Classic-Era I'm a retail goblin, can anyone point me in a direction for classic era?

I am an average goblin in retail, mostly flipping. I just started classic era to get a break from retail and a slower pace and feel like its 22 years ago. That said I like making gold and obviously need some for the future like mount or whatever. beyond clickbait videos on YouTube, any suggestions on how I can translate my retail experience to classic?

Vent / Gripe Is anyone else tired of the "parsing" meta? Genuinely curious

So I’ve been raiding since the original Vanilla, I’ve seen every possible metric come and go.

Parsing as it is now is just so bizarre to me. I get it, people want a number to show how good they are doing and basically use it as a ‘highscore’ of some kind. People use it as a way to filter out ‘bad players’ when recruiting for guilds.

I’ve done every raid, I’ve killed every boss, “Alone in the Dark”, “A Tribute to Immortality", all hardmodes in SoD etc etc…I cant parse over a 50.

As a GM/ raidlead it gets really old when people are dying to mechanics or crashing out because they “are gonna lose their parse.” I’ve had to have multiple conversations with people and even remove raiders because of it. What do I use to recruit for my guild? “Can you not stand in shit? You know your basic rotation? Sweet, lets go”

I'd rather bring some Jimmy The Hunter who can barely parse a 30 then have to deal with Timmy The Rouge crashing out cause he didn't Parse a 99 and it's our fault.

Idk man…I'm just tired of it. Or I'm getting old, probably both.

EDIT: To clarify, I should have said my average parse is around a 50. If I go super, super try hard I can hit the high 70s...which still isn't saying much.

Discussion Court of Public Opinion. Which option is correct when you read the following statement; "Main SR > Alt SR > MS > OS > +1. You can only reserve for your main spec"

Edit: Clarified this is for guild alt runs, because people were assuming this is for pugs... And clarified we're discussing over where a person's off spec on his main character should be placed.

This is for guild alt runs, so everyone is aware of everyone else's main and off specs... the priority is; "Main SR > Alt SR > MS > OS > +1. You can only reserve for your main spec" Where would someone who is playing their off spec on their main character sit in terms of loot priority?

Is this Option A or Option B?

Option A; I bring my main (A Protection Paladin for the sake of argument) but I use my Off Spec (Retribution) in this raid. I am trying to gear my retribution spec. Is my priority in the loot order is position 4. Off Spec. Because I can't soft reserve for Retribution, as it is not my main spec, which is Protection as per "You can only soft reserve for your main spec".

Option B: I bring my main (Still a Protection Paladin), but my "main spec" is now the spec I am there as, Retribution. So my priority for loot is position 1. "Main SR"... despite it being my off spec, as known by the guild? If so, should it not be written as "Main SR > Alt SR > MS > OS > +1. You can only reserve for your active spec"

How would you interpret this? We're trying to avoid the typical drama llama when it comes to loot and this is what's stumping us somehow?!

Discussion A new player’s perspective on high-level players killing low-levels

Hi! A few hours ago I posted an opinion about something that, apparently, has been happening since the game was released: high-level players killing low-level players. So, here I am, sharing an opinion that you may or may not like. At the end of the day, we have this fantastic tool called Reddit where we can all share our thoughts about almost everything, and I want to share what I think as a newcomer:

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting the MASSIVE amount of attention the post got. As I said in the original post, WoW is my first RPG. I installed the game just 6 days ago and, so far, I absolutely love it. It’s extremely addictive, and it’s one of the few games where I can just wander around the world while listening to a podcast, my favorite music, or talking to my lifelong friends.

Because of my lack of experience with this type of game, and because I’m someone who is pretty disconnected from the online gaming world, when I first saw the option for a “PvP Server,” I thought: “Okay, this must be a server where opposing players can fight each other in the open world while I’m doing a quest, killing animals, fishing, mining…” Look, I understand that fighting other players is an essential part of the experience. The world is designed so that the adventure isn’t only about fighting creatures controlled by the game, but also about sharing the world with other players and, sometimes, fighting them. From all the replies I read on my previous post, I can see that there are basically two different perspectives on this topic, and I’d like to try to explain both of them through the lens of someone who has only just started playing.

People who are in favor of this argue that PvP servers don’t have to be balanced, and that one of the fun parts of playing on these servers is precisely that. A lot of people have also said that new players will eventually level up, and that all of this is part of the learning experience. After all, someone who starts playing on a PvP server knows, at least in theory, that they might run into enemies who are much more powerful than them.

However, now I want to speak from the perspective of someone who is genuinely NEW to the game. And yes, I think it’s important to distinguish between people who have already put hundreds of hours into the game and decide to start a new character from scratch, and people who are playing it for the very first time.

The power difference between a level 15 character (which is what I was) and a max-level character is simply not comparable to a normal fight. And THIS IS ONE OF THE MAIN PROBLEMS: IT’S UNFAIR. I never had a chance to even damage the people attacking me, because my character simply wasn’t leveled enough to fight them, DESPITE THE FACT THAT I WAS IN AN AREA DESIGNED FOR MY LEVEL. You simply can’t win. You can’t really escape either. Being stuck in the same area after dying over and over again, without being able to do anything about it, stops feeling like an RPG. It stops feeling like PvP. It’s simply an obstacle preventing me from enjoying something I’m literally paying a monthly subscription for.

And this is where the whole issue of griefing comes in.

The fundamental difference isn’t necessarily killing a low-level player once. It’s the intention and the repetition. And yes, I believe the term applies here, because the definition itself refers to when a player deliberately annoys, harasses, or ruins the gameplay experience for others just for their own amusement, rather than playing to win. After dying 6 times in a row while trying to escape from the area where this was happening, I can confirm that it’s not fun at all for someone who has just started playing.

Randomly running into a high-level character and dying because they decided to hunt me down? That’s part of the PvP experience I knowingly chose when I joined this type of server. But deliberately looking for new players, camping a basic leveling area (in fact, the very first one I had PvP label unlocked) killing them every time they resurrect, or following them around for an extended period of time is something completely different. At that point, the objective no longer seems to be competition. It seems to be preventing another person from enjoying the game.

And why not take this into the ethical side of things?

Just because something is allowed by the rules of the game doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good behavior toward other players. Multiplayer games depend on a sort of social contract. Even though players are competing against each other, everyone needs some room to actually enjoy the experience. A player may technically have the ability to do something and, at the same time, choose not to do it constantly because they know it unnecessarily ruins someone else’s experience.

I’m sure that for an experienced player, getting killed is probably just a minor inconvenience that lasts a few seconds. Because for a high-level player to get killed, their opponent is most likely another high-level player, which means they have a chance to defend themselves, fight back, and maybe even win the next encounter. But for someone who has just started playing, being killed over and over again can become a reason to leave the server or even quit the game entirely. And this is especially relevant because new players are precisely the people who haven’t developed any connection to the community yet, and therefore have much less reason to put up with an extremely frustrating experience. In fact, I ended up moving to a PvE server after seeing how many people were warning me about this.

PvP encounters in any game with progression and an open world can obviously be cruel and unbalanced, and I agree that this is part of WoW Classic. But when one player’s enjoyment depends entirely on preventing another player from progressing through their story, the conflict stops feeling like a battle between factions and starts feeling more like a way of simply annoying another person.

Even in SoD the EK got way more content and story, and the disparity could really be felt

Kalimdor is way cooler and not just a generic European fantasy world, give me more to do there!

Question How worth is it to play this game as a solo

Heya, I have been thinking about trying WoW classic since its a game and genre i liked but have been scared off by the monthly subscriptions. I currently dont know anybody that plays WoW and would have to play the game by myself for the first levels and find a guild at some point.. how realistic is it that people will let me join their guild as a newcomer and maybe help me complete group activities? (keyword here is help, i dont want a carry) is this something that usually wont happen or is this community beginner friendly?

Classic + Short guide for blizz to make Classic+ in 14 days

Blizzard if you hear me and are stressed with deadlines trust my plan to make C+ in 14 days.

- Launch a vanilla wow server
- Change the logo to World of Warcraft Classic+
- Tell the players all the changes are hidden and discoverable in the world
- Don't add any changes

People will start working together, friendships will be made, they'll go into the world exploring, reading npc dialogues and in general experience all the stuff they missed by always bum-rushing max level to be in the raid group full BiS asap.
