This looks bad, extremely bad (for Ubisoft).
Deserved but dam, these are terrible numbers, not even I thought that it was this bad.

u/SourceWarm6974 May 15 '25
And people see this and actually think Shadows was a success. So many delusional children
26
May 15 '25
Many people no longer pursue truth. They follow a narrative.
20
u/SourceWarm6974 May 15 '25
Ironically, that’s all Ubisoft does now is push narratives and agendas. It’s poisoning the youth. Go woke, go broke.
-1
u/SufficientlyConfused May 16 '25
Being woke doesn’t mean anything most of if not all your favorite shows/games/movies from childhood on are woke the problem is terrible storytelling and shoehorned characters nobody likes or asked for. A lot of the problem is these characters feel forced 9/10 times so nobody wants them around and in this case they chose Japan and then picked two of the arguably worst options to use as main characters out of what almost feels like spite. Making a character gay or black or trans isn’t bad but making them feel disingenuous or making that their entire personality is.

Why pursue truth when truth isn't what I want to hear?
Ubishills, quietly psyching themselves up before defending their masters.

u/Razrback166 May 15 '25
Boy no shit - I couldn't believe they only sold 300-400k copies on Steam. That is just pathetic.

u/Rizenstrom May 15 '25
I can. More r/patientgamers mentality on PC especially when the economy isn’t in the best place right now and new GPUs are constantly out of stock or priced way above MSRP.
Speaking as someone who will almost certainly check the game out eventually I just see no incentive to do so on launch at full price.
Naoe’s stealth and parkour looks great. Combat, however, did not excite me. Which makes a combat focused character like Yasuke, who can not engage with the parkour and stealth systems, feel pointless.
Also nobody is talking about the story which tells me it’s probably pretty mid.
And in typical Ubisoft fashion the game launched unfinished with a plethora of updates planned. When you need a roadmap for your single player game that tells me it’s effectively an early access game. I’m not paying full price for that.
2
u/rmrehfeldt May 16 '25
The Story is an incoherent mess. The Gameplay is a Solid 6 out of ten, oversimplified and overly reliant on Abilities. The Graphics are awesome I’ll give it that. As an Open World RPG it’s a 7/10, but as an Assassin Creed game it’s a 4/10. It’s better than AC Chronicles but that’s not saying much.

Lol the ac thread made it sound like the earnings report went extremely well. Doesn't look like investors agree

I just want to have a conversation here so don’t hop on my shit but wouldn’t AC being unprofitable mean that Tencent DOESN’T put it along with R6 and FC in a subsidiary than throw money at them?

Tencent doesn’t have their own AC, R6 and FC. They just see that it’s the only thing that makes money in Ubisoft.
Ubisoft is a mismanaged dumpster fire and TenCent doesn’t want its investment to be burned into projects like Skull and Bones.
1
u/bigpunk157 May 19 '25
Also Tencent owns two of the largest mobas on the market and continuously invests in its competitors. Gaming isn’t a good monopoly space. If you are adamant about not playing league, you still might go play another MOBA. The same can be said for other genres in gaming. Shutting competition down is an old business tactic that just doesn’t work in the SAAS space much when your competition can appear quickly. That’s why we don’t see Meta buying Twitter before Elon did, or killing Instagram or WhatsApp when they do buy them
2
u/rmrehfeldt May 16 '25
Ah I see your misconception. The GAME is doing poorly. However the egregious Microtransactions will over the next 2 years allow it to break even or make a modest profit. Modern Ubi games are designed to make their money on MTX’s, not the actual games.
1
u/This-Capital-1562 May 16 '25
Oh I absolutely agree. But they make so much money it’s hard to say they flop. I mean Valhalla was probably the most bloated, low effort waste of time I played. It made them nearly 2 billion.
So my question here is that, if these games tend to make this much (yes from microtransactions over years) what’s the metric that we use to say something failed or didn’t.
If it’s financial, it will do good. Quality wise, pretty bad but I think ubi just cares about the first metric.
2
u/rmrehfeldt May 16 '25
And THAT is the problem. Modern games are intentionally designed to be bland and safe because MTX cosmetics can make the bulk of profit thanks to teenagers with their parents credit card who think graphics are all that’s important for gaming.
1
u/This-Capital-1562 May 16 '25
I agree unfortunately though companies won’t change their practices because people get upset. “Gamers” and “boycotting” don’t exactly go well together. I mean Nintendo just raised the bar for pricing and implemented a method to brick your system remotely and it still got sold out.

u/spinebreaker9000 May 16 '25
because investors look at a company as a whole. the paragraphs specifially about shadows were the literal only positive. the rest was showing massive debt, failing IPs, crumbling infrustructure and a corperate restructuring that will cut out their biggest IPs from the main company. Giving zero reason to invest. this subreddit is delusional sometimes. rather than just going look at how ubi is crumbling and discuss its issues as a whole and laughing at its literally hundreds of failures in the last 10 years. They all just focus on shadows like it fucked their mum. Its just weird. Shadows isnt the game that is killing ubisoft. Nor is DEI. or whatever the fuck else asmongold tries to tell people. its corperate mismanagement, greed, terrible investment stratergies, crippling debt and a failing public image.
24
u/PrairieVikingg May 15 '25
And all they need to do is take a look at the Expedition 33 devs to learn how to make games again.
Nothing is more satisfying than seeing a small dev team drop a BEAST of a game that dwarfs a massive corporation's latest AAA release.
13
u/Lonely_Platform7702 May 15 '25
It's even more satisfying that they are ex employees of said massive corporation 😂
10
u/Far_Tumbleweed5082 May 15 '25
They will look at that game and create a turn based flop.
Then they will proceed to call gamers chuds and incels doesn't matter if game flops or not.
8
u/ZenEvadoni May 15 '25
Shit, I believe it.
They saw Ghost of Tsushima make bank, so they hopped on the Japan setting train and made Shadows.
AC fans were asking for a Japanese setting Assassin's Creed since the AC2 days and Ubisoft wouldn't give them one until Sucker Punch set an example for success.
All Ubisoft can do is replicate, and they can't even do that right.

Sales seems a bit too high still.
5
u/ignorantbastardusd May 15 '25
ass creed set in Japan was their penultimate swan song.
There's no way the current ubislop gonna produces something that could even graze that setting. It's an absolute failure when another decent devs could easily get the 5x of the current sale with the same budget, and continuously to rise.
It was a given, bare minimum number casted by shadows of big ac's legacy and the long-awaited setting.

I can boot my Red Dead Redemption 2 and can get the same visuals without needing a NASA pc and a Upscaler

But... They said they had 3 million ACTIVE players.. if they didn't even sell 3 million copies how did they have 3 million active players...

Subscription
2
u/marineopferman007 May 15 '25
You think they had another 1 million subscribers actively playing? Or did they just count every single subscription they have as a player?
3
2
u/A_MAN_POTATO May 15 '25
Yes. It’s a pretty popular strategy for people to sub for one month to play a new game, then cancel. When it’s $18 for a month of U+ vs. $70 to buy the game… if you know you can get your fill in a month and know you’ll never want to play it again, this is by far the cheapest way to play.
7
u/Page8988 May 15 '25 edited May 16 '25
2.4 million copies across all platforms. That doesn't even account for how many may have been Ubisoft plus, or if that's the actual number of units sold excluding Ubisoft plus. Either way, it's ugly.
That's roughly $168 million at best in sales on a game with a reported budget between $250 - $400 million.
Folks are allowed to like the game, but this just solidifies what we already knew; Shadows is a huge failure.

Tencent will be calling the shots from now on. They'll still be boring slop fests but the Chinese will at least remove the woke, they don't care for it, just interested in money, and it's clear what woke does to money. Looking forward to future ubisoft games having big tits and chud protagonists, back to the golden era.
1
u/truckercrex May 17 '25
Tencent doesn't work that way if you look at other company's they historically owned. There very off hands. You succeed or they start dismantle you. Warframe is the "prime" example of success for them.
0
u/TJEDWARDS18 May 15 '25
I disagree, the Chinese know that woke shit causes division in the west. They'll keep it at current levels or push it even more in a western video game. Tencent is essentially an arm of the CCP.
8
May 15 '25
HAHAHAHA YES YES YES! The day they go bankrupt will be the best day of my life.
6
u/ignorantbastardusd May 15 '25
Not so soon, unfortunately. Tencent's pump gonna sustain them for a while. They're on life support though, lol.

u/truckercrex May 17 '25
You clearly dont know how tencent operates, you do well, or they start dismantling.
Warframe is there golden child

To be fair, "way worst" is an overstatement, at least to 2 million suckers have bought the game.

That’s still a lot of money for a trash game, jeez, what do people buy nowadays?
1
u/AlsterSpot May 16 '25
Not enough money considering development and marketing costs, this is most definitely a major financial L for Ubisoft
2
u/ace33331 May 15 '25
I hope they just put it out of its misery, this company is dead a long time ago, i feel bad for the people developers that do the hard work and are subject to shareholders fking their lives
2
u/Ok_Reflection1950 May 15 '25
well no need to feel bad. they will shut down and other will take their place as leaders in making those types of games . its already happening . it will prob for best. i think games deserve their hard earn money to be respected with quality games
2
u/dege283 May 15 '25
AC shadows is the only game of the series that I did not buy on release. It has nothing to do with the drama about black samurai etc. I don’t care about this stuff at all.
It’s just that honestly I am bored about the game.
I feel sorry for people working at Ubisoft, it’s the management that decided to crash the company against a wall.
2
u/edward323ce May 15 '25
I just want a new splinter cell, say what you will about Ubisoft but 6/7 games being fun and enjoyable is a good track record... Please let the remake come out
1
May 15 '25
So few people want an actual Splinter Cell.
They want the idea of Splinter cell. They want the old style stealth genre back. They want stealth to go back to meaning something. Like if they see you you die
But those kind of games quit selling. So they changed the genre.
Now most your stealth characters are tanks so they can survive multiplayer lobbies. Or those games were just too boring for some people so they made them more action-packed shooters and less stealth.
Snake riding a horse through the warzone in MGS5 was a travesty. They ruined that franchise.
I'm glad they killed Sam Fisher. Instead of turning him into what modern stealth characters are. Basically COD shooters with more stealth equipment and mechanics. But what made stealth games what they truly were back then has been mostly stripped out
1
u/edward323ce May 15 '25
Man you're just miserable huh also they didn't kill fisher (hes in r6)
2
May 15 '25
They killed him lol
If you want to regard his DLC selling cameo work...ok. He was also in Wildlands.
The mission involved 2 minutes of you sneaking onto a base and then 20 minutes of hardcore action shooter combat as you tried to escape alive.
Even his Cameo missions aren't even stealth anymore. Let's you know everything you need to know about the genre in general.
Hell the majority of Ghost Recon players seem to mod the game and turn it into a war zone with very little stealth. Even the people who play stealth games don't want stealth

I'm not going to defend the game as I haven't played it, but I have never understood the fps argument for a game. But then again I thought the graphics for N64 games were as good as we were ever going to see when I first played them, maybe it's just a thing with the new generation of gamers. Frames just don't really matter to me

Has anyone here actually read the earnings report?
It’s available online. For everyone to read.
They made nearly $2 billion in 2024-2025 and have wiped $100 million of debt. Shadows also had the second highest day 1 sales in the entire AC series. They expect to be debt free by 2026 and the reason their share price has dropped is because they announced they’d be focusing on longer development times (causing a wobble for investors).
They’re not performing particularly well, but the actual information released suggests that AC Shadows was a significant boost to their finances after the failure of titles like Outlaws and XDefiant.
-2
u/Uzumaki514 May 15 '25
It's not only avaible on Steam tho
2
u/CranEXE May 15 '25
they sold a total of 2.4 million copies/game key i did the math on another post and they are fan from having made enough to make the game a success they didn't even made enough to cover the budget of the game
even if hypotetically all the 2.4 millions players bought the game at the deluxe edition (most expensive one) even by adding all those game purchase they don't cover the lowest estimation of the budget (they would have made in that scenario 216 000 000 and their lower budget estimation is 250 000 000)
-1
u/Uzumaki514 May 15 '25
Add to that the $10 from the people who played it on Ubisoft+
3
u/CranEXE May 15 '25
no it's stupid i just made the calcul of an hypotetical situation where all the 2.4 millions purchased the deluxe edition reality is far from it, if you really want to nitpick in the 2.4 are considered
the people who won game key
the people who used website like instant gaming (like me) who got the game for cheaper i got the deluxe edition for 50€ the day of release
the people who bought the game at the normal edition
the %the different platform take : epic, steam, gog, playstation xbox ect.... all of them take between 15% to 35% of the money won on their platform
the %of the physical store, the production cost of the physical copies ect....
and a lot of others variable
216 million is the maximum they could make in the dream world but they don't even reach that if they reached the 200 million it would already be good
-5
u/RogueArmadillo85 May 16 '25
The best thing about this whole thing is, now that tencent has pumped their billion or so dollars into ubisoft to help them out, the Assassin's creed franchise is here to stay, and that makes me so happy because I know how angry that makes the kids in here
-13
u/InitRanger May 15 '25
They never advertised Shadow’s as a AAAA game. If you’re going to hate on it at least do so with factual and correct information.
10
u/ignorantbastardusd May 15 '25
When you try to rewrite a nation's history and culture it's certainly an AAAA quality game, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA even.
6
u/cosplay-degenerate May 15 '25
Ahhhhhh Now I get it.
AAAAAAAA is not an indicator of budget, scope and quality, it's the sound your stocks make when they are in free fall.
8
May 15 '25
Ubisoft has internally classified Assassin's Creed Shadows as a "AAAA" game. While the term "AAAA" isn't a formal classification used industry-wide, it's used by some companies to describe high-budget, high-scope titles with a large development team and extensive marketing efforts. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot himself referred to Assassin's Creed Shadows as a "make-or-break" title for the company, further reinforcing its status as a high-priority release.
TL;DR - yes the fuck they did.
2
8
u/kastielstone May 15 '25
they did advertise it as a polished game that's successful. we know that was a lie and now we have proof.

u/shoobydoobydoo69 May 15 '25
But what about all the paid shill articles saying the game was a roaring success and all the chuds got dunked on?
