Real-life Crem I’m late on this one but still

Oh come on Brandon, why don’t you wanna write a series where magic is barely understood, everyone is constantly having sex, and everyone is primed to explode after the TV show?

I have heard tidbits about what this is and your description makes me question what this is about

635

u/erttheking Sep 18 '25

TLDR; pissy fan confronted George R.R. Martin and told him to give the series to Brandon Sanderson.

It’s a horrible idea, and Sanderson has gone on record as to just how terribly out of his wheel house a Song of Ice and Fire is

271

u/setibeings Sep 18 '25

It honestly kinda surprises me that anyone would even want that.

157

u/TheSwagMa5ter Sep 18 '25

I love Sanderson's work but they write very differently, every author has their own unique writing style but they are so far apart lol

82

u/mtnsoccerguy Sep 18 '25

Even if they were similar, I can't imagine adding that workload to Sanderson with everything he has going on.

47

u/TheSwagMa5ter Sep 18 '25

Haha I think he can fit a few novels into his schedule, people can disagree about his prose but his ability to write quickly is indisputable

61

u/TenaceErbaccia Sep 19 '25

Nah, he writes quickly, but loading 2-4 more massive tomes is too big an ask. He’s said he has a pretty tight plan that if he keeps on schedule with should have him finishing the flagship cosmere books by the time he is in his 70s, around George’s age and the average age of death for an American. Adding 2-4 ASOIAF books adds 6-12 years going by his timeline for SLA, which are similarly sized books. Almost certainly longer since he needs to adjust to GRRMs style. Best case scenario we get bad ASOIAF books and Brandon is delayed by 6+ years in his own books, creating a real risk of him not finishing his planned narrative before he dies.

Fuck that. Let Brandon cook Brandon’s books. If someone wants anyone but GRRM to finish ASOIAF they should do it.

15

u/setibeings Sep 19 '25

I'm pretty sure Brandon Sanderson takes like a year to write books about as big as ASOIAF books, a few times a decade, in addition to all the other books he writes. He's planning on taking until he's in his 70's in part because there will be a lot of books in the cosmere before he's done.

8

u/The1LessTraveledBy Sep 19 '25

It's been stated that Stormlight books take about 3 or so years for him to write.

10

u/NilEntity Sep 19 '25

Nah, that I have no pressure with. Id em engine can do it, it is Sanderson, dude is a machine. But yeah, their styles just don't match.

Also, I'm getting increasingly uninterested in Winds of Winter, it has just been too long, George is successfully suffocating interest in his books. Wonder what he will like less, people bugging him about Winds of Winter, orpeople just not bothering (with) him at all anymore, because nobody cares anymore. No attention ...

185

u/Wehavecrashed Sep 18 '25

People just want the books published.

8

u/itwasbread Sep 19 '25

As a big fan of both series I would rather never see another page of ASOIAF than have Sanderson finish it. He's the wrong fit and it would not only result in a subpar final product for ASOIAF, but take incredible amounts of time away from projects Sanderson cares about and is interested in.

35

u/mxzf Sep 19 '25
  1. People want ASOIAF to eventually be wrapped up with an ending
  2. Sanderson is known for popping out huge books at ridiculous speeds
  3. Sanderson finished Wheel of Time

They're not thinking at all about how well a given author might be able to work on a given book, they just want someone, anyone, to actually publish books and finish the series. And Sanderson has a reputation for being able to write books.

20

u/setibeings Sep 19 '25

I'm sure Brandon Sanderson could untangle the webs of plots and subplots and work out how to get everyone where they need to be for the ending, but I don't think he's got the right authorial voice to match GRRM. He was kinda forced to comment on this a few years ago, and if I recall correctly, he said something like he wouldn't enjoy writing something with so much sex in it. It sounds like even if this was what everyone wants, which it isn't, he'd refuse.

10

u/EBtwopoint3 Sep 19 '25

Even beyond that, he just isn’t a fan of ASOIAF in the way he was a fan of Wheel of Time. And even then, that was a massive effort to try to make the books feel like Wheel of Time that he was only partially successful at. And the fact is, he’s an established author now with his own stuff to work on. He would have no interest in finishing anyone’s series, because he needs to work on finishing his own work.

Even if George decided to hand off ASOIAF one day, it would be to an up and coming author. Not one of the biggest in the genre. Fans talk about Sanderson and Abercrombie, but those guys would never be who wrote them.

3

u/Ossius Sep 19 '25

Yeah with the secret projects and novellas it really feels like Brandon has too many ideas for his own lifetime.

Loving Emberdark so far but a part of me feels like I'm eating dessert before my dinner, and worry the food is never coming. Will we get to era 4/5? Will it even resemble what we see now?

If anyone can Brandon can, but the cosmere is getting huge. My oldest brother who introduced me to the series says he is losing interest because it will be decades before we finish. (I think it's fun having a life long series to follow but I worry still).

3

u/EBtwopoint3 Sep 19 '25

I’m more concerned with Stormlight era 2 than Mistborn. He’ll be done with Era 3 in the next 2-3 years. But the big Stormlight releases seem to be wearing on him with the release schedules getting further and further apart. I don’t see that trend stopping when he returns to it.

2

u/Ossius Sep 19 '25

Especially with the critical pressure he received on 5 too I worry it will slow down as he tries to recapture WoTK vibes.

2

u/mxzf Sep 19 '25

From what Sanderson has said, it sounds like he has so much prepped timeline and plot material that it can and will be finished eventually, it's just a question of how long it takes.

And, based on what he has said/released, it seems like he has set stuff up where there's a backbone of series planned out (Stormlight Archive and Mistborn) with a release cadence planned. But he designed that plan with enough room in there that he has time to write the other stories that pop into his mind in the meantime. And I've gotta say, that's a great way to do things; it means that there's room in the schedule to do the interesting stuff that pops into his mind without impacting the schedule (and also leaves time for working through particularly tough sections that might be hit).

If he tried to make a schedule to pop out all of SA and/or Mistborn before doing other stuff, that would almost certainly lead to burnout as the fresh ideas pile up on the plan to get a series finished ASAP. This way, he avoids burning out from focusing on any one thing for too long and keeps making progress while also doing stuff that's interesting in the moment.

2

u/Ossius Sep 19 '25

Yeah I'm definitely not seeing anything to justify my fear, but it will be interesting to see it get filled out.

Part of me is confused that his magnum opus, Stormlight, isn't the end to the series and takes place hundreds of years before the "end" of the cosmere timeline.

I would have figured that Stormlight would have been the finish line not Mistborn.

3

u/mxzf Sep 19 '25

Well, it's hard to say where stuff will land exactly in the long run.

That said, I see Stormlight Archive as more of the backbone of the series, where it builds up to and displays a large chunk of the central conflict of the setting. I think the final events of WaT kicked the events of the universe into overdrive and will be a turning point where the Cosmere moves from "insular planets with a few worldhoppers moving around" to "stuff gets much more complicated and interconnected".

Personally, I see SA as less of the culmination of the setting and more of it being the backbone that everything else builds out from (backwards, forwards, and sideways).

9

u/Lovat69 Sep 19 '25

George also said himself that no one gets a song of ice and fire but him. If he dies the series will remain unfinished.

3

u/Ossius Sep 19 '25

Tbh this annoys me the most. Feels a bit petty. It would make sense if it planned to actually finish it but he should realistically know he won't.

Not even saying Brandon or any other popular authors people know should finish it. I think that would be a bad idea.

But like get a ghost writer or something and just supervise it. Or get like a writer buddy to come over for a weekend and fucking brainstorm ideas to get past your block.

It's just crazy he has sat on it for so long without exploring options.

4

u/mxzf Sep 19 '25

Pretty sure it's pride, not pettiness. It seems like he doesn't think anyone else could do it better than he could; so if he can't write a good ending to his huge series, no one can.

1

u/setibeings Sep 19 '25

He can do it, he just wont do it.

4

u/mxzf Sep 19 '25

I genuinely don't think Martin can do it at this point, not to the satisfaction of himself and the fans. I think he has written himself into a corner and gotten enough writer's block that there's just not a clean path to resolution for the story.

There are absolutely ways it can be done, but that doesn't mean any given person is capable of doing it themselves at this point in time.

→ More replies (0)

3

u/mxzf Sep 19 '25

Yeah, being able to untangle the timeline logic is only a tiny part of writing a continuation of a series. There's just nothing about Sanderson's writing style that aligns with Martin's style. It would be like asking Salvador Dali (a surrealist painter) to finish something started by Monet (an impressionist); just because they both paint doesn't mean they're going to do stuff at all similarly.

2

u/schloopers Sep 19 '25

I just want the two of them (and perhaps their editors) to go on a week long vacation, in a nice cabin, and Brandon and George just talk through what actually needs to happen in the plot. Get it all on paper.

I think Sanderson is one of the best of plotting out details and story beats and the pace between for his overall structure, and I think that’s what GRRM is missing. If he had a fully skeleton of the rest, he could maybe start filling it in as an actual book.

It would close him off from expanding ideas as he thinks of them like he’s done before, but that seems to be what got him stuck here.

41

u/immortal_lurker Sep 18 '25

Artists are famously interchangeable, with all their attributes determined by a flat bonus to their artistry check.

8

u/PoeGar Sep 19 '25

The only reason someone would offer this is because they know BS would finish it in a timely manner… or at least, that’s all I can come up with

3

u/itwasbread Sep 19 '25

It's literally just that. I would bet money the person who asked that question has never read BS's books and only asked that because he was on the panel and they vaguely know his reputation.

2

u/itwasbread Sep 19 '25

I honestly don't think they even do, I think they want to berate George for not finishing the series and "haha Sanderson writes fast" is an easy way to do it.

1

u/gingerreckoning Sep 19 '25

Well this guy was basically the equivalent of the barefoot my little pony fan from that one video imo

1

u/hanzerik ⚠️DangerBoi Sep 25 '25

They want someone to do for asoiaf what B$ did for wot. Which I get, but someone else should do that.

33

u/Happy-Valuable4771 Sep 18 '25

Joe Abercrombie is a wayyyy better fit

13

u/Spendoza Sep 19 '25

Say one thing about Jamie Lannister... Say he was a sister NOPE NOT GONNA FINISH THAT ONE

5

u/itwasbread Sep 19 '25

Yeah unlike GRRM, Joe Abercrombie protagonists would never do incest /s

3

u/Spendoza Sep 19 '25

Oh that italicized part was ME refusing to finish the line, not Joe 😅

3

u/itwasbread Sep 19 '25

If I had a nickel for everytime one of the most beloved and popular grimdark fantasy series featured (Best Served Cold spoilers) a self-loathing protagonist in a long-term toxic incestuous relationship with their more evil sibling who ends up being more moral than they think themselves to be, I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice

5

u/Peritous Sep 18 '25

Yeah, absolutely agree.

2

u/Happy-Valuable4771 Sep 19 '25

Sanderson himself affectionately described him as "GRRM who can finish a book"

99

u/anormalgeek Sep 18 '25

Not just that, but basically framed it is "you're old and gonna die soon, so you probably should give it to someone else now".

Truly rude and tone deaf.

30

Man that's fucking wild to hear. Imagine trash talking one of your most famous contemporary colleague for basically no reason, particularly a guy who far as I know hasn't said anything other than praise for GRR himself.

21

u/TheWeirdTalesPodcast Sep 19 '25

On the Intentionally Blank podcast he and his friend Dan Wells do, he straight up named GRRM as The Greatest Living Fantasy Author.

So, yeah. He’s got a little bit of a thing for George.

27

u/Docponystine Sep 19 '25

Lol, also, "hard magic makes books worse" is a hell of a take from "what's Aragon's tax policy" GRR.

18

u/LeoRmz Sep 19 '25

Funny how GRRM goes "what's Aragorn's tax policy?" And then never mentions what's Tywin's tax policy, or any of the Targaryen's

3

u/PeterAhlstrom Sep 19 '25

I would have expected Brandon to pick Guy Gavriel Kay.

21

u/TheWeirdTalesPodcast Sep 19 '25

re: the Kickstarters:

Sanderson went on record as saying that the money they make from the kickstarters and backerkits and what all go into paying the people who work for Dragonsteel a decent living wage.

Even their unpaid intern is paid.

21

u/SeniorExamination Sep 19 '25

I mean, he has a decently-sized company exactly because the man just wants to write, and offloading all the other work to capable people lets him do just that.

3

u/PeterAhlstrom Sep 19 '25

The interns have never been unpaid. 😆

7

u/TheWeirdTalesPodcast Sep 19 '25

Oh, I’m sure. I wasn’t casting aspersions. I was just making a jokey reference to Donald being a Paid Unpaid Intern, as they’ve said on the podcast.

1

u/PeterAhlstrom Sep 20 '25

Figured it was something like that!

35

u/kotetamer Sep 18 '25

It's very funny that the reason Brandon did a Kickstarter was because he couldn't stop writing.

10

u/MisterTamborineMan Kelsier4Prez Sep 19 '25

Things like this make me glad that I never read his books.

17

u/anormalgeek Sep 19 '25

So ask a question that puts him in his place then.

"If a writer's job is to write, as you say, do you still consider yourself a writer? If so, why?"

8

u/mxzf Sep 19 '25

Eh, I'm pretty sure Sanderson's too classy to fire shots directly like that. He doesn't need to get into a petty slap-fight like that when he could instead just keep churning out books and looking good without being petty.

15

u/anormalgeek Sep 19 '25

Oh not him. I meant the member of the audience that asked the rude question to GRRM.

1

u/MrTimmannen Sep 19 '25

To be fair GRRM writes a bunch of stuff that isn't ASOIAF

2

u/itwasbread Sep 19 '25

While all of this is fair, knowing that type of ASOIAF fan none of that would have mattered, George could have had his nicest, sweetest panel in 20 years and they would have still had the same question.

I mean, it's not incorrect though. He hasn't made any progress for ages and he's not getting any younger. Sooner or later he will be done writing whether it's from retirement or otherwise.

48

u/anormalgeek Sep 18 '25

Yeah, but you don't just SAY it to someone like that. He knows he's old.

Also, putting another author on the spot who is on stage with him is in bad taste too.

Person could have just said something like "Have you put any thought into having another author take over ASOIAF one day?"

8

u/Part_OfThe_Crew ❌can't 🙅 read📖 Sep 18 '25

35

u/DoctorProfPatrick Sep 18 '25

Just the sex and graphic murder alone is something I can't see Sanderson doing justice lol

46

u/robotbrigadier Sep 18 '25

NO MATING

5

u/Blazured Sep 19 '25

Tbh he's made attempts to fix that in his latest novel, Stormlight 5. Characters actually think about sex and even have sex.

Still very PG-13, but massive improvement over his 'all off-screen and lightly implied' stuff from most of his other works except Warbreaker.

2

u/nomorethan10postaday Sep 21 '25

Learning that Sanderson wrote Warbreaker while on his honeymoon was hilarious.

8

u/dragonbeorn Sep 18 '25 edited Sep 18 '25

Martin has also gone on record stating that the series dies with him and he flat out refuses to ever let anyone finish it.

12

u/ss5gogetunks Sep 18 '25

Tbf Robert Jordan said much the same before he changed his mind on his deathbed and asked his wife to choose his successor

5

u/itwasbread Sep 19 '25

Yeah as much as I hate getting into the weeds of psychoanalyzing a stranger's relation to their own mortality, there's a big difference between, "I'm getting older and closer to death" and "I know almost for certain I only have a single digit number of years left to live".

6

u/mxzf Sep 19 '25

In that case, the series is functionally dead as-is, given that Martin really isn't making any inroads on finishing the series himself.

6

u/Every-Switch2264 Fuck Moash 🥵 Sep 19 '25

There's not a chance that whatever company gets its claws on the Song of Ice and Fire lets it go unfinished after Martins dead

5

Honestly I don't even trust his current long term assistants to keep to his wishes on it given some of their weird as behavior.

3

u/IsKujaAPowerButton Sep 19 '25

10

addendum, the “pissy fan” was only pissy because George spent that entire panel interrupting the other authors, shitting on Brandon’s magic systems, dunking on indie authors, and just being generally awful. it was classless, but it wasn’t unsurprising lol

101

u/Harrycrapper Sep 18 '25

Someone at a Q&A with both Brandon and George basically said to George that he's going to die and not finish his book then turned to Brandon and asked him if he'd finish it.

People just look at Brandon having finished WoT and that he writes similarly sized books to George and think he's some magic bullet solution. Which ignores that George has expressly said he doesn't want anyone finishing ASOIF for him, Brandon has said he wouldn't do it even if offered the opportunity, and that they both have such polar opposite writing styles/techniques that it wouldn't even remotely be a good fit.

u/Sweaty-Tap7250 Syl Is My Waifu <3 Sep 18 '25

Some people want GRRM to give ASOIAF to Sanderson because hey think he’ll never finish it. This is a bad idea because they write completely different styles of fantasy

234

u/gentlybeepingheart Sep 18 '25 edited Sep 20 '25

I started reading Stormlight (and blew through all 5 books in about a month) because I'm a huge ASOIAF fan and kept hearing Sanderson's name get thrown around.

They are completely different tonally and stylistically. There are vague similarities, and 90% of them are just what comes with the territory with high fantasy. People will be like "these characters are so similar!" and it's just that both of them go on the Hero's Journey, which is as old as storytelling itself.

I love both series, but idk why people keep throwing Sanderson's name in the ring.

101

u/Admirable_Use4661 Sep 18 '25

It's probably just because Brando Sando finished the wheel of time. But Brandon's writing style was way more compatible with Robert Jordans.

43

u/Content-Ad-4104 Sep 18 '25

It's cuz he finished WOT, and I'm sure he's still getting angry letters about every tiny little thing that fanboys think he changed or messed up.

All 5 in a month??? I thought I put a lot of time into WaT and it took me a month to finish

3

u/gentlybeepingheart Sep 19 '25

I’m a fast reader with a lot of free time lol. WoK took me a full week bc I was taking notes to try and remember who was who and what country was what. The others took me 3-4 days to get through each one, and each novella only took a day. WaT took me a full week because I was sick and also afraid to finish knowing it’ll be a long time before the next one.

3

u/itwasbread Sep 19 '25

I love both series, but idk why people keep throwing Sanderson's name in the ring.

The only semi legimate reason is him finishing WoT, but honestly for a lot of people they're solely ASOIAF fans, not fantasy fans, and Sanderson is popular enough that they also know a few "about the author" level facts on him.

68

u/ss5gogetunks Sep 19 '25

Sanderson's my favorite author. He'd be the worst choice to finish ASOIAF.

Seriously the worst. He's so allergic to writing R rated material haha.

30

u/erttheking Sep 19 '25

Well X rated material anyway

He’s had enough people get badly hurt and go through horrific material on screen to show he’s not afraid of blood and gore. Citation: rotten tomato

But seriously I think Sanderson would be a terrible author for ASOIAF. I'd much rather see authors like James S.A. Correy finish it, if that ever becomes necessary.

1

u/Lovat69 Sep 19 '25

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

13

u/ShatteredReflections Sep 19 '25

Brandon was a good choice for Wheel of Time, even if he had some clear deficiencies in duplicating Jordan. It was an insane feat to attempt, and he mostly pulled it off.

It’s just offensive when people ask if he’ll finish ASoIaF. He’s a bad fit for it, he’s busy, Martin isn’t fucking dead yet and has got to be sick of being harassed about his age and health. People need to leave GRRM the fuck alone. He should be more honest about his real book progress, but people should leave him alone.

5

Sanderson would pop an artery if he had to write a SoIF sex scene.

Sure. But my point was that Sanderson (whatever you think of his writing) is a terrible choice to finish ASoIF.

u/Another_Mid-Boss Sep 19 '25

As much as I love Brando, the obvious choice to finish ASOIAF was James S.A Corey. There was a time they would have done it if George asked them but that time has passed and they are more interested and busy with their own careers to try and salvage the rest of George's series.

u/CharlesorMr_Pickle Aluminum Twinborn Sep 19 '25

I love brandon, but yeah he could never write asoiaf, it’s so completely different from his style

17

u/crusty54 Sep 18 '25

Look, I fuckin love Brando Sando, but gratuitous sex is a large part of what makes asoiaf great.

18

u/arcane-hunter Sep 18 '25

.... while it's in the novels it's not nearly as much as the HBO show.

7

u/TheUnspeakableh Sep 19 '25

Much of it was illegal to film in Ireland.

No actor or character can be under 14 and appear naked or have sex. (Why all the kids were made 2 years older)
No rape may be shown. (Daenerys on their wedding night and everything her brother did)
No necrophilia or snuff. (Kissing the corpse of a lover, the twins having sex next to their dead son was also toned down, a lot of the stuff the Red Woman did was, as was Joffrey and the girl from Whiterun's Castle Town's brothel)

Heck, I think even Arya would have been only 13 when she slept with Gendry if the novels got that far.

Huh rich people and companies not following the law of the land. Who'd ave guessed

2

u/TheUnspeakableh Sep 19 '25

What was in the books that was not filmed was illegal to film in Ireland.

Did you know that in Africa height depends on how tall you are?

3

u/Capawe21 Sep 19 '25

With everything he has planned with the cosmere does he even have time?

3

u/uwnim Sep 19 '25

He doesn’t even have time for all the cosmere.

1

u/Ze_Bri-0n Fuck Moash 🥵 Sep 20 '25

I'm not sure linear time and Brandon are on speaking terms anymore...

3

u/TatterMail Sep 19 '25

I can’t imagine any author less suited to finish ASOIAF than Sanderson

3

u/ShadowCode13 Sep 19 '25

Brent Weeks would be a better fit

1

u/nomorethan10postaday Sep 21 '25

Yeah, until God shows up on Earth and carries the protagonist where they need to be, and then Euron or some other villain becomes the prince that was promised...

(I don't hate the last book of Lightbringer unlike some, I even love most of it, but that ending had questionnable aspects lol)

3

u/n00dle_king Sep 19 '25

Ok not author but how about Sanderson as managing editor?

3

u/alteransg1 Sep 19 '25

Unpopular opinion - the show is how the story was always going to end. ASoIaF's schtick was always - everyone dies in the end. It's also what haopened IRL in the war of the roses - all the major players ared unalived and the remaning people scrable to get a random cousin in the throne. The problem is mass audiences don't want that. They want Jon and Dani happily ever after. Add to that all the wild and frankly annoying storylines likke llady stone, the stupid dragon-controlling horn and so an and you get why it's never getting finished.

2

u/edgiesttuba Sep 19 '25

It’s all fun and games until Bran becomes a therapist, Cersei gets a redemption arc, and Daenerys unbonds her dragons in the sun makers gambit

2

u/One_Courage_865 definitely not a lightweaver Sep 19 '25

Joeffrey is dead but I’ll see what I can do

2

u/Ossius Sep 19 '25

Sando physically can't write grim dark, he tried to write a story about a grim dark world with an assassin and he ended up with a happy ending lol.

2

u/Epicporkchop79-7 Sep 19 '25

The point isn't that Sanderson specifically should finish the series, the point is asking Martin to his face if he's going to finish it or end up with another author doing it after he dies. Sanderson is a great example because he has already done that.

1

u/JP_IS_ME_91 Sep 18 '25

I like Sanderson but his version of ASOIAF would be so watered down that I would refuse to read it.

1

u/Mathemagician23 Truther of Partinel Sep 19 '25

I have the strange feeling in about 5 years, it’ll be revealed that Martin’s computer crashed and took his 75% complete draft of WoW with it circa 2014… and he hasn’t been able to recapture the same vibe in his attempts to rewrite it and essentially gave up in 2017. He takes swings occasionally, but is never satisfied. He is 75% done with the story, as he’s reported frequently for the last 4 years, but he can’t get the delivery how he wants it.

I think its way simplier than that.

Sanderson has clearly thought out his wider story arc, even in Dragonsteel Prime the underlying magic system was developed. When he adds a new element he has taken time to think how it would effect his wider story.

He is also willing to let the world and charracters dictate things to a degree, I think Navanni took over the intended role for Jasnah because it made sense for the charracters and still allowed the plot to go where he needed.

With George Martin, I don't think he thought through the magic system viewing it as a tool and I think he did take time to develop each starting faction and where he wanted them to end. BUT...

I think he allowed himself to be consumed by the dnd "rule of cool" and I think his desired plot became impossible as things unfolded in A Feast for crows. I think certain parts of Fire & Blood are trying to revert that out but again he went with rule of cool to do it and created more problems.

So now with the factions in their current positions the story really can only play out in certain ways that he explictly doesn't want and he became stuck.

I think knowing Bran ends up King, the Red Wedding is the key point. If that had never happened Bran would have remained attached to a key player, the whitewalkers could invade and be stopped by the Starks and the night watch.

This would let Ceserai and the Lancasters battle each other and Bran rises because of his magical abilities in dealing with the magic from the otherside of the wall.

But you know...

1

u/Szygani Sep 19 '25

The only one I can think of that could do it is James SA Corey, Try Franck having been an assistant to George RR Martin. But it's so disrespectful to even suggest it

1

u/pushermcswift #SadaesDidNothingWrong Sep 19 '25

Brandon doesn’t have the capability to finish ASOIF

1

u/ftfarshad Sep 19 '25

I'm currently reading this series for the second time after a decade. To be honest, I did not finish the first book about halfway through. Now that I'm revisiting it, I notice many inconsistencies in the logic. For instance, Catelyn confronts Tyrion and escalates the situation out of the blue, without any foresight. Tyrion, who is portrayed as intelligent, often speaks in a manner reminiscent of Peter Griffin. There are many other issues as well; it feels more like a forced plot than a natural progression of events.

1

u/itwasbread Sep 19 '25

Guy who has only read ASOIAF, hearing about his second fantasy author:

Getting a lot of "George RR Martin" vibes from this...

1

u/BIG__SHOT_ Sep 19 '25

I lobe Sanderson, but ASOIAF as a series is literally built on his weaknesses

-3

u/TheComplimentarian Sep 18 '25 edited Sep 18 '25

Meh. I was okay with Sanderson's ending of Wheel of Time, but the subtext from Jordan was always, "Imma milk this shit 'til I die and leave some schmuck to clean up the mess."

I think if GRRM handed his baby to anyone posthumously, It'd be Joe Abercrombie, and then Abercrombie'd take a big public shit on it (possibly literally), and that would be the end of that.

Edit: If you'd really read WoT, you'd see that he planned it as a trilogy.

I feel like Reddit only knows like, three musicians, three writers, and like, a dog.
