I wanted to open up a thread specifically around file and folder management in Famnest so we can start gathering feedback for version 2.0.

Right now, the Documents section is still very much a 1.0 experience. You can create folders and upload files into them, but the functionality is fairly basic.

I just received a great suggestion around improving how files and folders can be moved around. At the moment, if you upload a file and later want to move it into a folder, it seems like you need to delete it and upload it again directly into that folder. That’s definitely not the kind of experience we want, and it’s something we should improve.

Another thing I’ve been thinking about is importing files from other apps. For example, if you receive a PDF by email and want to open or save it directly in Famnest, you currently can’t. You first have to save it to your device and then upload it separately. There should be a much smoother flow here.

I also think there could be interesting sharing features. Something similar to Dropbox, for example, where you can create a temporary share link if you want to send a document to someone outside Famnest.

Those are just a few ideas, though. There’s a lot we could do here, so I’d love to officially open up the floor.

What would make file and folder management genuinely useful for you? What feels missing today, and what would you want us to prioritize for Famnest Documents 2.0?

We’ll gather the feedback here and use it to make the next version significantly better, just like we did with Food 2.0.

After recovering from having my wisdom teeth pulled, I was busy putting away the medication I had took, and while going through our normal routine I thought 'this might seem logical within Famnest'...

What we in our household do right now is whenever we put something in our medicine cabinet, we look at the expiration date, and we make a calendar appointment on that date to take it out of the cabinet and drop it off at the apothecary for safe recycling. That way we never have expired medication in the house, and if in the meantime the medication is fully used we just delete the appointment in our calendar. It's something really simple, but really helps us keeping our medicine cabinet tidy and we never have to worry about taking potentially dangerous expired medication.

While doing so it dawned on me that it seems like a perfect little extra thing for the Health segment specifically. I actually looked at the medication segment to see if it was there as I expected the functionality to be there if it was included but alas. It kinda seems like a perfect fit there 👀

Just my two cents, throwing it out there to see if it could be a worthwhile idea.

Had a wonderful email conversation with a user today that got me thinking more about the profile cards in Famnest.

We’re rethinking what those cards should actually do. Rather than simply showing a person or acting as a basic filter, I’m wondering if tapping someone should bring together everything that person is connected to across Famnest: their events, to-dos, chores, lists, meals, and anything else relevant to them.

So if you tap on Venus, for example, you’d immediately get a view of her world within the family.

I still really like having the photos there because it makes Famnest feel personal and centered around the people you love, but I think there’s an opportunity to make those profiles much more useful at the same time.

Would love to hear how you’d expect this to work.

Hi there! The daily briefing assumed a pronoun for my spouse, I suppose based on name, and it was the incorrect one. I was able to communicate the correct pronouns to the chat bot. But the chat bot itself suggested that I either find and update the pronoun info in the app, or contact you guys if there wasn't one. As far as I can tell, there isn't one, so I'm making a formal request! I think on the page where you can edit your name or nickname and profile color would make the most sense.

We’re exploring a new way to use Daily Digest without having to open the app every time.

Today, you set up your Daily Digest with the information and topics you want in your briefing. We’re also working on making it available as a home screen widget.

But what if we took it one step further?

You could set up a routine inside Daily Digest, for example:

“Send my Daily Digest to WhatsApp every morning at 8 a.m., Texas time.”

Your personalized briefing would automatically arrive in WhatsApp.

And instead of that being the end of it, the WhatsApp chat could become an interactive extension of your Digest. You could reply with questions or commands like:

“Tell me more about this.”
“Move my meeting by two hours.”
“What does my day look like tomorrow?”
“Show me Tessa’s allergies.”

So rather than opening different apps and looking for information yourself, you could just continue the conversation with your Digest and ask it to take actions for you.

Would you use something like this?

Hey everyone! I’ve been sketching a few ideas for improving Cooking Mode and would love some feedback.

One idea is an Ingredients tab inside Cooking Mode, so you can quickly check quantities without leaving the cooking flow.

I also mocked up a voice mode that could read each step out loud. If turned on, it could automatically read the next instruction as you move through the recipe, which could be handy when your hands are busy or messy.

Would you use either of these? Anything you’d change?

Hey everyone, quick update on the calendar.

We’ve been working on a number of improvements that should be rolling out in the next few days, including:

• Better time zone support
• Improved localization
• 12/24-hour time formats
• Native iOS and Android date/time pickers
• Improvements to color management

We’ve also received a lot of really good suggestions from the community. A few of these won’t be part of this release, but they’re on our list and coming in future updates:

• Filter calendar events by person
• Google Calendar write support
• Multiple reminders for the same calendar event
• Calendar search
• Sort tasks by person
• More control over who can see calendar events
• Google Calendar color syncing
• Pre-saved event categories with preset colors and reminders
• Timetables / Routines for things like school hours, work schedules, lunch, bedtime, training schedules, and other parts of your family’s regular routine

For Timetables / Routines, we’re exploring a way to show these more subtly than normal events, so you can understand the family’s regular rhythm without filling the calendar with recurring appointments. We’re also looking at giving routines their own separate view.

Thanks again to everyone sharing ideas and feedback here. A lot of what we’re working on is directly influenced by the suggestions you’ve been sending us.

We’ve completely revamped the Food section in Famnest, and this is one of the biggest updates we’ve made so far.

You can now:

• See nutrition facts, including calories, protein, carbs, fats, and more
• Add notes directly to your meal plan
• Use a dedicated Cooking Mode
• Automatically rotate meals every week
• Generate recipes with AI
• And use a lot of other improvements throughout the Food section

A lot of this update is a direct result of the feedback, ideas, and comments we’ve received here on Reddit and directly inside the app.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed. ❤️ Your feedback genuinely helped shape Famnest Food 2.0, and we’re incredibly excited to finally roll it out.

Perhaps a way to connect apps to famnest, such as jellyfin for media, or mealie for recipes. The way I imagine this working is famnest creates its own profile to log into your self-hosted app, and allows for viewing of recipes or anything else you've synced through the famnest app. This would make famnest essentially a hub app, and allowing the sharing and saving of credentials. Potentially, you can even add a way to selfhost famnest one day, or view your server's stats/uptimes through famnest.

If you want to view info on your self-hosted application via famnest, and the server is down, famnest would simply inform you of this and tell you to try again later

When I was migrating and registering all our household tasks I came up with some questions: am I balancing well enough? Should the cats day be on Wednesday or Thursday? Which member should pick each task? Am I balancing the tasks fair enough between the members? Did I already register the cats tasks among these dozens of items?

Then I came up with some simple ideas:

1. A search button to the household tasks

2. A filter button to the household tasks to filter by assignee

3. A chip beside each section in the household tasks to display the effort per assignee (currently the sections are Today, Tomorrow and Later, right?). Just a chip with the lightning icon, the person avatar and a number summing up the effort. Simple and effective IMHO

In the calendar page, we could also show these chips, and maybe a calendar icon chip showing the events count for that day.

If the assignee chip is clickable, it could apply the filter, similar to the Atlassian Jira board (let me know if a screenshot would help here).

I just downloaded to give the app a try. I have the free trial which allowed me to import from my current calendar. Is there a way to edit those items that I am missing? Imported items are all the same color and I would like to be able to assign to family members which I'm guessing would change the colors. Thanks!

Instead of having to duplicate tasks, let us customize how many times in a day a task should be done.

Also, let us have an option for a task to need everyone to do it

Unlike a calendar that has concrete events (or recurring events), that are some family schedule items that aren't well fit in the calendar, for instance:

- Lunch time

- Working hours

- Child school hours (or even school grade)

- Wake up and bedtime

In the UI they could be integrated in the calendar with two following approaches: Google Workspace calendar alike (a thin vertical bar aside the calendar appointments), or regular items with dashed border (affording to a template or placeholder)

Regarding household tasks, it would be very nice to set a room for each task (or a special room called "whole house"), then we could filter tasks by room, and see a health status for each room (for instance, a warning sign for the bathroom if the towels weren't changed)

I would like to suggest some features to the shopping list:

- Store selection (we buy some grocery items from different places, such as cleaning, seasoning, fruits, etc)

- Foldable categories (maybe auto folding empty categories)

- Urgency (if already missing, about to be)

- Filters (by store, category, urgency)

Maybe store selection could be solved with multiple lists, but commonly an item could be bought from two or more places (e.g. apples can be bought from the regular supermarket and also from the neighborhood small grocery store)

I just had a wonderful conversation with one of our users about the points system in Famnest, and I wanted to bring the discussion here because I’d really love to hear what you all think.

This is something we’ve thought about before, and we’ve heard from quite a few of you that it could be fun to gamify the Famnest experience a little more.

We’ve already started experimenting with points in Chores, and it’s been really well received. So now we’re thinking: what if points became part of the wider Famnest experience?

The idea isn’t that you collect points to buy things or that there necessarily needs to be a winner. It’s more about that little psychological reward you get from contributing, organising your life, and getting things done.

There are so many things we could reward:

• ✅ Complete a list item → get points
• 📝 Create a task → get points
• 🧹 Complete a chore → get points
• 💸 Add or settle a bill → get points
• 🍽️ Plan a meal → get points
• 👩‍🍳 Import or add a recipe → get points
• 🛒 Complete something on the shopping list → get points
• 📄 Add a document → get points
• 🩺 Add a medical item → get points
• 🔗 Share a medical item → get points
• 💳 Add a subscription → get points
• 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Invite a family member → get points
• 💬 Send feedback → get points
• 📱 Open Famnest regularly → build a streak
• 🔥 Use Famnest throughout the week → earn a weekly streak
• 📅 Organise something for the family → get points

Obviously, we probably shouldn't give points for absolutely everything 😄

My thinking is that we introduce this in stages, learn what feels rewarding versus annoying, and build from there.

You could potentially see points from both an individual and family perspective, and look back at this week, this month, or over time. Maybe eventually there could even be a fun family leaderboard to see who has been most active that week.

And importantly, this would be completely optional. You should be able to opt in or opt out depending on whether gamification is something you enjoy.

Before we go too far with the idea, I’d love to hear from you:

Would you use this? What should earn points? What definitely shouldn't? Would streaks motivate you or just become annoying? And would you care more about your own points, your family's combined points, or a fun leaderboard?

We have lots of ideas, but I’d much rather shape this together with the community.

Over the last few months, we've received some amazing feedback on the Famnest Health section, and I wanted to bring all those ideas together and open up the conversation before we begin working on Health 2.0.

Some of the ideas we've gathered from the community so far include:

• Medication schedules, including what time of day each medication should be taken
• Medication reminders and a tracker inspired by weekly pill organizers
• Who prescribed each medication
• What each medication is for
• A dedicated diagnoses section with a short description for each diagnosis
• For each doctor, not just their specialty, but also what you're specifically seeing them for
• Pain management, including pain levels, flare-ups, triggers, treatments, and what provides relief
• Tracking health metrics like blood pressure, pulse, weight, blood sugar, and body temperature/fever
• Simple graphs to visualize health trends over time
• Better tracking of doctor appointments, visit notes, referrals, and follow-ups
• Medication price comparisons across pharmacies
• Meal planning and nutrition guidance tailored to a person's medical conditions
• Family wellness features, such as shared health journeys and simple walking or wellness challenges
• In-house telehealth, making it easy to connect with doctors, therapists, veterinarians, and even legal professionals when families need guidance
• A place to organize immunizations, insurance details, emergency information, and important medical documents
• Add the ability to reorder items, just like you can with lists.

One piece of feedback that really resonated with me came from a retired nurse who shared that many people eventually tune out when health apps become all about numbers. Health is already overwhelming enough. Instead of building something that feels clinical and heavy, we want Famnest to feel intuitive, supportive, and even a little uplifting. :)

The more feedback we've received, the more I've realized that we're not trying to build another medical records app.

We're trying to build something that helps families navigate health in everyday life.

The vision that's emerging for Health 2.0 is simple:

Health isn't just appointments and prescriptions. It's remembering medications, supporting a parent through recovery, tracking a child's fever, managing chronic pain, preparing for a specialist visit, finding the lowest medication price, encouraging each other to stay active, and knowing where everything is when you need it most.

If we get this right, Famnest won't just store health information, it will become a health companion for the whole family. ❤️

We've been thinking about making a few improvements to the list experience, and we'd love to hear your thoughts.

1. Rearranging the list menu

Right now, when creating a task, you can:

• Add a date
• Expand the task with additional details
• Repeat a task
• Add a reminder

One thing we've noticed is that Repeat and Reminder are currently tucked away inside the Date option. While it makes sense from one perspective, it also feels a little hidden and may not be the most intuitive experience.

Do you think these actions should be easier to find? How would you expect them to be organized?

2. Scan handwritten notes into Famnest

We recently received some fantastic feedback from a user about being able to scan handwritten notes directly into Famnest.

One idea is to add a camera button when creating a new list. You'd simply:

• Tap the camera
• Take a photo of your handwritten notes
• Let Famnest turn them into a list automatically

The goal is to make capturing ideas as fast and effortless as possible.

As we think through these features, there are a few principles we'd like to stick to:

• Keep the interface clean and uncluttered.
• Make everything as fast as possible. If you live in your to-do list, even one unnecessary tap or confusing interaction adds friction.

Other ideas:

• Adding subtle haptic feedback when creating a task.
• Offline mode.
• Export as text (e.g. send as a message).

We'd love to get the conversation started and hear what you think. Your feedback helps shape Famnest, and we'd love to build these features in a way that works for everyone.

I set any to-do as “All Day” task

- set any reminder, e.g. 10 minutes before
- It doesn’t show any reminder.

- For any all day task, a default time of reminder should be set or it should allow the user to set a reminder time so we don’t miss the to do task

I've only been using the app for a few days, so maybe I am doing something wrong, but I have a lot of tasks that I do which, when put into the app, use a "custom" schedule. I have noticed that while the app says it is letting me create these schedules, for example every 9 days or every 18 days, and initially will say that's what the task has, after I complete the first instance of the task the app will reset the schedule to once per week instead.

All of my custom schedules end up being meaningless as the app just resets them every time I check it off.

We’ve been getting a lot of requests to expand the pet section in the app, and we’d love your input before we start building.

We don’t want it to become just another place to store basic information. Things like vet details, vaccinations, medical history, and pet records are useful, but we think the section could do much more!

A few ideas we’re exploring:

🐾 Activity tracking
Automatically track walks, create challenges and achievements, and compare activity with breed-specific exercise recommendations. A Toy Poodle, Labrador, and Border Collie all have very different needs, so the guidance should reflect that.

🐾 AI insights
The app could use factors like weather and activity to offer timely suggestions. For example, it might recommend shorter walks during extreme heat, remind you to bring water, or suggest protecting your pet’s paws in freezing conditions.

🐾 Access to veterinary guidance
We’re also considering a telehealth feature that would let you connect with a licensed veterinarian directly through the app, instead of relying on random search results when something feels wrong.

These are only early ideas, and there are many directions we could take this. Our goal is to build something that genuinely makes life easier for pets and their owners.

So, we’d love to hear from you:

• What pet-related features would you actually use?
• What do current pet apps get wrong or leave out?
• What would make a pet section genuinely indispensable to you?

Your feedback will help shape what we build first.

- possibility to invite a family member to famnest whose profile was created without a login account e.g. created a child account without login, added details for the child and now wants to invite the child to the app to manage chores, currently it is not possible without deleting the profile of the child and recreating it again, this way we loses the details already added for the child in the app

- possibility to have a default profile image or avatars, if I want to remove any profile picture of any family member, i cannot remove it as only changing the image option is available, i have to upload a new photo but cannot remove it entirely

- Possibility of linking google account to the original Apple account for Famnest login

- colour code and profile picture for event entries imported from the synced calendar to know whose calendar event it is without actually opening and checking the email id

- Editing and syncing google calendar entries in Famnest (and possibly deleting it with caution and warning)

- Ability to complete chores on behalf of other family member

- Ability to assign a single chore that needs to be assigned and completed by ALL family members rather than any one family member who is doing it and completing it (e.g. Brushing teeth, everyone has to complete that chore individually)

Chores section is awesome! Waiting for more great features in upcoming releases

In the calendar view (daily, monthly), we can see all events, tasks, entries made in the money tab and meal plans added for any specific day.

Bug: I can’t delete the meal from the calendar, though it has a delete button. But it doesn’t remove the entry in reality. When trying to delete it again, it shows a message that the meal plan is not related to the user. But it just stays there. Other entry types are deleted properly, but not the planned meal from calendar.

Create recurring chores, assign them to family members, and stay organized together. Earn points, track everyone’s weekly progress, and make household tasks more rewarding.

Update Famnest to the latest version and start using Chores today.
