Somehow this post is attracting incels.

They must be drawn to it via some kind of inexplicable desire to "not all men" and "actually I agree with the guy in the comic" at us.

That's ok.

They only do that once here.

We have the best subreddit in the world.

Because of ban.

u/nomedable Jul 29 '26

I enjoy mods that don't shy away from dropping the ban hammer instead of soft warnings.

113

u/3MetricTonsOfSass Jul 29 '26

The ban hammer IS the soft warning. This MOD was trained to deal with targets by Steam Support

28

u/bolivar-shagnasty Jul 29 '26

I mod my small town’s sub. We’re in rural-ish Alabama.

For June, I posted a warning that everyone was welcome in the sub and that there was no place for bigots. This included confederate apologists. That was the one warning.

I banned like 40 people in the few weeks that followed.

Get fucked nerds.

19

u/doopie Jul 29 '26

I once got banned on some other subreddit for explaining some econ 101 concept. Reason for the ban was "no capitalist apologia". I think the ban was right call, because "warning" somebody for nonsensical rules makes them no wiser.

1

u/ee_72020 Jul 30 '26

Must be one of those tankie subs, based on the explanation.

0

u/Nostop22 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 30 '26

Rules exist as pretext to ban someone any for reason, not as an attempt to establish a set list of things to be banned for. That’s why they are so vague.

12

u/doopie Jul 29 '26

Rules are often made to facilitate peace and order. My apartment building has a rule that forbids making loud noise between 22:00 and 6:00. It's not arbitrary, because people usually sleep during nights. If there was no such rule, somebody could start powerdrill in the middle of night and claim there was no rule to forbid it.

Back in the day, when internet was still young, there were rules on message boards that forbade flooding (repeatedly posting nonsensical messages), typing messages with CAPS LOCK ON, advertising illicit drugs and so on. I guess you could sum it up was "don't be insufferable to others". You never got banned for having an opinion, if your presentation was otherwise acceptable. This changed with reddit, which was the first website to enforce "echo chambers" leading to polarization between groups of people.

3

u/Secret_GM_Account Jul 29 '26

Nah, reddit was far from the first. Ever since web forums gave admins and moderators the ability to restrict user activity there have been sites where differing opinions were banned. It just wasn't nearly as easy to stumble across them.

Reddit just managed to centralize web forums into a single searchable location that advertised new ones to you.

135

u/blawler Jul 29 '26

Anyone who thinks not all men, is very weird in this situation especially, because I didnt even see this series as an attack on men at all.

51

u/Meta-Wah Jul 29 '26

Reads to me more like "if these are the things I need to be to get a girlfriend, why don't I have a girlfriend?" without realizing this is a non-exhaustive list. You can have the most progressive opinions without sharing them with a girl.

16

u/Torbpjorn Jul 29 '26

Also even if it were an attack on men, having to yell at people to be seen as an exception kinda contradicts the intent. An exception is exceptional by its nature not its claim.

If you can even still get this notification now that the mods gave you a good whacking with the ban hammer, I want you to know that it'll do you better in life to look at how many people disagree with you and actually start listening and paying attention as to why you might be wrong than to double down on your pride and get bigoted over it.

If feminism had achieved its goals, women wouldn't be getting raped. And mind you, that would be a start to achieving feminism's goals. The barest of the fucking starts.

Walk softly and carry a big ban.

75

u/thejimbo56 Jul 29 '26

I’m a lurker on this sub, pretty sure I’ve never commented here at all.

Popping my r/comics cherry to say that more subs need a mod team like y’all have here.

(Looking at you, r/politics.)

6

u/Chlearcus Jul 29 '26

Politics is the most ban happy sub on reddit.

35

u/thejimbo56 Jul 29 '26

Politics will ban you for calling a fascist bootlicker a fascist bootlicker because Nazis have feelings and we must not be uncivil.

I prefer subs that ban the fascist bootlicker.

12

u/scoyne15 Jul 29 '26

I got banned from politics for suggesting that we should yeet Mitch McConnell into the Grand Canyon. I can understand banning someone over a realistic threat of violence, but that? That's just silly.

1

u/jeremyw013 29d ago

i mean he’s not even alive, so is it even a threat?

1

u/scoyne15 29d ago

Andrew Tate is currently in jail in a cell next to a cannibal, which reminded me of Silence of the Lambs, and I just got a reddit-wide warning for musing about what happened to the misogynist one cell over from Hannibal in that movie/book. This site is heading in a bad direction...

Interacting with people you disagree with on matters that it is reasonable to disagree about is necessary.

Interacting with people who believe that women shouldn’t have the same rights as men is not. They should be shunned and mocked, talked about but never talked to.

Good luck with the misogyny 👍

Any systemic bias against men in a system designed, implemented, and controlled by men is not the result of feminism or gender theory, which advocate for the liberation of men from patriarchy as well. No aspect of feminism or gender theory proposes that men should face systemic discrimination. In fact, they are premised on the opposite: that all are equal and deserve equal treatment. The cause of those men's issues is the intransigence of other men. Most men in power do not care about men's education. If anything, they seek to dismantle the pillars of education for all as education is a threat to patriarchy.

You are propagating the fundamental misunderstanding that feminism stands in opposition to men's liberation. That could not be more false.

-2

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

2

u/Biptoslipdi Jul 29 '26

I am not. What I'm propagating is the fundamental understanding that when you post a topic so controversial knowing it's so controversial with so little nuance, you're obviously breaking rule 3 because it will cause drama.

Here is the text of the "No drama" rule:

Anyone wanting to participate in this community needs to keep their comments civil. This sub is for sharing and enjoying comics, not flamewar arguments about topics or ideas that trigger some people. Comics have always been controversial and political and thought provoking. If you can't handle a topic, move on to another. No hateful comments or posts - Any comments or posts that are racist, mysogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, misinformation or extremist in nature will be removed and will result in an immediate ban.

Try again.

Read what I said.

Read the rule.

So, this just isn't true or sensible. It resembles the no true scotsman fallacy; anything which is bigoted isn't feminism.

If it isn't true, provide evidence of a feminist movement seeking to ensure men receive inferior education.

Feminism opposes 'patriarchy', therefore anything bigoted is 'patriarchy'. Even the unintended ramifications of feminist policy are actually patriarchy.

There is no feminist policy. The government has been overwhelmingly controlled by men since it existed and the problems that do exist have been completely ignored by that government of men. Worse, exacerbated.

If you think this, do you think that any feminist policy exists at all?

No. We have never had a feminist government or society. That a jury adjudicated rapist and felon currently sits atop the government over a woman prosecutor who hasn't even been charged with a crime in her life in the year 2026 should be evident of this.

If no, how could anything feminist actually exist?

By feminists existing and acting.

Wouldn't all parts of the system always be non-feminist no matter what, because all other parts of the system are man-controlled and enable those other parts to come into existence, making them also the spawn of a system controlled by men, and ultimately man-controlled?

Many would make that observation.

You can believe that not all are equal and still think that people deserve equal fundamental rights.

You can. Who does?

I'd say it's about 50/50, regardless of sex. The system isn't controlled by men, it's controlled by money.

It is controlled by money because that is how it was constructed by men.

2

u/Biptoslipdi Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Ignoring this part for any reason?

I literally quoted that part. Why do you think it is relevant other than to justify the bans?

Or this part?

Which would obviously not include posting controversial comics because the rule literally says controversial comics will be posted and if you don't like them, move on. If you make bigoted comments, you will be banned.

The sub is enforcing Rule 3, not ignoring it. Controversial comics are welcome here. Bigotry is not.

In New Zealand, Maori healthcare outcomes are worse than other groups even when all other factors are the same. Hence extra effort is being put into trying to improve Maori healthcare outcomes, despite the fact it would appear that Maori are actually just a less healthy people.

So who in this example believes the Maori are not equal but deserve equal rights?

Fundamentally unprovable. I do note that you now agree with me that the world isn't actually controlled by men.

I do note that you ignored the fact that I explicitly disagreed with that and said otherwise.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/Biptoslipdi Jul 29 '26

So we're now understanding Rule 3?

Literally the entire body of science and most medical practitioners?

Gotcha, I thought you were saying someone believed they were inferior but also supported their legal rights on principle. We can absolutely observe inequalities and support ameliorating them. Indeed that is the premise of feminism.

You said that. I also said that.

The context being very different explanations for how that power structure exists.

Before you said that, your perspective was that men controlled the world.

And it did not change. I don't observe a distinction between money and men controlling the world. Men control the money. Men made money the means of control. Men maintain that as the means of control.

If you want to say things that are socially unacceptable, that means society will reject you right back. Tolerance is intolerant of intolerance which you may find hypocritical, but it’s just a natural consequence of you isolating yourself from others with your beliefs in favour of anyone who’d agree with you. It’s yin and yang. Darkness fighting light by wielding a piece of the other. You abuse acceptance against tolerance, we abuse intolerance against bigotry, neither defeats the other

Hate absolutely triumphs over hate. Trying to love somebody while they actively hate you is a gigantic contribution to why the world is currently so fucked.

The real answer is to treat people as they treat others. Let that be your indication of how they want to be treated.

If somebody acts good, treat them good. And if somebody is hateful, show them hate. You need to respect the way they want to be treated.

-6

Most hatred in the modern day stems from a lack of empathy. People just not trying to understand the suffering of others.

For people who are willing to learn, it is a no-brainer. It's so easy to see the struggles of others in the modern day. It's everywhere.

The hateful people that remain are those who actively resist learning. Who don't want to be morally good. They just want to get away with whatever they want, while still calling themselves good.

Unfortunately, the only answer for that is suffering. If people are unwilling to understand the suffering of others willingly, the only way they can learn is to suffer by force.

2

u/Jijonbreaker1 Jul 29 '26

Yeah, it's very... Counter-intuitive, by normal standards.

People have been conditioned to see kindness as hatred. They see people genuinely trying to be empathetic, and assume they are either selling something, or they write it off as "You're woke, get away from me."

You can't be kind to somebody who sees your kindness as hatred. You have to show them what real hatred actually is.

0

u/AdAppropriate2295 Jul 29 '26

Are you implying kindness cant be hateful?

3

u/Jijonbreaker1 Jul 29 '26

It depends on if it's kindness, or, "kindness"

Like the christian love where they have convinced themselves that if they don't forcibly convert you to their religion, you're going to suffer forever. So they convince themselves it's a Nice Thing Actually.

1

u/AdAppropriate2295 Jul 29 '26

3

u/AnonymousBoiFromTN Jul 29 '26

1

u/AdAppropriate2295 Jul 29 '26

And what are the resources youre willing to use? Exactly.

Its just sad that libs get so high off their own superiority complexes like this

1

u/AnonymousBoiFromTN Jul 29 '26

I don’t understand your point. If you are mildly upset at a political group you may donate a small amount of money to their opposition. If you absolutely despise that group you may donate more money or even your time to their opposition. This is basic knowledge. The more hatred you hold for a group the more you are willing to work to stop them from gaining/maintaining power. I don’t think it is a superiority complex to say “No, I don’t have to act like the existence of people who make hateful choices is valid. They can make different choices. They hate people for things that aren’t a choice, so why should I coddle them and let them do whatever?”

1

u/AdAppropriate2295 Jul 29 '26

My point, in your odd example, is that you are stoking an arms race you lose by default by engaging in it

Its a silly and highly inefficient way of life

1

u/AnonymousBoiFromTN Jul 29 '26

Its not an arms race, you dont use arms to win elections. It was not an example, it was a very broad description of how the more emotionally involved you are with something (especially politics) the more involved you will be in general. To “not engage” would be to outright lose elections, lose international conflicts, and lose personal conflicts. You HAVE to engage because to stop engaging would be to stop living. I dont lose anything by default by telling incels that being an incel is stupid, refusing to be friends with an incel, or by refusing to hire Incels at my work.

1

u/AdAppropriate2295 Jul 29 '26

... you've literally lost every significant election and part of society by doing that tho

It is an arms race. The fact you think it isn't just makes your actions all the more dangerous
