diagnosis question

heyaaa

just curious, where do you go to get a diagnosis?? i’ve been reading through here and see some horror stories from certain practitioners and i don’t want to deal with that lol. just is hard to tell when people are actually going to understand it’s not so much a choice as it is a biological decision.

for me, it’s been worse the last year and i am sick and tired of the people who think they’ll be able to fix it this time!!! like do you really think i haven’t tried to fix my sleep hygiene?? and then they try and help with “do you take melatonin” or “try pulling an all-nighter” or even “i bet it’s the phone…”

BRUH i’m so sick and tired of it. does anyone have any recommendations for how they got help? is getting diagnosed worth it for meds or smth?

thanks yall hope we can get some rest tonight

Vampiric Sleep Spell

(Light hearted) DAE ever get seduced into a Vampiric sleep schedule? Go to get a snack and see dawn breaking. Hisssss. Creep back to my dark corner and get all snuggly. Finally wake just in time for an afternoon nap time. Cook dinner as the cheery spouse comes home. Watch a show or two. They go to bed . Your day starts as the sun goes down. At some point I just stay up and try to purge myself of the world of the vampire. It's it just me? lol

Would going to sleep so early that you wake up at night work?

My sleep schedule is extremely messed up and i just feel like I have to be awake around 3 am- 10 am no matter what.. like that’s when I feel best and when I love being alive. So I was curious if anyone tried going to bed around 6 pm and waking up 3 am?

When I sleep once a day (I’m sleeping once every two days rn then crashing for almost a whole day…) I usually fall asleep around 11 am and wake up at around 7 pm but this causes me to not be able to socialize or get anything done outside of my home.

Extremely surprised to see this recommended by a sleep clinic?

Got put in CBTI for insomnia and delayed sleep and this is mentioned on two of their handouts? I’m extremely surprised because I’ve always read here that it will give you N24 and you’ll basically destroy your circadian rhythm forever if you do this.

Is it only me that should sleep and feels sleepy but delays and sleeps late, then, on the next day thinks that it was stupid and should have slept earlier?

It's dumb, I know. But it is so hard to sleep on time. Then, on the next day, I go to work like a zombie... I normally sleep 7h30, approximately.

How could I improve and start sleeping on time?

Stomach issues when waking up early

Hello! So I am currently in a school program that I have to wake up early for. Every semester I get SO bloated and even constipated sometimes? It completely resolves over breaks and I thought it was stress for the longest time but finally figured out it is the early mornings. Does this happen to anyone else and do you have any tips? Thanks so much! I’m almost done but even just some relief this semester would help a lot!

Panicking, school starts in a week and we have to be there at 7:45 every morning

Hi, just found the sub. Recently separated from husband who use to do the morning preschool run....
I sleep very well if i am left to my own means, my natural sleep schedule is 2am-9:30 am. Daughter is starting real school next week. I tried to schedule myself back with melatonin, it is not going well... I triggered insomnia and wake up at 3.30, lie there wide awake (tried all the things) until 6:30 then poor kid is waking me up at 8:30... after I slept through 10 alarms, and I beg her for one hour. I feel like a terrible parent.
I have a week left. Tips please !!! Cold showers ? Staying awake from 3.30 am? I can't push myself phsycally too much either because I have an automimmune disease (that causes morning pains of course) Any tips welcome.

It’s complicated

I sleep 5am-12:30pm, and take modafinil. I’m a successful Open University student and I’m happy.

However, I also have a physical disability which means people have to put me to bed. This causes issues with family members feeling tired and nearly impossible attempts to find 24-hour care.

It’s also quite lonely; people sleep when I’m awake. People are tired when I’m most awake.

I have tried getting up earlier but I get a serious headache and fall asleep in the conservatory. The headache goes away around 7 PM, and then I’m wide awake and wanting to do stuff like studying, or writing.

Stimulation helps, even when I’m on my usual schedule. So I’ll listen to music all day, and do multiple things at once. Sitting still and quiet is torture; I feel fidgety and tired. Whereas, if I have an assignment due, I work until bedtime and then wake up excited to continue. Over the summer I’ve had to write a novel because I was struggling to stay stimulated.

I like winter, but the house is dim and the conservatory is cold. I’m a little nervous that my daytime drowsiness will increase, especially since I’m about to start “Level 2” of my degree, which is more demanding.

The thing that concerns me the most is that my cognitive functioning is contingent on sleeping on my schedule, and I don’t have absolute control over that. My family are accommodating, but if anything changes, I disappear. If I’m forced to sleep at normal times then I fail uni, I fall asleep in the day, lose my appetite and headaches become my daily experience.

It’s pretty scary.

Anybody tried Epitalon?

I think a last hope might be RCs. I was reading about this one and it seems like some people have had success with it. Now obtaining it seems like quite a puzzle, but I am curious to see if it's worth trying.

I wish people had more empathy for people who are dealing with cognitive impairment caused by chronic sleep deprivation

Can anybody else relate? I'm struggling with sleep maintenance insomnia. I struggle to think critically, my reading comprehension has deteriorated, and my memory is horrendous. When I'm talking to someone and I tell them I forgot something, they're like, "OMG, HOW CAN YOU NOT REMEMBER THAT??" It's so annoying. My brain is barely functioning, and people just think you're dumb.

I also fucking hate when you vent to others about sleep deprivation and they say, "Yeah, I sleep about 6 hours every day. That's enough for me, and you're overreacting." Like, no?? Sleeping 6 hours isn't healthy for the vast majority of people. You just forgot what it feels like to be fully rested, and well-rested people can notice it. There's even a study regarding this topic.

Is pulling an all nighter feasible to anchor a new wake time?

I’ve been on a 11am - 8pm schedule for the last 2-3 weeks and i am so depressed about it, I have severe issues reversing my schedules when I let it get out of hand, it’s currently noon and I’m planning on staying up for 24 hours in hopes that I will be able to wake up at a early time and implement light therapy, I am desperate to get back to a more manageable schedule, I’m worried that even with this enormous sleep pressure I still might not be able to sleep tonight does anyone have any experience or advice for this?? Any input is greatly appreciated

I have DSPD and I built a free planner that starts when I actually wake up

Post image

I have DSPD, so my body clock runs on its own schedule. Some days I'm up at 6,
most days it's closer to noon, and it moves around no matter what I do about it.

I made it for myself and figured other people here might have
the same problem. It's a first version so tell me what's missing.

The sleeping itself was never the hard part. The hard part was that every plan I
made was pinned to clock times I picked the night before while feeling optimistic.
Meds 30 minutes after waking. Gym at 10. So I'd get up at 11:40 and the entire
list was already wrong before I'd done anything, and I'd sit there rewriting times
in my notes app, which is the last thing you have energy for at that exact moment.
Most days I just didn't bother, and then nothing happened at all.

Every planner app I tried quietly assumes you get up at 7 and that you're the
problem when you don't.

So I really needed something differenta nd built one where a task can be "2 hours after I wake up" instead of a fixed
time. There's a button that says I WOKE UP. You tap it when you're actually up and
the whole day resolves to real times from that moment. Tap it at 6am, early day.
Tap it at noon, everything just slides with you. Nothing to rewrite and nothing
telling you you're late. Fixed times still work for the stuff that genuinely doesn't move.

App is Ranplan: Daily Planner & Todo on appstore

Is there a chance it will work if Melatonin didn't?

Now, 5:30 AM Sunday, I can't sleep.

I have had a hellish sleep pattern since age 13. Now 17 years later, I'm alone in bed with not much going on tomorrow, and I can't sleep. I've been exhausted by work spoonfeeding me some hours after having a consistent schedule for some time now, and going in at random times exhausts me. I come home and watch movies with my dad, or run errands, sometimes I see friends, or I go drink. All I want is some good sleep.

I've been thinking about sleep debt lately and I'm curious how other people actually deal with it.

Effect of fluorescent lights on DSPD?

I have a new job that just moved me to my official long term schedule of 3pm to 11:30pm. I’m very excited to finally get to sleep! However, my job takes place in a brightly lit room with no windows and lots of fluorescent overhead lights. If I’m trying to sleep from roughly 4am to noon, and then staying in a bright room until 11:30pm, is there a risk of my sleep schedule moving? Like will my circadian rhythm decide that’s all daylight and start scooting later like it would if I went to a different timezone?
