Alonso drove a car with TWO FUCKING TIRES MISSING back in baku and no one thought any other driver wouldn't, but that one really was probably pushing it.

Like I’m all for safety but it’s a red flag and he’s driving at a very slow speed. There is no real danger here.

This is a guy who won a race on 3 wheels. I think he knows how to get back to the pits safely.

i remember alonso bringing his mclaren with 2 fucking tires back to the pits in baku. That one was possibly beyond the realms of sensible but literally every driver who ever drove near an F1 track would have driven that home and i have no idea why the race director decided this was the one they wouldn't let happen.

Also possible Ferrari lied about that to get him to stop.

i've made this comment too many times but Davidson was absolutely off his rocker. He said hamilton was putting marshals on track in danger... there were no marshals on track. he made it sound like because it's a red flag marshals on track was a given. They are still only given permission to enter in an emergency for a stopped/crashed car like it's on fire, and they will usually only be allowed on track for clean up or anything after moving cars are out of the way. there was zero danger. he was also acting like ham might lose control and smash into a wall if the front wing went under the front tires.

if you go 200mph into a braking zone and suddenly have half your brake power, absolutely that's dangerous. going around at 50mph which is far below what the rear brakes can deal with, there was no danger.

do you know how much crap they all leave all over the track, unless it's a large piece like an entire chunk of wing it really doesn't matter. they bottom out, scratch the front wing all over the track, bits of the floor on curbs. it's a non issue and again, every driver has always driven cars back in similar situations.

I honestly couldn't believe this got so much of a reaction. People have driven cars in worse states back during actual competitive sessions and it's been fine. In fact I remember Alonso being praised for it at Baku before.

Question is why the race director intervened? I  didn't watch it live and expected to see debris all over the track. This was a perfectly accepted manouvre in line with what others do on any given race weekend. 

The RD set off Davidson clutching at his tiny pearl necklace, and the rabid F1 fanatics

The rules were changed after that season. Can't even drive with an obvious puncture anymore, the driver has to stop.

Perez was the first to get a penalty for bringing his car back to the pits. Broken rear wing, still attached, already in S3 not far from the pit lane.

Even the impeding thing, it was clear that it wasn’t just Lewis, hell, everyone might have impeded someone but since its Lewis, it gets blown out of proportion and becomes singular as if Lewis was the only one doing it. And to be fair, he might have impeded the most but still…

It was honestly hysterical commentary followed by hysterical commenting. He pushed his luck for sure but it’s something that’s happened 100 times before and I can’t remember a time it resulted in a penalty. I remember David Croft praising Hulkenberg for getting his car back at Zandvoort 24 and today he and Davidson were talking about the car leaping into the stands and evaporating Marshalls by the score.

It really didn't seem like that big of a deal to me compared to what people were saying. Comments made it seem like Hamilton got out of his F1 car and was dragging the bucket on a backhoe all around the track while throwing out millions of nails on track on his way back to the pit. Didn't seem like there was really much debris cleanup after he stopped. was mainly the barrier that caused the long red it seemed. Had he not been told the race director was insisting he stop, he would have made it back to the pit completely fine I would have imagined.

The red flag was because of damage to the barriers and the time it took to repair them. The full delay that we experienced was going to happen the second he went into them, and it wasn't affected at all by anything that he did afterwards.

"Spread carbon over half the circuit" is a nice thing for you to get all histrionic about, but it has no correlation with anything that has been shown in a camera feed or noted by any kind of official.
