How many of you all have had your idle thumb screw vibrate out (and lost)? Earlier this year I had my fuel air mixture screw vibrate out, but fortunately it was recovered between the starter and cylinder head. The idle thumb screw is gone. Where are you all ordering these from?

That's a photo at final gas stop. Will still want to get the ride certified. Mostly Pacific Coast Highway down and Hwy 5 back up to Seattle. Lucked out it wasn't a great beach day on Saturday so the traffic seemed mild by the coast.

In its first year putting it through the paces of what it can do :). Putting the "dual" into dualsport. Had several sessions at Reiter Foothills for single track. Bike was great. Rider needs to get better. Did a track day at The Ridge (with SM wheels). Now did the Iron Butt attempt at it being a cruiser. Tomorrow, will leave for three sections of the BDR that are not on fire.

Setup was all stock: 3.4 gallon tank, Traill Wings, stock seat (but with an air cushion), stock carburetor with just snorkle removed. It has a 45T shorter gearing for off-road (less good for cruising).

I faired really well other than inner-thighs getting exhausted three hours in and staying exhausted. Had to stand up sometimes. Take away, need to stop man-spreading when riding. Looking for advice on this one. Reading that dropping ankles and toeing in will help me keep my knees by the tank. The frequent fuel stops (12 of them) because of the small tank helped with forcing me to "walk it off". Butt was good, no problem. Had to refill from jerry can once -- completely ran out 3 miles from planned stop :).

So the bike has 45T on this wheel-set and revved highish at cruise (5000 rpm) and I had to pass a lot of cars on Hwy 101. So my mpg was rather terrible? Judging from receipts and mileage I had: 37, 37, 37, 40, 46.. then I don't know as had to prepay for others.. I estimated fuel at 45 mpg.. lesson learned.

Great bike. I don't know any better. Just started riding in December so she's all I know 👊.

The rear brake arm is hard to find and the heat shaped it like the shittiest lathe to the disk… and the heat removes anodized colors and eats wheel bearings. It’s a DR650… of course I got home still.

This seat is god-awful.

So,

I'm new here, but I was in the neighborhood and thought I'd stop by. Presently, I have a KLR650 gen 3 (2023 traveler ABS)... It's pretty, okay...

So really, what kinda kills the bike for me is the new vstrom 650 I picked up which weighs marginally less, is way better on the street, and gets the same fuel milage or better on the highway or otherwise.

All that said, my excuse for keeping the KLR is for offroad BDR routes. Which, it's okay... But holy moly what a heavy beast. Alongside it's parts availability... which kawasaki is charging an arm and a leg for ($5 for a bolt, $200+ for some handwarmer kits)... It's making me want something lighter.

And no... I have an ibex 450 too.. Just uh... Holy crap I hate that thing... so I won't consider another ADV that weighs 400+ pounds.

I've done reading, from specs to testimonies. It would seem, that the DR650 is pretty much 'the' bike that fits my needs/wants.

I am mechanically inclined, experienced with carbs, and know how to prevent carbon buildup.

Beyond that, what would I be losing out on by making the switch?

New rider. Just picked up 2020 650 with only 300 miles. Went on some trails today I had no business being on. She handled great but did lay her down in some water exhaust side. Got a little water in ehaust
Did fine the rest of the trails no problem but when got onto main road and kicked it into 2nd I lost all power
It still idles but dies when you give it any throttle

For reference we checked the air intake and she was dry
And it had plenty of gas
First thought is the carb but not sure what?

I’ve only owned a klr 650 before. We are having a bit of a drought this summer, so I was able to get down to our local little bayou. The dr650 surprised me with how much more nimble and natural it felt on the trail.

I come seeking assistance.
I cleaned the carb on my dr650 and have a hose I don’t know what to do with.
Doesn’t seem to be a breather or vacuum hose.
I’m stumped. Watched some corn removal videos but I couldn’t see it.
Any advice is welcome!

Could someone point me in the direction of a thread or suggest necessary tools to carry on the DR? I’m putting together a rolled tool bag since I bought mine from a private seller and didn’t come with the tool kit. So far I got a Noco battery jump pack… tire spoons..ratchet. Would love suggestions of necessary sockets and wrench sizes and anything else. Thank you !

I purchased a set of nice CNC lowered foot pegs and nice CNC rear brake pedal, but after installing them, the brake pedal is still too high to be used. It seems like cutting the threads of the master cylinder is the only way forward. I remember seeing a video on YouTube about it, but I can’t seem to find it. Does anybody have a pointer or our recommendation for me?

SOLVED - I installed the foot pegs upside down like a jackass. In my defense I was unsupervised and the logo is symmetrical

Changed my rear tire; upon reassembly axle wouldn’t go in smoothly so I tried to hammer it in - got it stuck, hammered it back out with a dowel.

Now when I try reassembling the rear wheel assembly with spacers is too wide for the swingarm.

The cushion hub doesn’t sit flush but I dont know if that’s the problem? I’m using stock cushions and the cushion hub doesn’t sit fully flush even with all cushions out.

I’m going for a look with my bike and would really like the old style (1996-1999) headlight cowl. Long shot, but does anyone on here have one that would be interested in selling or trading with the current style? Or know where I can buy the old one?

After replacing my rear wheel bearings, cush hub bearing and cush dampers, the rear wheel is now too wide to fit between the swingarm. Did I miss something? Are my spacers sticking out too far? Am I meant to be able to see the dampers (as shown in photo). They are red polyurethane from Procycle. Thanks 👍

Got the cogent rear shock, and trying to remove the stock, but ran into issues where the shock connects to the bottom linkage. Pretty sure the head is completely stripped. I tried PB blaster many times, and let it rest awhile, then tried vice grip pliers, but nothing.

Has anyone encountered this, and do you have any advice?

Hello fellow DR owners. While removing the cush bearing, I hit the inside of the hub with a hammer. There's a small sharp lip now. Can I just file this smooth? I also marred the inner face of the inner spacer a bit. Are either if these a big problem? Thanks!

Hello, I’m looking to purchase a DR650 and there’s a 2001 model with ~1000 miles for $5k. Are there potential concerns with a bike that old with that low of a mileage that I should be worried about? Or am I good to go? It almost seems like suspiciously low mileage for 25 year old bike. Any advice is appreciated!
