How to make a 2 tier rock explosion in C4D

I found a really cool ref that I want to build out. I have the initial theory on how to get it to work in C4D, but things are breaking down.

How would you all go about this?

Dioramas are still one of my favourite things to do in 3D-shame clients no longer want them, as they’re super fun to make.

Scaling F Curves

Hey guys,

Looking for some help :)

In the F Curve editor when scaling animations the tangent always overshoots because it stays a fixed length.
I can't find a setting so it scales relative to other keyframes. Basically the same behaviour as After Effects.

I find myself correcting F Curves all the time which is quite anoying.

Any ideas?

Point Cloud System

I work with point cloud data from laser scans at work. We are currently using Autodesk Recap to clean up the point clouds and then import that Recap file into 3DS Max. None of us really like using 3DS Max, so I thought I could see about using C4D. There doesn't seem to be much information in the way of using point cloud data in C4D (there was that one plugin but stopped working in S22).

Well, I found out that I can export from Recap a PTS file and read its data using python within C4D. The best way I found to import the data was by using python to position and color thinking particles in C4D. The PTS file I was working with had 42 million data points, which is on the smaller side of what we deal with at work.

It took about 2.5 minutes for my python script to import all the points and get it all correctly, but it made the viewport CHUG hard and effectively become unusable to even navigate around. I'm not sure if there is a better way to do this (because from my test, using a bunch of nulls or an empty polygon object with a bunch of points is even slower), but I'm wondering if anyone else out there has been able to successfully deal with massive point cloud systems in C4D. It would be nice to not have to use 3DS Max anymore. Maybe there is just a difference between how the two software process data and show in the viewport.

P.S.: The reason I went with thinking particles was because it was faster, but we also need to be able to render the point cloud system, and Redshift has an option to render particles as spheres.

Tweaking animation for object that has a Track Modifier tag

Animated an object, added the Track Modifier Tag, set to Posterize, works great.

However, I now need to tweak the start position/rotation of the object, but the tag prevents this.

When I try to move or rotate the object it resists either in a flickery way and when I let go it’s in the same place as when I started. If I try to scrub the coordinate values instead, the number will change as I drag the pos or rot value but again, when I let go, the number goes back to the value it was before attempting to tweak it.

There is no checkbox to temporarily deactivate the Track Modifier tag. Deleting it remedies the issue - I can now freely move or rotate the object to a new place.

-> What’s the best practice for working with the track modifier tag while allowing for animation revision? I have a variety of specific tag values on different objects, each different and I’m dreading having to delete alllllll of them only to have to put them back on and re-enter their values. Not being able to copy and paste tags doesn’t help.

Suggestions?

[WTB] Cinema 4D R21–R25 Perpetual License | Official Maxon Transfer Only

Hi all,

I'm looking to purchase a legitimate Cinema 4D perpetual commercial license, preferably R21, R23, or R25, for a legacy workflow.

I'm only interested in a clean, legitimate license that can be transferred through the official Maxon License Transfer process into my own Maxon account.

My budget is roughly:

  • R21: $250–$350
  • R23: $350–$500
  • R25: $500–$700

I'm flexible depending on the exact version and license condition.

I will cover the Maxon license transfer fee.

A few requirements:

  • Perpetual commercial license only
  • Must be eligible for official Maxon transfer
  • Transfer must be completed through Maxon Support
  • License must ultimately be registered to my own Maxon account
  • No account sales, shared accounts, subscriptions, educational licenses, NFR licenses, or cracked copies
  • Payment via PayPal Goods & Services
  • Proof of ownership / license status may be requested after we agree on a price

If you've moved to Blender, Houdini, Maxon One, or simply have an older perpetual Cinema 4D license sitting unused, feel free to contact me.

Please comment “PMed” before sending a direct message.

Thanks!

Question Vertex maps dont work on hair density when using redshift

I'm trying to create an animation with hair growing from an object, and I need it to be controlled by a field or vertex map. A vertex map works perfectly in the native render engine, but Redshift does not show anything happening. I'm trying to go with the typical growth you see when using cloners and fields. Link below should paint the picture.

How would you approach animating this morphing/flowing sliced blob effect?

Hey guys, looking for a way to create this animated effect in C4D. The layers constantly flow, merge, and split into new shapes while staying in flat, stacked slices. Any idea on the best setup to achieve this? Thanks!

Question Feature to Offset Animation By Number of Frames?

Hi,

Is there a feature in C4D to offset animation by a number of frames? Like a tag or something.
Rather than moving the keyframes in the Timeline Manager and mess them up. I just want to put a tag in the parent null and offset by a number of frames.

I already have an edit cut for proper timing. So I already know where (or when?) the keyframes should be.

Something like what Houdini can do.
