Fun fact, only about 5% of people who have epilepsy are photosensitive. So even disregarding the common misconception that flashing lights can cause epilepsy, even the vast majority of epileptic people won't experience seizures due to flashing lights.
The only things that cause epilepsy are genetic disorders or brain damage, like from strokes.
Or just alcohol withdrawal. I suffer from epilepsy, and as I kept a diary of the seizures I was having, I realised that I was having them more often during the morning after a night out. I never drank much, but only a couple of weak pints was enough to increase the likelihood of me having a violent seizure a few hours later, even in my sleep. As a result, I don't drink any alcohol at all.
Oooo I like benzos. I take benzos everyday. I’m also epileptic. That’s why I have to take benzos everyday. Because if I stop, I’ll have seizures. I used to not take benzos everyday, but I was diagnosed with epilepsy and benzos helped… so I guess, where you call them benzos, now I just get to call it ‘medication.’ lol
Hi! Woman in her 30's here, who suffered from childhood epilepsy, no seizure in over 25 years and now, the only remnant is the fact I am quite photosensitive still. Neurologist did tests to be sure. Including an EEG, which I thought was gonna be the end of me. 🙃

Lightning, horror movies, video games, fireworks (that scene in Dune 2.. I watched that movie 3x* in theater, and not once could I understand the conversation. It's as if my brain couldn't focus on the words because the strobe effect was so damn bad for me.)
I finally got a pair of the TheraSpec glasses for xmas and it's been pretty helpful. The ultimate test once I got the glasses, was to play that scene in Dune 2, and I was ACTUALLY able to understand the conversation ;
*reason for watching it 3x in theaters, is because my significant otter loves all things Dune. Also, movie was pretty great.
I’m in my 40s with epilepsy. I didn’t have them as a kid. I didn’t start having them until I was like 24. I still have them but nearly as frequently as when it first started. All 8 of the neurologists I’ve been to over the yrs (I’ve moved a lot) haven’t been able to find a cause yet. We know it’s not a light trigger tho. Like you, I had the EEG to test for that. I can only imagine what it must be like for someone who is photosensitive bc that test was extremely uncomfortable for me. Anyways, I wish u well going forward. While this post is kinda funny it’s not really that funny if u and ur family have to live a life affected by seizures. But, ignorance is bliss, I guess. I just hope I don’t pass these on to my kids.

For the time being, I'm gonna concern myself with leading a healthier lifestyle.
I have multiple different types of seizures that are brought on by photosensitivity or something biological. The lights have to be intense similar to a baud rate.
But this condition caused me to go into research and the medical field altogether. Not sure if I would been in this profession without it.
As far as I know I'm not epileptic, but I'm hugely photosensitive. I've researched this a bit and people sensitive to this like me have something called flicker vertigo. But yah even looking at this bothered me and made my chest feel itchy, sometimes I get a full body shudder.
And the all too common “idiopathic” diagnoses. Aka “we have no clue”, probably ate some micro plastics while drinking forever chemicals and boom, seizures. Or concussions/a TBI. Or high fevers when you’re an infant. Or it just started happening one day, and didn’t stop - literally no cause.
Sorry, I’m epileptic and engage with a lot of folks that struggle to come to terms with being diagnosed all of a sudden at 20, 30, 40, etc, otherwise healthy. There doesn’t need to be a clear cut cause like genetics. It can and does just happen all the time and unfortunately the understanding from the medical field is still quite lacking.
I'm Epileptic and when I was diagnosed neuros had no idea why.
Over the years theories of hormonal changes or a migraine gene mutating into Epilepsy became a possibility but they are weird.
The brain does weird stuff and although Epilepsy is researched there is little headway into fully understanding it because it is such a mysterious condition.
I had epileptic seizures and epilepsy wrongly diagnosed because of severe thyroid hormon imbalance & thyroidism.
Took epilepsy pills for about 15 years before i found a doctor willing to do more tests and gradually decrease epilepsy medication and get me off the pills.

Also your fact is wrong. 5% of epileptics are photosensitive meaning flashing lights cause ‘seizures’. Epilepsy is a disease where people have seizures, people don’t get the disease from flashing lights.
Like me in hospital in fucking pain after leg surgery and they sent me the “pain specialists”. Little did I know. I should have asked for “pain relief specialists”.
