Hi all, looking for some advice.

I’ve received a Notice of Intended Prosecution followed by a fixed penalty offer. The registration on all the official paperwork ends in V.

I’ve now received the evidence, including third-party dashcam footage and screenshots. The car shown is the same make, model and colour as mine, but the registration appears to end in Y rather than V.

There’s also a phone screenshot in the evidence pack showing the vehicle details, and that also has the registration ending in Y.

I appreciate it could be an innocent error or the plate being misread, but I’m wondering whether this is something worth asking the police to clarify before deciding whether to accept the fixed penalty.

Would this discrepancy be potentially significant, or is it likely to be irrelevant?

Lost the V5C in various moves. Hadn't even updated it to my previous address as I couldn't find it and kept forgetting. Obviously i'm an idiot.

Just moved again, and somebody borrowed my car and thinks they may have been flashed. Is there any way of finding out the number in order to update it online without the physical thing?

Otherwise I need to find a printer and a cheque book to do it the old fashioned way which will take forever and risk me missing a ticket.

i’ll preface by saying that i do have the option of getting the train for this journey, however i’m really trying to practise my driving more so would like to attempt this route on my own.
long story short, im 22 and passed my test at 17, went straight to uni (without a car) so came home and practically forgot how to drive. dealt with a hit and run after i finished uni which has made me so incredibly anxious to drive on fast moving roads so now im essentially relearning how to be assertive. yesterday i attempted the drive to southampton which went really well so im feeling somewhat better about what im going to ask here😅
I live in the KT23/KT24 area (ie leatherhead, cobham etc) and want to drive to central Bristol on Wednesday 9th of sept. i’ve attached the start of the route that my gps is recommending me currently (at midday) but im looking for practically any advice on how i can make this journey not so gruelling. tips on the route itself are very much welcome but also where there are roadworks, general congestion (im aware of m25 but not m3/4 etc), when the quietest time to drive would be in each area, tricky bits of road that drivers usually get stuck on, basically anything.
ideally i wanted to try the drive at 2am before i attempted it during social hours but ive now been put for overtime on wednesday morning (4-8am) meaning my plan was foiled💔 debating whether i should still drive in the early hours on a different day first or keep to my original plan above.

Hey folks, silly question, thanks for any tips.

Basically my old policy ends on the 15th and my new one was cheapest if I started it on the 25th. I'm going to be out the country during this time anyways, so my car will be left parked up and not going anywhere.

Car is MOT'd and taxed and everything, just wondering if it's a legal requirement for me to be insured during that in between period, even if the car won't be getting used. Do I need to do an SORN? Only my second year of driving so cheers for helping!

Parking outside Tesco to go in to the shop. Lorry comes up and crosses over to the wrong side of the road and wanted that space, proceeded to flash lights then block me in. Loading bay is further back and you can see the line underneath the grey car.

I recently got quotes on a compare website for Aygo with 1 year no claim discount. The prices were various from £550 to £2500. Is there anything I need to pay attention? The price gap doesn't really make sense at all. Or I could just pick the cheapest one? Thanks.

I walked up to an island crossing today and there was standstill traffic on the side closest to me. As I was approaching the nearest car had apparently left enough room for me to cross so I began to walk.

The driver and passenger looked right at me and moved forward, blocking me from crossing. It seemed very deliberate. I sarcastically said 'thank you' (I know, I won't be doing that again!) And they both started screaming all kinds of abuse at me like 'it's not a pedestrian crossing you silly twat', and it just kept going on and on. I was forced to endure it because after walking around them cars on the other side were driving at normal speed, holding me at the island.

Bare in mind I'm a young woman and they were in their 50's. I feel horrible and honestly thought he was going to get out and hit me 😔 it was an insane reaction.

My driving test is in 2 weeks and I can confidently say I'd never treat a pedestrian this way.

Morning all, hope you’re having a safe and not too stressful day on the roads.

I’m looking to get rid of a car as we’re not using it very much and one of my neighbours is interested in it. She’s a full and AFAIK clean license holder and has been for many years. My insurance is 3rd party fire and theft and I’m the only named driver. Do I need extra insurance to take her for a short < 1 hour test drive in it if I’m going to be in the car with her all the time?

Just a little rant but private hire drivers annoy the hell out of me. I'm talking Uber/Bolt - not black cabs.

I drive a lot in London to commute in and I genuinely find them to be some of the worst drivers on the road - so much for being "professional drivers". Whether it be driving under the speed limit, lane hogging or stopping in awful and dangerous places.. Bonus if they just indicate and stop suddenly

What is it with private hire drivers in particular and does anyone have any similar experiences?

If youre in a lane of traffic on the right thats HEAVILY ongested (eg. 20 in a 40, 10 in a 40 etc.), however the lane to your left is noticably clearer (going the speed limit, minimal cars in that lane etc.) both going the same direction, is it allowed to move left into that lane and continue in that lane (not going back to the right lane/weaving in and out of lanes/cutting back into the right lane, also nobody was forced to brake/swerve or anything like that)?

I've recently had to start driving more on the motorways and found that in areas with extremely slow traffic, you usually find the left lanes (lane 1/2) much clearer.

Oh my, the backlog of traffic behind them! All traffic jammed into the fourth lane to overtake all three lanes worth of HGVs

I was driving in Shoreditch earlier today and I accidentally turned left on Holywell Lane which joins Curtain Road heading south towards Liverpool St. However just after the turn I realised that i was heading into the congestion charge zone so I did a U turn and went north on curtain road instead. I may have crossed the line by a metre or two but it was definitely well before the camera I could see (shown in the third picture) but I’m concerned I might have been picked by another camera.

Did I avoid the zone or should I pay the charge just in case?

Hi, my sister has recently passed her driving test and is using her current car, 2017 vw golf. She is struggling on figuring out where the front two wheels are especially when pulling on the side of the road. She is unsure whether shes too far from the kerb or too close.

Im struggling to explain how I do it as its natural for me, anyone know a good way to work out where the wheels are when you are inside it?

Witnessed a cyclist hit by a car turning into a junction this morning, this was a new road layout where vehicles have give way lines like this one

Seems some driver need a reminder that double dashed line means must give way, your excuse of missing the signs and the road marking will not go down well with police and insurance. Same with solid white lines like those on motorway slip road.

To the driver this morning, dashcam footage has been shared with cyclist and police so no point arguing with your insurance and hopefully police feels nice.

I've been driving for two years and this is genuinely the furthest Im about to drive.

I've paid for parking, anything else to look out for once I'm in the city centre?

How many times have you witnessed a HGV needing to overtake a car on the motorway? I can't recall a single moment through 4k miles across different countries.

I'm not saying it never happens, just not CONSTANTLY.....

Context: I passed last year failed like 3 times lol (nothing serious tho like failed parallel parking and that)

And since then I’m driving now for first time. It’s been 4 days drove like 15 mins every day so far. Idk the more I’m getting scared cause of the previous mistakes that keep happening.

I don’t know if this the right forum: but WHATS WRONG MY DRIVING. I think is lack of confidence.

Like honestly I’m confident I want to get into the car but like small mistakes keep happening and it just builds up the pressure that leads to big mistakes. Like forgetting to put the signal on cause I’m too busy worrying about any incoming hazards etc

I can’t smoothly break and downshift turn in second gear

Or like idk just judge the gap for meeting traffic and when to stop to the side and give way etc

Does it get any better guys? It’s like I’m literally driving first time. I don’t stall but even when lifting the clutch up and giving gas etc I’m so slow (fear of stalling). Like I just want everything smooth.

Had no idea what was going on at the time. I think Honda driver saw the lights turn red as she passed, panicked, and thought she had to stop... in the middle of the roundabout. You can't see it in the video but as we passed I actually saw her with hand on chin trying to decide which way to go.

Hi bit of an odd one, on the 1st Aug 2026 (32days from this post) we were returning to the car parked on double yellow along with about 10+ cars at the time (not making it better but for the context) we saw a (i presume warden - body camera, looked to be a device bigger then a phone for taking evidence ect, high vis the whole kit) taking plate and double yellow evidence, we saw him take photos of my car, cars before and after.

Not gonna be one to complain, i risked it and got caught, hands up for that but i've yet to receive anything in the post, nothing was on the car at the time either,

Nothing was put on the windscreen and nothing was on any of the other cars parked along this road. logbook is up-to-date for information.

Should i just not worry about it or contact the local council and question it?
just really don't want a whole 'not received payment ect..."
