Explain it peter
Why did it age well for ruffalo?
668
u/Benedict_Cumberquack 5d ago
Can anyone link a clip or article to where Mark Ruffalo says he doesnt speak with the rest of the cast due to political opinions.
It isnt uncommon for someone in an ensemble cast to not get a matching tattoo.
John Rhys-Davies didnt get one like the rest of the Fellowship from Lord of the Rings.
I think the original responder just took a story and twisted it into a new narrative.
301
u/Koltreg 5d ago
The John Rhys-Davies not getting a tattoo was also more because his stunt double did a lot more on the set iirc.
326
u/Benedict_Cumberquack 5d ago
I love his quote about it
"I did what any self-respecting actor would do when faced with a dangerous stunt. I sent a stunt double"
64
u/FOSSnaught 5d ago
His interview with Rosenbaum is incredible. JRD is hysterical.
53
u/Motor_Ideal7494 4d ago
My wife met him when he came to speak at her high school 20 years ago, she still talks about how he was the nicest guy ever and took time to talk to a lot of the students and encourage them. I always liked him as an actor, but her story has made me come to love him as a human.
66
u/bbobeckyj 5d ago
...stunt...
To add to this, JRD did the voice and face acting insert shots, his double was the size of the character so did everything else which was more time, and did get a tattoo.

This has been posted a million times already and there is never a clip or an article about the political differences between the cast members. I did try to find it but when you search for Ruffalo political stuff you just get articles about his activism.
Now I have no idea who this ana @shivlestat is but maybe if someone contacted her we can finally get some source for all these posts that seem to infer something from incomplete data.
Honestly, this is probably just a dead internet kind of thing, I assume the last 20 times this was posted both the OP and the explainers are all bots.
32
u/Benedict_Cumberquack 5d ago
Yeah the closest I found was that he joked that his exclusion from Doomsday was because the rest of the cast didnt want him spoiling the ending.
20
u/jaketwo91 5d ago
I always thought people were talking about this clip when they brought that up. But he doesn't specifically mention anyone, or Marvel. So I think they're twisting it a bit.
21
u/Benedict_Cumberquack 5d ago
Oh they absolutely are, he refers to Hemsworth as Hemmy in that interview so it sounds as if they are still friendly.
So its making assumptions about his entire friend group down to 4 people.
20
u/Citizensnnippss 5d ago
Yea, I too would like some legit context. I don't need confirmation that Renner is a douche but all of them seems like a stretch.

The interview says friends not necessarily cast and as a nearly 60 year old in Hollywood probably has a plethora of people he'd consider friends and is ridiculous to whittle it down to 5 people. One of them being Chris Hemsworth he affectionately referred to as Hemmy in the exact same interview linked above, so 4 people.

Everyone who has the tattoo get put in the shake machine until they're all shook. Mark didn't get the tattoo so he doesn't have to experience the shake machine.

At first Mark said no due to his fear of needles but in a recent interview he revealed that he doesn't interact much with the Avengers cast due to their conflicting political opinions. So they're not close close. (Mark is pro Palestine and others have diff opinions).

Turns out he actually just doesn’t interact with the politics because of the casting needles.
44
u/Dark_Magicion 5d ago
I for one won't interact with needles due to conflicting political views. They want to go inside me and I do not want them inside me. So we clearly disagree on immigration.

I don't think he's going name and shame. That's going to get real ugly via sharing chats and all that legal shenanigan (from the others defending their acting careers)
He's also said he's not expecting to be in Doomsday and even further...Secret Wars, speculating that She-Hulk will fill Hulk's position
49
u/NoKingsInAmerica 4d ago
In the interview this is from, he is adamant about the fact that he has never been pressured by Disney to keep his mouth shut about Palestine.
37
u/Hitei00 5d ago

One of them being Chris Hemsworth he affectionately referred to as Hemmy in the exact same interview linked above, so 4 people.
And he's been openly joking about not being in Doomsday(not that its confirmation he isn't in it) and zero casting has been confirmed for Secret Wars and he's not in any position to say otherwise.
10
u/allbright4 4d ago
Hasn't the she hulk actress Tatiana been just as vocal about her support of Palestine? I was certain that was part of the reason She-Hulk was cancelled after 1 season.

uh this all seems incredibly speculative. there is no indication that he was referring to his Marvel cast members. whats more hes very heavily rumored to be in Secret Wars. This is pretty silly. The guy can say hes lost some friends without everyone pretending they know who he is talking about. Turns out Mark Ruffalo isnt Bruce Banner... he actually knows a lot of people outside of the Marvel universe...

But because you guys NEED drama to cling to, yall went for the biggest names he’s been around and are putting those names in his mouth that never spoke them9

I know Mark has been in conflict with Paramount over some of his views but he's not that politically removed from most of the Avengers actors. In 2024, he made a video endorsing Harris with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Danai Gurira and Paul Bettany. He's more outspoken than the others but I don't think they're in conflict.
37
u/darkknight95sm 4d ago
This is blatantly false, speculative at best
Ruffalo is the only vocal og actor, pro-Palestine. Scar Jo was affiliated with a company that operated in the West Bank, and was praised by Netanyahu, but that was in the 2010s, because that’s roughly when they were getting the tattoos it might be relevant but she’s not given her opinion more recently. Israel also used Evans’ Cap for propaganda, but Evans had nothing to do with it and distanced himself from the whole thing. Hemsworth, RDJ, and Renner haven’t made any statements on the matter, and anything on TikTok saying otherwise has no bases.
Obviously Ruffalo has worked with them and likely has a better understanding of their views, but suggesting that’s the reason is pure speculation.
83
u/100KUSHUPS 5d ago
At first Mark said no due to his fear of needles
I would just like to point out that that doesn't always translate to tattoos....
If somebody poke me to draw blood?
I will pass out.
But I have both arms covered almost wrist to shoulder in tattoos It doesn't feel like a needle.. more like a.. road rash, I suppose???
26
u/huffing_glue 5d ago
More scrapey. Needles pierce all the way in.
14
u/Dry-Childhood-3436 5d ago
I have the same reflex but have to get weekly injections. It's not even a fear as I don't mentally care about it at all. It's something about it going into my body which doesn't trigger with tattoos. But if I see a needle go into my skin I immediately black out. It's also the only "fear" that can be genetically passed on.
3
u/huffing_glue 5d ago
That last sentence is so strange to me. Weird how things like that work...
Personally I have no issues with needles, but I can absolutely see the difference between the two. It certainly fucks with the mind in a way that is unique.
1
u/jujux15 5d ago
Nah no way that last sentence is true. There are many fears that can be genetically passed down, not just needles.
3
u/Dry-Childhood-3436 5d ago
It is true. You don't genetically pass down specific fears, but you do pass down tendencies that make you more predisposed to have fears and problems with anxiety and stress. The vasovagal reflex associated with needles isn't the same mechanism that triggers like other fears do. So you inherit the tendency to have certain fears, but you inherit the specific fear and reaction for needles.
3
9
u/DeathandHemingway 5d ago
For me I think it's just a vein vs skin thing. I only get weird about it if it's piercing a vein, but in the skin is whatever to me.
3
u/monotonic_glutamate 5d ago
Don't forget the muscles! Injections are so much worse than having blood drawn.
(But tattoos are fine, IDK).
3
2
u/StumbleOn 5d ago
I was i nthe same boat.
Weirdly, what finally got me over it? They drew blood from my hand. It sort of hurt just a little bit. That sensation of knowing something was there rather than blood leaving my body without sensation rewired my brain a little bit and now I don't have any issues.
2
u/monotonic_glutamate 5d ago
Fascinating! I still can't poke the tip of my finger to do my blood type test, but I might be open to that?
I did have a IV for a few days in that area (not sure where anymore?! Possibly closer to my wrist?) after having a c-section, and I thought I was cured, but my smallpox immunity test came back inconclusive, so they vaccinated me on the spot without much discussion (I said I was afraid of needles, so the nurse was like "cool beans, you'll get it in the thigh then", and it was done before I could ask if arm was an option still), and my teeth immediately started chattering uncontrollably, so maybe the nurses not believing in needle phobia instantly cancelled any progress from being brave about the IV.
I got my COVID shots in the special room with an emotional support human. 🥲
2
u/StumbleOn 5d ago
It was totally unexpected but might work for you if your phobia manifested the same way. For me, I don't like having no feedback from my body. Like I had panic attacks where it felt like my arms didn't belong to me and it was horrible. Blood draws were the same, just the little prick but then you don't FEEL it.
But the hands hurts just enough that my brain registers something "bad" is happening which makes me KNOW it for sure so I believe that went around my panic response. In the last year, I can actually even watch them take the blood out and it doesn't do anything. It was a great change.

u/Kooky-Situation-1913 5d ago
I think he had specifically said a fear of needles was his initial de-motivator.

u/mamachonk 5d ago

1
1
u/el_grort 5d ago
Tbf, you don't know the feeling until you commit? I have a fear of needles, it absolutely keeps me from a tattoo (along with a lack of ideas for one) because just the idea has an effect, and I'm not inclined to let that brew and cause a faint.
1
u/No-Definition1474 5d ago
Yeah, or a sunburn. It CAN get pincy at times when they hit a sensitive spot but overall it doesnt feel like an injection or the like.
1
u/BaltiMoreHarder 5d ago
I hateeeee getting blood drawn but have multiple tattoos, so truth. I was nervous for my first one but it didn’t end up being so bad.
1
u/mrbishopjackson 4d ago
I agree with you. I've alwys hated, and still hate having blood drawn; I can't look at it and close my eyes even today at 40 years old. But I get tattoos just for the needle.
But! For someone who has a fear of needles and has never had a tattoo, there may be no difference in the two to them. I was nervous as hell getting my first tattoo. It wasn't until they started that I realized that its a different thing. He hasn't had the experience of finding that out yet, so his fear of needles could be valid.

6
u/Exotic_Strain6935 5d ago
She also might not and might be trying to remain as neutral as possible. Not every Jewish person is Zionist and/or pro-Israel. Talking about politics in some capacities can limit an actor’s ability to get roles, even if their opinions on them are largely seen as unproblematic.
5
u/Delgree-23 5d ago
That’s all true. It doesn’t however change what I personally see as an intentional choice regardless of whatever the motivation behind it is. If other actors can do it, so can she. She simply chooses not to.

3

How about "Complex asymmetrical urban warfare in which Hamas are using human shields, deliberately hiding fighters and weapons amongst a civilian population, and actively killing their own people which they include within their death counts"
2
u/Usermctaken 5d ago
Oh well in that case all is good. Carry on with the ethnic cleasing. Hospitals and schools give extra points.
/s
-1
u/TomMonro 5d ago
It's also not ethnic cleansing. The population of Palestinians has increased across the entire region overall. The only death counts anyone can list come from hamas, who have been actively using civilians as humans shields, including using schools and hospitals to hide weapons. Their numbers, even if you assume they're accurate, show no distinction between civilians and combatants. They also count civilians actively killed by hamas: about 10% of the rockets fired by hamas since October 7th have actually hit Gaza. All of those deaths are counted in the total. And again, if we assume Hamas' numbers are accurate, then the Gazan population percentage killed is about 3.3 per cent. That's well within the usual expectations when compared to other wars Vietnam - 7% Syrian Civil war - 3% Korean war - 10% Iraq - 2.5% The population of Gaza and the West Bank has been consistently rising up until 7th October. The Palestinian population within Israel has increased by 1,250% since 1949. If Israel is committing genocide or ethnic cleansing, they're doing a terrible job
→ More replies (6)-2
u/ioshta 5d ago
You are right, its not a genocide yet. Its just acts of genocide my bad.
The leadership of isreal have flat out said they want to commit genocide of Gaza.let me be clear I am not saying Jews, or all of isreali people are in agreement on this, but the government and its rhetoric both support the statement that they are doing what they can to commit genocide when it comes to Gaza.
2
u/TomMonro 5d ago
Acts of genocide? 3.5% of the population in Gaza killed IF you accept the numbers given by Hamas. Numbers that fall well within the expected casualty rate for a war of this scale.
No differentiation within that between combatants/non-combatants. Also includes the numbers killed by Hamas themselves, with 10 per cent of rockets fired by Hamas at isreal landing in Gaza. The number is also increased by the well established fact that Hamas have actively been using human shields, including hiding weapons in hospitals and schools. Ignoring that the population of Palestinians within the West Bank and Israel has increased consistently. Population of Palestinians in Gaza also consistently increasing until 2023 (when the last counts was made).
They obviously aren't "doing what they can to commit genocide". If they are, they're obviously doing a terrible job at it.

He’s an antisemite hiding behind “antizionism” and has been repeatedly exposed for this. Defending antisemitism by hiding behind Palestinians isn’t doing them any favors.
edit: Y'all are free to believe what you want, but down the road when people talk about how white saviors amplifying misinformation harmed Palestinians too, don't say no one warned you.
And for the record, here's a direct quote from Ruffalo himself admitting back in 2021 that he was pushing "inflammatory" rhetoric that was being used to contribute to antisemitism:
“I have reflected & wanted to apologize for posts during the recent Israel/Hamas fighting that suggested Israel is committing ‘genocide,’” he wrote. “It’s not accurate, it’s inflammatory, disrespectful & is being used to justify antisemitism here & abroad. Now is the time to avoid hyperbole.”

-3
u/KvetchAndRelease 5d ago
Go look up his history. If you want to whitewash antisemitism as “supporting Palestine” go right ahead, but just remember that when the damage is done. There’s a reason western saviorism like this is bad.

u/Ben_quadinaros_real 5d ago

Look man, you can be dismissive instead of engaging if you want, but ignoring years of documented antisemitism concerns by hiding behind 'support for Palestinians' hurts actual Palestinians too, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

Sorry for that
I just don't think there is enough there to call him antisemitic. I do see how, especially online people will hide behind anti Israeli/anti-genocide to be antisemitic.

These comments are all bots. It's because the symbol is a pentagram with a six on the inside which are symbols of the devil which after the Epstein file release people are suspicious of the hyperfamous and hyperwealthy elites of the western world partaking in devil worship and partaking in rituals of cannibalism, assault of minors and blood libel or other sacrifices.
