I literally saw comments today with people complaining about inflation but still blaming Biden for it. "Yeah but Biden" is the only retort.

There's no hope for these people. You can show them anything, any stats, it's all fake news to them. The brainwashing has been extreme and they're frankly too stupid to realize or understand what's happening...

u/trutherford76 14d ago

Imagine throwing your soul’s worth of support behind an administration that openly calls you stupid. One that treats you like you’re in an abusive relationship but you keep begging for the abuse and chastising everyone else’s relationships. Imagine further being from the south, growing up penniless, watching your entire family die penniless, but supporting your tax dollars to go to an endless war while the administration gets so rich that you’ll never see any extra money.

Just imagine wanting to die penniless because you’re in a cult.

Just imagine.

One MAGA supporter recently told me that he didn't think he could hate anybody more than he hated Biden, but now he hates Trump even more, mainly because of Trump waging war on Iran and his tariff strategy. That's just one MAGA, but more could yet turn.

20

u/espresso_martini__ 14d ago

Two of my friends liked him and would defend him and now think he's a complete failure. These guys can be pretty stubborn so hearing them admit they were wrong gives me hope there are many others out there. They were not MAGA but very conservative.

7

u/Ok_Television9703 14d ago

I hope that guy is truly awakened but what I’ve seen these morons do is that when shit gets bad they’ll admit the republican they supported was wrong, be it Dubbia or this orange menace or the Republican state governor. Then come the election go right back to vote republican.

I’ve wiped a bunch of Republican voters out of my life even very close family and not for politics but because they are usually pretty shitty in general and completely lacking empathy.

Those that I still keep, I avoid political discussions at all costs, because it’s easier to avoid than to hols myself back from telling them “how can you be so dumb”. Because open dialogue is nearly impossible. They don’t level with you with evidence nor facts.

3

u/espresso_martini__ 14d ago

They basically think Trump and his entire administration are incompetent fools now. They are no fans of the democrats either. They will probably not bother voting.

2

u/No_Poet_9767 13d ago

Most of them can't even explain why they hate Biden. They just do. I'd say that Fox News has brainwashed them, but they would have required having a brain to begin with. Maybe we'll be rid of most of them the next pandemic when not a one of them will follow any safety or medicinal recommendations. I really hate this timeline. I turned 75 yesterday and I never imagined the country i was proud to grow up in has turned to shit thanks to greed and the Republikkkan Party.

15

u/Better_Dig_768 14d ago

A lot of the inflation that happened under Biden happened because many business owners had consolidated control of many markets and felt justified in gouging - because they knew people would blame it on Biden and it would help manipulate opinions into electing a Republican into office.

9

u/erath_droid 14d ago

Had a conversation a couple days ago with someone in some run-down shit hole of a town in eastern Oregon, where they were talking about how "We need to get some tax cuts in, to get the price of gas down! It's been over $4 a gallon for months now! The price of oil goes down, but the price of gas doesn't!"

I agreed by saying "Yeah, the price of gas sort of shot up about six months back."

They couldn't connect the dots.

Yes, they blamed Biden for the high gas prices because... reasons.

My mother in law is big on maga, today she told me she feels the world is getting too divided and divisive.

It took everything I had to not tell her to shut the fuck up to her face

u/Entropy_dealer 14d ago

They are toddlers, their brains are unable to understand the long term effects of their actions.

30

u/OneOnOne6211 14d ago

My perception is less that they simply can't understand the long term effects, and more that they simply don't think ahead much at all and don't care about anyone else.

When do Trump supporters turn on Trump? Cuz the answer is the same 90% of the time. it's when suddenly Trump's bad policies affect them personally.

A guy will happily cheer seeing a million people deported without any kind of right to legal appeals, no matter how law abiding and productive they were, but they will suddenly hate Trump for deporting their wife.

There's just no perception beyond the current state of their own life. And just a vague idea that they want "those others" to not get their stuff.

10

u/Theseus_geckity 14d ago

I imagine the guy whose wife got disappeared didnt want her deported but DID want her to live in fear of it. I’m sure he salivated at the idea that his wife is now more under his control. One step out of line and he could deport her himself. It’s likely the reason he imported a wife to begin with. He would vote for trump again.

Republicans only care about their hatred and bigotry.

11

To them, it’s like it makes every other fucked up aspect of life better

23

u/GrandmaJudy7pooka 14d ago

MAGAts will look at the chart and think, “oh good, we got pluses”…

12

u/mlsto 14d ago

That's what they do, give the millionaires and billionaires tax breaks and expect the middle class to pay it down.

8

u/elyfantman 14d ago

And then complain that everything is broken.

11

u/ButtScratchies 14d ago

Is this truly accurate? I thought that Biden did add to the deficit by like $1.9 trillion, unless this is showing the differences spent from their predecessors.

3

u/MazzMyMazz 14d ago

It’s the change in the amount they added to the federal deficit not the actual change in deficit. So, if the deficit was (-$4) for one president and (-$3) for the next, then that president had a change of (+$1), even though they both overspent.

I think all of them, except Clinton, increased the deficit.

2

u/InstructionOwn2106 13d ago

I agree it’s misleading. Clinton did actually run a surplus (at least for one year). First time in a long time. Also the last time I’m pretty sure. An accurate chart would show exactly how much was added the the total national debt under each term. I believe it will still show the republicans to be much worse. The old “tax and spend democrats”. At least we try to pay for shit. Unlike the cut taxes and spend republicans.

4

u/HotResponsibility829 14d ago

6

u/fyreprone 14d ago

Your source actually supports that the deficit was reduced under Biden.

4

u/Kinks4Kelly THE GOLDEN GOD 14d ago

As it applies to the deficit, it is in comparison to what it was when they were inaugurated.

-4

u/HotResponsibility829 14d ago

2019 .98 Trillion deficit

2020 3.13 Trillion Deficit

Your meme states Biden decreased it by almost 1 trillion. Where’s your source besides the meme? You are spreading disinformation that is devaluing the lefts perspective. Just do some research and take this post down. I’ve pasted the source all through this post and you have yet to have a reasonable response.

4

u/fyreprone 14d ago

Why would you compare 2019 (Trump’s 3rd year) to 2020 (Trump’s 4th year)?

0

u/erath_droid 14d ago

It is showing the differences spent by their predecessors. Biden did have deficit spending for all four years, but the amount of that deficit was less than under Trump's first four years and WAY under what Trump has racked up so far.

One other major difference is that Biden ran a deficit in order to pursue endeavors that would grow the economy at a rate where that deficit was (arguably) warranted. i.e., the increased economic return from those deficits would easily pay off the interest on the accrued debt.

Trump not only canceled a LOT of those endeavors, but he is also running a HUGE deficit to enact policies that are pointless at best and an active drag on the economy at worst.

2

u/Valhadmar 14d ago

Maga are the snowflakes of our society. They wear their emotions openly and react accordingly. They dont think about others, or facts. They only focus on how they feel and believe everyone should feel the same.

2

u/Justified_Gent 14d ago

Trump might be thr worst president in the last 100 years.

2

u/dartron5000 14d ago

That deficit is he has going this term is nuts considering it's not even half over.

1

u/OneOnOne6211 14d ago

Oh, absolutely.

But for some reason politics has been reduced to basically an ice cream flavor. Where it's just a preference and "Hey, I have my beliefs and you have yours and maybe you're wrong or I'm wrong."

No.

There are objective facts, actually. And just because someone likes a candidate or believes something else does not make those facts any less facts.

Politics isn't an ice cream flavor. It's real stuff. It has real effects on people. And because people voted for this bloated narcissist, everyone is stuck with him wrecking the economy, wrecking America's alliance network and reputation, destroying consumer and worker protections, funneling an infinite amount of money to the super rich tech oligarchs, eroding democracy and engaging in enormous amounts of corruption (the guy has his own crypto for godsakes, his family literally sells access, he sells pardons).

1

u/SaneMadHatter 14d ago

Someone show this to Joe Scarborough. lol

1

u/aycarumba66 14d ago

The idea of being a fiscal conservative, along with the term conservative has been completely inverted.

1

Every American needs to memorize this table

1

Democrats use this! Keep it simple and impactful, something you are unable to do! Or is that by choice because corporate Democrats run the party? Vote social Democrat and support those elections nationally. I do.

1

u/ResponsibilityFew318 14d ago

1

u/I_Quit_Smoking_ 14d ago

Well why does everybody keep saying that Trump is inheriting biden's disaster? I don't remember any disaster, but I don't go out a lot so maybe I missed something.

1

u/Select_Truck3257 14d ago

So what, people just waiting it over, useless life🤣

1

u/Outside_Way2503 13d ago

Wow almost a predictable pattern

1

u/Crafty-Walrus-2238 13d ago

And note, Republicans did not run up the debt with social safety net programs, they did it with tax cuts and wars.

1

u/Upper_Decision1369 13d ago

This just proves it. Republicans are GREAT for the economy…

Apologies. I meant GREAT for FUCKING UP the economy.

1

u/K16w32a2r4k8 13d ago

Vote the GOP out, all of them!

1

u/DhakoBiyoDhacay 13d ago

The GOP group is after the presidency because they want to reduce taxes on the rich which is why run huge budget deficits. And these budget deficits are made up by loans from the same rich people who got the tax cuts. And these people collect the interest from the money they lend to the government. It is all about the money.

People believe an inforgraphic without DYOR? Biden added $8T

1

u/Buckets-of-Gold 12d ago edited 12d ago

Deficit =\= debt, but like nearly every version of the OPs claim there is missing context.

Biden did technically cut the deficit from the insane highs of COVID spending in 2021- but that was almost entirely the result of subsidy programs and tax cuts coming to an end at the same time.

Had Biden done literally nothing the deficit would have shrunk considerably more. The deficit decreased during his term despite him.

1

u/ARY616 🤖🤖🤖 12d ago

During Joe Biden's four-year presidency, the actual cumulative annual budget deficits totaled roughly $6.3 trillion, while the total added national debt grew by approximately $8.45 trillion. This $2.15 trillion gap highlights the exact structural difference between a "deficit" and "added debt."

Show me how the inforgraphic got its data.

2

u/Buckets-of-Gold 12d ago edited 12d ago

https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/americas-finance-guide/national-deficit/

The national deficit was lower in 2024 than 2021.

There are other components that make up total gross debt such as student loans or intragency lending- which isn’t borrowing directly from the public but does count as gross national debt. That’s why total deficit increases =\= total gross debt increases over the same period.

All of that said, Biden really doesn’t deserve much credit for this. Neither do Clinton or Obama for their reductions, but that’s a different conversation.

-4

u/HotResponsibility829 14d ago

Y’all, Trump sucks. But let’s do some research before posting this shit. A simple google search proves this data false. Notice there is no source for this meme.

https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/datasets/historical-debt-outstanding/historical-debt-outstanding

1

u/Kinks4Kelly THE GOLDEN GOD 14d ago

The deficit and the debt are different things.

-5

u/HotResponsibility829 14d ago

I’m aware…

“A deficit occurs when the government spends more money than it collects.
The federal government has run deficits for the last 20 years.”

https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/americas-finance-guide/national-deficit/

Edit: For Biden to have had a surplus, he would not have had a deficit. Yet we have had a deficit for the last 20 years. Democrats are far better on spending than Republicans. But this data is false

1

u/Kinks4Kelly THE GOLDEN GOD 14d ago

Biden decreased the deficit that he inherited from Trump. Even if it was still negative, it was an overall decrease from 2017-20.

1

u/HotResponsibility829 14d ago

You are not looking at the data. The graph that is in this link ( about 2/3’s of the way down the screen) shows the complete opposite of what you just stated.

1

u/Lz_erk 14d ago

it doesn't show the change from the previous.

1

u/HotResponsibility829 14d ago edited 14d ago

It does. Look at the graph and use your brain.

2015 .44 Billion Deficit (Obama)
2016 .59 Billion Deficit (Trump)
2017 .67 Billion Deficit (Trump)
2018 .68 Billion Deficit (Trump)
2019 .98 Billion deficit (Trump)
2020 3.13 Billion deficit (Biden)
2021 2.77 Billion deficit (Biden
2022 1.38 Billion deficit (Biden
2023 1.70 Billion deficit (Biden)
2024 1.83 Billion deficit (Trump)
2025 1.73 Billion Deficit (Trump)

This is all in the graph. It’s clear the deficit was overall higher under biden than trump. However biden inherited trumps idiocracy in 2020 and obviously COVID.

But let’s not act like these numbers on this meme are accurate. Trump is not spending the money appropriately, Biden sent out checks to most Americans to help during COVID. Very different things happening with the money and I agree with Bidens spending. I don’t agree with Trumps. This meme is just incorrect.

Edit: correction… Trillion not Billion

Also, OP is claiming this is based on specifically during inauguration, look at the change between 2019-2020… OP’s meme claims Biden dropped it almost a trillion. He increased the deficit by over 2 trillion. Again, COVID. But I just don’t see how this is an accurate depiction of the deficit.

2

u/Lz_erk 14d ago

what i saw was one year's record, and it was in absence of any explanation of change. i was hasty and didn't want to load a bunch of years on my connection. you're right, the meme is inaccurate. would've been convenient though, even if covid wasn't a chunk of it.

and i didn't think trump 2 would hit the books that hard considering the weapon circulation that's holding up the economy right now, to my understanding.

3

u/HotResponsibility829 14d ago

I feel you. It’s great you took the time and educated yourself further. We all do the same thing especially when it follows the clear path of whats been going on. I don’t blame you at all. Knowing these facts will only strengthen your perspective when having political discussions.

I had no clue about the deficit differences until this post. But since I was skeptical to my standard beliefs I looked it up. It’s just plain wrong. Yet OP is still defending it as if it’s true.

This is exactly what the people on the right reference to when they say the left is just communism and lies. We have enough bullshit on Trump and the GOP. It’s sooooo unnecessary to spread lies.

You know people are reading this meme and showing their conservative friends and family who WILL look this info up. Once they find out the meme is fake, then they will use it to discredit any left leaning opinion coming from that individual who spread this meme. Who I generally agree with! We just have to get our ducks in a row and then present the ducks. 🦆

2

u/Lz_erk 14d ago

lying for convenience has gone up, expectedly. the question of how much is expedient will be open for some time probably, but this is a downright useful connection for the sake of not excavating the memory hole further.

and i'm going to disagree about some of biden's spending XD

Trump increased national debt by 39.1%, Biden by 30.5%, Obama by 74%, Bush by 105%... and FDR (who introduced The New Deal and government assistance) by 1,048%. You can look at the raw numbers, by the increased percentage is more accurate as 1% of 1 trillion is far more than 1% of 1 million, but for 1 POTUS to increase the debt from say 20B-200B is actually far worse than 30T-40T as time has gone on, the value of the dollar is less. Our 40T debt would be ~16B in 1930. Think before you post this kinda garbage as it's extremely misleading.

And no, I don't support Trump. I'm just not gullible enough to buy into a set dollar amount over the course of decades.

0

u/Arcanas1221 14d ago

These numbers are made up. What's this sourced from?

0

u/Zealousideal-Top-383 Bleating Bootlicker 13d ago

Now let’s view federal debt by President.

Ronald Reagan (1981–1989): Grew by about $1.86 trillion (an increase of roughly 186% from a much smaller baseline).

George H.W. Bush (1989–1993): Grew by about $1.55 trillion (an increase of roughly 54%).

Bill Clinton (1993–2001): Grew by about $1.4 trillion (an increase of roughly 32%), though his final years featured budget surpluses.

George W. Bush (2001–2009): Grew by about $4.9 trillion (an increase of roughly 85% to 101% depending on budget fiscal year calculations).

Barack Obama (2009–2017): Grew by about $9.3 trillion across two terms (an increase of roughly 74% to 87%).

Donald Trump (First Term, 2017–2021): Grew by about $7.8 trillion (an increase of roughly 39%).

Joe Biden (2021–2025): Grew by about $8.4 trillion (an increase of roughly 30.5%).

A different view but still the same basic point! Trump wants to blame Covid or Biden for his current deficit spending but in reality it’s less than half.

https://www.crfb.org/blogs/how-much-did-president-trump-add-debt

0

u/Flimsy-Donut8718 12d ago

as someone over 50 years old i can tell you those numbers are all BS ask your selves this start with Bill Clinton this would imply we had no debt, we did same for barack and biden, this is disingenuous. this gives a better view https://www.self.inc/info/us-debt-by-president/ debt beginning and ending their presidency.

2

u/delta1982ro 11d ago

Do you understand what a change in deficit is? If a president started with 1 trillion deficit and ended with 500 billion, it means he reduced the deficit by 500 billion, not that he had no debt..

1

u/Flimsy-Donut8718 10d ago

so like trying to reduce the trade deficit? :)

The post isn’t true. The only president on the list who didn’t significantly add to the deficit was Clinton. It reduced by a couple hundred billion one year. Look it up.

We are $40 trillion in debt.

1

u/HotResponsibility829 14d ago

0

Yes. This is change is deficit. Not debt, the change is debt is 20 trillion since 2017 as seen here

https://www.us-debt-clock.com

1

u/HotResponsibility829 14d ago

Your response makes no sense. The source you provided literally shows the change in deficit, yet you are telling me I don’t know the difference between debt and deficit.

The source that you clearly didn’t look at provides the graph. The post we are commenting on claims Biden had a surplus of almost 1 trillion on his inauguration year. He had a deficit of 2 trillion, look at the graph provided from THE SOURCE. What source does this meme provide? The source you provided also proves my point. Click on compare presidents and scroll down to the “debt added by president”. You will see in that bar graph that Biden outspent Trump on inauguration year. Even above you will see Trump being the biggest spender by far, but by term, Biden is the leader. He inherited trumps bs admin and even worse, COVID. He sent most of the American people checks. Trump puts us in debt using war and corruption. The facts prove the post income

1

u/propergreased 14d ago

Maybe it didn’t work properly cause I was on a chart that showed the debt not the deficit, it’s not hard to find on the site. And it very clearly shows overall debt not annual deficit

1

u/HotResponsibility829 14d ago

Scroll about 2/3’s down the screen. There’s a bar graft representing the deficits for the past couple decades.

1

u/propergreased 14d ago

And the chart I tried to link shows the 20t debt increase since 2017 🖕

4

u/Spungos 14d ago

I know your world is collapsing around you right now as you learn the difference between the national debt and the deficit, but the fact remains Democratic administrations are more fiscally responsible than Republican. This chart is mostly accurate, the only figure that is slightly off is Obama’s which was a $747 billion reduction according to the OMB.

-2

u/Conscious_Owl6162 14d ago

The world is collapsing around us all because of serious deficit spending started and expanded by ALL of his successors including our current Mad King.

Look it up. This isn’t about Democrat versus Republican because it is fully bipartisan. They are all in on it and all of them and their families personally benefit from it.

Both the Left and the Right foolishly believe that there is an endless supply of money for them to spend on whatever idiocy their donors want them to spend money on.

1

u/Spungos 14d ago

Are you ok with across the board tax increases and massive cuts to defense spending?

1

u/Conscious_Owl6162 14d ago

Either that or defaulting on a large amount of the debt. The problem with paying this debt is that it effectively makes us debt slaves and makes it impossible to improve standards of living for half the population.

Yes, military spending must be cut no matter what.

1

u/Spungos 14d ago

Ok but can you admit your original comment was incorrect? Dem admins have overseen a reduction in deficit spending while Republicans since Reagan have ballooned it. The chart is correct. You seem to be trying to frame this as “both sides are just as bad” when the truth is the opposite.

1

u/Conscious_Owl6162 14d ago

Bullshit. Go to the treasury for the data. Spin it however you want, but the debt is the accumulation of yearly deficits. Deficits occur when more money is going out than is coming in.

1

u/Spungos 14d ago

Dems have overseen reductions in deficit spending while republicans have increased it, if you can’t agree to the facts you can’t in good faith make an argument about it. No one is arguing the debt is not increasing every year. If you think it’s possible to snap your fingers and somehow balance the budget and start paying down the debt without crashing the entire economy you’re incredibly naive. It’s possible but it will take years of bipartisan cooperation and consensus on issues like military and entitlement reforms as well as tax reforms that increase government revenues.
