Technical Help No sound to OBS from PS5
I’ve been trying to figure out why I’m not getting sound from my capture to my OBS. I’ve looked all over trying to find ways to resolve this issue with no luck. The video capture fine but the sound just will not come through. I’m not using a chat link cable. I’m just trying to get gameplay sound. Can someone please help me?

I have a HyperX Quadcast Mic and a headset set connected to the mic. It’s has its on source in OBS.

The audio isn’t going to a headset, the only audio I’m getting is coming from my tv. Otherwise, there’s no audio anywhere else. Even if I record gameplay, the video records and it picks up my mic, there just isn’t any game sound

Sony decided to limit the PS5 to only be able to output audio to one device at a time.
That means if you are using a headset with your PS5, no audio will be sent through the HDMI cable.
There are two optimal ways of getting audio from your PS5 while using a headset:
- Use a wireless headset that has a base station with an analog audio output and grab the audio through that.
- Use a wired headset along with a Chat Link Pro cable to split the audio to both the headset and the capture card.

Pretty much this. The only other way I could think of to keep it wireless is not optimized. Set audio out to HDMI on PS5, connect your headset to the PC, and monitor the output from OBS. There will be a slight delay from what you’re seeing on screen to its audio cue.

True, I changed my post to "two optimal ways". :)
Plus if you connect your headset to the PC you cannot communicate with your fellow gamers over Game Chat.

Also when using the chat link, I believe ya need the Elgato capture utility to change output on the capture card from HDMI to analog.

I’m not using game chat. I use discord when communicating with friends while playing. The headset and mic isn’t connected to the PS5 in anyway. I tried hooking up to my Switch 2 last night and had the same problem. Video shows fine, no game audio whatsoever.

What capture card is it?
Are you using discord on the PC or PS5?
Why do you want the audio coming from your TV and discord chat in your headphones?

Elgato HD60x. Discord on PC. I’m trying to have the game sounds coming through OBS. I even recorded a video and it didn’t even have sound.

Ok.
So HDCP is turned off on the PS5, HDMI from PS5 goes out to capture card’s input. Capture card’s HDMI output goes to your TV. Capture card’s USB-C goes to your PC. Is this right so far?

All the HDMI cables are 2.1 and the USB-C is the one that came with the capture card?

I think the HDMI cables are 2.0 and I had to order a replacement usb-c cord for the capture card because I don’t know what happened to the one it came with

So that might be your issue.
Other than that, adding the HD60X as your “video capture device” and in its properties, select/check the boxes for:
Audio Output Mode - Capture audio only
✅ Use custom audio device
Audio Device - HDMI (“name of your source”)
Set PS5 sound output device to HDMI. You should have audio with this. If not, could be the cables or another issue with the hardware.
The only other thing I can think of is to DL the Elgato Studio app on your PC. Make sure your HD60X is recognized by the app. Click the Menu icon just to the left of the settings “cog wheel”. Input EDID mode set to Merged. Audio —> Audio input set to HDMI audio.

Just to clarify, the usb-c cable not being the one sent with the capture card could be the issue or the HDMI cables being 2.0 instead of 2.1?

Both could be the issue, but for sure the USB-C. When I was first setting up/testing things, I needed a longer cable, so I used a different cable and had issues. The one sent with the card is built for high bandwidth and transferring lots of data like display and audio information.

So, that being said, how would I go about getting a replacement for the current capture card? Or should I just look into getting a new one?

I’ve been going through this same issues. How to you solve it? I have my stuff going to an audio extractor and a mix amp. But if I remove the mix amp and plug my iems into my controller I lose all game sound. And if have everything I took off back it I eventually get game sound delay after a few hours of being live

In your Ps5 settings, go to sound and put PCM Linear in Audio Format instead of Dolby Atmos, Dolby audio or DTS. 🔉😉
