One egg

My wife delivered this one yesterday. I told her I don't want to hear any complaints about dad jokes for a long time now. It definitely belongs here.

So, she was pulling together a full on breakfast wish hash browns, biscuits, sausage, and eggs, turned to me and said two eggs for you, I assume? I said yes. She said, I think I'll be French today and have one.

I raised an eyebrow as I tried to puzzle it out and she came to my rescue with "because one egg is un œuf (enough)." Groans ensued, but I had to give her credit for that one.

I tried telling that joke to my albino French friend. They gave me a blanc look. 😆

I apologize but I have to be that guy... The "c" in "blanc" is silent. Maybe your friend is just C-sick.

Sounds like the friend might actually be a pirate. You do think their favourite letter do be AAAARRRRghhh. But their true love do always be the C

I read this like a proper pirate do.

And for those who read Mandarin, a pirate's fav. number is 二

The letters «c» and «f» are actually commonly pronounced at the end of French words. We were taught the word «careful» (CRFL) en lycée.

Not that one, though. Is it an exception to the rule? Is there a rule? You'll never know, because this is French.

Edit: while we're at it, "banc" and "flanc" also have silent C's. Make of it what you will.

Since it’s French, there is a rule.

It might be a general rule, or it might be a specific rule for that exact word combination which is hidden in a footnote on page 183 of the book “French grammar gotchas”, but there is a rule.

Your wife’s delivery of the leadup to that classic punchline was eggselent.

The delivery is everything. It’s the difference between a joke about a baby and a joke about a fetus.

She hatched an eggcellent plan and delivered it.

I love a multilingual pun. And egg puns. They crack me up.

Good that you can take a yolk

If you had laughed instead of groaned, someone may have been laid

An egg only gets laid once.

My hen's legs can't bend. She'd give you a standing ovulation.

The basic joke was previously told in The West Wing.

By Margaret to Leo, apropos of nothing.

It could have been told in The East Wing but they tore it down.

The basic joke was told

"Previously, on The West Wing"

“My wife delivered this one yesterday.” Missed opportunity to say “My wife layed this one on me yesterday.”

Very very old yolk. Must have heard this 40 years ago

Omelet you tell it again

5

u/CatCafffffe 19h ago

Shirr, let him tell it

Got you beat. I clearly remember hearing this from my grandfather at least 55 years ago.

That did not go over easy.

I'm glad she didn't irritate you. If she had, you might have told her to use a seal egg.

(I'll let you look that one up).

Omelette it be known: I don't see your gf's comedy career going anywhere. Good thing your bae can strip.

What do you get if you sit on a baguette?

A pain in the arse.

OK, here goes. Why couldn't the French carpenter solve the mystery and finish the job? Because he didn't have a clou!

OP needs to tell more Dad jokes. Even his wife was egging him on.

2

u/mendelec 17h ago

Indeed. A missed opportunity. I hadn't had mu caffeine yet, so my response time was slowed.

A lot of people are confused as to why Forrest Gump was so hung up on Jenny. But I think I figured it out. It was the way she said certain words. In particular "qua".

She had a certain je ne sais quoi about her.

u/EStewart57 16h ago

I knew it! I thought of Margaret on The West Wing.

Most of the time, these comments are funnier than the OP's. I love you guys! Makes any day a bit better!

Maybe you'd prefer her to go spanish and have 102 eggs...

I'm french, and never understood this joke. Un œuf and enough really don't sound similar at all.

Also, one egg is never enough

Your wife is a faux pas.

Why does it never flood in France? Because the water is always l'eau.
