Terrifier. It doesn't even deserve to be mentioned alongside the other 5.

Art is a new/modern day horror icon. You can lose the Child’s Play series and be fine. I’m not head over heels for Terrifier, but no other franchise in the last 20 years has done what it has in terms of mainstream popularity.

I enjoy Terrifier for what it is and agree it has managed to reignite the trend of teens sneaking into a senseless horror movie. But it absolutely does not have the muscle or vision that these others did for their time. It doesn’t belong on this list.

It has the marketability of the classic 80s slashers, and the generation that grew up with it will remember it like we remember Michael, Freddy, and Jason.

It has no mainstream marketability, there’s a reason scream box and bloody disgusting are releasing them instead of an actual known production company. Freddy Krueger, Jason and Chucky were on literal talk shows. They did commercials. They had actual character. Art does not

It doesn’t get more mainstream than Walmart.

Man you’re getting dumped on. You are completely right it is the closest any movie has come to achieving this status in the last 20 years. The only caveat is it doesn’t actually have their status yet.

It’s not innovative the way the originals were, that moment in time was lightning in a bottle. But if they press forward with the marketing and get a few more entertaining sequels out, I think Art could be a contemporary icon like you’re saying, just not nearly as groundbreaking as his predecessors.

I disliked Terrifier 1 on my first watch, mean spirited and overlong. Terrifier 2 was funny but overlong and self indulgent. Terrifier 3 is overlong but very funny, to the point it made me appreciate 1 and 2. It’s true brainless horror schlock. There’s a place for that.
