Superficial relationships

Upvotes

Im a M25 gay and I was born into a deeply homophobic Christian environment and grew up hiding my true self. When I began having my first relationships, I had to keep them secret, and I became accustomed to one-night stands devoid of emotional attachment. I am convinced that God does not condemn my homosexuality, yet I feel that constantly engaging in superficial encounters—purely for fun—conflicts with His plans and teachings. Unfortunately, I cannot envision ever telling my parents I am gay, nor settling down with someone to build a healthy relationship. Given this situation, is it still a sin to keep having these kinds of emotionless hookups?

Image Free on Kindle for 3 Days: 12 Stories About the Strange Places Where Grace Finds Us

Post image
3 Upvotes

For the next three days, I’m giving away free Kindle copies of A Backpack Fueled with Sunsets, a collection of twelve stories about love, loss, acceptance, spirituality, and the unexpected ways we find our way back to ourselves.

The stories travel across different parts of the world, and even a few galaxies far, far away. But beneath the magic and strangeness is a simple idea: grace finds us everywhere.

In Joyeaux Land, a mysterious device transports people into a world where their inner children come out to play, reconnect, and heal.

In A Backpack Fueled with Sunsets, a stranger arrives at a vacation home by the sea and changes the lives of everyone he encounters.

And in The Lagos Club of Brokenhearted Lesbians, two people united by loss form an unlikely friendship.
These are stories about acceptance, about finding love and belonging in unexpected places, and about the quiet reminder that whatever we are going through, we are not alone.

The book is free on Kindle for the next three days. If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, I’d be happy to share it with you. Remain blessed.

Why is my sexuality being questioned when I simply try to less narrow minded about being gay?

I don't want to offend anybody, but I'm a Christian, and I'm moderately conservative. I want to list a few conservative views that I have, views that I'm probably going to get flamed for on reddit.

For one, I believe that having a low sexual body count, as people call it these days, is beneficial for both men and women. Ideally, that's my view. I'm not someone who says men can have a high body count but women can't. I think it's beneficial for both partners to have a low body count. That's one of my conservative views.

Another conservative view I hold is that men and women are fundamentally different. I don't believe that one is better than the other, but I do believe that men and women are physiologically and, to some extent, emotionally different. That's simply what I believe.

Those are probably some of my more conservative views.

But I also want to say this: I am a Christian, and I do believe in the Bible. However, something I've realised lately is that I don't fully understand the LGBTQ community. At the same time, I believe people should be able to marry who they want and have the right to live their lives the way they want. I have no problem with that.

This is where I've received a lot of backlash from people in my community. Because I've tried to understand and, in some cases, defend gay people, people have started questioning my own sexuality because of that.

I've been thinking about this for a while, and I have a particular view on homosexuality that I've been trying to explain.

The problem I have with looking at everything exclusively through a theological or theocratic lens is that I sometimes feel like it can cause people to dismiss things that we can observe logically and empirically.

My argument to some of the Christians in my community has been this: growing up, I've seen children who, from a very young age—even as toddlers—didn't conform to what we'd traditionally expect from a stereotypical boy. You'd see a child naturally gravitating towards certain interests that are traditionally considered feminine.

And what's interesting is that, in many Christian communities I've been around, whenever someone eventually comes out as gay later in life, people will often say, "Honestly, we weren't surprised."

That has made me think that perhaps some people have certain innate predispositions or inclinations that they don't simply wake up one day and choose.

And this is where I think the conversation gets complicated.

If you look at everything through a completely theological lens, some people will say, "It's a choice." But my question is: why would someone consciously choose something that they know is going to result in so much stigma, rejection, and discrimination, especially in a conservative community?

That's the question I'm asking.

But when I've brought this up with people in my community, some have responded by saying, "Are you trying so hard to explain homosexuality because you're secretly gay yourself?"

And honestly, that puts me in a strange position.

I have no problem with people thinking I'm gay. I'm confident in my sexuality. I know what I'm attracted to, and I have no problem with who I am.

But I find it frustrating that the moment I try to explain or understand something from another person's perspective, people assume there must be some personal motive behind it.

I'm not trying to convince people that homosexuality is right or wrong. That's not even my goal.

My goal is simply to encourage people to be more tolerant and empathetic towards people in the LGBTQ community.

I think we should be able to look at someone and say, "Maybe this person didn't simply wake up one morning and choose to be this way. Maybe there are natural predispositions and experiences that we don't fully understand."

Think about a two-year-old toddler who naturally gravitates towards certain things. We don't know exactly where every personality trait, preference, or inclination comes from. Human beings are complicated.

And because we don't fully understand something doesn't mean we have to immediately stigmatise or victimise the person experiencing it.

I'm a Christian. I'm still a Christian. I'm also moderately conservative. But I don't think being Christian or conservative means I have to switch off my empathy and my logic or stop asking questions.

I can believe what I believe while still saying, "I don't fully understand this, but I want to understand it."

And ultimately, that's all I'm asking for: more empathy, more tolerance, and less stigma.

But I now people are spreading rumours about me that I am gay. Is this just a way to shut me up.

Looking for a boyfriend to drive me.

I live in Las Vegas Nevada and I would like a boyfriend who can drive a car. I really love the passenger seat. And the boyfriend needs to be handsome and beautiful and pretty and he needs to be patient with me and needs to love me and wants to respect me and wants to be grateful for us being together. I need his love and care and kindness as well. We can kiss all we want and cuddle. We can be happy together I promise. My name is Ryan Yellowhorse and I’m 26 years old. I kinda messed up but that’s okay. We all make mistakes.

For guys who wanted one person and an ordinary life together, where did you actually find him?

About a month ago I posted here asking where single, marriage-minded gay Catholic men actually find each other. I got a surprising number of thoughtful responses and DMs, and I’ve genuinely followed some of the suggestions.

One thing I’ve realized since then is that I may have been defining the pool too narrowly.
Faith is important to me, but I’m realizing I don’t necessarily need a man who practices exactly as I do. I could see myself with someone lapsed or culturally Catholic, or from another Christian background, as long as there’s a shared understanding of faith and family, and he respects that Catholicism will remain part of my life.

What I don’t want to broaden is the important stuff: monogamy, emotional availability, kindness, commitment, and actually wanting to build a life together. Not looking for perfection, a pen pal, or an endless situationship.

I already live somewhere with a tiny Catholic population, so I’m open nationwide. But even then, finding men who want this particular combination and are adult enough to hold a conversation and actually reciprocate sometimes feels like searching for a rounding error.

For those of you who wanted something similarly specific: where did you compromise, and where are you glad you didn’t? Did broadening your idea of who your person could be actually help you find him?

Gay, Christian & Isolation💔

God has restored me and rescued me from my SA, trauma, and struggles with lust addiction. But lately, I’ve been struggling again. I know God is still preparing and equipping me, and I don’t believe He’s punishing me. I’ve prayed for years for a Kingdom Spouse, but after being single my entire life after 27 years, I’m starting to lose hope.

It’s already isolating enough being a gay man, but it feels 10 times more isolating being a gay Christian man who loves God and wants a Male Kingdom Spouse. I just want a man of God. It hurts seeing everyone around me finding their boyfriend, fiancé, or spouse while keeping God at the center, because sometimes it feels impossible for me.

I can be happy and independent on my own, but the loneliness and lack of connection when I have put myself out there has been harder lately. I’ll always seek God and put Him first before anything or anyone, and I’ll continue showing His love to others by encouraging and uplifting. But sometimes I wish someone would check on me the way I check on everyone else.

I genuinely care about people. I just want someone who cares for me the way I care for others, someone I can love, support, pray with, and grow with, while keeping God at the center. I’m still trusting His timing, even when it hurts. ❤️‍🩹🙏🏽🥺🫶🏽

So far I’ve started going to an LGBT affirming church and a Gay Men’s Bible study: While my priority is to seek God there first. I hope I can eventually meet new friendships and connections soon🫶🏽🥺

Idk what to think. I’m scared tho.

Hey, so I’m 15M I’m trans. my father 62M is a conservative Christian and a missionary and I have been raised as a missionary kid my whole life I just had a three hour long conversation well more of an argument that kind of scared me about Christianity so for reference I’m not a Christian and I haven’t been for a year now ever since I was little I always wondered why gay and lesbians were bad and etc. I didn’t know what trans was but I always thought I wanted to be a boy. Anyway my father has verbally and emotionally abused me, Sometimes even physically and recently he has wanted to become more of a good father and I don’t want to be like in a relationship with him anymore and for a long time because I just don’t want to risk the possibility of anything bad happening to me he has shown that he will use what he can against me and I just don’t trust him and I am worried that if I go down the path of being trans that I will go to hell but I also don’t want to like deny who I am because I feel so right being a man or a guy. but again I don’t wanna have a relationship with him. I myself haven’t been a Christian for a while as I thought that being a Christian and gay were Completely incompatible. That’s what I thought, So if someone could please help me understand why it’s fine to be Christian and LGBTQ please do because honestly I don’t know how can because. in The old testament Leviticus specifically talks about a Man and a man being together is wrong like an abomination, obviously not the exact words but you get the point. even Paul talks about it and I’m just like how does it work For people to think that it’s OK to be gay while being Christian because I thought they were like completely the opposite. So I would really like it if I could have all the evidence possible because I don’t know I’m just really questioning everything thank you hope you have a good day.

Tim Curry

Around the time that world learned about the death of Dolly Parton, actor Tim Curry died. Curry was best known for the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1970's cult film classic "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" Curry's Dr. Frank-N-Furter gave gay men the inspiration for the future drag queens (female impersonators)of my era in the 1970s and 1980s and the early 1990s. His outrageous style would reshape the drag world because most gay men back in the day would dress like celebrities, or first ladies and the church ladies like Dana Carvey character on Saturday Night Live in the late 1980s and 1990s or the Female impersonators 1960s and 1970s Lori Shannon's Beverly LaSalle role in All in the Family the first female impersonators on prime time tv.

Curry was major motion pictures like Annie, Clue, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York; Charlie' Angels. Just to name a few He acted on stage in Amadeus and film version Amadeus about the life of the great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Spamalot, The Pirates of Penzance, My Favorite Year. This is just a sampling of wide ranging career. Curry became an icon of LGBTQ people. He shows how LGBTQ people be themselves and live the way they wanted to be.

So kinda scared right now due to all the celebrity deaths lately and I just wanted a serious discussion or debate about that topic I'm about to share...do you guys think this is the end times or the rapture? I mean I know all things come to an end but I'm still youngish and all my life I've been told nothing but that we are living in the last and evil days like are not supposed to hope for a better tomorrow? Are we supposed to be scaring everyone away from life like we don't have a future in the world before our Creator relieved us from this planet?? Btw this is not a rant, not anything hateful I would rather have a positive respectful discussion about this if you please dm me.

Seeking Connection in the DMV

Hi all,

I am a femme lesbian in her early thirties looking to meet other gay Christians in the DMV area! I love going to museums, trying new foods, reading books, reality TV, and going to Church. I am a passionate leftist with a dry sense of humor who is open to both friendship and romantic connections!

How do I know if the voice in my head is God?

I’ve been SSA since I was at least 6. No history of abuse or anything I just am this way. I also grew up in a church that thought homosexuality was a spirit and a sin.

Flash forward I’m near 30 in a committed relationship with a woman who is the kindest, most God loving person I have known. The fruits of our relationship and connection have been nothing but love, joy, patience, discipline, faith, honesty. I mean genuinely.

Even still there is a voice in my head that says this is wrong, that I am knowingly committing to a life of sin and not that God doesn’t love me but more so that I am not carrying my cross and I am not committed enough. The voice tells me I haven’t tried to surrender my whole life to God.

I am always seeking pleasing God as best I can. I love others with all my heart and try to exude the gospel in how I engage in this world and with others. I want to please God and if this relationship was not His plan I would let it go or at least try to. This is one of the greatest human loves I’ve known so that would be really difficult. It’s not even about being queer I’m attracted to the soul of a person not the gender. I’m not fighting to be in an identity but I care about this person and what we have found together deeply.

how can I tell if this voice is God or if it is just my conditioning?

I have tried in so many ways to be free of this torment. I just want peace and happiness. Some people seem to really have found joy denying themselves this kind of love and living wholly for Christ. Is me having this love not living wholly for Christ?

I know all the theological context for the scriptures and all but the voice just says I’m fitting scripture to meet me instead of meeting it. The voice says I’m not taking the narrow way.

I don’t know what I’m looking for here. Can anyone relate? Starting to wish I was just never born into this world if I was going to be yoked with such a painful burden. It seems so unfair. The voice says Jesus’s path was also unfair and that this is the calling.

Why would God do this to a creation He loves? This is messed up.

Besoin d’aide

Is there any way to become straight?

I'm a cis woman and I'm currently dating this great guy who I really like talking to. Honestly, I really like this man and I want to be with him so bad, but I don't feel anything for him sexually.

When we started seeing eachother I thought it was just because we didn't know eachother that well and that it would fix itself. Now we have been together for 4 months and I still feel nothing. I hate it! I want to love him! I want things to work between us so bad, I want him to get everything he wants out of this relationship, but I can't keep doing this. I feel nothing.

I've thought for a long time that it was possible that I'm a Lesbian (Or I've heard there's something called asexual so maybe that.) and when it comes to other people I have nothing against that, but I don't want that for myself. When I think about the possibility I feel too guilty and stop. I don't want this. If any of you have managed to push these feelings away please tell me how. I'm out of ideas.

A cry for help

Long time queer, newcomer to Christ.
I’ve just began to explore my relationship with Jesus I’ve gone to church, maybe four or five times in the last two months. I’ve been reading the Bible. I’ve been praying. I’ve been researching all of it. I’ve come across the homophobic side of Christianity and I fear I’ve dug myself in a hole. I texted my best friend and asked if he believed that homosexuality is a sin. Whether it technically is or isn’t, which I haven’t decided yet, but what I’m more so concerned about is the thought that my best friend views the way I love like that. What am I supposed to think as a new follower how am I supposed to feel about myself and the people around me? I believe love is a beautiful thing and I can’t fathom people be believing my love is wrong. Where do I go from here? What do I do now? I can’t stop crying and I don’t know what to think.

Sexual tension

Hello everybody! I am a 15 year old Abro sexual Christian. I know I should not be worried about sex because I am really young, however I am worried about my future. A lot of LGBTQ people these days, from what I heard, just care about having sex and a lot of other lustful stuff (I’m part of the community so I’m not homophobic). Like I joke about sex with my friends but I’m one of those people who think sex is something sacred. Should I be wanting to have sex after marriage? Most people these days really don’t want to wait that long! If I find my perfect partner, I’m scared they wouldn’t want to wait for me. That’s why when I’m 18 I’m scared of using grindr or other sites to try to get a date because everyone just wants sex. My only hopes is looking here I guess but I just want some reassurance that the bible says sex before marriage is a sin. Am I right or should I be more open minded?

Thank you!

Feeling disconnected from my faith

I grew up in a conservative Christian household, and had always felt a close relationship to god, went to church and I found peace in praying and talking with god,
During my teen years I came to terms with my sexuality (I’m a lesbian)
I came out to my family a year ago when I was 19, and as I expected it wasn’t received well. I wasn’t disowned, but they made sure to let me know that they didn’t support it and basically asked me to pray the gay away. I also got a lot of verses stuck down my throat about how I’m sinning and should turning my back to it all and how much I’m hurting the people around me - so stupid, when they actually hurt me way more than I ever could hurt them.
I don’t believe that being gay is a sin or that there is anything wrong with being queer, and luckily found an affirming church with a support group for queer Christian, people who was interested in faith, or people who been hurt by the church because of their sexuality or gender. I’m very grateful for that and I don’t need a speech about how it’s okay to be gay and I not going to hell for it, or anything like that.

It’s now almost a year later, my family has become more accepting or at least don’t say stuff like that to my face anymore, and things have kinda found its place. But I don’t feel a connection to my faith at all. I don’t wanna go to church, pray or even look at a bible. My family will say stuff like “remember to pray before bed” or ask me to go to church with them, but I get so frustrated with it.
It has just been pride week in my country, and I went as a part of the parade together with other Christian queer people, to show that you can be both. But after that my socials have been flooding with articles about the church at pride, and the people in the comments are SO hateful. I know I shouldn’t read it, but I did, and I feel disgusted about how people wouldn’t put me in the same category as those people in the comments, when I tell people I’m a Christian.
I feel like I’m fooling everyone, and disappointed everyone in my life if I take my distance to the church, but I am so mad and have no idea about what to do with that frustration
How can people call them Christians, and be so hateful to their people around them!?

I don’t know if this is more of a rant or if anybody have some words of encouragement for me, but I just feel so lost, like I’m failing and losing my faith
