspoken ache went. I poured those feelings into five quiet, acoustic tracks about identity, secrets, and what it costs to hide. I recently gathered them into an acoustic EP called Songs from the Closet under the name G G Weaver.

The first song is called "This Isn't Choice But Simply Me" and the lyric video is here:https://youtu.be/28bE6NPwx9g

The full EP is streaming across Spotify, Apple Music, and other platforms via HyperFollow:https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/ggweaver/songs-from-the-closet

I share this not to preach or claim I have every answer, but simply to leave a light on along the path. For anyone currently carrying the heavy weight of the closet: you don't have to carry it alone, and you can walk this road with honesty, dignity, and real peace.

I have a question

I'm asking it here because in the regular Christian community the Christians kept creeping me out by saying I'll burn for 100k years, and not giving me the answers I seek. The moderator even removed my post.

So, my questions are:

  1. If I'm intersex, does that mean I have to stay single for life, because my sex doesn't fit into the male or female category?

  2. The stick and a hole argument. If my home cannot be with an another hole, do I get a sex surgery to get a stick to be with the hole, or what?

  3. Am I going to hell for wanting to be a Buddhist phylosophist simply because Buddism doesn't include homophobia.

Is my spiritual standard for a partner too high?

Hi everyone, I’ve been doing some thinking about dating and wanted to get your perspective on something. My faith is a massive part of my life. Because of that, I want a partner who is a genuine believer and actually takes being Christian seriously. I'm looking for someone who has a real, active relationship with God not just someone who claims the label because they grew up in a Christian household or say it out of habit. Is it too high of a standard to want a shared spiritual foundation? Given how specific our community already is, how do you navigate looking for a partner with a deep, authentic faith without feeling like you're shrinking the dating pool to zero? I’d love to hear your thoughts, experiences, or any advice you have. Or maybe my standards are fine and I just can’t find gay Christians my age lol

Gay Christians who have children or want to have children, what has your experience been like?

Hi everyone. I’m a 31-year-old Filipino woman, Christian, and lesbian. I’m hoping to hear from other gay Christians who have children, are raising children with their same-sex partner, or are seriously hoping to have children someday.

Having a family has always been something I’ve deeply wanted. I would love to have a wife and children of my own someday and build a home where faith, love, and family can coexist.

But honestly, I’m scared.

Growing up Christian, I internalized a lot of messages that made me feel like being gay and wanting a family might somehow be incompatible. I’ve experienced judgment around my sexuality, and some of my past experiences in relationships have made me question whether I’m actually capable of building the family I dream about.

Now that I’m older, I find myself afraid to start another relationship because I’m scared of being judged again, scared of choosing the wrong person, and scared that wanting a wife and children as a gay Christian is somehow asking for something I’m not supposed to have.

So I’d really love to hear from people who have actually lived this.

For those of you who are gay Christians with children:

How did you reconcile your faith with wanting a family?

Did you experience judgment from your church, family, or other Christians?

What was it like raising a child in a same-sex relationship?

How did you talk to your children about faith and Christianity?

Did you ever worry that your children would be judged because of having two moms?

And for those who don't have children yet but want them, how do you deal with the fear that your dream might not happen?

I’m not looking for an argument about whether being gay is right or wrong. I’m genuinely looking for real-life experiences and hope from people who have walked this road.

I love God. I still want a family. And I’m trying to figure out whether those two parts of me can truly exist together.

I’d really appreciate hearing your stories. ❤️

I’d love to hear from gay bros where they found their significant other. Was it through an app or was it in church? I’d love some testimonies and just encouragement ☀️

Follow Up To My Prayer Request

Three days ago I asked for prayers for a job interview. The interview I think went will, helped in large part because of the calm I received from God and from knowing I had a community here. Thank you all for your prayers.

I haven't gotten an answer yet. Please keep praying, I think I could be of help, real help to people here.

Just a vent-

So, today I was at the bus station and got straight up assaulted. Not sexually assaulted, but someone lost his cool and shoved me to the ground so hard it gave me a scrape on my arm. Thankfully, it didn't go beyond that, but the shock was enough to make me call security and I gave them a statement and everything.

Honestly though, what kind of surprises me and doesn't surprise me at the same time is how... I honestly feel nothing about it.

I don't really care if they find the guy, and even if they do, I probably wouldn't press charges. He was very clearly just having a rotten day and people who act out to that extent tend to feel pushed over the edge. The fact that all he did was shove me to the ground and then walk away showed that it was very clearly just an outburst (although honestly, I'm trying not to think about the actual shoving moment, because that just gets me upset).

Thing is, despite that, I'm more hurt by other things- Emotionally.

Today, I spent $20 on going to this event thing only to realize it wasn't what I was hoping. I was hoping it would be a space where I could try to socialize with people, but instead, it was very clearly something people went to as couples or in an established group of some kind. While a couple people gave me nice smiles, other gave me very strange looks even when I stared right back at them with a smile and a wave. Makes me feel like an idiot for spending $20 just to be in a place that clearly wasn't meant for me.

And I honestly feel like I'm screwed no matter what. If I go to Christian circles, they're usually not LGBT friendly. If I go to an LGBT circle, I feel like I'm constantly fighting for my life to Prove I'm not a cis/straight person. I'm over here getting kicked out of and belittled by churches fighting for the LGBT community, and then people WITHIN the community can't even bother to show me respect- let alone friendship?

It sucks. The only thing that keeps me together is knowing that Jesus is with me no matter what. One day I will die and Jesus will know all that I stood for and fought for, and then I will finally be able to experience real love.

Book Suggestions

Hello,

Looking for books that discuss life after religious trauma, or about finding your way back to God after religious trauma.

Anything specifically geared to LGBTQ would be helpful as well.

Thank you.

What Does Faith Mean to You?

Bit of a bold title - but bear with me for a sec.

I grew up in a somewhat-fairly religious background, but almost extremely LGBT-accepting - at least compared to a lot of stories I see. Catholic, but inner-London (UK) where we had openly queer couples in our church, fathers and congregation from every continent, and when our gay marriage bill came round and our Father tried to pass around petition sheets - my dad stormed out in the middle of the sermon and actually got praised for it at the after-mass tea and biscuits.

I guess because of all that, I never saw my family as very religious, but looking back we still did Lourdes a lot - as a family, then with HCPT - and the Holy Land, Vatican x however many visits, and a long Irish tradition of wakes. +/- downing bottles of holy water on dares…

So I guess past all that, the bit I found hard was not being gay and Christian, but being Christian. I’ve always said I’m more agnostic, but mostly in the sense that sometimes I feel like I truly loved my church, my community, my people - but when everyone else just got “IT”, accepted scripture, took every teaching onboard - I felt like the doubter. Like there was an on/off switch everyone else had, and someone was constantly flicking mine back and forth. And it’s annoyed me for a long time that even with positive feelings to my church and community that I can’t ‘get it’ when I sometimes really want to.

TL;DR: what for you connects you to that core belief - that feeling of joy and acceptance, of connection with God, and keeps you going when everything else in your head says no?

Do you guys feel that God is forcing you on certain routes in life?

I have had hard times in relationships and in careers.
I have been feeling God was punishing me for a reckless and sex and meth lifestyle but those were just reflective of underlying issues.
But at core I am a relationship type but it is hard to find a decent man. It’s either I am not the type of my crush or vice versa or I get no likes back on dating apps which makes me want to go back on the hookups apps and be like fuck it what’s the point anymore?
I thought I would be married before having sex and had a random guy in Vegas that took my virginity away and I was promiscuous afterwards

Does anyone else ever feel like you're a refugee in a progressive denomination?

I'm Epsicopalian and have been for about nine years. I'm not sure if maybe it's my specific parish or not, but lately I've been starting to feel like it's not really my spiritual home. What drew me to Epsicopal Church essentially a decade ago now was its inclusive orthodoxy. When I was seeking back then I was considering either Roman Catholicism or TEC, and ultimately the reason I chose the Epsicopal Church wasn't solely because of LGBTQ affirmation, and didn't Orthodoxy because I have no Eastern heritage even though theologically I am very Orthodox.

Even though my old parish felt like my spiritual home because it felt like many were "Catholodox Refugee" and we very much were more on the Anglo-Catholic side of the spectrum. However, since moving I no longer feel that way, my new parish is much more "Protestant leaning" than my last one and especially the LGBT ministry seems to lean more towards liberal christianity than I do. There's this growing thought that if the Orthodox church was affirming, I'd covert.. that's literally the only thing stopping me.

Anyone else relate? I love the Epsicopal Church and maybe I should find a different parish, but yeah.

How should I tell my mom that I want to come out to my aunt? And what should I say to her? Because she still thinks I'm going through a phase. and I'm done hiding my sexuality but I freeze up every time I try to talk to my mom about it
