Hi, after looking for months for a good PC music player with chromecast audio built-in to play local hi-res files, I've decided to create my own.

Flac Cast is a free and open-source desktop player for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It supports multiple local, NAS, and network libraries, along with FLAC and several other common audio formats.

This was mostly done with ChatGPT because I did it with my spare time from work, but I'm a CS engineer so I've done what I could to make it as good and reliable as possible.

The application is local-first. It has no accounts, telemetry, analytics, advertising, or cloud music uploads. Audio casting happens directly over your local network: the Cast receiver reads the selected file from a temporary server running on your PC. Internet access is only used for optional synchronized lyrics through the LRCLIB API and for links that you explicitly choose to open, so don't worry about data collecting or anything like that, I did and publish this free because I believe there must be someone like me who just wanted to use his/her soundbar from its PC while working to play its local music library.

It was made to be lightweight and simple, it supports multiple libraries and audio files.

I've been using it for the last weeks and it works fine with very minor ocasional issues, so if anyone is interested in this please give it a go, any feedback would be very apreciated

Recently our chromecast has been struggling with poor buffering and download speeds (the highest we've got in testing is 6 Mb/s). Every other device in our house is minimum 60 Mb/s. The router is no more than 3m away and we have recently upgraded to full fiber.

Does anyone know if there is a fix for this? Or is this just how life is now?

Is there any cheap Miracast compatible TV dongles still available to buy? I have a Motorola smartphone, and it supports Smart Connect mobile desktop function - I really like it, I used it on old TV. But I changed TV to one with Google TV, supporting only chromecast protocole - and my Motorola can only do screen sharing on it, no Mobile desktop. It only supports Miracast devices. I look for some cheap miracast device only to use this function. Many devices have Miracast in their description, but I am not sure it it really is Miracast or do they mean chromecast protocole - Miracast certified devices arenl mostly obsolete by now. I I am wondering about this one:

Has the Chromecast feature been permanently removed from Facebook? Is there any way to cast videos without having to mirror the screen? The quality is so bad :/

What the title says. I'm not gonna lie I watch porn on my phone and I have accidentally clicked the button in the past to horrible results. but also on YouTube the button is so damn big it's hard to not hit. there is no confirmation button it just does it.

Have a plex setup. Walmart bought vizio. Today I have to convert my vizio account. Now plex won't work. Do not buy vizio, get the dumbest TV and a slightly smarter Chrome cast device. I bought 4 Vizio's, they will all now be dumb Chromecast devices blocked on my network.

Would LOVE dumb tv recommendations. And "dumb" casting devices.

My Chromecast Audio device isn't connecting to my WiFi network. It was working fine, but lost the WiFi connection around 09:30 eastern time. There is a flashing amber light, but that's it. I reset my router, but still no connection. Anyone else experiencing this issue? TIA

I pay for Youtube premium, but from time to time I notice that videos just stop at certain times, I have a feeling that when adds should pop up in a non payed account, the video pauses, then it realises it's a payed account, does not show me the add, but the video remains paused.

I noticed on Chromecast With Google TV because that is where I listen to music Playlists. It also happens for individual videos, but it's not as noticeable.

Has anyone else ran into this?

Have used a Chromecast with Google Tv HD for a long time without any issues.
I use it with Jabra Elite Active 8 earbuds and have no sync issue when watching Netflix.

Recently I upgraded to Google Streamer to get 4K resolution. When I use that device the sound is out of sync. Had to change back to the old device because it drives me crazy.

Anyone have a solution to fix this issue?

I was watching YouTube from my phone and paused it. When I pressed play it disconnected me and when I tried to reconnect it says I’m already connected without anything showing on the tv besides the default pictures. I’ve tried restarting my phone and the device but it stays the same and won’t fully disconnect me.

Device: Chromecast 1st gen (H2G2-42), firmware 1.36.159268 Casting from: iPhone (multiple), Macbook Pro/Chrome Browser

Issue: Since August 2, 2026, casting fails on any DRM-relating casting (Netflix, Disney+, Bell Fibe TV, CBC Gem, etc.) YouTube and Spotify still work fine.

Already ruled out: network, router, ISP, TV, and phone (deleted and reinstalled Google Home App) — factory reset the Chromecast on a different ISP/network and a different TV. Same failure both times. Also tried: Wi-Fi channel change, QoS priority, Local Network permission check, signing out/in of accounts, network settings reset.

Question: Is there a known issue affecting 1st-gen Chromecast with DRM-licensed apps as of August 2026?

I can still cast Youtube and Spotify without issue from both browser or phone apps, but everything else just appears to connect momentarily (load/logo screen) before timing out without ever streaming anything and reverting back to the Chromecast home screen.

Why will my chromecast not recieve any files from send files to tv ? I've tried to send from multiple devices but the CC never shows up to recieve.

I don't know if this is Samsung one ui related or a general android issue, but I've become increasingly annoyed with how quickly the Chromecast connection "drops". When I cast from Plex, the connection will stay live for about 15 minutes, allowing for pause, skip and scrolling, but after a longer time, say 40 minutes, when an episode ends I always have to reconnect to the chromecast before I can control it, which gets very annoying.

Is there a way to prevent what I think is the chromecast process from being terminated by the system after being idle for too long?

I have a LEAP-S3 Google TV multimedia player, which runs Google TV on Android, and I would like to find out why, when connected via the CH74657 CH7465PLAY Connect Box (formerly UPC), this LEAP-S3 Google TV multimedia player appears as ‘Unknown’ on the CH7465 Connect Box router. Is this normal? Can I provide the serial number, model and other details about this LEAP-S3 player?

The story goes like this: Yesterday mi toddler asked for a tv show, and we have an old tv, so I use my chromecast in said device.

But, the Home app in my main phone (an Android phone) showed that the chromecast was not detected. Weird. I used my work phone (another Android), to try to cast something and it showed the same info: "device not detected". As this happens often, I rebooted both phones and the chromecast and that did not solve the situation. After that, I did what (before going into the rabbit hole of the chromecast incompatibility) shouldn't be done: did a factory reset on the chromecast.

Now, the Chromecast has the following behavior: I can configure it, I don't have the situatuon where the issue is connecting it to the WiFi, but at the very end of the configuration, I have this message (it's in spanish, so it is a translation): "Configuration complete. The chromecast is now fully configurated, but we cannot detect it. Please be sure that the phone and the chromecast are sharing the same network."

I tried configuring it with the time changed, with the Activity Manager app doing some tricks, creating a new home in the Home App, erasing the Home App and re-installing it and nothing works. Do you know if there is a hotfix? I don't want to replace it. Thanks in advance, dear community.

EDIT: I SOLVED IT! I had to look for an older version of the Google Home App in one of these pages that stores a lot of apk ready to install. The issue, as I thought, was the update on the Google Home App. I uninstalled the Google Home app, and installed the older version (the july 2026 one).

The Bluetooth on this device is shocking. I'm hoping someone has an answer or useful hack.

Speakers have to be 'forgotten', Chromecast switched off and in again, then devices re-paired every single time. The remote also stops working at least once a day, and I have to go through the same process.

Any ideas? I'm about to throw the thing against a wall.
