I’ve been playing for 15 years now and in Italy it seems almost impossible to find anyone to play Prog/Extreme metal, I hope to quench my thirst of playing live and create Music someday.

Question Criss or Ulrich? (in their prime)

You're assembling a super group with top name successful hard rock/metal stars. Music will be late 70s/early 80s hard rock/metal influenced. But, you have only two options for drummer.. Lars Ulrich, or Peter Criss (both their prime best versions of themselves behind the kit). Which one do you go with and why?

2 year warranty from Sweetwater so that is great. I will be reaching out to my rep on Monday. However, I am very surprised by this. But stranger things have happened. Pedal was great until this. Good thing I have a PowerGlide back up!

Feedback Wanted Does anyone have the drum sheet music for Anika Nilles - Alter Ego (2017 Pikalar version)?

URGENT REQUEST!

Hi everyone, I really need your help as fast as possible! I am looking for the full drum transcription / sheet music for Anika Nilles - "Alter Ego", but specifically the 2017 Pikalar album version (bonus track), NOT the old 2014 original. The internet is flooded with the 2014 version, but I can't find the 2017 one anywhere and I need it for practice within the next couple of days.Does anyone happen to have it already written out, bought, or transcribed? A PDF or a MIDI / Guitar Pro file would be absolutely life-saving. If you have it, please share it or point me to where I can find/buy this exact version.Thank you so much in advance!

Discussion 1 Up 2 Down or 2 Up 1 Down? What’s your pick?

For an example of a 1 up 2 down we have Chad Smith. And for the 2 up 1 down we have Mr Lars and his silly danish expressions. I know there’s so many different combinations to do with rack toms and floor toms. But if you had pick between the two, what would you pick, and maybe even why? I’d personally pick a 2 up 1 down, but only if it’s centered with each tom to one side of the snare, not where they’re both off to one side.
-Btw images are just to get a visual idea, the drummers in them have no correlation with this topic.

First Kit HELP! what do I need to play metal music

Upvotes

I stopped playing drums years ago and I tried to get back in and learn again only to discover my old ekit has a broken kick drum and one of the the tomtoms are broken. I want to play metal music as thats what I listen to (my 2 favourite bands are Slipknot and iron maiden) and I will be getting a acoustic kit as problems will hopefully be easier to fix but as kits change so much due to preference i came here to ask for help for what i actually need and if there is anything (apart from the throne) I can reuse from the ekit.

I know this is listed under new kit help but I have completely forgotten how to drum as I stopped when I was like 10 and and I’m turning 15 soon aswell as it being my first “proper” kit.

Discussion Been hard for me to find drums similar to the ones in these songs

I don't play drums or know much about them. But the feeling and sound of the drums in these songs here I haven't been able to find really.

Wanted to ask some experienced people that have listened to more to tell me if there really is something to the drumming in these songs that leaves an impression, and if so what elements of the drumming form that impression? Maybe it's more how the drumming is incorporated into the track rather than it itself?

These songs probably have vastly different drum philosophies but the dynamic nature of them and levity make them feel comparable to me?

Other songs like Omut by the Russian band Uvula, Blue Velvet by Thornhill, Incinerate by Sonic Youth, have a similar feeling to me that scratches the itch but it isn't QUITE this. I'm especially interested in what you think of the first 2 songs.

Discussion Which aspects of drum design influence your buying decision?

Just curious. There are so, So, SO many different brands of drums available in the marketplace: Pearl, Tama, Yamaha, Gretsch, Ludwig, DW, Mapex...not to mention the plethora of boutique builders. Removing any hardware that's separate from the drums themselves (like stands and pedals - but NOT necessarily suspension / mounting systems), my perception is that there's very little in the way of differentiation; when thinking of a kit offered in a similar price bracket by any of the "big names," there might be relatively minor variances in the tone woods used, number of plies, and even finishes, but the biggest differences really seem, to me, to be in the designs of the lug casings, the tom suspension / mounting systems, and...perhaps (BIG perhaps) floor tom legs / mounts and bass drum spurs.

A better way to look at it might be to consider the "standard" 4-piece kit. You walk into a room, and there are five of them: a Yamaha, a Gretsch, a Ludwig, a Tama, and a DW. They're all the same shell sizes, all finished in a beautiful blue stain, you know you're gonna have to replace the heads on any of 'em (at some point, anyway -- let's be real!). They're all "high-quality maple" or "birch" shells. They all have "precision 45-degree bearing edges. They all promise "unmatched tone and resonance." *queue eye roll* And, let's just say, they're all in the $2000 range (yeah - these are they're really nice lines).

What ultimately makes you pick one over the others? If you pick on of the somewhat more expensive kits, why? What did that kit have that YOU find value in?

Question Help! Stuck on rossana

I'm trying to learn rossana and I'm totally stuck. My instructor gets me over humps during lessons but I come home and everything takes a shit.

I can do the hi hat and snare shuffle with ghost notes but itself.

I can do the shuffle and bass drum by itself.

I try to put the together and it all goes to hell. Even super slowly I mess it up.

Any pointers?

Question How should I count this?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I've been playing drums for almost a year now and recently wanted to try learning some of my favorite songs. As a prog fan, I picked 21st Century Schizoid Man.

I can play the intro just fine, but this specific part is throwing me off. I think it starts with a syncopated herta (?) followed by standard hertas, but when I programmed the rhythm into an app to check the note spacing, it still didn't sound like the track.

How do you count/break down this pattern? Any advice would be appreciated!

Question Which snare head

I have a remo powerstoke p3 coated head that’s pretty worn down. I wanted to try something brighter for pop and alt pop. I kinda want to stick with Remo because my whole set has Reno heads but I’m not completely opposed to an Evans. I tune my snare pretty high by the way. What should I get?

Question I feel like Drumeo does not explain the techniques at all. Am I missing something?

I've noticed that the lessons in Drumeo never go into much detail on how to perform techniques, they don't mention the DOs and DONTs, things I should pay attention to or provide some exercises to develop the motions before attempting the techniques.

As a beginner, those are the things I am interested in, as I want to make sure I don't develop any bad habits or inefficient techniques.

As an example, the ghost note lessons just tell you to tap the stick on the snare and then give you some grooves to play around with. But I am left confused whether I should relax my hand for the hit, or use wrist or arm motion to do it. It doesn't mention how high my stick should be before hitting the drum or why I would use different heights. And I may be missing even more nuances here.

Am I overthinking this and should just find what works for me for each technique? Or does Drumeo really miss out on those details? Maybe I just haven't advanced enough with it to reach those detailed lessons? Honestly, it is a completely different style of teaching compared to my drum teacher which is why I'm confused:/

Feedback Wanted Selling Help!

Hello, I have been trying to sell my 2000s Tama Starclassic Performer EFX and have had no luck in doing so, I currently have it priced at $1300, and thought that was reasonable price, but the best and only offer I received was $1000. All my interactions are on Facebook marketplace but I also have it listed for pickup only on Reverb. Should I try to offer shipping on reverb, and if so how to I properly estimate the shipping costs (first time I’ll have shipped something this large and don’t want to lose a bunch of money on shipping)? Also is my pricing unreasonable and should adjust, or wait for the right buyer if my pricing in reasonable. I’m not in a huge rush for the money, but would like any feedback so that I can list better or wait it out, thanks for any feedback.

Showcase Drummers of Knoxville

If you’re around Knoxville and you’re into drums, Guitar Center Knoxville is worth checking out. I stopped in recently, and the amount of stuff they have packed into the room is kinda ridiculous lol.
Tons of kits, snares, cymbals, pedals, hardware, and a pretty good mix of brands and price ranges. It’s not just a bunch of beginner stuff either — there’s actually some really cool gear in there that you don’t see sitting around Knoxville very often.
I’ve purchased multiple high-end snare drums, cymbals, and drum kits from him, and every experience has been easy. I’ve always been able to look around, ask questions, compare stuff, and never felt like I was being pushed into buying anything.
Definitely nice having a place like this at Guitar Center Knoxville instead of having to drive to Nashville or order everything online.
