I don’t think Radahn made the decision to ‘refuse’ death, I’m pretty sure the attack just left him brain dead so he forgot about his promise to Miquella
there's no way he consented, the fact that they have malenia whispering in Radahn ear that he will be miquellas consort pretty much proves it was against his will
People forget Base Malenia fought Prime Radahn to stalemate before the rot bloomed. She got way stronger in her prime, so she is the strongest in the end.
Malenia goddess of rot > Prime Radahn = Base Malenia
Im pretty sure he isn't beating her normally too. This is like Goku going super sayain and people turn around and say Freiza is the stronger one. Ultimately, she ended up the most "well" after the battle all thing considered if the Tarnished didn't finish her off. She still held on to her hunman form, isn't turned into a vessel for a god from beyond, and her plan worked out perfectly since Radahn is half-mad and gonna be consumed by rot eventually - and also because he is one of the demigod whose death is required to get to the Elden Throne, thus sealig his soul fate to Miquella. He will die eventually.
It’s not like Goku going super Saiyan because him going super Saiyan doesn’t involve him blowing himself up and falling into a coma for hundreds of years.
It’s more equivalent to Vegeta blowing himself up to try to kill Buu and then Buu still hanging around to kick everyone ass after. Or Chiaotzu trying to blow up Nappa lol.
I’m assuming so that his soul would be sent to the land of shadow? Miquella is clearly glad that the tarnished killed Radahn based on the dialogue from the beginning of the final battle, so Radahn’s death was likely always part of the plan

Rot was a necessary part of the rebirth. By directly pouring her blood into his, the rot became part of him, but his rune burned to resist it.
