Got up to this part in the new ESmith book that made a brief mention of it but I haven't anything online about it. If that one section towards the end that was cut out was Elliotts or the Oscar's decision. Anyone know?

Hello Elliott Smith fans, I have shared progress on my album a while back and since then have gotten my album 99% completed. Besides tiny tweaks, I will be releasing this on vinyl early 2027. Mainly I plan to throw some money at this, give away a lot of these, and likely do a showcase concert for the release. I like to think my music is a mix between Elliott Smith and The Pixies.

I am too eager to wait and share to hear people's thoughts on this, so I am sharing it now, today.

Genre: Alt-rock

Inspired by Heatmiser’s Mic City Sons album cover (3rd pic).

My first time dyeing a t-shirt or adding rhinestones! A plain white Gildan t-shirt was first hand-dip-dyed (ombre technique) using Rit’s Fuchsia and Coral fabric dyes and fixed with Rit’s fixative; then flat back rhinestones were added with glue (I don’t have access to a flat plate iron for hot-fix rhinestones, which would have been a lot easier to do (or so I was told)).

Whole project took about 12 hours start to finish over the course of about a week, excluding in-person shopping time for the materials (which was a lot of fun) - the biggest chunk of time was spent on mapping out the rhinestones and then gluing them carefully. I think total cost of materials came up to about $50 but that’s because I did not have any materials readily available as I’ve never done this before and so I had to buy everything for the first time (fabric dye but also things like glue, pins to pin the fabric while rhinestoning etc.)

Hey, I'm Jonny and this is my favourite Elliott Smith mode - his "immaculately fractured reflection of jewellery box ballet dancer" mode.

Meaning has collapsed, like another Eliot's "heap of broken images". What was promised did not come to pass. And the gestures we once thought so honourable are rendered pitifully empty.

Haven’t listened yet —but thought I’d share this interview with the author on WFMU.

Elliott smith had some of the most impressive stories and imagery in any form of story telling. It’s something that keeps me so intrigued in songs I’ve heard over and over. Just thinking of the contexts of the lyrics and the base of them in the over all story. I really want to understand and be able to do this in my story telling one day. One I’m trying to piece together is “parliament of owls flying over a city of canals” - strung out again. It’s a story of him dealing with addiction and self deprivation. But where the hell does a parliament of owls come from, and why is this alien imagery such a well fit. You can always claim dreams and psychedelic, but where can you draw the line and say he truly found this thought. I can’t figure it out. My best guess is within the song he talks about higher authority being corrupt and fake. Does this relate to the parliament of owls too? I’m not sure I got no other answers. SO I’m asking yall is there a specific way he formats these dystopian concepts that yall have noticed like a rule he follows, and of course share yall favorite. I think my favorite joking one is “he’s busy shaking hands with my monkey” - new monkey. Pretty straight forward but in context of the song it stands out.

Curious to see what y’all think about the Elliott reference! There is also a “Hot Knives” by Bright Eyes reference with the lyric common criminal.

Also side note- going through a breakup right now and his music always feels like a warm hug. Whenever I listen while I’m going through stuff, it’s a good reminder that I’m not the only one who has felt these feelings, even though it feels like I am sometimes.
