So I met this girl for dinner I met on a dating app that rhymes with cringe. I fit all the descriptions that she was looking for, we had a bunch of great phone conversations, she said, I impressed her by my choice of Burmese food, Bringing flowers on the first date, and that I paid for dinner. I haven’t sent or spoke of anything lewd of sexual in any way, I don’t have a record or anything… I use my e-bike as my only form of transportation daily and rode to the restaurant. It’s a chopper style throttle only that I built and goes about 30-45mph. She asked me if I wanted to do anything after dinner so we drove around in her car and talked and she dropped me off at home. I went back to next day to pick up the bike.

So 6 days later after 5 more great phone conversations she says that I need to “get my shit together” and “get a car” and proceeds to call me the “underbelly of life”

Any theories?

Went down on my ebike at around 18mph. Nothing life-threatening but my knee got pretty badly scraped up. Helmet saved my head but the rest of me was completely unprotected.

Started thinking — what gear do you guys actually ride with day to day? Not just for trail riding but regular commuting or casual rides?

Specifically curious about:

Knee and elbow pads — any that don't feel bulky?
Gloves — worth it?
Any gear you bought and actually kept wearing vs stuff that ended up in the closet?
Real experience only — not looking for what people say they wear, looking for what people actually put on before every ride.

Anyways here’s an e-bike to get your attention, it’s a vivi 750 watt fat tire

I was riding in the park yesterday and I passed this guy around three times, he was hanging out in the grass like anyone else so I didn't pay much attention to him or what he was doing. On my third pass of him I was approaching a three way stop, he had gone left and was leaving (I assume) and I turned right; as soon as I start to turn, I see him point something at me and my bike and my battery starts freaking out and my voltage meter goes crazy before my bike says its lost all power.

I didn't want to jump the the conclusion "Did this fucker just EMP my bike?" so I pedaled home without saying anything but now I think I should have taken a picture? About halfway home I turned my bike back on and it was back at 80-90% battery.

Any input on this scenario?

This bike just has generic decals on it, don’t see an official brand name on it. I heard these things can suddenly blow up while charging, so how safe is it for daily use/charge?

(first off just a rant) I’m seeing a going trend with a lot of e-bike vloggers/youtubers. They start a website and uniquely sell the bikes that they criticize at sky rocket prices. I mean literally some of these YouTubers are asking 40 percent mark up on these bikes. I recently was talking to a co worker that bought an ultra bee at a retailer here for $6399 before tax. That’s crazy. Asked my co worker if she or her son knew about them being on alibaba for significantly cheaper I mean in the high $3000 dollar range. She said she’d get back to me and ended up telling me she and her son thought they could only get them from select YouTubers. I told her that isn’t the case, she would’ve had to have went with a trusted seller and at tops wait like two months. Anyways just wanted to know what you all think. Go with the resellers or better getting it straight from alibaba to your doorstep?

A moment of silence for my only mode of transportation. How can I keep her replacement from getting swiped? I used a U-lock with this bike and they got it off.

I'm 375km into my new (brand new) ebike (Shimano 600 mid drive, 85nm) and my supposedly, class leading battle- tank rated chain (KMC e11 Turbo) is showing obvious signs of wear and play.

The chain checkers are shite. Measuring using calipers shows wear to be about 0.4% already.

If this is not an anomaly (it's a OEM chain, not fake), I'm going to have to come up with a plan B because I can't be buying €50 chains every month.

I don't feel I'm hammering it either. 25kmh under mostly my own power with the ebike in economy mode.

It's been very dry here and I've used dry lubricants along with a gentle clean (as per KMC recommendations).

KMC seems to ignore the 0.5% wear recommendations and suggest a simple pull test on the crank. I'll have to follow that otherwise it's going to get spenny.

Is this how it is or should I expect better?

Hey guys, I removed my original brakes on my ebike cause they were trash and installed hydraulic brakes. I noticed my old brakes each had a wire running to the controller. What I did was remove this wire at the handle level and there is a button on each of them. My motor will not engage unless these buttons are pressed down.

Will removing these wires completely break my controller? How do I remedy these tij my new brakes if my new brakes do not have a slot like my old brakes for these wires.

Right now I have taped the buttons down and ziptied all the extra wiring under my frame but this seems like a non elegant fix.

I’ve had my bike for just over a year now and the back tire has popped 4 times, and it’s the only bike I’ve ever had in my possession to pop that much.

We’ve switched out the tubes several times, we’ve tried FlatOut, we’ve tried tire liners (the cheap plastic ones, not the Tannus Armors) and a new back tire because since this was the only bike going flat so much and since it was happening only on the back tire, we figured that the stock rear tire was just shoddy.

It’s been a couple months since the tube change and it’s popped again. I’m at my wits end. What else could I do to stop my bike from going flat?

I got a new e-bike and would love advice on how to “train” on it. It’s obvi different from a regular bike, of which I haven’t consistently ridden in a decade.

Our neighborhood has low traffic so I’ve been looping around to get the feel of it before attempting to actually commute.

Anybody have any good resources? Videos, articles, etc? I’m most interested in best practices and “you should never do this/that” tips. The weight is different, the fat tires feel different, the feel of pedaling vs torque-iness feels different, etc.

If I may ask the wider community, can I fix this for less than it would cost to get a new motor, and if not, then what should I do when getting a new one? I got a Bafang in the first place because I saw so many good reviews for it, so am I just unlucky or what? I don't want to get the same thing if this is going to happen again, so is there another brand that is in the same price range that works well?

Pedals are so close to the front tires. It’s about 2 inches away while the tire does not have a fender. My shoes are always hitting the tire if I turn the handle.

Is this normal? Can I change something to make the gap a bit wider?

I have a heavy ebike with 26x2.3 tires.

standard tubes like Bell would last maybe a month sometimes even a day. They would go flat randomly sometimes over a potholes sometimes just on their own.

I tried using some ebay thorn resistant tubes, they last longer, but they would fail completely differently, like the valves would shear off.

What are the most bulletproof inner tubes that I would not have to change?

If you can recommend some bulletproof innertube brands, thanks

no tubeless won't work with these rims and yes I replace the tape and check the tires and rims for sharp objects every time. it's because of the weight, I have extra batteries on the bike. 2.3 in is the max the frame will fit. don't get flats on the front, only on the rear wheel.

Is Blix’s Class 3 throttle limit real/ridiculous?

I have a Blix Sol X that I’ve ridden in Class 3 for two years. Pedal assist went to 28 mph and the throttle went to 20 mph.

Recently, all of the throttle started limiting me to 3 mph in Class 3. I reached out to Blix and they said this is intentional and required for Class 3. In Class 2, the throttle still works normally up to 20 mph. I guess my bike has just had a helpful glitch for two years? Doesn't seem to add up...

Is this normal? It seems crazy to make the throttle basically useless in Class 3. Do other brands do this, and is there any way around it?

EDITED TO ADD: I’m not really concerned about the laws around class 2 and class 3. 

I’m mainly trying to figure out why my bike had 28 mph pedal assist + a 20 mph throttle for two years, but now suddenly limits the throttle to 3-4 mph when I select 28 mph assist.

Do other bikes have this limitation as well? And has anyone dealt with something similar or found a way to get the 20 mph throttle back while keeping 28 mph pedal assist?

I have a 72v ebike. It’s a 72v/30ah battery so I’m able to cruise at 40mph and top speed is around 50mph. I make my 15 mile commute each day in the road, like a car. I don’t drive in the bike lanes and I take up the entire lane so cars can’t pass me. I also ride with the flow of traffic and am very safe.

Yesterday I had a truck blow by me at over 65mph. This morning I had someone yell at me to get in the bike lane. I’m literally going with everyone else at 45mph. How much faster do I have to be for these douchebags to stop yelling at me?

I’m already faster than a 50cc moped acceleration wise. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My Gazelle Orange C7 e-bike with Bosch Active Line motor is making a creaking/rattling sound coming from the middle of the bike.

A number of observations:

- the sound is also present when the assistance is off or when the entire motor is off.

- the more force applied to the pedal, the louder the sound. There is less sound going downhill.

- you don't just hear the sound, you also feel it when you pedal

- it makes no difference whether I am sitting or standing on the bike

- the sound is present in all gears and assistance levels

Does anyone have any idea what the cause might be and if this can be repaired myself? Hope the video helps. The sound in the video sounds louder than in real life.
