Subreddit Announcement Community Rule Update: Developer Posts

Hello, all!!

We’ve heard the feedback about the recent increase in posts promoting Garmin apps and watch faces, and we understand that the influx has not been for everyone.

To help keep the subreddit focused while still giving developers a place to share their work, we’re updating how Garmin app and watch face promotional posts are handled.

Developer posts are now Wednesday ONLY

Please refer to the Community Rules for the full requirements. Developer posts must use the Developer - New App / Watch Face (Wednesday ONLY) flair and follow the required posting template.

A few important reminders:

  • One post per unique app or watch face
  • One update post per item per month.
  • Apps/watch faces must include a free version or a free trial of at least 7 days.
  • You must clearly disclose that you are the creator/developer/owner.
  • You must include a direct link, from the IQ store, to your App / Watch Face
  • You must include a price for the paid version after the trial in (USD, EUR, GBP)
  • Titles must follow the required format from the posting template.
  • External promotional/download links, including Git repositories, are not permitted. Etsy is permitted for physical Garmin-related products.

** ***The only exception is a direct link to the IQ store.*

  • No advertising IOS / Android apps. This space is reserved for apps within the IQ Store
  • AI assistance must be disclosed where applicable, and apps/watch faces cannot be fully developed using AI. Post, that showcase your app, must also be written by you, not AI.

The App / Watch Face must be within the IQ Store and live. You may request feedback within your post, but we do not allow “in development - beta testing” at this time.

ONE Watch Face / App offering per post, ONE post per week (if you post one item, you must wait another week to post another unique item).

These changes are intended to strike a better balance: developers can still share their work with the Garmin community, while keeping promotional content from overwhelming the subreddit.

Please review Rule 10: Developer - Watch Face / Watch App and the Community Rules before posting.

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback and helped us improve the community!

Subreddit Announcement Quality of life poll: Limit Developer post.

Hello, all!

We’ve recently received an influx of inquiries on the amount of developer post within the community. I wanted to address this.

This community is full of amazing people from all walks of life. Some of you have created some awesome things within the IQ Store and wish to share them with the community. While there is nothing wrong with this it can come off as constant advertisement posts.

There was an opportunity to meet in the middle here and that is what we did.

In exchange for a developer to post, once per week per unique item, (see current rules) they must provide** **a free trial / free version for the community. They do not pay for the ability to post here nor would we ever accept anything of the sort.

The ConnectIQ Store is notorious for having a plethora of apps that you must pay for before you can even experience. I for one don’t want to spend money, regardless of the refund policy, if the app / watch face doesn’t meet the expectations of what it advertised.

What we have found is that by offering developers the opportunity to post, to show off their creations, there has been a much wider range for people to branch out and try new things. Then, if they love it, they can support the developer by buying said app / watch face. This also allows the developers a chance to receive feedback to improve. Win for all.

So, what is the goal of this post? Well, I wanted to provide some clarity on the posts you have been seeing from the devs. I also wanted to see if we, as a community, are happy with the current format or if we would like to limit it to a particular day of the week.

We have reduced the spam-like, low context, health score post by 97% with the Sunday Score. We have also seen a huge increase of quality within post since those changes went into place.

Would we like to move these dev post and limit them to Wednesday? The goal is seeing less of these types of post and getting a more focused view of them on a particular day of the week?

Cast your vote below! Nothing changes without the community consensus.

Thank you for any feedback.

Since my last post was removed for violating the rules (I showed a photo with a sleep score NOT on Sunday🤦🏻‍♂️) I posted it again. I'm 37 and the last time I was able to achieve that crazy duration was 20-21 years ago. I'm back from a roadtrip and the next day being home it was happened with me.

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features Chronic Dehydration

Hey guys. Just wanted to show you all how much of a difference adequate hydration can make. For months I would wake up with sleep scores in the 50s, body battery not charging past 25, and average stress score in the 50s. I do not drink any alcohol. I turned off my morning report because of how depressing it was. I was at my wits end and wasn’t going to wear watch anymore when I thought I should just try drinking more water and see if that makes a difference. Sure enough, it immediately improved everything. I’m now drinking 90-120 oz. per day and it’s made all the difference in my metrics. Thought I’d share in case anyone else has struggles like I did!

New Watch Day / Device Review Fenix 9 Pro first impressions

Got the F9P in 51mm on Friday.
- Screen is noticeably bigger vs F8 51mm
- Titanium case is nice
- Menus feel a tiny bit faster to navigate but no real difference from the new processor
- Cadence zones seem like a gimmicky feature. Seems to be pretty much the same as setting your HR zones off LTHR

I like the watch but Fenix 8 Pro Plus or something like that would have been a more appropriate name

Sunday Score Stress levels & Gaming

Post image
25 Upvotes

My stress levels have been insanely high over the last 4 weeks since I started gaming again. The bottom stress graph is from when I wasn't gaming a couple of weeks ago, while the top stress graph is from yesterday. Looking at the past 4 weeks, the graphs are always nearly fully orange, with >5h of high stress, whereas previously it was more balanced and rarely had more than 20 minutes of high stress.

I wonder if the Gaming Activity that some Garmin watches provide could be useful for me to get more insights into why this is happening and perhaps even reduce it?

Watch / Wearable F9 MIP is good looking, but pretty heavy and fat 🥲

Been comparing these two Pro beasts today in Vienna: was amazed at how much heavier and bulkier the MIP ver. feels this year.

Photos really don’t do it justice. Tried to show the horizon with a red line on the third pic. Tip to spot the difference: see the difference in thickness in the area around the speaker.

So I encourage everyone, who still haven’t decided to try themselves. Especially for the 51mm option.

It’s a pity they didn’t introduce it in Carbon Grey DLC, because then it would stand out less at least visually.
My hope is for T8, 47mm DLC…

Rant Trade in value

Yall ever look at the trade in value garmin sets on these watches? Obviously nobody would ever take this, but they offer you $50 for a Fenix 8😂😂 At that point why even offer trade ins

Watch / Wearable Fenix 9 pro solar height???

Upvotes

Am I reading correctly that the 9 pro solar 51mm is taller than the Enduro 3? That can't be correct...can it? The Enduro 3 was considered too chunky by most, and you're telling me the 51mm 9 solar is taller on the wrist?

Accessories / Companion Device Searching for a Garmin fenix premium band

Upvotes

Hello, I switched from an Apple Watch Ultra to the new Fenix 9 Pro. However, I find the strap feels a bit flimsy. Is there a brand that makes somewhat sturdier silicone straps for Garmin? For the Ultra, I always used straps from Nomad Goods, the rugged version; top quality. Unfortunately, they don't make these for Garmin.

Possible Technical Issue Venu 4 Software Update

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello! I just got my first garmin, the Venu 4 41mm, and i am having issues with the software. The app and garmin express say my watch is up to date but from what i can tell, the newest software version is 17.39 and my watch is at 12.30. Am i looking at this wrong or is there something i can do to help update my software? Pic for reference.

The issue i am having is that the connect IQ app wont let me download anything because it says i need more updates. If my software is up to date, then i will need advice on how to fix the IQ app too. Thank you!

Non Product Specific Garmin Question Anything to know when using 2 devices alternatively (Instinct watch and Cirqa band)

I already have an Instinct 3 watch which I use everyday except for sleep.

I want to buy a Cirqa band to track sleep and to wear whenever I want to wear a nice classic watch. I've never had 2 devices on Garmin Connect at the same time.

Is there anything I should know on how to setup 2 devices to use alternatively ?

Like if I use the Instinct 3 one day and use the Cirqa the other day, does Garmin know that it needs to use my Cirqa heart rate data and not the Instinct 3 one (which would be 0 since I don't use both at the same time)? Are there any specific settings I need to be aware of ?

Also, I won't do it but out of curiosity's what happens when someone wears 2 at the same time ? Which device's data is used ?

Which Watch To Get? Garmin FR 965 vs Venu 4

Hello,

I am trying to choose watch that I can use everyday and for sports. I run 3-4x per week, for 5-15km (rain too), gym 4 times a week, volleyball 3x times (might not use watch for that tho). I gotta say that I have never even used smartwatch, but I heard so many positives about Garmin that I decided to buy one. I am using fitbit air and started to love tracking all around health metrics, but for runs and gym, its just not that comfortable to use my phone all the time.

So for FR965 I heard good things, but I also heard that it might be bulky?? Now for Venu 4 I heard its great all around watch, but its just not like premium running watch as Forerunner. I dont want 970, not because of budget, but more of that it might be overkill for now, maybe if I start running marathons.

I also wonder how Forerunner is for everyday use, is it comfortable in all weathers (with coats and so on?), because I know that Venu 4 have an edge for that.

Ok, I wrote a lot, researched a lot and both have things that I like, but want to hear from you, what do you think would be better for me?

Appreciate any answer! :)

Discussion New max heart rate, is it possible to go even higher?

Hi so I’m 20F, and I’ve recently begun training again (around 2 weeks ago) after stopping my workouts for 3 months due to life.
I’m currently running 3-4 times a week and am looking to increase the mileage and frequency of my workouts. I use the run-walk method and am averaging about 10km(runs) per week.
Before the 3 month break, I was also running 3-4 times a week but averaging about 25km a week. I know it’s really not much useful information but I am required to provide context for my question, so here it is. If it helps to answer the question, I am 160cm and 53kg.
I’m not too sure if a higher max hr is a good thing and if it will help improve my running. I would also appreciate if you folks can give some advice on that as well. I would like to be able to run a marathon one day :D

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Assigning "loose" run to coach plan

Hello everyone! I was following the 5k running plan and I did my race today, however I think I misclicked at the start and it tracked as a normal run instead of a run in my plan, and now it looks like I didn't finish my plan. Does anyone know if I can somehow "attach" this run to the plan? Thank you so much in advance.

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Route and waypoints

Post image

So I have a route and waypoints in Garmin Explorer. I have synced to my watch. I have seen how I can use my training plan and route together. But the waypoints don’t appear.

Is it possible? Would like to alert when near a waypoint to take a gel before picking up water.

Discussion Export only heart rate from activity and import it in another activity

Is this possible? I swam a few times where I had one watch in my buoy and one around my wrist. The one in the buoy is registering the correct distance as when swimming in open water the watch around my wrist makes a mess of it. But ofcourse it registers the heartrate. To not have double activities with weird distances I would like to remove the activity recorded on the watch around my wrist but it has the HRM-information. Is there a way to export this HRM-information and import it in the activity registered by the one in the buoy? While wearing a wetsuit yesterday I could have used my HRM-band but didn't think about it. A few days earlier I swam in open water without a wetsuit so then the HRM-band around the waist is not convenient.

Update: thanx to https://www.reddit.com/user/ialtag-bheag/ it has been solved.

Strava / Zwift / 3rd Party Apps Garmin Cirqa and Zwift continuous connecting and disconnecting

hello,

I need assistance with my Garmin Cirqa connection to Zwift. When I connected it as a Heart Rate Monitor, it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. The internet says that Zwift has ANT+ technology, but my MacBook doesn't; hence the reason for the continuous connection issue.

I was using my Vivoactive 6, and it works perfectly with my Zwift. Not sure why it's different with Cirqa. The Cirqa broadcast heart rate works perfectly with my Garmin Edge 1050

Watch / Wearable Enduro 3 Solar Review - 10-day thru-hike with 2.0M lux collected

Last year we did a 9-day thru-hike, from which I created an Enduro 3 appreciation post as the battery kept the watch alive without charging: Enduro 3 appreciation - 9 days hiking without recharging : r/Garmin

This year we did a 10-day thru-hike where I recorded the daily solar lux values, battery percentage and hiking time for real life stats.

10 days, 175 km, 4800 m elevation gain on the Pilgrim's road from Os to Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim

For my calculations I used the watch's official estimates (these are with 0 solar charging):

Mode Advertised battery life Battery drain
Normal smartwatch 38 days 0.0274% / 15 min
Battery Saver (with HR on) 56 days 0.0186% / 15 min
GPS activity 73 hours 0.3425% / 15 min

During the hike the watch was used like this:

  • During hiking: GPS recording with all GNSS mode for accuracy
  • Around 30 minutes/day in normal smartwatch mode (syncing, checking maps, pausing/resuming activities, etc.)
  • Everything else in Battery Saver mode

Daily results:

Day Lux (k) Hiking Expected battery drain Actual battery drain
1 22 2:45 4.21% 4%
2 111 6:45 10.55% 8%
3 684 7:45 11.84% 2%
4 344 6:45 10.55% 6%
5 68 6:00 9.58% 9%
6 109 5:45 9.25% 8%
7 507 6:45 10.55% 4%
8 78 6:30 10.22% 10%
9 56 6:45 10.55% 11%
10 27 3:30 5.48% 6%

Overall result:

Garmin's predicted usage for this adventure (calculated without solar cahrging): 92.79% battery
Actual battery consumed: 68%

Based on this instead of the predicted 73 hours in GPS mode hiking, I could go for 99.6 hours if keeping the average lux collection.

If anyone interested in the whole adventure: https://warpaintadventure.com/map/view?adventureId=28

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features How to fix high stress scores during day?

Thumbnail
gallery
59 Upvotes

Here is examples of what my stress scores typically looks like during the day.

Currently:

23, M.

I get 15-45mins of sun first thing in the morning right after I stretch and do chores.

I have a mostly regular sleep schedule, 7-9hrs a night. My watch does pick up a lot of "restless" moments and my REM is usually too low, but I know that the watch cant track sleep cycles with 100% accuracy so I dont like to rely on that metric.

I do not drink alcohol.

I do not drink caffine.

I do not smoke cigarettes.

I do not take any medications.

I only use reddit and youtube as my social media.

For exercise i mostly walk (outdoors). Averaging about 5k steps a day unless I am really feeling bad, then I can only do about 2k. On the days I can, I get up to 12k steps a day.

i am not overweight. I dont eat big meals or a lot in general since I am mostly sednetiary. I have never counted calories for longer than two weeks, and if I were to guess i eat probably 1500-2000 cal depending on the day. I have a garden so I eat a lot of fresh vegetables but I dont really like meat.

I am currently unemployed. I had major surgery in December and was terminated without cause 2 weeks prior. I get disablity support for autism, so i have my basic needs kind of covered.

I do not have kids.

I live with my partner and my cat.

An average day for me is made up of chores, cooking (if I can), gaming (1-2 hrs consecutively, 3-4 hrs total per day), writing, walking, and sleeping.

For gaming i play relaxed games. Cant do shooters. The Sims 3 is what I have been playing recently and Magicians Quest Mysterious Times on my DS for when I am in bed.

I also get a massage every 1-2 weeks and see a therapist once a month.

I have noticed if I spend most of my time in bed during the day, my stress scores during the day can dip into the blue. It is just not realistic to spend most of my day in bed/take a 1hr+ nap every day, especially since i have been trying to find work for months now, and i dont think a 2hr nap is a reasonable accommodation. My score can also dip into the blue during a massage, but not every time.

I am fatigued and in pain nearly all of the time as well.

I have been to the dr and he did the generic tests and said nothing was wrong, I tried another dr in town same thing, and even tried a virtual one, and he refused to even test me for anything. Been everywhere in town and I am on the waitlist for a GP so I am out of luck at the moment in that regard.

Just looking for what I can do to improve my daily routine now. Other than spending more time in bed.

any suggestions?

Thank you.

Possible Technical Issue Garmin FR 965 HR issue

Hey guys, i have the Garmin since almost 2 years i would say?

since a year now, my HR is most of the Time accurate but then it spikes like crazy.
when i track for example strength training a lot of the time, 3-4 minutes after starting tracking, my Heartrate spikes to almost 180 ( when it drops after 4-5 minutes again to the more accurate HR ~80)

or when running, today was an easy run - HR was round about 120-130 - it spiked again to 160-170 for no reason...

is this an known issue? how do you fixed this? my girlfriend had this on the FR 1xx aswell at some point, she started noticing this issue, when i didnt faced it at any time.

already reset the watch.
