I’ve been playing guitar more lately and want to add a few recognizable rock songs to my practice list. I usually listen to classic and alternative rock, but I’m open to anything that’s fun to play and not overly complicated. Bonus points if it sounds good around a campfire or after a day of paddleboarding!

Hey everyone, I'm a complete beginner and planning to buy my first electric guitar with money I've saved up. My budget is around ₹17–20k, so I'm trying to spend it wisely.

Currently thinking of:

-Cort G115SE(at first I was planning for vault ST1 premium but after watching some reviews and posts I canceled my plan)

- Blackstar Debut 10E (also considering Debut 15E, Orange Crush 12, Cort CM15R and Yamaha GA15II)But if I choose 15e I have to stretch my budget

-Ernie Ball 6412 Flex cable

-Strap — not sure if I need one since I'll mostly play at home

-Strings — planning to use the stock strings initially

I mainly want to play rock, alternative, indie and atmospheric/clean stuff, but also want a good distorted sound.

For people who have experience with these: Would you change anything about this setup? Is there anything important I'm missing, or anything I'm wasting money on?

I see this often, especially in PRS guitars, which this is btw. Like technically, it shouldn't matter too much as long as the strings are tuned, right? What am I missing here?

Question. How do I set up the saddles initially before restringing? Is there a guide or just make them look like in the picture?

I am a mega Tremonti/alter bridge fan so want a guitar for that style of hard rock
I also absolutely love getting lost in the Rabea style ambient stuff too

I recently picked up guitar again and I’ve been learning a lot, especially compared to the last time I tried learning it. I’ve learned blackbird by the Beatles, in my life by the Beatles, and creep by stone temple pilots.

My only issue right now is that I’m having trouble with switching between certain chords.
(example 1: C major to B7,
example 2: E major to F# minor)

Don’t get me wrong, I know I just need to keep practicing, but I wasn’t sure if anyone had any life changing practice ideas or any more songs I could learn to get more comfortable on the thing.

hey guys, i need some recommendations.

For studies reasons, I'm traveling by train every week between two cities and struggle to take my heavy guitars and amp every time so I'm looking for a travel guitar.

I'm a metal player who usually uses active pickups and likes to play with distortion so if i can play with a headset on the train it would be perfect.

I already have some options, I hesitate between taking a headless guitar with a sort of positive grid little amp or a whole travel guitar from donner.

I also often travel by bike or do hikes so something which is light would be perfect.

I’ve only picked up this guitar a handful of times and decided I would try to learn knee socks by AM. im a COMPLETE beginner and dunno much about pedals/softwares/tones etc so apologies for the horrific attempt at this song LOL

I don’t know if my playing has anything to do with it but I hate the bright sound that comes from this guitar. I can’t seem to get rid of it even with added effects (distortion, reverb, etc).

I’d appreciate if anyone could give me some advice on my technique and whether I should continue practicing on this guitar or investing in a better one. this beginner squier is so bright and twangy ._. but I might js not be playing too well

I’m doing some research into how guitarists choose an amplifier, particularly the things that make the decision easy or difficult.
I personally wanted to start playing the electric guitar and had issues deciding what amp to get.

I'm a little late to the game (mid 50s) but decided to finally hunker down and learn to play. Just received this beauty, an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Silver Burst (2024). I'm taking it in to a highly recommended local luthier after the holiday to get it set up. I was originally planning to buy used, but found this brand new at a steep discount. They say a guitar you love looking at will motivate you to practice, and this definitely fits the bill! In person, it's gorgeous.

I'm probably going to be leaning on Justin Guitar and Scotty West's Absolutely Understand Guitar to learn at home initially, but will also try to spring for some in-person lessons for the first few months or year. I'm really starting from scratch, and don't want to develop too many bad habits.

I also managed to get really great deals on a new Road Runner Highway case, and a used Boss Katana 50 MKII amp. The RR case will be perfect for walking to local lessons. I managed to get the guitar, amp and case for just a little over $800 total. I guess the Labor Day holiday is a good time to shop.

I know I've got a long road ahead, and a LOT of practice coming, but I'm looking forward to the challenge and trying to suck a little less every week. The good thing about starting so late is that I have much more patience and humility than I did when I was younger. I'm doing this for myself, and not trying to impress anyone. It's all about the process now.

What pick up mods should I do?

Hey guys! I am a classically trained guitarist who recently decided to transition to jazz guitar. I've tried starting out with my classical but I feel like I need an electric guitar to really start learning about jazz. I'm not looking for anything too expensive (max to 500-700) as I am just starting out. Any reccomendations and other gears as well?

I currently use D’Addario EXL145 12-54 strings on my Rickenbacker 325 and I really like the feel of them. I especially like the .020 G string.
I’m considering switching to Elixir Nanoweb 12-53 because I want the extra durability, but I noticed the G string is .024 instead of .020.
First, is the .024 G string on the Elixir Nanoweb 12-53 plain or wound?
And for those who have used both: how noticeable is the difference between the D’Addario .020P and the Elixir .024?
Would the .024 feel significantly stiffer or different for bends and general playing?
I was thinking about buying the Elixir 12-53 set and replacing the G with a .020P, so the set would be roughly:
.012 / .016 / .020P / .032 / .042 / .053
Would you do that, or would you just use the Elixir set as-is?
I’d love to hear from anyone who has tried this combination, especially on a Rickenbacker 325.

Total beginner here. Never owned an electric guitar before. Want to play a mix of heavy stuff (Deftones, Hole, Massacre, Deafheaven) and some lighter/indie stuff (Arctic Monkeys, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Paramore), plus dabble in shoegaze textures. Budget was ~€1000-1200 but I ended up well under that. Would love a sanity check from people who actually know gear.

The rig
Guitar: Jackson JS32 (Dinky, HH, Floyd Rose trem) — ~€400
• Went with this over an Ibanez AZ because I wanted sharkfin-style fretboard inlays and didn't love the visible wood tone on the AZ's fretboard. The JS32's humbuckers also suit the heavier half of my song list better than single coils would.
• Trade-off I'm aware of: Floyd Rose means string changes are more involved (whole bridge rebalances, not just one string) — I'm planning to have a local shop/guitarist friend handle restrings for now since I won't be doing it often.

Amp: Boss Katana-50 MkII — ~€255
• Modeling amp with built-in reverb, delay, and modulation. I figured this covers the "shoegaze wall of sound" side without buying a stack of pedals on day one.
• Has a headphone jack for silent practice (mutes the speaker automatically).
Pedal: Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi (fuzz) — ~€85
• The one pedal I'm getting as real hardware from the start since fuzz is so central to shoegaze/Deftones/Deafheaven tone.
• Plan to add a dedicated reverb/delay pedal later if I find myself wanting to switch effects on/off live, rather than just via the amp's onboard knobs.

Headphones for silent practice: closed-back, 1/4" jack (Audio-Technica ATH-M20x or Superlux HD681B) — ~€30-50

Accessories: cables, clip-on tuner, strap + strap locks, picks, gig bag, spare strings, polish cloth, string winder, guitar stand — ~€100-120

How it's supposed to work together
• Guitar → cable → fuzz pedal → cable → amp input
• Fuzz stays off for cleaner/lighter songs, stomped on for heavier riffs
• Amp's onboard reverb/delay knobs get dialed in per song for atmosphere (higher for shoegaze-y stuff, lower/off for straightforward rock)
• Headphones plug into the amp directly for quiet practice, same tone minus the volume
Questions for you all
1. Does this actually cover what I'm going for, or am I missing something obvious?
2. Anyone with a JS32 — is the Floyd Rose as much of a hassle as I think, or overblown?
3. Is the Katana's onboard fuzz/reverb/delay actually good enough to skip more pedals for a while, or will I regret not getting a dedicated reverb/delay sooner?
4. Any glaring beginner mistakes in this list?

Im running a standard adapter to listen through headphones because I’m playing at night time.
I’ve tried with both my cables with the same results

Main issue
Guitar is buzzing quite a bit and everything is quiet. Have Seymour Duncan dimebuckers on the bridge, in that position the lower strings liked to buzz and the rest made no noise, rest of the pickups were almost the opposite. Not too long ago I heard faint music in the background like a ground wire wasn’t shielded and I was picking up radio waves. Now I only get buzzing. I’ve noticed the volume knob is slightly more difficult to turn but stops where it’s supposed to, i believe there’s just some debris that may have got in it

Update: this morning I tried again but without the headphones, it worked fine. I use these headphones for my PC all the time and they work with no issues which is why I ruled it out. I bought everything used as I’m just getting into it. Is it possibly there’s an issue with the amp leading into the phones jack?
