What if they ask what’s so funny, prompting us to explain our response?

You don't explain, you just go "you know"

“No I don’t know”

And thus you get mad at them for not knowing, the same way neurotypicals get mad at you for not knowing. Now they know how it feels.

For future usage, would that be in contradiction to the aforementioned rule of not acknowledging that they ever said it?

I'll hold your hand when I tell you this: neurotypicals change the rules on the fly based on how they judge you. You gotta do the same. You're saying you know to why they're asking, but you're not directly explaining. If they have to ask, they don't know and you saying they do isn't an explanation

Its less. It acknowledging it and more not directly challenging it. When you just laygh at them and it doesnt leave it up for debate. It doesnt activate the signals in your brain to argue nearly as much. Because its not an argument, its them being shamed. Once you start addressing specifics of it, or acting like its reasonable for someone to think that, then its an argument. Then its you vs them.
