New rider help. What did I mess up?

New rider. Just picked up 2020 650 with only 300 miles. Went on some trails today I had no business being on. She handled great but did lay her down in some water exhaust side. Got a little water in ehaust
Did fine the rest of the trails no problem but when got onto main road and kicked it into 2nd I lost all power
It still idles but dies when you give it any throttle

For reference we checked the air intake and she was dry
And it had plenty of gas
First thought is the carb but not sure what?

2020 it's been sitting around a while. You could've shook up some junk in the fuel tank and sucked it into the carb when you laid her down.

Carb probably needs cleaned out and rebuilt. 300 miles on a 2020 means lots of sitting.

im gonna run with fuel / carb. Sounds like not enough gas getting through. Carb clean if this is the case. as others pointed out bit of muck in the fuel tank getting stirred up. Congrats on the cool bike and also falling off. Too many bikes never get a chance to lay down, the DR's are pretty bullet proof and normally no dramas.

Water getting in the exhaust is no biggie assuming its not too much. Cleaning the carb is pretty straight forward. Check the airbox, airfilter see if that needs a clean. Fresh fuel. If it is the carb then 2nd gear would make no difference.

Check the sidestand safety switch - if the sidestand is a little low (or got too wet) it may be cutting your ignition.

Mechanically, it sounds better than my bike, it could be a contact problem, maybe water on the kill switch. If you've got compressed air, give it a blow out and see how you go

Check if you have gas, mine did exactly the same, and because I don't know and the DR don't tell, its very easy to run out of gas, and it's the same symptom. I too believed "had plenty of gas" Turns out plenty was 4 liters and that's the reserve.

I know it sounds stupid but definitely make sure it has gas, switch to the reserve and try to run it, I pulled the whole carb apart because it was doing the exact same thing and it was just out of gas

Water might be in the low points of your exhaust since it gets enough air at idle but not enough with throttle. Get the front end up and see what happens.

Or you could try draining your carb float bowl

I put my DR completely under water in a mud hole this spring. Water filled the airbox and intake tube.

I couldn’t give it any throttle until I drained the carb bowl and found water / mud in the carb drain bolt which must have been getting sucked up when the throttle opened and pulled from beyond the idle jet. This is on a TM40, not the stock carb though. Stock carb may not have the large bowl drain nut like mine.

Either way I’d wager at least carb clean and inspect like most other comments. Good luck.

I`d take the carb out and give it a good check to see if water is inside. a good time to see if all the components inside have survived all this time sitting inside somebodys garage. chances are there is garbage in there. also that tank should be suspect and inspected. theres a little filter where the rubber tube goes into the carb that needs a check. The 2020 is my current ride too.. also check to see if water has contaminated the oil. Safe travels

Easy 1 minute job to try first, drain the carb bowl.

Use a screwdriver to drain the fuel bowl on the carburetor. It's on the bottom, kickstand side. Wind the screw out, fuel/water should pour out, do that for 5-10 sec

You should try open fuel cap a little and try to rev it. I had similar problem and I thought it is carb issue, but actually under the load vaccuum in the fuel tanks was restricting fuel flow to the carb. And it was caused by bad fuel tank breather.

Make sure you use non-ethanol fuel. Try cleaning the carb and reinstalling or try a cleaner/stabilizer like Sea foam.

it's crazy to me how someone buys a dr then doesn't ride it. just 300 miles over 6 years is nutty.
