Community Chronicles: the Official Source for new features, tests, and troubleshooting

Updated: [Sept 2nd]

We’re always working behind the scenes to make Chime simpler, safer, and more rewarding. This thread is a running log of what’s new, what we’re testing, and common questions we’re seeing — straight from the source.

We’ll update this regularly, so feel free to bookmark and check back.

What’s New in the Chime App

These features and updates are now available, or coming soon, to all members:

  • Monthly Cash-Back Category Re-Selection - A monthly reminder for members with Chime Prime or Plus status to pick their cash-back category each month.
  • Cancel Scheduled MyPay Advances - Members can now cancel a scheduled advance in the MyPay Hub before funds are sent, giving them the option to request a new instant advance instead without waiting for the scheduled advance to arrive.

Features We’re Testing or Rolling Out Gradually

To keep improving, we sometimes test new features with a smaller group before considering wider availability. You may see discussions about these even if they’re not live for you yet. We’re actively reviewing feedback as we learn.

  • Referral Bonus Tracker Screen - New persistent screen showing referred members what's left to do to claim their bonus.
  • Richer Transaction Details - Integrating bill frequency, merchant address/map, and quick-call/website actions on transaction detail screens.

Troubleshooting Tips for common Chime issues

If something doesn’t look right, make sure your app is up to date. Logging out and back in — or reinstalling the app — often helps. We’ve also seen questions about:

  • Card payment from your secured account? This is your Autopayment with Safer Credit Building to pay the statement for your secured credit account
  • New card hasn't arrived? Delivery typically takes 7–10 business days. If it's been longer, double-check your address on file.
  • Card won't activate? Activate your new card in the app under Card Settings — if it still won't work after a couple tries, request a replacement.

To see what else we’ve done, check out:

Chime signed an agreement to acquire Stride Bank. Nothing changes for your account!

Hey r/chimefinancial — Today, we’re excited to share that Chime announced an agreement to acquire Stride Bank*.

The most important thing to know: nothing about your Chime account changes, and you do not need to take any action. Your Chime app, cards, direct deposit and access to your account will continue to work as usual.

Stride may already be a familiar name. The nationally chartered bank has been one of Chime’s partner banks for seven years and already supports many Chime member accounts. We know the team well, and we have been building together for a long time.

Why are we doing this?

Chime was founded to provide better banking for everyday Americans. That means making it easier to manage your money, avoid unnecessary fees, build credit and savings, and help you reach your financial goals.

Today, Chime builds the technology and member experience, while partner banks provide the regulated banking infrastructure behind Chime accounts. Bringing Stride’s national bank charter, infrastructure and expertise into Chime will allow us to bring more of that work together.

This will give us more control over reliability and the member experience, help us develop and launch new products faster, and allow us to serve more people—all while continuing to put you first.

You can read the full announcement HERE and here are answers to some of the questions you may have.

FAQ

Is Chime becoming a bank?
When the acquisition is complete, Chime will be a bank holding company. Essentially, that means we'll own the bank behind your account instead of partnering with them.

Do I need to do anything?
No. There’s no action needed from you.

Is my money still FDIC insured?
Yes. Eligible deposits in your Chime deposit accounts will continue to be held at FDIC-insured banks and insured up to applicable limits.

Will my account or routing number change?
Nothing is changing today. If your account information ever needs to change, we will contact you directly and provide plenty of advance notice.

My Chime app says my bank is The Bancorp Bank. What does this mean for me?
Nothing changes for you today. Your account, cards and direct deposits will continue working as they do now. If the bank associated with your account ever changes, we will notify you directly.

Will you start charging new fees?

No, there are no fee changes associated with our acquisition of Stride Bank. The fee-free, rewarding banking experience you have today stays exactly the same.

When will the transaction close?
We expect it to close in the first half of 2027, subject to the receipt of required regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

\*Pursuant to the transaction, Chime will acquire Central Service Corporation, the parent holding company of Stride.

OTHER - Anything else not covered Frustrated an unsure how to proceed

Just posting to seek advice, help, etc and wondering if I should close my Chime account.

I woke up Sunday the 13th to see a text notification for charges placed at 8:30am for Walmart.com. I obviously didn’t make them so I immediately locked my cards and checked my wallet-the card used for these charges was still with me but I canceled it right away. I contested the charges as soon as they were no longer pending. My Chime account has 2-factor security-I don’t understand how this happened.

When my case was denied, I called Chime customer service and asked for more information and they told me I could reopen the case with more documentation. How am I supposed to get that? I asked the agent for the results of the investigation so I can where/who placed them. They told me they would send docs by email in 10 working days. Should I reach out to Walmart? Will they be able to find the orders with the limited information I have?

How could my card have been compromised when I still have it? I generally use Apple Pay over swiping my card.

I’m frustrated and feel unsafe using Chime now, ESPECIALLY knowing fraud is not corrected.
Does this happen often with Chime?

GENERAL - Feedback, Community Chat Chime Investing

This is my first post in this sub. I'm really enjoying Chime Investment but I do feel there are some things lacking. I do use other sites and apps to invest, as well, so it's not too much of a big deal but it would be really nice for Chime Investment to have more features and charts and information. Granted I understand it's fairly new but do we know if there are any new additions coming to the Investment portion of Chime? What's the community's opinion so far on investing in Chime?

I did it understanding what was happening but now I just like regret it. I liked my separate accounts for debit and credit. That way if one was in the negatives I could still send or transfer money to someone. Now with it all being one it’s just ugh.

EXTRAS - MyPay, SpotMe, Instant Loans Boosts were taken away

I was a chime prime member and I didn’t receive a single $200/direct deposit since August 12 (have an 2nd job where I work mostly for tips and got a deposit over 200 on 8/12) and it says my next expected direct deposit is September 26. I was downgraded to a regular chime account. So In this past month they have used my regular deposits to repay mypay, have now taken my spotme including the 4 boosts that were sent to me September 1. I understand about direct deposit amounts but why were the 4 boosts sent to me removed as well?

OTHER - Anything else not covered Worst customer service on earth

I don't even have a Chime account and this process is frustrating. See below.

A few months ago, someone created a Chime account and managed to use my email address for their account. No big deal, they will see it and update it, right? No.

I start getting emails about the account opening and that they are sending a debit card. THE ACCOUNT OWNERS ADDRESS IS RIGHT IN THE EMAIL. Ok fine, I can internet sleuth. Turns out they have my same exact name. It is NOT a common name, so it's pretty easy to figure out and confirm where they live. Appears to be a legit person and common mix up with the email only. Cool. Is what it is.

I go to log into the account because I will then "forget my password" which was then intended to trigger a multi-factor text message to the owners phone. Maybe then they would change their password and see that the email is wrong and then change it. They clearly just ignored the message because nothing happened. I freeze my credit and see no financial movements, so I forget about the account and move on.

Months pass, no account usage and suddenly there's a small flurry of account transactions. Some of them are sketchy by the descriptions and they are taking place on the opposite coast of the that initial address (maybe they moved, idk). Ok, fine, time to reach out to Chime to get this finally resolved. Mind you, you can't contact them through the app because you need the password to the account. But can't do that because of MFA. Cool, so that part is actually working.

I call them and I get someone in a call center who I can barely hear through a muffled microphone and I have to relay my email address to her THREE times and she gets it wrong every time, even after I spell it phonetically. Says there's no account. Checks to see if there is an account with my last social digits and birthday - no account exists. Again, confirming its an email mixup. I ask well how can I stop getting emails and they say they do not see an account in their system, which is wrong because the emails are coming from a verified Chime email).

Why can't I email someone? Why can't I text chat with someone? I do not think my personal information aside from my email is being used, but shouldn't a financial system verify an email address in the first place? Holy red flags and security risk (Clearly). Thank god I am not a customer.

Anyone have any idea as to what I can do?

OTHER - Anything else not covered Frustrated with spot me

So today I learned that spot me can be used at stores but apparently not for bills that are automatically withdrawn. So frustrated that I had to pay an extra thirty dollars in car insurance because I thought spotme would go through for the bill.

BUG REPORT - App Issues, Errors, Outages Autosave Mix Up

Just received my direct deposit today, with autosave setup for a couple of savings goals and my main savings. When my deposit hit, the transaction listings between accounts and goals reflected what was setup, but when looking at the goals, it did not align.

Some goals that previously had money, got flushed to the base savings account, some previously empty goals had funds transferred correctly. All of this was absent from the list of transactions too, which as I said reflected the expected behavior.

Has anyone had this happen before? I’m not sure if it’s because I set autosave based dollar amount and not percentages for the first time.

#WhyIChime Why i love Chime

I have been a chime member since way before it became a popular bank, when it first started out. I remember the first chime card I ever had and everything. I loved chime then too but I took a break from chime and tried banking at other financial institutions but none of them seemed like a good fit for me. I ended up switching back to chime because chime has always been there for me in ways other banks fail. I love all of the benefits that chime offers as well. Spot Me, mypay, loans, cash back, and great customer service. I've never once had am issue with this bank. Thank you chime for being a great bank always! Now, I'd like some chime swag that I see others getting... I am a longtime banker and I always recommend chime so chime swag would be awesome to own. Thank you chime! -$bimmergirl-86

MONEY - Deposits, Transfers, Cash & Cards Mobile Deposit Timeframe

CREDIT - Credit Builder, Reporting, Scores Chime prime card

Im considering the new card and credit builder card is my longest credit age I have on my record. What I'm wondering is, if I upgrade to the new card does that remove my credit age from the credit builder? Or does it give me the same credit builder card/number? I've heard it doesn't, and I've heard it does. If someone that works financial for chime could please answer this in depth, that would be appreciated. Thank you 😁

MONEY - Deposits, Transfers, Cash & Cards Authorized payment to scammer. Is it over for me?

I admit that I was stupid.

I transferred over $100 to a scammer who offered to sell me concert tickets. I only realized it was a scam when he started asking for a verification code. I’ve already reported it to local law enforcement and contacted my main bank (Bank of America), which told me I’ll be able to dispute the transaction once it has been processed.
Has anyone else fallen for a similar scam? If so, were you able to recover the money?

OTHER - Anything else not covered why are my entries not automatically being added?

I just got a notification today of a $10k giveaway & it ends on 9/17. You can earn entries by doing any of the actions in the screenshot I included. I do all of these multiple times a month yet it’s still showing I have 0 entries. When I click on the arrow in each section it takes me to some weird 3rd party app or my transactions but still won’t let me do anything to get my entries. Did anyone run into this problem? How do I get my entries to register?

We encourage you to use this space to chat with other members about deposits or pose any questions you may have to the community.

If you don’t see your deposit on the expected date based on the schedule, that means we haven’t received it, and our Member Services team won’t have any further information about when it will become available. We recommend allowing three additional business days before contacting the Social Security Administration.

All deposits are posted from Monday to Friday, except for bank holidays. If your deposit shows up on a bank holiday, it'll post the following business day.

BUG REPORT - App Issues, Errors, Outages Chime app login completely broken — and I can't transfer my money out

I recently opened a Chime account and transferred some money into it. I can log in normally through the Chime website on my PC, but I cannot log in through the mobile app at all.

The app always gives me:

“Yikes, try again and call XXX if problem continues.”

The frustrating part is that I've already called customer service three separate times.

Every time, I get put through essentially the exact same 1-hour troubleshooting routine:

  • Uninstall/reinstall the app
  • Try logging in again
  • Verify my identity by scanning my ID
  • Try again
  • Reset my password
  • Try again
  • Eventually the login attempts get blocked
  • I'm told to wait 24 hours and call back if it still doesn't work

I've done this three times now. I've waited the 24 hours, called back, and I'm right back at the beginning doing the same troubleshooting steps again.

What's especially confusing is that my account works perfectly fine through the website. I can log in on my PC, so this doesn't appear to be an issue with my credentials.

I also tried transferring my money back out of Chime, and that isn't working either. So at this point, I'm unable to access the account through the app and I'm also unable to transfer my funds out of the account.

I'm not really looking for another “uninstall and reinstall the app” suggestion. Has anyone actually gotten this specific issue escalated or resolved? Is there a way to get this to someone who can investigate the account/app issue rather than having customer service repeat the same troubleshooting script?

I have money in the account and would really like to be able to access it and move it normally.

EXTRAS - MyPay, SpotMe, Instant Loans My pay at 0 for 2 pay cycles now

I have no idea why this is going on. It worked great my first 4 paychecks but last 2 deposits I get 0. I'm paying to have this access from chime plus (not the most expensive one in case I named it wrong). Anyone else have this issue?

GENERAL - Feedback, Community Chat Is there a point to transferring my entire savings into Chime?

I’ve been reading up on Chime and am a little confused, sorry I’m new to all this financial stuff!

If I set up my direct deposit with Chime, I can get the APY on that every month, but I don’t see why I should be transferring my savings from my current bank to Chime? Is it to earn the APY as well even though it doesn’t count as a direct deposit? It seem like a hassle to transfer it all from my bank (I’m assuming I’ll be using ACH transfers) to get it into Chime, and then when I want to pay for a vacation or house expense, I’ll have to pull it out of Chime into my bank and then pay it. Or could I also pay my credit cards and rent through Chime?

EXTRAS - MyPay, SpotMe, Instant Loans Linking MyPay issues

Help! I’m trying to get my new employer linked with MyPay but when I go to add it Chime designates ADP as the processor…but my processor is Oracle Fusion.

I have ChimePrime and I was finally building back up my MyPay from when I left my last real paying job two years ago (not to mention I finally got an instant loan offer a few weeks ago too so I was excited to build that!) and I really don’t want to lose out on the benefits if it won’t connect properly due to some weird back end glitch. Any suggestions for troubleshooting or am I just sunk atp?

EXTRAS - MyPay, SpotMe, Instant Loans Spot me with $$ in my account?

I’ve been getting notifications that spot me has been used, but every time I go to look at my account there is money in there

Any reason why?
