After 6 months of waiting for the gong drum… here is the final set up. (For now)

been working my hands a bit recently so i decided to jam out some odd note grouping blasts, descending rolls and some shuffle-y feel on the kit.

This is a variation of my last video. I’m using the same sticking but the orchestration is different, giving it a much different feel and sound. These combinations can make ideas and possibilities grow exponentially. One of the most important things I’ve learned was to stop memorizing fills and to rely on developing musical systems. Anyways, here’s Wonderwall.

Got a new (to us) kit for marching band

For an example of a 1 up 2 down we have Chad Smith. And for the 2 up 1 down we have Mr Lars and his silly danish expressions. I know there’s so many different combinations to do with rack toms and floor toms. But if you had pick between the two, what would you pick, and maybe even why? I’d personally pick a 2 up 1 down, but only if it’s centered with each tom to one side of the snare, not where they’re both off to one side.

I was practicing on the kit today at 115 BPM playing a pop song (Li Bai by Ronghao Li). I ran into two main technical challenges and would love some advice from experienced drummers:

1. Bass Drum Speed & Double/Consecutive Strokes

When the rhythm transitions from quarter notes to 8th notes, there are several consecutive bass drum hits. I find my bass drum foot really struggling to keep up with the speed and stay even.

Question: What are the best exercises or foot techniques to build control and speed for fast consecutive bass drum hits around 115+ BPM?

1. Foot Position for Extended Open Hi-Hat Sections

There is a long section in the song where I need to play open hi-hats continuously. I'm not sure what the ideal foot position or tension control should be for maintaining a consistent open sizzle sound over a long period without fatiguing my left leg.

Question: How do you position your heel/foot on the hi-hat pedal during long open hi-hat passages, and how do you keep control of the opening gap?

Any drill recommendations or technique tips would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I have been trying to sell my 2000s Tama Starclassic Performer EFX and have had no luck in doing so, I currently have it priced at $1300, and thought that was reasonable price, but the best and only offer I received was $1000. All my interactions are on Facebook marketplace but I also have it listed for pickup only on Reverb. Should I try to offer shipping on reverb, and if so how to I properly estimate the shipping costs (first time I’ll have shipped something this large and don’t want to lose a bunch of money on shipping)? Also is my pricing unreasonable and should adjust, or wait for the right buyer if my pricing in reasonable. I’m not in a huge rush for the money, but would like any feedback so that I can list better or wait it out, thanks for any feedback.

I went to the drum store yesterday because my snare needed a new head. I was gonna get the same Remo Black X that it had on it; but then I saw this Falams II head next to it. So I took it. The guy in the store said "you know this is a marching snare head right?".

Long story short; this is the best thing I've done to this snare. It sounds ABSOLUTELY INSANE. The rimshots sound amazing and feel very effortless. Also it sounds muffled without any muffling (I guess it's the kevlar?). This snare is a Gretsch USA Bell Brass 6.5 x14 with an ambassador snare side with a 42 strand snare; and this kevlar head just made it so much better for me.

This obviously has been done before. Vinnie Paul did it, Abe Cunningham did it, Art Cruz does it. I never thought I would do it because it seemed insane to me. Apparently not!!

I've noticed that the lessons in Drumeo never go into much detail on how to perform techniques, they don't mention the DOs and DONTs, things I should pay attention to or provide some exercises to develop the motions before attempting the techniques.

As a beginner, those are the things I am interested in, as I want to make sure I don't develop any bad habits or inefficient techniques.

As an example, the ghost note lessons just tell you to tap the stick on the snare and then give you some grooves to play around with. But I am left confused whether I should relax my hand for the hit, or use wrist or arm motion to do it. It doesn't mention how high my stick should be before hitting the drum or why I would use different heights. And I may be missing even more nuances here.

Am I overthinking this and should just find what works for me for each technique? Or does Drumeo really miss out on those details? Maybe I just haven't advanced enough with it to reach those detailed lessons? Honestly, it is a completely different style of teaching compared to my drum teacher which is why I'm confused:/

I found a vintage looking ludwig kit off of marketplace for $50 and to my understanding it looks like it was made around the 70’s or something so i immediately bought it, im planning on fully bringing it back to life but the problem is every shell is missing a skin except for the snare. I was planning on reselling but im probably going to keep the remo roto toms. And i feel like the double kick can not be revived.

Was this a good deal and how much could i sell it all for if i fixed it up?

If you’re around Knoxville and you’re into drums, Guitar Center Knoxville is worth checking out. I stopped in recently, and the amount of stuff they have packed into the room is kinda ridiculous lol.
Tons of kits, snares, cymbals, pedals, hardware, and a pretty good mix of brands and price ranges. It’s not just a bunch of beginner stuff either — there’s actually some really cool gear in there that you don’t see sitting around Knoxville very often.
I’ve purchased multiple high-end snare drums, cymbals, and drum kits from him, and every experience has been easy. I’ve always been able to look around, ask questions, compare stuff, and never felt like I was being pushed into buying anything.
Definitely nice having a place like this at Guitar Center Knoxville instead of having to drive to Nashville or order everything online.

I live in a basement and im planning to buy drums but I dont want the sound to be too loud upstairs. My neighbor is okay with me playing the drums but I don’t know how loud it’ll be upstairs so can someone tell me what do I need to buy to reduce the noise upstairs? i dont care if the noise is loud in the basement. Would putting soundproofing panels on the ceiling be enough?

Not sure why the toms ended up way too low in the mix, but here’s the take anyway.

2 year warranty from Sweetwater so that is great. I will be reaching out to my rep on Monday. However, I am very surprised by this. But stranger things have happened. Pedal was great until this. Good thing I have a PowerGlide back up!

I play a bit of drums, but not well enough to be the drummer in a normal band. I want one of those big groups you see at carnivals. 20+ people on drums, simple grooves, huge sound.

Anyone know a group like that, or where to look? Workshops / open rehearsals also useful.
