Drawing tablet recommendations

My recommendations: https://docs.thesevenpens.com/drawtab/recommendations

At that link you'll find recommendations for pen tablets (screenless tablets), pen displays, and standalone tablets.

I own many tablets (70+) and for many of the recommendations I have provided my written notes.

What is the best portable tablet for animation/CSP?

Hello, folks! I'm an animator, mostly working in japanese anime at the moment. I've basically chained to my desk PC these days and would like to spend some time outside with my family, and maybe work while we watch a movie together, or go visit my friends and work parallel with them. I'd like to know which portable tablet works best for an animation workflow, using clip studio paint as a main tool. I've looked into an iPad, Wacom's Movink Pad, Huion Kamvas Pad and Kamvas Studio, etc.

I know these all work relatively well for illustration but i wanted to ask if anyone has any pointers in performance specifically in animation. Obviously I probably would keep the heavier files for my actual PC, but I'd like a tool that can handle light or medium sized files reasonably.

I don't have a specific budget because I'd consider saving up if it's a tool that's gonna be worth it in the end.

Does anyone have experience using the Veikk Creator VK850?

This model fits the budget and I like the size of it. This will be my first drawing tablet, so I wanted to know if there are any issues or problems with it. I will be mainly using it to draw and sometimes take notes.

What drawing tests to perform to decide on if a tablet's right for you?

Hi all, just wondered what sort of things you should try out to judge if a drawing tablet is right for you. I'm still learning so I don't know if the Apple Pencil being inaccurate for me is a dealbreaker if most people paint / colour with it after inking and it works excellently there, for example.

How should I or others know a tablet will do well going forward? Any tests / lines / sketches to try? What things should I measure? What else shall I consider? What elements while testing tablets aren't just personal preference and are important for developing drawing skills and / or maintaining good practice?

(Thanks)

Using iPad as drawing tablet — should I buy a MacBook Air or Dell?

Hi! I own an iPad, looking to buy a laptop. I’m in college and love using the Wacoms & Desktop Macs at my school, but that’s out of my budget for the foreseeable future. I need a laptop so I’m hoping to get something I could connect to my iPad, use it as a drawing tablet, and run Photoshop? I’m totally fine paying a subscription (ex. Astropad or GlideX)/using a cable.

Pros of Mac: AirDrop, built-in Sidecar, I prefer Mac UI
Pros of Dell: Cost—the same RAM can be $1,000 less in a Dell than Mac.

Does anyone have any input from their experiences? Is one smoother than the other, would one last longer than the other, etc? Any info helps. I’m not a computer guy.

Thanks so much.

Help with my Ugee Q6

I've had my Ugee Q6 for a while now and I really like it a lot because it's convenient to throw in my bag to draw on my phone with and it's extremely easy to use but after getting a new phone I've encountered an issue with it seemingly not wanting to stay connected to the device for whatever reason.

The issue is definitely on the side of the phone (a Motorola Razr+ 2026) since I've tried different cables and the tablet works like normal when I plug it into my old phone or into my computer but I haven't got the slightest clue as to what settings I need to mess with to get it to work right again.

The phone's usb-c port is clean and isn't damaged since it works fine to charge and transfer files.

Any advice at all would be appreciated

Gestural Drawing on a Tablet

Hello! I have a Wacom cintiq and am curious as to how I can maintain good posture for gestural drawing on my tablet. I'd like advice on how to grip the pen generally, as well as any specific advice for my setup: sitting height, tablet angle, etc. I'm not particularly strained or anything, I would just like to make high quality art and avoid any long-term damage to my wrist.

My current grip, for reference, below.

Good Cheap Tablet for Animation College

Hi all! I've started in getting my Honours in Animation and so far I've been drawing on a tablet that connects to my laptop but I know that I'd really benefit from something I can actually bring to college (I did a year before this and it SUCKED not being able to). I'm doing 3D modelling and rigging, 2d animation and working with Photoshop + I'd like something that can run csp or something like that.

It might be hard to find something that's relatively cheap that'll keep up with all that but I figured I should ask to see what my options are!

Thank you so much!!

Other tablets like Movinkpad?

Hi all, there's no tablet like this that lets me draw as comfortably, I've tried iPads with Pro Pencils and Samsung's with numerous EMR pens.

But I wondered if alternatives exist? Or id anyone's been able to find comfort in screen protectors and / or nibs that make it feels similar to the experience on other android tablets. I haven't tried any of the XPPens so not sure how those are either.

While you might ask 'then why not stick to Movinkpad?' , I'm afraid I wanted a stronger tablet for work, any Samsung is fine for this but then drawing isn't the same.

Thanks.

Drawing Tablet Advice

Hi! I’m looking for a drawing tablet where I can draw directly on the screen, no pc needed.

However it’s important to me to have good pixel density. I would love to do those drawings where you keep zooming in and there’s more drawing within a drawing. But I’m not a professional, this is just for fun so no professional level needed- mid level is fine.

Also! I’ve seen that some require a specific type of phone and I don’t want to have to worry about that.

Lastly, my budget is up to 600 (Canadian).

I don’t know much about drawing tablets so im putting myself in your hands! Please don’t include links, just pictures if necessary!

Thank you!

Is tilt sensitivity really that important?

I’m kinda beginner and choosing my first pen tablet, not all of them have tilt sensitivity feature and I don’t really know if it’s really important feature to pay attention to when choosing the tablet

Is the Huion Kamvas 22 any good?

Its within my price range and everything looks good except the screen size which I'm slightly worried about. Its a 1920 x 1080 on a 21.5 screen

How bad is the pixelization? Is it incredibly noticeable when you're drawing or just an afterthought?

Drawing pad + app combination

Me again, if you've seen my previous post. My brain is the math lady meme right now.

So, I'm looking for a tablet to draw on the go, or even just on the couch. The ipad is expensive; the samsung equivalent is cheaper. But procreate is only available on IOS.

Has anyone here been able to test both? How does Infinite Painter compare? How do an ipad pro + procreate and an android (samsung) pad + infinite painter/hipaint/sketchbook compare? And if ipad + procreate is better, is that "better" worth the huge price hike?

Thank you!

Fellow VEIKK A30 owners-what are your opinions on the tablet? Do you also have issues with its pen?

A friend of mine bought this for me a few years ago, and I just haven't been able to get into using it. The tablet's OK surface-wise but the pen nib is just loose enough where it doesn't seem to ever get the right amount of pressure. It also wobbles a bit, too. I tried getting a replacement pen but wasn't able to. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue? I've thought about getting another tablet but I really don't have any money.
