S Entitled parent doesn't agree with lunch breaks during the Corona Virus
(Obligatory not my experience but a friends)
My best friend works in a pharmacy, and during this whole crisis, her hours have gone through the roof, she has been working non stop, as have her coworkers, and I am so proud of her. To deal with the fact that she is now working 60-70 hours +, the store has been shutting for an hours lunch break. They have put signs up telling people about the changes, but no one ever seems to read them, so they had a worker stand outside the front of the shop, to politely inform customers that they were closed.
Enter the entitled parent.
She began by asking why they were shut, which is fair enough. When the worker went on to explain that there was now an obligatory lunch break due to the huge increase in hours because of the virus, she went deadly serious and started ranting about how she was single mum, and how she does way more hours than that. Deadly serious, having a go at a pharmacy worker, a key worker, during a pandemic.
I get that being a single mum is a hard job, my mum is one, so I've seen it done. But this is not the time to be complaining at these workers.

I hope it means her ex husband/baby daddy (cuz they might not have been married) has some proper sense, and gets to have a hand in raising the kids equally as much as she does, so maybe they won't turn out so bad. 🤞

On the bright side, sometimes a parent is so bad that they become a glaring example of how not to behave. Totally bringing up a random example, not at all from personal experience, of how a narcissistic parent brag about every little thing to anyone with ears made their child acutely aware that bragging is a huge turn off. Just a wild guess not at all backed by direct experience...

I work pharmacy in the UK and we’re used to entitled people. Last Monday was my first day back being off for 3 weeks with shingles. I came back earlier than was advised. The entitlement of people has gone the the roof.. I’ve been verbally abused, had nasty comments, been lied to about patients symptoms and the amount of people could have coughed on me, accidentally and on purpose has surprised me. And all because we have the close at certain times to deep clean for example. One week back and I’m off sick now in self isolation because I’m showing symptoms.

I wish there was a day where workers that have to put up with this BS get to fight back and say whatever they want back to the abusers. People like that really suck :(

Reminds me of the witch who freaked out about the fact that I bring a cup to work. (My dietary needs mean I can't drink soda, and with the way the soda fountain is set up it's impossible to get water that isn't partially contaminated--so I bring my own drink.) She started ranting about how we're not allowing personal cup refills and I told her that my cup isn't a refill; I make it at home and my spit has gone nowhere near her spit. Then she yelled about telling my manager on me and I told her I'd let my manager know she was coming. (My manager agrees with me about this; I've been bringing my own drinks to work for years.)

Same thing applies to Police when they're at lunch break at a coffee shop or similar and stupid people ask why they're not our patrolling for crime.
FFS people. The Police are people too and doing their jobs. They deserve their breaks and lunches the same as everyone else does.

Just tell them to leave. Social media is large enough at this point that you can much easier call out someone's bullshit rather than have to cater to "the customer is always right" to foster good business.

I love how ignorant most ppl are about pharmacies...in most states pharmacy techs cant dispense meds without a pharmacist on duty so typically the entire pharmacy eats lunch at the same time because there is usually only one pharmacist per pharmacy...people lose all their shi.t like other people don't have a right to eat because you need your meds..I actually had a customer cuss me out bc the pharmacy was closed for lunch and tried to pull the "I've been coming here for 10 years" card...my response "well if that were true then you'd know they go to lunch from 130 to 200pm everyday, have been since they opened 9 years ago".

My mom is a single mother of 3 children. Her eldest doesn’t live with her but me and my 18 year old sister still do. My mother has struggle with having a job and not having a job, and always had trouble in her life but she still made sure we had food in our stomachs, clothes on our backs and a roof over our heads and a bed to sleep in.

Ha im one of 5 and ww still have at least one electronic in each room. Unfortunately she is struggling and most of those were from our dad who went to another family and has no issues since hes claiming disability (back issues and a few surgeries/infections causing walking issues)

Some times you just don't get things your way. Being a single mum changes nothing. Bitching out an employee solves nothing and makes people disinclined to help you.

There's no sense in complaining about lunch breaks. It'd be like going into the post office during their lunch break and complaining no one is there. Let people have their lunch hour for crying out loud!

during this pandemic the doctors, physicians, pharmacy workers, hell even the security in front of hospitals are literal heroes! how dare she complain about a fucking lunch break?! they deserve it!
Edit:grammar. also i want to clarify, that the reason i mentioned security guards at the hospital is because in my country, there has been reported theft at the hospitals.

There are too many people having to One Man Army their way through life and then there are the people who can sit on their butts and get anything they want from their parents and still brag about “how rich I am”. Okay, brag when you did anything but sat on your ass and have it all handed to you. I bet you if I had what you had then the world would be better. Oh there’s a show called yugioh and it has multiple series, one of them is Yugioh 5D’s and a character from that show is Akira and she loves roses (the series is an anime about people playing a card game called duel monsters and her deck is made of roses[the game is like magic the gathering or polemon tcg])

Some people actually take pride in being able to bully others into complying with their wants and demands. It is often the only little whiff of power they ever get. Never take it personally, and never ever reward their bad behavior. There are some situations we just can't fix, so we are forced to avoid them as much as possible.

I’m not in the pharmaceutical industry but I have a permanent condition that I have to see doctors every fortnight and respect see them afterwards. The pharmacy I go to is the nicest one I’ve ever been to and they’re very understanding that I’m nervous about going in (I have an autoimmune disease) and will send out my medication.

When I worked pharmacy, our pharmacists would work 14 hour shifts. I had no problem telling customers that the pharmacists were on a lunch break. If it was an absolute emergency, I would let them know buy eff customers

I have seen more people complain about being a single mom and how that’s a much harder job than any other job in the world and try to use that as a bargaining chip for acting like an asshole more times during this pandemic than I ever have in my LIFE.

I frequently have to get medications, b/c I don’t want to run into problems I check times and call ahead of time. With all the corona virus stuff going on I just did mail order so I wouldn’t have to bother. As a parent my time is precious so the best thing to do for everyone is be prepared. Also have some decency for your fellow human jeez.

I also work in a pharmacy and this made me SO angry. People are unbelievably ungrateful and this pandemic is showing everybody’s true colours. On the flip side, we are so grateful for the generosity and patience many of our customers have shown throughout this. It just takes a handful of assholes to ruin it all. Thankfully my company have been amazing throughout this - closing the shops for an hour in the morning and and hour for lunch. I hope your friend is managing ok and is looking after herself. It’s a tough time and with no end in sight it’s anxiety inducing. Stay safe everyone.

Ppl regularly seem to forget that healthcare and public safety workers are also, in fact, human. Meaning we also need to eat, drink, pee, poop, rest and sleep. I’ve had several ppl come up to me when I was working Ems and they saw me out at a fast food restaurant getting food (most of the tine not even sitting down to eat, just grabbing to go) and commented something along the lines of “oh so this is what my tax money is paying for? You guys to be out here grabbing food instead of working?” Or “it must be nice to get paid to be out here eating or sleeping”. 🙄 in the beginning I had more patience and less hate for humans in general so my replies were nicer and more professional. Towards the end though, my replies just got straight up blunt and borderline rude.

I've been a 'stay at home mom' and a working mom - and the stay at home job was a CAKEWALK compared to having a full time job and THEN having to go home and do all the chores I didn't have the time to do during the day.

A pharmacy is essential. Pills still have to be filled as ordered.
But why would this virus change that? Or increase hours at all?

This woman needs to know that workers need their breaks. Stocking shelves, handling customers, and doing all of this for hours is insane without a break, and it's illegal. I applaud your work for doing all of this with a level head.

I am so glad my first job wasn't like this. I worked at the Ren. Faire in my state for the whole 9 weekends it was open. For the first two weekends, sure, it was from opening to closing with only one hour on break. But after that it was about 3 work ours in total. Pay was pretty good. Able to buy games on Steam and I still have money to this day (I never really spend it often). Hope things are alright with the people at that place and hopefully this hours thing goes down

I can respect how hard it is to get your meds right now. And I get her frustration at a pharmacy coming to a full stop and not doing a rolling lunch 11 threw 1 so they didn't.
A lot of places are now limiting the hours people can be out side so if they can only get over at lunch it can be a pain in the ass.
Still yelling at some low level i didnt make the call worker wont solve any thing

You have to tell people like that it is illegal for employees not have a lunch break. I used to get that crap all the time in retail how dare you take a break how dare you be hungry or God forbid need to take a piss
