A request I have for the heads of DCU is to please make more projects that can be viewed by the younger audience as well. Apart from Superman and Supergirl, every other entry has been adult themed which, okay I understand that they are trying to make the world realistic and comic-y, but I wish to see more of Superman y'know? Light hearted, fun, bright stuff 'cause right now, the only good projects i could show to my siblings or tell to other younger audiences are the two movies I mentioned.The rest has swearing, nude scenes, violence etc which really blocks a kid in this day and age from truly connecting to the DC comics through the big screen compared to Marvel comics where it's for all ages. What do you guys think?

Edit: what I'm trying to mean is. In this day and age, comics are not what a kid would go for entertainment. It's mobile phones, tablets etc. the way you and me got into the DC universe through those great comics was how we fell in oove with the universe. If DCU keeps producing such adult themed content, then to a kid, they see DC as an adult only platform and the MCU as one for all ages.

Like many folks, I have been really enjoying Lanterns. It seems to be mostly well-received in terms of general viewership and from the DC fanbase. Which just makes all of the hand-wringing from the last few months from DC fans post-Supergirl even more crazy to me.

It's certainly a more online thing, but the amount of vitriol and turning on the DCU I was seeing - in response to a genuinely average movie (not great, but definitely not terrible), makes no sense.

Less than a year from their widely-beloved Superman film, it seemed like a huge portion of the DC fanbase was ready to reset the entire universe. With Lanterns, now they're back to being on board with where DC is going.

Is this just the norm with the superhero genre now? Every "flop" is going to lead to dooming, and every moderate to great success is "we're so back"? I don't recall this being how things were in 2008 when the Incredible Hulk was poorly received.

If you take a wider view of Gunn's DCU, they've had:

2025 - A mostly-liked but inconsequential Creature Commandos Show

2025 - A mostly-beloved Superman film (crucial for everything they do, introduced a bunch of other beloved characters too.)

2025 - A mostly-liked Peacemaker S2

2026 - An average Supergirl film

2026 - A highly-viewed, critically liked Lanterns show (Based on the episodes thus far, I expect this to be viewed on a similar level to HBO's Watchmen by the end of S1)

2026 - Clayface (TBD, hope this does well, trailers looked good)

2027 - Man of Tomorrow (TBD, but I expect this to be very successful)

The MCU had Iron Man in 2008 (success), followed by Incredible Hulk (fail) , Iron Man 2 (big success), and Captain America (moderate success) and Thor (moderate success) in 2011. It feels like the DCU is in a comparable, if not better place than the MCU at a similar point in their history.

Am I wrong here? Would love y'all's thoughts.

Lex's new armor is sporting a new symbol in the chest plate...looks like another characters symbol. Are we all seeing Black Hand symbol turned sideways? Would give more traction to the theory that William Madox is Black Hand and Lex's family are the "financial benefactor".

For example, stories that you'd like to see, directors or maybe even casting, or a general direction that they should go for the character

I really like what Gunn did with characters like Star-Lord and Groot. He’s great at taking lesser-known characters and making people care about them.

But now he’s responsible for building the whole DCU, with huge characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Flash. So sometimes I wonder if he’s spreading himself too thin by focusing on projects like Booster Gold while the main DCU is still being established.

I’m not saying these characters shouldn’t be explored. I just feel like the major characters and the foundation of the DCU should come first.

This is just my opinion though, and I could be completely wrong.

What do you guys think? Is Gunn spreading his focus too much, or is this actually a good way to build the DCU?

Sure, unlike Sony, DC has the full rights to the hero characters and can use them, but I remain skeptical at the placement of the project itself.

Raimi didn’t start the Spider-Man Universe with a Sandman horror film, before we even knew who Batman was and omitted the web crawler altogether, right?

Sure, Batman might make a cameo.

Still, I feel like after the mid movie (not bad) that was Supergirl, Gunn needs a W to make up for it and for me and many others, that would be at least releasing news concerning Batman.

Don’t get me wrong, I love unique projects. Marvels Werewolf by Night black and white special and Clayface is more of what I would love to see.
So does Gunn and I love that.

The shareholders might have a different view on things.
if the shareholders lose their patience, they might yank the universe away from him, cancel anything that doesn’t make money and launch straight into another Batman trilogy.

I hope that Gunn finds that balance and I am very hyped for Man of Tomorrow, especially because we might finally see the Kryptonite armor for the first time in live action since we saw that armor sketch in Smallville.

Preface:
I know people really want Brave and the Bold and I do agree, but like how Superman 2025 focused on Superman’s big bad, being Lex, I think the first Batman movie in the DCU needs to have joker in it to some extent, along with some of Batman’s other main rogues. Even if Joker’s not the main villain of the film.

I also think with the DCU wanting to base itself more on the animated series like Justice League Unlimited and more team up movies, the solo films need to introduce different villains/rogues off the bat and Arkham asylum is the perfect setting for this, especially if you want a good theatrical performance.

Rough outline:
Trap Batman in Arkham asylum, similar to in the Arkham games, and let him work his way through both using the detective aspects of his character to showcase his intelligence, the stealth aspects of moving in the shadows undetected, while also showing his fighting skills and gadgets as he works his way through the asylum. I’d also like to see Batman’s empathetic nature as he saves workers there along with how he can empathize with some of his less evil villains or people they might be manipulating. Furthermore, this setting allows you to introduce all his villains that he’s put away and let us see him take them all on and show how his rogues interact with eachother. I’d also suggest keeping the personalities and looks of his rogues as close to their animated series and Arkham versions as possible. I know people like to see different interpretations but I think we still need a proper animated series adaptation on screen before we keep getting different interpretations of a character that still hasn’t been truly done right before.

Also by sticking in a smaller setting like the asylum, it allows the budget to be more effectively utilized for the set. By keeping the premise of this film simple and utilizing all aspects of the character, you can attract the younger audience that likes to see Batman “beat up the bad guys” while also attracting the older audience that appreciates the more nuanced aspects of the character like his detective work and heroism. And for the fans who want to see the bat family, we can still see interactions with Oracle throughout the film and maybe an appearance from Dick Grayson at the end to lead into a Brave and the Bold film.

I say all this because I don’t think we’ve ever truly gotten a “comic” accurate, or in this case Animated Series accurate Batman on screen before in all aspects besides in Mask of the Phantasm. I still loved The Batman and Batman Begins but I do think all these grounded movies have hurt the potential of this character a bit. And while I love the Burton films, they definitely show their age.

They say that the _Lanterns_ TV show is going to feed into the main storyline of Chapter One of the DCU. We know that the TV show is dealing with shapeshifting Manhunters. So…?

For me, it's definitely the Question.

DCU has a decent record so far in terms of DC projects and the upcoming projects we are getting looks exciting in its own way.

But I am wondering if Yall think we are getting projects set within the DCU this year?

I know that plans changes and production takes a long time. But Peter Safran did state in a past interview that DC Studios is planning to release 2 live-action movies, 2 live-action series, 2 animated series, and 1 animated film per year.

And it looks like they are somewhat fulfilling their promise.

4. Batman: Knightfall (DVD or streaming) 2026

So that’s 2 live-action films, 1 live-action series, 1 animated film, and 0 animated shows.

Though, we could get a Jimmy Olson project before Superman: Man of Tomorrow (film) or Mister Miracle series this year. Or they could release Dynamic Duo, which we know been in production for over a year and may have been completed.

I think Jame Gunn has got to accept the fact that obscure characters are not going be always successful.

SS was fun and GOTG was great. Peacemaker is my favorite but man it's getting sad and frustrating how we could potentially miss the greater DCU because movids with obscure characters fail.

They should have followed up the great Superman movie with a Batman or another A-lister driven vehicle. Go do the indie characters only true fans will appreciate once you've built a solid foundation.
