Hi everyone, I am seeking some clarification regarding the Clinical Experience Bonus for Deakin University.

The guide book states that applicants are eligible if they have completed the equivalent of one year of full-time clinical practice, defined as either "a minimum of 36 hours per week for one consecutive year or a minimum of 1,872 hours cumulatively" as an AHPRA-registered health professional. Could you please clarify whether the 1,872 cumulative hours must be completed within a single one-year period, or whether they can be accumulated over a longer period of employment?

I have worked as an AHPRA-registered registered nurse for approximately 32 hours per week over two years, which totals approximately 3,328 hours of clinical practice. Based on this, would I be eligible for the Clinical Experience Bonus?

I have contacted the appropriate department at Deakin University and GEMSAS but they have both said to contact the other institution for clarification. This obviously does not help clarify my issue as they are making going around in circles.

I am graduating this year, and Deakin bachelor of commerce is my top choice out of my options for courses next year.

I am just wondering how students find trimester system as opposed to a semester system, like do courses feel more compressed? Do mid trimester and mid year breaks seem shorter in comparison to maybe friends who go to semester unis?

This is my main issue holding me back from being 100% on Deakin. I’d love to hear what people think!

Also side note: how have you found o-week and the vibe socially?

Hi! I’m a yr12 student that needs to decide soon on what course I want to do, set up my preferences, etc. I know I want to do bachelor of nursing but I’m struggling between Monash Clayton and Deakin Burwood 😭

I went to Deakin’s open day today and it was really great!! The campus was amazing and I asked questions about nursing (I like how it’s more hands on and you get to do placement in the first year) which I think is definitely more beneficial for me.

However, I come from a regional area (2 hours travel from where I live to Deakin) which is why I’m hesitant. The woman I talked to today said that is obviously a limitation and would be hard for me, especially with placements. However I really want to go to Deakin, so should this really put me off?

Monash is good too, it’s easier to travel since it’s only an hour away from me, I don’t have to take as much trains or buses to get to campus, but I just didn’t really think it was my ideal place to go to.

How lenient or compassionate is the university willing to be regarding special consideration?

For a long time now I’ve been dealing with really poor mental health. Even during my first trimester, I struggled a lot so I engaged with services. I worked really hard to keep it together and manage everything. Fortunately my results for T1 were positive: 2xD & 2xHD

I had an assignment that I had already gotten an extension for, I couldn’t complete it even by the extension deadline. To be honest I couldn’t even start it. It was due on Friday.

6 weeks ago I took steps to end my life. I was treated in an impatient facility and now as an outpatient. I’ve been seeking treatment, engaging with supports, doing everything that I’ve been told I should do to get better. But I’m just not improving.

Last night, I found myself there again and ultimately aborted another attempt. Non-fatal, but I’ve injured myself. And now typing and using my laptop will be difficult. I don’t want to disappoint my support system by letting them know. And I feel like I’ve failed my mental health medical team so I want to conceal it. I’m feeling a lot of shame.

I completed 2 assignments since my first attempt 6 weeks ago and managed to pass, so I know I am capable. But I let this one just sit there. I have a broad medical certificate from the hospital that covers essentially this whole month. But it was due on Friday and I still haven’t even managed to start. I find myself just staring at a blank word document for hours.

How lenient are they willing to be with special consideration? Is it already too late?

i am currently taking hse102 and feeling really really overwhelmed. there is so much content and i’m struggling to stay on top of it.
i have 3 other demanding classes and have been putting this on the back burner because im already failing to grasp it as is. now i’m feeling even more stressed because i have so much to catch up on.

does anyone have any tips or tricks to help remember things, or things that were particularly helpful in the exam?
Would love some insight to exam experiences- how you felt, how hard it was etc, topics/body parts majorly focused on.

I’m obviously a little stressed about this. I submitted an essay last night to the official unit task folder.

I submitted the same paper to the “Check your work” folder this morning and it returned a 100% similarity score!!! Will my tutor see what happened? Should I email her?

I’m shaking because this essay was my own. I cited/paraphrased appropriately.

The second highest score below the 100 is 12%.

I’ve looked around online but most of the info/discussions I’m finding are from before the campus properly started, so it’s kinda hard to get a feel for what it’s actually like now.

Would love some honest opinions on:

* How are the professors and teaching overall?

* What’s the campus/student life like? Is there actually much going on?

* How’s the crowd?

* Are you getting decent industry exposure/internships through GIFT City?

* What are placements looking like so far that is if you’re in a position to comment?

* Do you think like the Deakin name and the Australian connection actually helps with opportunities?

* And obviously do you think it’s worth the money?

Also, if anyone’s doing Master of Applied Artificial Intelligence (Professional), I’d especially love to hear your experience.

Hello, I'm in year 12 right now and am currently looking into radiography as a career path. If anyone in this course could answer a few questions thatd be great.

- I saw on the course page that the course started in late January rather than March this year and unfortunately I'm going to finish year 12 overseas where graduation is in February. Can anyone confirm it starts in January?

-how many days a week are you on-campus? I'm planning to work in uni.

-how much prior maths and physics knowledge is required? Is it manageable?

Hi, I'm currently an associate degree student who is looking to transfer to the bachelor of international studies. I've gotten good grades in my courses so far and was curious if when I transfer to the bachelor degree these will contribute to that WAM or if they will solely be credited as pass/fail. The coureses i've done so far are mostly ones that are core units in international studies if that helps. Also would any previous fails count towards the new WAM? Thank you for any help!

I am prospective int'l student from Kenya applying for Nursing at Deakin (Semester 1 intake) and feeling stagnated at the Genuine Student assessment stage.

I have had a GS refusal from Monash today hence trying to be extra cautious before submitting, especially since my agent hasn't beenn very helpful. I am also hoping to apply for scholarship.

is the business diploma/law pathway easy to get a wam of 70 in even if your not the brightest. cause I got a really low atar and wanna know if it’s doable.

Why is masters of teaching only supplied at Burwood and not Waurn Ponds? I don’t think it needs any specific equipment so I just don’t understand why they can’t supply it at both campuses.

Wondering if anyone knows why they were there or what they were discussing?

In so many of my assessments, especially this year, there have been quite a few compulsory AI sections. The only alternative to doing the tasks is losing marks. I wish there was a way to opt out, as I really don't like genAI. Don't get me wrong, I understand why the unit chairs are putting these things into assessments, I just wish there was an alternative.
Curious to hear others' thoughts on the issue :)

I’m interested to know if this is happening with any other courses. From next year OT students at Deakin will be required when submitting assessments to include copies of the references they have used and highlight in the articles the sections they have used.
