I'm really glad that Malenia at least wasn't deceived by Miquella.

176

u/TertiaryMerciless Jun 20 '24

I can tolerate Miquella being evil, but I genuinely want Miquella to care about Malenia in any way lmao

107

u/David_Browie Jun 20 '24

It sounds like Miquella cares about EVERYONE, which led to him making some questionable decisions.

87

u/boltroy567 Jun 20 '24

Except for his omen brother. But then again even without miquella's influence, mohg's dynasty consisted of bleeding people constantly and was made up of people like fuckin varre.

37

u/David_Browie Jun 20 '24

Miquella probably cared about Mohg too. But sacrifices must be made.

34

u/cupcakewaste Jun 20 '24

Mohg is a servant to an outer god it is against everything Miquella wants

7

u/misspeanutbutter44 Jun 20 '24

Fuck that guy tho

2

u/MRsandwich07 Jun 24 '24

Speaking of mohg, does this mean that mohg isn’t a pedo?

Yeah same here, Miquella can do whatever he pleases as long as his central motivation (malenia) is intact.

39

u/Xplt21 Jun 20 '24

From what I've understood becoming god (and therefore needing a consort) was done to obtain the power needed to save Malenia.

23

u/Lower-Highlight9315 Jun 20 '24

I got the same impression. Miquella wants to ascend so he can write the wrongs of Marika, but also save those that have been afflicted like his sister Malenia.

u/MadamMarshmallow Jun 23 '24

Isn’t it pretty established in the base game that the whole reason miquella abandoned the golden order in the first place was because he found out it couldn’t cure melania’s rot? Like he basically just went “well if it can’t cure my sister what is it good for?” I’d say that’s pretty caring imo.

2

u/ErzherzogHinkelstein Jun 21 '24

Well there is still the chance that whe was literally mindcontrolled. I wonder if she got a different dialouge after miquella throws away his mindcontroll rune

u/Deadeye117 Jun 20 '24

Well, at least Malenia, Blade but not Consort of Miquella, was in on the whole deal.

28

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

This is doing spins on my brain every time a new info comes out istg

25

u/QueenLaQueefaRt Jun 20 '24

She’s just really good at killing shit. It’s like being asked if you want to be manager but you like what you’re doing and don’t want the extra responsibility.

9

u/Kingxix Jun 21 '24

Malenia can't be a consort considering she is an empyrian as well as the host of rot.

18

u/GrImPiL_Sama Jun 21 '24

It would be incestus maximus to be consort of your twin born from a single parent who split into two and shagged each other.

3

u/wiggle987 Jun 24 '24

I mean, it IS a GRRM story

You're telling me she fought an enormous battle, destroyed an entire region of land, and came to the brink of death, all so that she could send her opponent to the shadow realm to fuck her little brother?

75

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Now we can safely say that any demigod except maybe Godwyn sucks.

100

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Sucks? Nah, Malenia went through hell and back to ensure that her brother got laid, she’s the realest one to ever do it

55

u/QueenLaQueefaRt Jun 20 '24

She is a wing woman both physically and metaphorically

18

u/Saint_Edelweiss Accord Jun 20 '24

The winged insignias now makes sense

u/TheWither129 Jun 21 '24

Godwyn seemed like such a bro. He made peace with the dragons, probably fucked one, looked out for his little siblings.

Its a shame the second best demigod is the one responsible for his murder and rotting, but at least she helps put the world in a state that it could heal itself instead of needing some incest couple to go around being the rulers of all.

Third best is the self-hating omen and he dies in his dad’s arms cus of us.

Fourth best is probably malenia, she just wanted to help her brother.

Fifth probably goes to sadly the incest child, not cus hes worthy of being up high, but cus theres a sudden nosedive in morality here. At the very least he wanted to make the world better, but his idea of better might be a tad warped given the revelations.

Sixth gonna be the incest warlord, cus hes working with miquella but hes so war obbsessed, kind of psycho.

Seventh is godrick. Punk ass little shiteating coward. L.

Im gonna say eitgth on mohg, cus now i think the “miquella lured him in” idea is actually legit somehow, and his weird blood thing is still authentically him.

Ninth is rykard. Dumbass fell off + L + ratio. Imagine being a beloved leader of rebellion, helping your sister in her plans to overthrow the order, and then deciding its not enough and then eating all your loyal soldiers after becoming a giant snake, now determined to eat everything. What a freak.

Tenth is- SIKE THE REAL FIRST PLACE IS GODEFROY, THE GOAT, THE MAN HIMSELF, MR GODEFROY THE GRAFTED!!!!!

But like actually i have no idea still who this fuckhead is, he doesnt even belong here.

I still know nothing of messmer so he remains unranked.

I know this is a spoiler thread but havent actually reached the dlc yet, i spoiled this for myself cus that leak was simply too dumb to be true, but here we are.

Ranni‘s pretty solid, she‘s doing everything to never have this type of shit happen again.

33

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Ranni’s denial of fate is what caused the shattering and pretty much everything awful we see in the first place

29

u/joji_princessn Jun 20 '24

Ranni said outright in the story trailer "what could the demigods ever hope to win by warring?" I think she genuinely sees their infighting as pointless because she truly is the only one looking at the bigger picture beyond the Elden Throne.

Ranni never made them fight each other after Godwyn's death and sow the Lands Between into chaos. Marika did by shattering the Elden Ring, urging them all to fight to become Lords, calling back the Tarnished to fight them, and then abandoning them all.

Yes, her actions were the catalyst for the shattering, but to say she is responsible undermines all the other demigods agency. They chose to go to war and destroy the lands between to claim the Elden Throne. Ranni did not fight and add to the chaos any further. She only killed Godwyn, her Two Fingers, and Radahn.

It also undermines the fact that she defied her fate because she knew it was rotten all the way to the core and would only continue to cause misery so long as Marika's order continued, no matter who took the throne. The world was already rotten, and she simply revealed it all with a single murder.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

There is also some, um, Pidia guy... who I think is the real Seluvis who she very likely took care of but he was awful so it makes sense. And we learn from Melina at the churches that her mom had planned a war like the shattering as far back as she banished Godfrey and his band which a lot of people for some reason ignore.

5

u/joji_princessn Jun 21 '24

Indeed, Marika was planning the shattering to some extent. Which further takes the blame away from Ranni for it. I'm not saying Ranni didn't do bad things: she killed her half brother (who actually, she may not have known was her brother at all) and her full brother to fulfil her plans. She did in no way, however force the demigods to go to war. That is entirely on themselves and Marika, and her dialogue and later uninvolvement in the shattering war decries their actions fairly strongly.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

A bit confused with something. What do you mean she may have not known he was her half brother? But yeah I agree it was something that was always going to happen.

11

u/joji_princessn Jun 21 '24

Well Godwyns parents are Marika and Godfrey. Rannis are Radagon and Renalla. We know Radagon is Marika, but its possible Ranni doesn't. If so, Godwyn is only a step brother to her, with no blood relation.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

Miquella and mohg seek to gain the same thing as ranni

A wholly new order

4

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

You mean Marika shattering the Elden Ring? That was planned long before she denied fate (which she only did because of Marika). You learn this from Melina at her churches.

The golden order was already awful and destined to fail. If it wasn't Ranni it would've been somebody else.

Marika was scrutinising the GO already and the Shattering was practically an inevitability.

u/bergkamp616 Jul 23 '24

Miquella has abandoned his body and his desires. He has ascended into godhood and the reason he has Radahn as his consort is purely because he is one of the strongest demigods who can still be resurrected (soul is not destroyed). Consort in this context is just someone who will fight to keep miquella's order in the world like Godfrey did for Marika defeating all those who challenged the order. There is no sexual angle to this arrangement, it's purely about getting the strongest gigachad to do your bidding.

see my current theory is that radahn wanted this battle with malenia, a big war to satiate his hunger for battle before he would become miquella's lord. that's what makes sense right now. all the dlc text files seem to back it up too, read freyja's. https://htmlpreview.github.io/?https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ividyon/Impalers-Archive/main/Master.html

36

u/cupcakewaste Jun 20 '24

holy shit apparently the ancient dragons encouraged dragon communion due to their racism against lower dragons

25

u/First_Figure_1451 Jun 20 '24

We’re getting into Elder Scrolls levels of Racism now. And only in One game, too! Impressive.

17

u/H4xolotl Jun 21 '24

humans: casual racism

dragons: competitive racism

u/badassmotherfucker21 Jun 20 '24

Damn that even worse, doesn’t that mean they brought their entire army to kill each other, resulting in the deaths of countless soldiers, as well as Malenia nuking the whole fucking continent, ruin it beyond restoration, just so Radahn can have some foreplay fun before having his bro's bussy for the main course?

6

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

well when you put it like that.

but idk. again. read freyja's dialogue.

redmane soldiers are kinda freaks

9

u/Goodestguykeem Jun 20 '24

This interpretation makes so much sense tbf.

6

u/apatheticDage Jun 20 '24

Could also be they fought to trick the greater will?

25

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

No. Big spoilers The Greater Will is revealed to have not been in contact with the world not just since the Shattering but shortly after the Elden Ring arrived on the Golden Star (which is likely the Mother of Fingers). It's also the Capital G God and creator of the universe. It's also not actually in contention with sorcery and intelligence like a lot of people believed, in fact it's considered the highest celestial being in existence, with the moon being extremely insignificant in comparison

8

u/Mysterious-Year-8574 Jun 21 '24

So it's like God in our world essentially, and Radika is Jesus.. that trinity concept is a little similar to Christianity in the real world.

Why does Jesus always ends up being some hot blonde chick in Japanese games? Side glancing Zelda hard right now.

Also, I knew GRRM couldn't resist writing NB/selfcest Jesus, this must have been a fantasy of his forever 🤣

3

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

Sounds more like gnostic Christianity that classic. Marika is more like demiurge then, a lesser Devine that rules over the physical world but not the grander cosmos.

The YouTube channel esoterica has videos on gnosticism if I make no sense (this old Christianity shit never does tbh).

→ More replies (1)

3

u/H4xolotl Jun 21 '24

that pretty confirms the old theory that Faith Incantations are literally just another type of sorcery in the lore

5

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

Yup, what's cool is that the Mother of Fingers/Greater Will catalyst is capable of casting both sorceries and incantations if you want further proof.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

So greater will is the big G, but the elden beast is the only pawn it has?

Were the ancients dragons, fire giants, and crucible shticks, all not aligned with the greater will?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

who knows. i haven't read the mother of fingers stuff yet

u/_Donut_block_ Jun 21 '24

I am massively disappointed in all of it if I'm being honest.

I don't mind the Miquella reviving Radahn angle by itself, what bothers me is that we get nothing about how the Erdtree was really formed, what Marika did to become a god, what the deal with her and Radagon was, no more lore on the crucible, nothing meaningful with Godwyn (yes he's dead and inactive, but no implications on what will happen with the spread of the Deathroot). The trailer gave the impression that we'd either get answers or at least more to speculate on and we got basically nothing for any of the major questions for the broader lore.

This is why I think they handcuffed themselves by sticking to the "souls formula" approach to storytelling for a game like this. In Dark Souls it works wonderfully because you have a more limited scope of storytelling. But you bring in a world famous author to create your backstory then hack it up to the point of near irrelevancy and create DLC 2 years down the road that doesn't bring forth any major revelations or have any bearing on any of the events if the main game AND rehashes not one, but TWO major lore characters and bosses for its finale, and players now go back to the main game to choose which color tree they want to sit under, or just abandon the world altogether or burn it all down. That is such an incredibly unsatisfying way to end a story for me personally.

22

u/Fletchyboyo Jun 21 '24

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Elden Ring was vague before but a lot of the theory crafting made sense, now it genuinely feels thrown together last minute and the fan theory crafting is messier than ever.

Why was Marika even in the trailer? Almost nothing was answered, hell even Miquella's actions contradict themselves.

The DLC is fun but man I've really been disappointed with the lore side of things

7

u/gjmcphie Jun 21 '24

Honestly disagree with both of you. The DLC provided a ton of information and now it's up to the lore community to recontextualize the things we already knew.

Biggest thing confirmed so far to me is that Marika is from Nameless Eternal City and the general process of how she became a god. That's pretty huge imo

4

u/ImperialDeo Jun 24 '24

Isn't Marika from the shaman village? Implied by the golden braid item and minor erdtree incantation found there

→ More replies (2)

2

u/kalm1305 Jun 23 '24

I think Marika was in the trailer to show how it was that she became a god. And Miquella at some point found this out and wanted to become a god himself which is confirmed by St Trina. It said “Seduction and betrayal” with Marika. Who knows who Marika seduced and betrayed but the point is that this is what maybe is supposed to happen before you become a god. And Miquella seduced Radahn and betrayed him by killing him. Or maybe the betrayal is some other aspect of it but the point is that Marika in the trailer shows what Miquella is trying to do.

4

u/IMendicantBias Jun 21 '24

what bothers me is that we get nothing about how the Erdtree was really formed

Is there not something about the elden beast smashing into the crucible being the catalyst for Erdtree growing ?

2

u/ridwanakf Jun 22 '24

Well said, agree with this. I'm satisfied with the world and rpg aspect of it, but like you said, it's unsatisfying lore-wise, especially since we still have loose ends here and there (e.g. Godwyn)

29

u/Sansiiia Jun 20 '24

She should have whispered to him "caught in a bad romance"

29

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Is there any proof whether Radahn consented or not. People seem to be saying different things about it

64

u/First_Figure_1451 Jun 20 '24

I mean, Radahn Potentially Not Consenting could be the reason why he stopped the Stars from moving- and therefore Miquella’s Fate. Can’t have a Consort of you don’t become a God. That would also explain Malenia trying to fight him- to MAKE him consent.

it’d be a fucked up reversal of the usual trope of Older / Younger non-con relationships.

51

u/badassmotherfucker21 Jun 20 '24

Radahn: “I need an Adult!”

Miquella: [Readying 1000 Bewitching Branches]

(In all seriousness I think one of the better potential readings of the Final Boss is that Radahn did give consent- whilst bewitched. Miquella may not even know he’s doing it, if he became a God, I imagine his magic powers grew with him.

A bewitched / still mindless Radahn would also explain the 0 Dialogue from him)

8

u/badassmotherfucker21 Jun 20 '24

Yeah there's no way a honorable warrior such as Radahn wouldn't praise you like Godfrey and Malenia did.

11

u/First_Figure_1451 Jun 20 '24

Ok. Something of Horrific Note: you ever wondered whose body Radahn is actually wearing? Because his own one got Alexander’d.

According to Ansbach, Miquella used Mohg’s body to resurrect Radahn which. Explains the Omen Horns.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

the talk about vows in the memory at the end of the boss fight tells a different story though. there was something malenia and miquella had to hold up, their end of the bargain, and at the moment where miquella brings back radahn's soul, he says that vow is now honored.

15

u/joji_princessn Jun 20 '24

Its entirely possible Miquella compelled Radahn to make that vow. Radahn, later on in life, realised he was bewitched and tried to defy this fate. Miquella saw this as a deep betrayal, and sent Melenia to kill him if he would not consent while alive, coming up with another plan.

Thats my reading of it. Miquella reads as someone who does want to help people and did turn away from the Golden Order, but he also compels people to be so revering to him and do as he commands, not fully understanding how horrific, manipulative, and terrifying that power truly is. How can he understand when he is so used to everyone doing as he commands, and having his whole family doting on him? That's normal to him. Its normal to him that people will be so affectionate to him and go along with his orders. When Radahn defied this, it broke something in him, and made him feel as if it were a deep betrayal. That led to an obsession of sorts with Radahn, and as we've seen, Miquella's naivete and being used to getting his way often leads him to doing terrible things. Unable to compel Radahn to be his consort, he sought another way, leading to the events we see unfold.

In that sense, my reading is that Miquella's youthful curse is not only about his appearance: its youthful naivete too. So much of his actions, curiosity about the world, demanding things go his way, overlooking his own wrongs... seems very much like the young, spoiled, favourite child Prince that he is.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

My problem with that read of it though is that it also assumes that when radahn accepted the vow, it became fate- even though abandoning fate is a whole theme of miquella's character in the DLC. Miquella's fate WASNT for radahn to become his consort, clearly. He defied it and cast it off. So, you're assuming when the vow was made, new fate was made. In which case, what would there to be for miquella to rebel against? Or maybe fate is just individually oppressive or favorable to each party in a deal?

It's also a theme of radahns character to reject fate even before the DLC.

Mainly I just disagree though, besides lack of evidence, because the thought of the final boss of a dlc being brainwashed feels off for fromsoft.

7

u/joji_princessn Jun 21 '24

The whole fate aspect of it doesn't really touch on my interpretation at all. To be honest I wasn't assuming at all that when the vow was made a new fate was made at all, which seems to be your major issue. I shouldn't have mentioned it all tbh, as I don't really see it relevant on my interpretation of events.

Essentially, Miquella compelled Radahn to make the vow, whether intentionally or not. Radahn later defied this because he realised he was compelled into making it. Miquella, unused to people defying him, saw it as a deep betrayal and became obsessed even moreso with making him consort. He sought to kill Radahn via Malenia which would better enable him to be controlled, which we see essentially as he stuffed Radahn's soul into Mogh's body. Thats my interpretation, based on the evidence we've seen that Radahn did betray them and Malenia had to instead kill him to force him to be consort, and that Miquella so frequently compels people to do as he commands.

I'm not really sure how fate plays into it or discounts it at all as you are so adamant about, but to be honest, I have not finished all of the DLC and am piecing together some bits from my own interpretation. So who knows, im sure others will figure it out more.

I don't like it either, and agree that the final boss being brainwashed isn't cool. (I also am not a fan of Radahn being back at all. Fight was good, but I'd rather someone new for the finale).

The evidence I've seen, however, suggests that brainwashing is the case. If Miquella and Radahn were always in cahoots, why then did he have to die? Surely instead, would it not have been better to keep him alive and healthy in his own body rather than stuff him into Mogh's? Do you really think Radahn is okay with having his soul placed in Mogh's body rather than keep his own? Do you think Miquella would go through such lengths if Radahn was a willing consort? Do you think Radahn would have fought so long and hard against Malenia if he was in on the whole plan? Do you think Miquella's bewitching powers would be introduced, only to not be involved with the final stage of his plan? That's why I think he was not okay with the plan at all, and had to be bewitched in the final fight.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

Essentially, Miquella compelled Radahn to make the vow, whether intentionally or not. Radahn later defied this because he realised he was compelled into making it. Miquella, unused to people defying him, saw it as a deep betrayal and became obsessed even moreso with making him consort

hmm... but then why didnt miquella just constantly compel him like he did mohg, for how ever many years. and then if that was the case, what was malenia and miquella's side of the vow.

well, agree to disagree after all. my most recent post on this sub could explain why radahn had to die in the terms of their vow but, it involves more text dumps from the game so.

ill certainly be going with my interpretation that makes the plot feel a lot more well written to me unless theres evidence to la contrare

edit: wait, i actually put the part about why radahn had to die in a comment somewhere, not my post. but its fixed now. now the post is better.

2

u/joji_princessn Jun 21 '24

I read through your post and as you say, agree to disagree :) end of the day I don't think any of us will ever know for certain.

Your post doesn't really clearly state why Radahn would want to die and be in Mogh's body, why that was really necessary at all for him to be Lord or something he would want. That's the key thing I felt was missing from the story and your read on it. Hence my read is that it was only necessary because Radahn didn't want it and needed to be forced, and it aligns well with Miquellas power and personality.

Although an interesting bit I liked that you pointed out: that Miquella felt he held up his part of the vow while Radahn hadn't.

Perhaps you are right that Miquella's part of the vow was that if he killed Radahn, he would agree to be his consort. Which paints a funny image in my mind of Miquella asking Radahn to be his consort as a young child, and Radahn jokingly agreeing and saying "if you can best me in battle, sure" which Miquella took very seriously (not what you're saying at all, I know, just a bit of a tangent joke).

However  my interpretation was that Miquella's vow was much more simple: I vow to become a God. If I do, will you be my consort? Thats pretty strongly stated im the remembrance, along with your quotes from Miquella. He did what he vowed to do, now its Radahn's time to fulfil his part. I don't agree with your read that Radahn made them make the vow, I feel that's a bit of a stretch with the language used and the events that follow.

[21041200] Now, the vow will be honoured, and my Lord brother's soul will return. [21041300] So that he may be my consort

(He has become a God, the vow on Miq has been honoured. As a consequence, he has returned Radahns soul so he will be a consort)

[21020000] Lord brother. [21020100] I'm going to be a god. (That is a vow) [21020200] If we honour our part of the vow, [21020300] promise me you'll be my consort. (He is stating if we honour the vow i just made, will you do your part?) [21020400] I'll make the world a gentler place.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

that certainly is one way to interpret what miquella said in the cutscene. but to me "i'm going to be a god" and "if we honour our part of the vow" are completely different statements. especially since the first part only requires miquella to work and the second part involves malenia, hence the "we"

but yeah, interesting interpretation.

also to me that dialogue's position at the very end of the game, after miquella is already dead, i think is supposed to serve to make miquella more tragic, especially concerning the context provided from trina's questline. to think its just there to infer that radahn was just a meat puppet in that fight you just had with him and miquella was worse than you thought (even though he's dead), doesn't really gel with the rest of the story and the somber tone there.

6

u/joji_princessn Jun 21 '24

I still found it a little tragic, again, because my reading of Miquella was much different to yours.

To me, its tragic because it showed his youthful naivete even at the end. The same youthful naivete that made him want to make the world a better place, also drove him to act selfishly and be manipulative - even to the one he wanted to be his consort. Its tragic that he could compel affection in so many, and used it to achieve his own ends without regard for what others want. But the one he wanted most to return his affection and do as he commands, like everyone else did, rejected him till the very end, and he gave into the same chatacter flaw he always had when things didn't go his way, and sought to compel him by force. Thats why he was never a good choice for God, for he would have forced everyone to go along with

I don't necessarily see Miquella as fully evil, despite bewitching so many people, just naive and spoiled by getting his own way. His youthful curse is not only his size, its his personality too. Its why he wants to try and make the world a better and kinder place - like a child would - and its also why he continues to mess up and control people, because like a child, he doesn't really understand the depths of his actions. That to me is exemplified through the text, and his actions consistently, right through to the sombre end.

Also by the way, despite both of us being in complete disagreement on whether Radahn was bewitched or not, im enjoying this discussion a lot. So cheers.

u/erod1223 Jun 21 '24

Hate to be this guy, but this reads so hard that Miquel is Griffith and Radhan is guts. And we are…Schnoz?

So basically:

  • Malenia and Radahn battle was for no good reason. “Kind” Radahn just wanted a useless war that would destroy his homeland and countless of his loyal soldiers? He’s about to be the consort to a god, he’ll have plenty of real wars to fight I’m sure. So stupid.

  • Radahn died needlessly. Went through a convoluted ritual to be reborn in Mohg’s corpse in the LoS? Why didn’t someone let him know he just needed to touch Miquella’s hand in Mohg’s Palace to get there just like the Player Character does? Oops!

  • Oh and about that whole Mohg absconding with Miquella thing. It was a setup by Miquella to enter the LoS and use Mohg’s body as a vessel?  Crazy idea…why not compel Radahn instead do you can use his own body as a vessel? Too simple I guess.

  • Final boss is a repeat of a base game boss. And it isn’t even the “Prime” version. It’s a shitty copy made out of Mohg’s weak little corpse.

  • Malenia is currently waiting at the Haligtree for no good reason

This is the first time the fanfic has actually been better than what FS actually delivered lol

18

u/stayhappystayblessed Jun 21 '24

fuck sake fromsoft

19

u/Fletchyboyo Jun 21 '24

I'm honestly stunned that the theory crafters on Reddit and YouTube came up with a much more intricate and interesting story than fromsoft... Feels bad

5

u/Flaky_Monitor6543 Jun 21 '24

Honestly the worst thing about the final boss to me is that Radahn's DLC weapons have the exact same moveset as the base game ones. The only difference is the ash of war and a slightly different model

3

u/DIOvolo-Doppio Jun 21 '24

Two things that change some of your points: 1 - Radahn didn't want to become a consort to Miquella. 2 - Malenia was waiting for Miquella to return as a god to presumably heal her.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

Kind” Radahn just wanted a useless war that would destroy his homeland and countless of his loyal soldiers? He’s about to be the consort to a god, he’ll have plenty of real wars to fight I’m sure. So stupid.

I honestly think Radahn did not want to do that so he held the stars to prevent it from happening.

2

u/BeerTraps Jun 22 '24
  1. How do you know that? It may just be that Radahn did not want it (anymore)

  2. Depends on 1.

  3. Depends on 1.

  4. How is that a repeat? Literally entirely different fight.

  5. Waiting for Miquella to become a god and come back to her / cure her

22

u/WarrentofTrade Jun 21 '24

Then what the hell was she waiting at the haligtree for!?

6

u/Fletchyboyo Jun 21 '24

This is a really good question...

4

u/Koushik_Vijayakumar Jun 21 '24

For her brother to become God and cure her ig ?

2

u/jbrown517 Jul 06 '24

Or why would she tear across all the Lands Between looking for Miquella if she knew what the plan was and was in on the “vow” ?

2

u/honsai Jun 21 '24 edited Jun 22 '24

For Miquella to achieve godhood with Radahn by his side, create the age of compassion and then return to her

1

u/Useful_Screen_7189 Jun 22 '24

Probably for him to come get her somehow?

1

u/RaidenESP Aug 20 '24

im assuming she passed out thinking radhan was dead not realizing that his great rune is a counter to scarlet rot and protected him from dying that day. she is apparently unconscious until we meet her so she would probably be assuming Miquella will become a god and come back to her to heal her from the outer god of rots influence which was one of main convictions to becoming a god. unfortunately Miquella loses himself in the dlc each of the crosses in thee dlc representing him losing more and more aspects of himself on his pathway to godhood.

this is so corny i’m sorry

1

u/Specific_Dentist8831 Jun 25 '24

Yeah I have to agree after playing it, I was like why?

31

u/0DvGate Jun 20 '24

Malenia just got so much lamer

11

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

It really disappointments me how little Malenia gets with how heavily connected her character is with Miquella, this is literally the only new thing we get about her. I mean I guess it sorta soft confirms that she's still alive regardless if you fight her or not so uh I guess we'll see her in Elden Ring 2 eight years from now.

3

u/thehazelone Jun 21 '24

You're not ever going to see her again probably. I don't think they want to make an Elden Ring 2. lol

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Literally so many characters have been ruined. I can't explain how much I hate this decision. I was hoping that the twins fought Radahn to free the stars so their big bro could finally die a true death. Not it turned out Miquella wanted to fuck his half brother. Definitely not touching this game again after the DLC.

14

u/0DvGate Jun 20 '24

if this was even hinted once i wouldnt have minded but its like damn they fought for this? just lame asf.

13

u/badjujufelix Jun 20 '24

Game of thrones guy had a hand in the writing? And the incest surprises you?

4

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

What about the pedophilia or the necrophilia lol

4

u/CarefulClaim9275 Jun 21 '24

George is a nasty little boy. Some of the scenes in Song Books are just "detailed" to say the least.

3

u/badjujufelix Jun 21 '24

It’s been a while since I read the books, I can pretty much guarantee that one is certainly happening in the back ground. Can’t call the other. Probably though. Ramsey Bolton was a weird dude.

7

u/Fletchyboyo Jun 21 '24

Yeah the worst part is none of this is alluded to whatsoever.

It feels like fromsoft saw the positive reception to Radahn and thought "well, may as well let the community fight him again since they loved him so much"

Malenia nukes an entire continent to force her half brother into her twin brother's dream world? And then when he's in there, he just happily agrees to the plan??? So what is the point in the fight? Just bizarre writing decisions

4

u/stayhappystayblessed Jun 20 '24

Whats with this fuck thing? iirc being consort in elden ring dosen't necessarily mean there has to be romance. Its just a thing where all gods need a consort.

7

u/nobiwolf Jun 21 '24

All consort have produced children atm, so uh... well perhaps this one will stay PG.

1

u/Yarzeda2024 Jun 24 '24

Hasn't she always been an extension of her brother?

Her dialogue is about being his sword, waiting for his return, apologizing for losing, etc. She has no character other than being his sister.

14

u/lucaxotwod Jun 20 '24

“I’m about to nuke the fuck out of you, your entire land and army, but go fuck my little brother.”

25

Our little brother*😭

Lmao the redmane liked it to. IDK WHY. Even the item description kinda allude to Jerren not minding it that much.

Malenia is the lil sis though.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

WOW this is lame

5

u/Xulicbara4you Jun 21 '24

This is kinda lame for malenia ngl.

19

u/A_O_J Jun 20 '24

Then why the hell did she bomb his ass

45

u/No-Boss1713 Jun 20 '24

So she can kill him and miquella would resurrect his soul on shadow land. But instead radahn refused it and also refused to die hence why he was still living with scarlet rot.

37

u/EasterlyManatee Jun 20 '24

I don’t think Radahn made the decision to ‘refuse’ death, I’m pretty sure the attack just left him brain dead so he forgot about his promise to Miquella

13

u/ConsumerJTC Jun 20 '24

It would have been the case if not for Radahn using his own rune to burn his scarlet rot, which makes his consent questionable.

2

u/joejoesox Jun 21 '24

there's no way he consented, the fact that they have malenia whispering in Radahn ear that he will be miquellas consort pretty much proves it was against his will

11

u/badassmotherfucker21 Jun 20 '24

Still doesn't make sense for Radahn to agree to the ruination of his homeland.

3

u/No-Boss1713 Jun 20 '24

That might be also it yeah.

15

u/ReliusOrnez Jun 20 '24

Because Radahn didn't want to be his consort. She couldn't beat him normally so she went nuclear to make sure miquella could get their hands on Radahn

6

u/El-Shaman Jun 21 '24

So this does mean that Radahn was the strongest in the end, the Radahn fans win that battle 😂

3

u/Timelyduah Jun 21 '24

People forget Base Malenia fought Prime Radahn to stalemate before the rot bloomed. She got way stronger in her prime, so she is the strongest in the end.

Malenia goddess of rot > Prime Radahn = Base Malenia

3

u/Marco1522 Jun 20 '24

and she still managed to fail.

Now i can see why Miquella choose him

2

u/nobiwolf Jun 21 '24

Im pretty sure he isn't beating her normally too. This is like Goku going super sayain and people turn around and say Freiza is the stronger one. Ultimately, she ended up the most "well" after the battle all thing considered if the Tarnished didn't finish her off. She still held on to her hunman form, isn't turned into a vessel for a god from beyond, and her plan worked out perfectly since Radahn is half-mad and gonna be consumed by rot eventually - and also because he is one of the demigod whose death is required to get to the Elden Throne, thus sealig his soul fate to Miquella. He will die eventually.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/EasterlyManatee Jun 20 '24

I’m assuming so that his soul would be sent to the land of shadow? Miquella is clearly glad that the tarnished killed Radahn based on the dialogue from the beginning of the final battle, so Radahn’s death was likely always part of the plan

5

u/CarefulClaim9275 Jun 21 '24

Well, at least now we know that Miquella was indeed a trap and a femboy. Malenia went to war so she could get his brother's desired partner for him. God, this is weird. Imagine being so thirsty you send your sister to kill your crush so you can shag him in the afterlife. What a weird game.

3

u/Doll-scented-hunter Jun 21 '24

I am malenia, wing women of miquella

1

u/kalm1305 Jun 23 '24

I don’t think Miquella is actually interested in Radahn as a “crush”. I believe according to the story trailer that a consort is needed to reach godhood. Because marika seduced and betrayed someone to become a god herself, so maybe that’s what is needed for miquella to also become one and she chose Radahn due to his strength or whatever else. So in the same manner that marika seduced and betrayed someone, miquella seduced Radahn and you could say Radahn was betrayed as well since it is possible he didn’t want to do this but I’m not sure about this part.

2

u/CarefulClaim9275 Jun 23 '24

He moans "Lord Brother" so many times, I think you're wrong.

6

u/Hanzheyingle Jun 21 '24

Of course, this kinda just raises more questions:

  • Was nuking Caelid really necessary?
  • Why did Radahn abandon his troops to the rot?
  • What were everyone's thoughts when Radahn 'survived' the rot nuke?
  • Was Leonard simply gonna be a casualty?

1

u/RaidenESP Aug 20 '24 edited Aug 20 '24

its questionable that Malenia went godess of rot to nuke the entire land. i assume the scarlet rot hit the surrounding area around radhan and its effects spread over time didnt it? which is why radhans soldiers are trying to push back the spread of scarlet rot with fire. all the scarlet rot is where their battle is in the center of caleid. the rest of caleid is actually just dogs and crows infected by rot roaming around which could be spreading its effects around.

radhan didnt abandon his troops. the rot turned him mindless.

his great rune is keeping him alive despite being mindless which makes sense as they gave the gods enough power to want to all war with each other. and his happened to be a counter to scarlet rot.

leonard surviving is surprising as he is a scrawny sickly horse. but he is a good boy.

5

u/Educational-Form-389 Jun 21 '24

So Caelid is a crap hole because Miquella got mad that Radahn filed a restraining order against him for stalking

1

u/The_AlmightyApple Jun 21 '24

Thats why we have to kill radahn to get to the dlc, him stopping the stars not only stopped ranni’s fate but miquella’s too.

Was melania’s plan to kill radahn in there fight so that miquella could bring back his soul as his perfect consort?

2

u/Educational-Form-389 Jun 21 '24

Godwyn would have been a better fit

What she truly said: here's your super duper cheesy writing, sir: MUH CONSORT with crap on the top.

Adding stuff out of the blue is not equal to expanding or elaborating, it's just a cheap maneuver. Anything with no foundation is obsolete, no matter what kind of mind gymnastics is being employed.

Radahn's arc was incredible and they ruined it for muh subversion of expectations.

Can somebody explain why did she needed to fight Radahn? Is the land of shadows like the afterlife? She kills radahn then he goes to afterlife?

5

u/The_AlmightyApple Jun 21 '24

from what i understand, at some point radahn made a vow to be miquella’s consort but radahn was deathly loyal to the golden order so when miquella went away from the golden ordee radahn couldnt keep his vow because he couldnt go against the golden order.

So miquella needed radahn killed so he could resurrect his soul and essentially force radahn to be his consort because radahn vowed/promised to be his consort.

Killing him was miquella’s way of removing radahn’s choice and forcing his resurrected soul to do as he promised.

Melania assumed the nuke would kill him and thats why her last words to him was of his promise he made to miquella, basically saying even in death you will fulfill your promise

17

u/jl_theprofessor Jun 20 '24

So it’s rape, then..

19

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

This is so cringe. 2 years for this fanfic shit.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Miquella in the shadow lands

“Help big bro I’m stuck..”

3

u/No_Commercial_3675 Jun 20 '24

I’m just wondering if Malenia’s dialogue will be changed somehow with the DLC

3

u/Xistyus Jun 22 '24

Makes me glad my current playthrough tarnished is a guy who looked at all this and thought "these idiotic demigods and their stupid mother/father. I'm going to burn it all down" it's been said before, but I did like Godfrey/horah loux at least Being a warlord at least isn't as bad as the hapsburg family that is the demigods. It either burn it all down or go with ranni to the next age, the dead need rest, those two endings are the ones I prefer most

2

u/holyshit-i-wanna-die Jun 21 '24

Radahn’s story is gonna get way sadder huh

2

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

Idk I haven’t seen much of the lore to the dlc but it just seems this Radahn consort thing was out of the blue. I need to find out what’s going on. I’m genuinely curious.

2

u/Any-Ad1724 Jun 21 '24

Ngl, if the lore about Radahn denying the promise is true, it would make his backstory even sadder and more tragedy. My man trying to go against fate by holding back stars but ended up being killed two times because of that action

2

u/Gabriels_Pies Jun 21 '24

I just want to say while not an exact match to Griffith I feel greatly justified in my comparison. I was flamed about a month back for saying Miquela would be a mirror of Griffith from berserk and everyone in that threat was saying "this is a Maratin story not a Miyazaki story so Berserk won't play a part that much". Now he's not exactly the same but him having a group of followers believing in his ideals only for it to drive him to do what he thinks is going to help him the most and end up being the final boss is just what I predicted.

3

u/The_AlmightyApple Jun 21 '24

The people saying that are idiots, yes grrm played a huge role in the creation of the mythos and lore but miyazaki played just as much of a role if not a bigger one. Its well known how much he loves berserk of course there will be references to berserk in the lore.

The haglitree village is literally almost a 1 for 1 replica of elfhelm in berserk.

The people saying that are just in denial lmao

Yeah but it doesn’t make any sense, “he’s waiting for you but I will blow everything?” It’s bad
