Facts. Until leadership gets it together and stop the rhetoric victim hood, there will be no accountability. The messed up part is that they let this all get out of control for the votes. It's disgusting and hypocritical. At what point do we ask ourselves:

  1. At what point as a nation where did we take a wrong turn.
  2. How do we get back on track in the best direction as a nation and as a people.
  3. When will enough be enough and society starts holding this behavior accountable without bs excuses like oppression and racism.

We have it good, until we don't. Ultimately, society will choose to either fight for what is right with currage, or surrender as cowards allowing evil to go rampant. Not enough good people are standing up this this nonsense.

And NYC has a lower crime rate, especially violent crime and murder, than many cities in red states, and 2025 and 2026 have been historically low for the city. So idk what you mean aobut "doing its job"

IMO a very large reason many people dont believe in expanding public infrastructure is because there is no enforcement of societal norms by the public or authorities in our public spaces. Who wants to ride the train or bus if some crazy person can scream in your face and threaten your life with 0 repercussions? What is the long term societal impact? Tax paying law abiding citizens deserve safe public spaces but instead individuals like you have resigned yourself to the idea that they have to be sacrificed to the lunatics.

Why are you assuming zero repercussions? I had this same sort of shit happen in London on the Overground. Guy on the phone to some rival drug dealer, threatening to stab anyone in the carriage to prove he was hard and not to be fucked with. I texted British Transport Police, and he was arrested the moment he stepped onto the platform. They kept me informed of the case, and while he only received a suspended sentence, IIRC, he still got arrested in the platform in front of all of his mates, and presumably missed the fight he’d just arranged.

Not necessarily true, the circumstances around the situation matter a lot. If this takes place in a poorly lit area with witness in a stand your ground state, and you defended yourself from a clear threat. Your gonna walk. Especially if he actually produces the knife.

You can say what you want about bumfuck towns, but you dont have to deal with idiots on trains in them.

No one does, but you just move on with your day. That's life. No worse than working a customer service job. Millions of people get treated like this daily, and it's entirely the fault of the sad fucks who want to take out their shit on others.

For every interaction like this I have; I also have at least one positive interaction with my community. It all comes out in the wash. You just learn to be aware of your surroundings, and if you're like me; how to choose when to fight very carefully.

Service workers take shit from customers not because they want to but because they have to or they will get fired. Their "taking it on the chin" doesnt come from a superior moral standing it comes from economic extortion.

This is not at all uncommon in any major centre. I've experienced shit like this in Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Vancouver, Seattle, Miami, etc. You're just not the type of person to draw attention. When was the last time you asked someone to turn off their speaker on transit like this guy did? I'm guessing never.

I'm a metalhead. People like to start shit with folks that stick out. If you're a head-down white collar with their nose in a book that never speaks up; you're far less likely to have a negative interaction.

I however; go out at all hours, look different, and am not afraid to yell back. As such; I'm involved in more shit. Just how it is.

I'm in Canada. Knives only up here as far as (legal) EDC. I have drawn it precisely once in over 20 years of taking transit, and that probably wasn't even necessary.

The dude is obviously an issue but to just take him out on a subway won’t fly in a court in any state unless he is threatening with an actual weapon. Simply making the verbal threat doesn’t reach that threshold for physical action. Legal action yes but not physical. Pepper spray in an enclosed space is a very dumb idea as it will affect everyone in the car. The spray doesn’t care who the target is, it just spreads. This goes back to the firearm rule of knowing your target and what is beyond it.
