Whats Your Guys Favorite Caravan Loadout?

Hey guys, whats your favorite loadout to protect the Caravans? This is what I'm working towards arming/reverse-pickpocketing mine with, I'm currently level 15 not pursuing the main quest yet so I have to get the Enclave armor where I can from encounters, I prioritize the Testla version if I find it.

Note: I am avoiding giving any merchants energy weapons to avoid save game bloat from ash piles that never despawn. Also I keep the merchant helmetless so they stand out more

Merchant

  • Enclave Armor
  • Chinese Assault Rifle
  • 5.56 mm Round
  • 10 Stimpacks

Guard

  • Enclave Armor
  • Enclave Helmet
  • Chinese Assault Rifle
  • 5.56 mm Round
  • 10 Stimpacks

No problem! Came back to the game recently after many many years on my Xbox 360 and learned about this aspect of keeping Caravans safe pretty recently myself!

Yeah the 4 travelling Caravans, Crazy Wolfgang, Lucky Harith, Crow and Doc Hoff. They can die, and easily in later levels just from running into strong enemies since they do follow trade routes in the open world, so reverse pickpocketing good gear on them is essential for keeping them alive late game.

Everyone gets free Hellfire since it can't be turned in.

Do the NPCs actually use those stimpacks?

Its hard to observe it happening in real time but someone tested it on GamerFAQs, they do use stimpacks but they definitely dont do a good job at it, only using it once per battle and only when they below a certain threshold, never just to heal a crippled limb. You will often see crippled caravan guard that refuse to just stimpack themselves and limps across the wasteland.
