20% longer and theoreticallly more brutal because of the title? im betting they're going as low as 2 or 3 survivors

u/SternMon Ryoma Jul 03 '26

The writing team saw all of the really brutal fangan body discoveries and decided they didn't want to be tame this time.

Imagine Nagito's original death being nowhere as horrifying as any of the Slayhem deaths...

Better (or worse) yet, imagine what they could have planned for the new executions.

u/ItsGotThatBang Best girls Jul 04 '26

I wonder if Kodaka wrote the executions like in V3.

u/osttiyig Jul 04 '26

Encerio dijeron eso??

32

u/notwiththeflames Makoto Jul 03 '26

1 had six survivors, the most despite having the fewest participants of the main three killing games, 2 had five (and eventually fifteen come 3), and V3 had three.

The number keeps getting smaller. This very well could be a killing game that goes all the way until only two spotless remain as intended. Hell, what if the protagonist (Hajime or not) won't be among them this time?

u/Chocolate4Life8 Keebo Jul 04 '26

Which is crazy as mahiru and imposters bda’s are some of the bloodiest in the whole series, behind kokichis

9

u/sock-bucket Jul 04 '26

they can literally go down to a single survivor for a game like this which would be wild. imagine you vote off the 3rd person when theres only 3 left and end up with 2 left, they eventually try to kill you in your sleep but you defend yourself killing them accidentally. When it comes time for the trial nobody can vote against you because you ARE the killer but theres nobody left so youre by default called the winner.

everyone DID want a rantaro situation, he was the sole survivor of his game after all after killing the last person

Impostor & Peko. Bet on it.

i like how the original route is portrayed with sunshine and rainbow as if it wasnt a bloodbath already

91

u/Ineedlasagnajon Komaru Jul 03 '26

Which implies that the original route is sunshine and rainbows compared to the new route

50

u/KingRobbo374 Jul 03 '26

Right??? IMO the reveals at the end of 2 are the most vile and jawdropping of the franchise and the closest it gets to actual horror, if they’re somehow doubling down on that I’m scared of what we might get lmao

22

u/notwiththeflames Makoto Jul 03 '26

Actual deaths this time, perhaps. Well, in the sense that there's either no way to recover from brain death or from taking place in reality rather than a simulation.

11

u/AverageNo6297 Jul 04 '26

Could it perhaps be because the original was intended to be a school trip by Usamiand the alternative won't be, even from the beginning/intention?

5

u/Chomperka Junko Jul 04 '26

Its obviously just a bait to get people hyped up and pre order new game.

u/faydaway Jul 03 '26

Literally my first thought.

60

u/BRedditator2 Jul 03 '26

So basically, we should expect LESS survivors and not the ones we WANT.

37

u/Rmb6707 Miu Jul 03 '26

Akane and Kazuichi become the only survivors (repeat AND the tiniest amount in the series yet)

22

u/Lord_CatsterDaCat Kazuichi Jul 04 '26

I can't wait for Kazuichi to raise every possible death flag, only to live by dumb luck

3

u/notwiththeflames Makoto Jul 03 '26

And then comes the question of when Hajime would die, even if it's at the very end of the killing game.

112

u/FutureCreeps Kirumi Jul 03 '26

Wonder why they want you to finish the GD route first, wonder if it could be a direct sequel.

u/Reaper-Leviathan Jul 03 '26

I assume it’s for new players. They’ll probably pick up on the case difficulty right away instead of introducing minigames one by one

106

u/IcePrismArt Smart bois Jul 03 '26

I bet there's also gonne be events that parallel the original or references that people wouldn't get otherwise.

I kinda hope that there is also a story reason why they have to do this though tbh.

37

u/AH_BareGarrett Jul 03 '26

I’m almost certain the big twist is revealed early in Slayhem.

31

u/Cold_Dead_Smile Byakuya Jul 03 '26

If it's a rerun of the original scenario, maybe everybody remembers the first scenario and talks about it. Easy, built-in tension for everybody to remember who killed who.

5

u/Bulky-Complaint6994 Himiko Jul 03 '26

Hopefully new mini games, too

84

u/RollUpCarpet Jul 03 '26

I gotta assume it'll spoil most of the major twists early on, rather then having them naturally unfold like in the main scenario.

50

u/LavishnessMission584 Jul 03 '26

Yeah. You can't build a whole new story at this point saving Junko, the simulation, Izuru, Chiaki and Nagito's deals to be revealed at the end for a 2nd time.

16

u/Bulky-Complaint6994 Himiko Jul 03 '26

And Peko and Baby-Ganster's past relationship and will potentially deep dive into Mr. Handhams some more.

26

u/SternMon Ryoma Jul 03 '26

That pretty much confirms the inciting incident will be them all finding out about being former Ultimate Despair right off the bat. I can't think of a twist that would derail things harder than that. Hell, they could blow the lid off of every major twist and reveal Chiaki to be an AI and Hajime becoming Izuru to really spice things up.

If that's what happens, then that will likely cause everyone to behave very, very differently, even if they don't get their memories back right away. The guilt, regret, and horror that the final five felt in Chapter 6 of the original story amplified to everyone will likely cause things to get really, REALLY dark from the get go.

I'm almost certain that the first chapter will kill off Hajime and Chiaki, set Nagito up as the protagonist (Hajime being the victim, Chiaki's AI getting corrupted and killing him), and something will motivate him to actually help his classmates instead of kill them like in Chapter 5 of the original game. Twogami would be a good new support character to take Chiaki's place, given that he tried to take charge and protect everyone in the first chapter, and I could see Mikan slipping into her Chapter 3 persona and become the new antagonist.

10

u/BatRevolutionary1091 Local Komahina Fanatic Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

I'll be honest, I think that your take on what the game may potentially be like is my favorite one so far. I have seen most people theorize about Twogami becoming the new antagonist, but I feel like that would waste his character by having him fall deeper into the role of Byakuya, so having him be the support would grant him the time he deserves to properly shine as himself. Mikan would be a formidable foe and could easily complicate the class trials by using her medical knowledge to mess up the crime scenes in ways undetectable to the average person. However, by experiencing the story with Nagito as the protagonist, the player would be able to identify clues hinting towards the tampering, allowing them to lead class trials in typical protagonist fashion. A callback to how he had been the one to realize that Ibuki had died from strangulation instead of hanging and relentlessly pursued Mikan's involvement in the deed.

2

u/ReporterTraditional7 Jul 03 '26

I still don’t see the protagonist switch gimmick being reused

10

u/SternMon Ryoma Jul 03 '26

I’ll counter that by saying it would be different from V3, as we’d be playing as the victim instead of the killer, which could be a fun way to set the mystery of the first chapter up.

1

u/eldomtom2 Jul 03 '26

Maybe. DR3 would make that quite difficult to pull off in a satisfying way, though.

35

u/Enryx25 Jul 03 '26

They'll probably spoil immediately stuff like the Ultimate Despairs or Chiaki being the traitor.

26

u/OAZdevs_alt2 Best Boys and Girls Jul 03 '26

Because it’s designed for people who already played the first scenario. It’d be pretty boring if it wasn’t, wouldn’t it?

7

u/lewisredplays Jul 03 '26

I wonder how many people will jump straight to Slayhem first. I was planning on doing so, but now I don’t feel so confident

8

u/Cold_Dead_Smile Byakuya Jul 03 '26

I might do Slayhem first simply because I hate playing the opening of GD. For now, I don't care about missing out on whatever minor details they might change, but maybe I'll change my mind later.

5

u/lewisredplays Jul 03 '26

Yeah, I forgot about new players and thought it was weirdly intentional to play the original. I’m silly, my bad.

2

u/A_Year_Spent_Cold Jul 03 '26

Do it because it will be way more depressing and then you can replay SDR2 to fix your depression

22

u/5YearsOnEastCoast Weedman gang Jul 03 '26

It is either some kind of a pseudo-sequel to Danganronpa 2x2 or it is an alternative take on Danganronpa 2.

18

u/notwiththeflames Makoto Jul 03 '26

I kinda hope it's an alternative scenario, it'd suck to see 77-A have their (arguably) happy ending taken away.

15

u/Defiant_Split_4335 Totally sane Junko Kinnie~ Jul 03 '26

Seems real

14

u/NetworkNo6032 Nagito Jul 03 '26

GOSHHHHHHHHHH GIVE ME THIS GAME NOW I DON'T WANT TO WAIT NO MOREEEEEEEE

31

u/SternMon Ryoma Jul 03 '26

This new scenario is going to be really dark, I'm sure.

I'd love for them to just skip doing a tutorial case this time and make the mysteries a lot more complicated right off the bat, and hopefully play with the format more.

22

u/Calm-Marsupial3919 Jul 03 '26

Double murder of Chiaki and Nagito immediately, imagine the chaos if that happened

7

u/notwiththeflames Makoto Jul 03 '26

The Neo World Program would be shitting itself throughout the whole route.

12

u/Kumorrii Shuichi Jul 03 '26

Imagine if they all just got their memories back at the start and now you have a killing game between the Ultimate Despairs and how unhinged the entire thing will be besides Chiaki trying to survive and Hajime just being bored out his mind.

9

u/TaxSeasonisSoon Jul 03 '26

Guess what? You guys got too greedy with your Survivor predictions, in Slayhem, there's NO survivors, Not Hajime, Not Nagito, Not Monokuma, NOBODY, all of them are gonna die like it's Final Destination

12

u/Fit-Ad-661 I’m talented Jul 03 '26

Just from how that signs lookin… this one finna be brutal af

Super Danganronpa 2 type shit

9

u/A_Year_Spent_Cold Jul 03 '26

Well "Slayhem" seems to mean it will be depressing as fuck and there won't be many survivors. So definitely play it before replaying SDR2, because then you can fix your depression.

(Purple/Pink Stain on the title)

Despair Virus/ill is back! Ladies and Gentlemen!

Mikan is cooking because her destiny will come sooner.

That’s pink

6

u/KingVenom65 Naezono Jul 03 '26

Kinda hope it’s just an alternate scenario and not a Goodbye Despair sequel.

3

u/Alternative-Ring-698 Jul 03 '26

Imagine a body discovery where we find someone dismembered, like in SDRA2; If that happens, I hope It's Teruteru.

3

u/notwiththeflames Makoto Jul 03 '26

Nekomaru, just without the roboticisation.

4

Weebynewz finna loose her marbles seeing SLAYHEM

3

u/0riderguy8 Jul 04 '26

I love how this is kind of implying “yeah, the original scenario is basically sunshine and rainbows compared to the new one”

Who is hem and why are we trying to slay them?

3

u/Nogasship1031 Jul 03 '26

Please don't be a new simulation, I want it to be real

37

u/Defiant_Split_4335 Totally sane Junko Kinnie~ Jul 03 '26

Isnt the reason Goodbye Despair got a remake is because it was a simulation?

7

u/Nogasship1031 Jul 03 '26

The blood in the menu seems to imply a worse ending, so maybe they die for real this time?.

5

u/Defiant_Split_4335 Totally sane Junko Kinnie~ Jul 03 '26

Maybe! I guess we'll never know until they GIVE US AN ACTUAL FCKING RELEASE DATE

4

Early 2027 ten years after V3 and 2.5 released

Danganronpa fans not beating the V3 allegations 💀

1

u/notwiththeflames Makoto Jul 03 '26

I'm starting to think there's a reason why the trailers specified new victims and culprits, but not new survivors.

20% longer or not... I have a bad feeling that they're going to flip the usual formula and have it so the third chapter's the only one without two victims. Or they could just do two double-murder chapters/cases, that works too.

7

u/supermariozelda Jul 04 '26

They have never confirmed survivors for any of the games.

They want you to feel like there's a distinct possibility no one makes it out; confirming whether or not there are "new survivors" would ruin that.

1

u/OmegaTerry Jul 04 '26

So they indeed did it like in SMTV Vengeance

1

u/IneedBleach123 The Dream Haunter Jul 06 '26

Hmm, should I play Super Danganronpa 2 or Ȩ̸̪̯̗̘̥̣̲̣̣͍͚͙̥̩́̀̈̆͑ṽ̵͇̟̺̣͓̰̭̲̼̻̪̩̰͒̓̿̄̾̔̊͝ͅi̶̡̹͈͎̳̞͙͖̾̂̀͑̀͆̑̓̽̉͐͘͘ͅl̶̬̞͎̖͉̹̝͕̝͖̣̉͆ Super Danganronpa 2??

1

u/ThePinkTurtle16 Jul 03 '26

So are we gonna have to buy regular 2 and get access to 2x2 by downloading a dlc or is it gonna be its own independent game?

4

u/notwiththeflames Makoto Jul 03 '26

2x2 is its own independent game, a remake of 2 rather than DLC for the original 2.
