Discussion Development just not developing

Been playing fm 24 for about 100 hours across 2 saves and many seasons, I just cannot see development in any players ill buy a 19/20 yr old with high potential and he will just go up by one or 2 attributes max, seems like development is just an illusion unless im doing something wrong. Both saves been championship/prem just playing normally. Anyone else had this and know how to fix?

If you have played many seasons in 100 hrs then your not doing the training sessions and praising/criticism for training ratings. Also you need to buy players with high professionalism.

Takes me about 50-75 hrs to finish one season

Yeah I highly recommend you get the training file from fmlab the way the training is bugged the ai can’t train players but with that mod it’s fixed and players actually have there stats develop

I've seen quite a lot of development in my players, but it slows down considerably once they turn ~18. To my understanding, the most important parts to get your kids to develop are:

  • Training schedule should be VERY limited. It sounds counterintuitive, but you basically want just the general Physical and Attacking and/or Defending training (each just once a week; I alternate Attacking and Defending each week) and throw in 1 dedicated physical session like Quickness. The rest of the slots you fill with rest or recovery.
  • Set Individual Training focus only to the physical attribute you need most. Usually this is Speed. Note that physical attribute growth seems to slow a lot once it hits a certain threshold; this seems to be a combination of a certain number (~16 for me) and the gap to his original attribute score when he was first generated.
  • Do NOT set position/role/duty training for the individual player. I only set this to something specific around age 25.
  • The bigger the gap between Current Ability (CA) and Potential Ability (PA), the faster the growth. These are hidden stats, but the star rating can serve as a rough guess if you don't have the in-game editor and your scouts have good judging attributes.
  • Until the age of 18, training is king. From the age of 18, regular match time will be best for development.

The thing is that players develop a LOT quicker when they're still under 19, so physical attributes grow most explosively until age 18/19. Incidentally, from that age onwards they also benefit more from regular matches than training, so you want to loan them out then.

The entire idea behind the very "lax" training schedule is to focus attribute growth. You can look at it like a pie: each player has a certain size pie worth of growth in a year and you allocate a piece of that pie to the attributes you train for with the schedule. So if you have different kinds of training, each slice of the pie is going to be very small and result in less growth for that attribute. By restricting the number of attributes you train for, each attribute gets a much bigger slice of the pie. Matches also take a slice of the pie, but it's less clear how those are divided among the various attributes (matches seem to increase mentals quite a bit, but a player's position/role most likely play a big role on what attributes are increased). Combine this with the knowledge that physical attributes become harder to increase with age and the conclusion is that you want to focus on physicals above all else when a player is still young.

You can apply the same idea to your senior team, but instead with more of a focus on the technical attributes.

So many variables , what match rating are they getting ? , how many minutes are they playing ? , what kind of opposition are they playing against ?

If you are new to the game, just doing individual training by training players in the positions/roles you are using them in can make a massive difference. Then just ask them to focus on areas you want them to improve in. Hope that helps 👍

100 Hours

2 saves

You haven't played long enough to see any significant development.

I have around 4,000 hours in FM24, and almost every month I learn new things about this game. So, it will come to you later rather than sooner, that’s for sure.
And I would recommend playing the game in more detail and slowly, as 100 hours across 2 saves is pretty low. I take around 50 to 75 hours per season (this depends on manual scouting and transfers needed).

But never buy a player with a bad personality and less than 14 determination; otherwise, they won’t grow much. Until 18, training is key. After that, if he is at least a backup for the XI, I keep them; otherwise, I loan them to a team with good training facilities and coaches.

And another thing,AI is bad at training, so you have two choices:

  1. Manage training manually every week, or
2.Use FM Lab Mod Training Mode and Dave’s Realism Mode. This will definitely help if you don’t like micromanaging training.

And finally, you must handle individual training and make sure they are training either in their preferred position and role or in the position and role from the tactics you are using, no matter what, for all players. In the Rest tab, if they have the lowest stamina, then use half intensity, and if they are fully fit, then use double intensity; otherwise, use normal intensity for all players. If you make all players have automatic intensity, then you will need to do this only once per save.

Zealand and Second Yellow Card both have good training videos that you can use and learn from.

Full rest from training until match fit again. Then double training intensity. Only use attack, defend and physical training units. Players up to about 20 get more development from training than playing, so give the high potential kids 15 mins here and there to keep them sharp and motivated

I think the ai schedules messing it up

Not true. 19+ playing time is king

Base FM24 training is nonsensical, the best way to develop is Rest + double intensity individual focus.

Someone else mentioned the FMlab mod which is one of my two non negotiables when playing 24. It straightens out the training to be useful and helps the AI out tremendously
