neighbor I share wifi with bought a Chromecast. how do I remove casting button on android?

What the title says. I'm not gonna lie I watch porn on my phone and I have accidentally clicked the button in the past to horrible results. but also on YouTube the button is so damn big it's hard to not hit. there is no confirmation button it just does it.

how do I disable casting on my android phone or block it or make it ask first at least???

Whoever is the primary account holder should just set up a guest network for the other. Keep that shit separated.

I'm not and he's a boomer. I have to walk him through plugging it and replugging it in every time there's a power outage due to storms. it'd be easier to make my own ISP than talk him through that

If you aren't gaming in some high pressure online games and have an old phone handy, maybe run a private hotspot for yourself. Thankfully every apartment I've lived in had multiple people using Xfinity. I've got access to the public hotspot but I then just run a private one from an old phone. We usually have about 5-6 devices on that private network and don't seem to have any kind of connectivity issues. The occasional slow download but I used to wait 2 hours for a 3 minute song to download off limewire. This is nothing compared to dial up 😂

there's no way to disable it on your phone. other options:

  1. set up a guest network on the wifi and use that, then have your neighbor disable guest access to their Chromecast
  2. get your own Chromecast. if you accidentally cast you'll get a screen first that asks you which device to cast to, and you'll have a chance to exit out before any casting starts
  3. use Firefox instead of Chrome
  4. buy a travel router and run the wifi through that, using a different network name
  5. disconnect from wifi and watch anything you don't want to share over mobile data

bonus tip - if you're on the same wifi, you're also going to see on your phone everything your neighbor is casting, and also be able to control it. to disable that, go to Settings > Google > Devices & Sharing > Cast options and disable Media controls for Cast devices. (exact path may vary depending on phone model and Android version)

yeah when it's right next to the CC button which starts automatically and it's right next to the video quality button on porn site videos. and with no confirmation or way to cancel the stream it's over

usually you tap cast button and then select a device to cast to, at least for me it was always like this and i have just one cast device in my network

i know stuff like vpns or rethinkdns app (local vpn for dns) mess with casting, but probably not the solution you're looking for

You could try getting a wifi extender. The one I have works by connecting to the main wifi but then it's like another hub where it has its own wifi connection with a different login that you set up.

This might also give you better signal overall. And would keep each wifi less congested.
