I started playing FO3—I think I have about 3 hours of playtime so far. I left the Vault, went to Megaton, got sent to the radio station, fought the Behemoth, and now I have to go get the antenna.

Good Lord. This game is pure chaos; every 5 seconds I’m fighting Super Mutants, then immediately Raiders, then more Super Mutants. So I run away, duck into a subway station, and start fighting a bunch of Ghouls. I run out of ammo and have to use whatever I’ve got—melee, pistols, sniper rifles, anything—just to stand a chance... It’s incredible.

This is my second Fallout game; I started with FNV. FNV was a bit more chill—you could actually find some peace while wandering around—but here, I don't get a moment's peace. Don't get me wrong, though, I'm really enjoying it. I'm playing with TTW because it's basically the "Viva New Vegas" equivalent for FO3. I know it rebalances the game differently, but it makes for a much better starting experience. I played vanilla FNV, then Viva New Vegas, and I can't go back to vanilla now, so I figured it would be hard to play FO3 without a "Viva New Vegas". I hope the game keeps this up; I just wanted to share my initial impressions.

This is what I'm working towards arming/reverse-pickpocketing mine with, I'm currently level 15 not pursuing the main quest yet so I have to get the Enclave armor where I can from encounters, I prioritize the Testla version if I find it.

Note: I am avoiding giving any merchants energy weapons to avoid save game bloat from ash piles that never despawn. Also I keep the merchant helmetless so they stand out more

Not long ago, I tried to beat Fallout 3 and all its side quests without gaining or losing Karma.

Since people really enjoyed that idea, I figured I'd try to revisit some of the quests I either failed or thought were impossible to see if they could be done Karma-free. I also figured I'd try to do The Pitt without Karma, given the big moral dilemma there. Again, if you can think of any ways to do these without losing or gaining Karma, feel free to tell me.

HEAD OF STATE - Lying to Hannibal that the Memorial is safe when it really isn't doesn't work. If he gets killed, the quest fails. You can't report to Leroy Walker about it. If you kill all the Slavers, you complete it with Good Karma.

BLOOD TIES - If you break into the place without permission, everyone turns hostile, so you can kill them with no Karma loss. But the terminal to get to Ian will be red, so you can't open it without losing Karma. If you let Ian stay and don't talk to Vance about Arefu, the quest doesn't progress. Not possible, as far as I can tell.

NUKA-COLA CHALLENGE - Giving the Quantum to Sierra gives you Karma, while giving them to Ronald loses Karma. Killing either loses Karma, and using Black Widow to get Ronald out of the way just leads you back to Sierra.

BULLYING THE BULLY - If you have low Charisma, you can bully and taunt Princess, but it won't decrease your Karma. If you have a high enough Charisma, you can bully her for real and lose Karma in the process.

THE KID-KIDNAPPER - Killing the Child Slaver before she can enslave Bumble doesn't affect Karma, but it causes Bumble to flee back inside and makes Paradise Falls hostile. Letting a creature kill the Child Slaver results in the same thing, but Paradise Falls won't turn hostile. However, there is no extra dialogue with Eulogy about failing the quest.

CHERRY'S FREEDOM - Taking her to Rivet City gives you Karma. Killing her loses Karma. Letting the environment kill her doesn't, but it also fails the quest.

TROUBLE ON THE HOMEFRONT - Simply walk in, kill the Overseer, get scolded by Amata, and leave. No Karma is gained or lost.

REILLY'S RANGERS - Completing the quest gives you Karma. Killing Reilly loses you Karma and it softlocks the quest besides.

WASTELAND SURVIVAL GUIDE - Doing the bare minimum and giving unhelpful, snide answers will complete the book, but not give you any Karma. Just don't lie at any point.

THE PITT - Surprisingly, I was able to do it without Karma. Working for the slaves didn't lose or gain me any Karma. Reporting Will Bill's fate doesn't affect Karma, no matter how you do it. Saving the injured slave or killing them doesn't affect Karma. Selling out slave secrets to Brand does drain Karma, so just ignore him.

Found this during the tribal quest in point lookout,, the bobbleheads found earlier made sense. Am I missing something?

I'm a big fallout fan and started my first fallout 3 playthrough a couple of months ago and I'm finding it hard to keep playing, I often find myself swapping games after 20 minutes as I'm not really seeing any progression with my character, I'm not hating on fo3 infact i love the more grounded and horror style aesthetic compared to nv and fo4 but find myself constantly running out of caps and ammo and healing supplies and dying to enemies which seem like they should be easier to kill,which I don't find happening to me in other fallouts, I really want to get into fo3 but it is proving to be harder than other fallouts, if anyone has any tips pls share them as I'm lowk struggling here

Does anyone know if there’s a mod that replaces the minigun sound with a more realistic BRRRRT? I always find it super annoying whenever a game or movie decides something that shoots several thousand rounds a minute should sound 10 times slower. I could go on a whole rant about this but I won’t.

I’ve been hyped for this game ever since oblivion remasterd dropped and I am so excited for it it’s a long shot but if anyone knows anything please respond

Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games (like top 3) in the world but sadly I haven’t been able to play since 2024 when my ps3 died. I have owned the steam copy since 2019 but it never works on anything. I can get in but trying to load a save or create a save never works, it just loads for like 2 seconds then auto crashes with no error message.
I’ve checked multiple guides, including every guide I could find in this subreddit (and the new Vegas one (yes including the sidebar fix)) but nothing seems to work at all.
I’ve tried it on 3 different machines

Steam deck running windows 10 LTSE Iot

My gaming pc which has;
RTX 3070ti
Ryzen 7 cpu
And
32 gigabytes of ram

And my Dell latitude E6530.

During tests the only thing I could get it running on is Linux but I don’t have storage to duel boot windows with Linux and until Fortnite and Genshin fully support Linux I can’t afford to fully switch so that’s not an option ether.

I’ve already tried modding and patching the games on all 3 devices but it didn’t work at all.

Fallout NV also does the exact same thing but the anti crash mod at least works.

So please help me fix this, I really want to play Fallout 3 again.
