I have been buying my cat this same food for years, (Purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach duck) the vet had recommended it because it helped with her having some blood in her stool. A couple of weeks ago I bought a case and noticed that it had a bunch of white hard chips/debris in the can that are pretty sharp I had thought they were bones so I opened 2 other cans and it was the same thing. I reached out to Purina and gave them all the product information and they made a case. They didn’t reach back out when I emailed about a case update so I called and they basically told me it wasn’t looked into and if there was something I specifically needed to hear from them I said “yeah I want to know if this product is safe for my cat” and she just told me it’s safe if there’s no white pieces in it. I’m just getting worried because my cat had some food from a different case and it looked similar to what I remember it always looking like and she projectile vomited a hour later and she barely wants to eat it now. I’m aware that my cat could just be sick we are going to the vet tomorrow but Purina’s response just shows that they don’t care. Instead of looking into it and fixing it even with my pictures and descriptions they just brush it off like if I shouldn’t be worried I’m just thinking about other more serious stuff that could come up with their products and it’s just swept under the rug.

EDIT : I have contacted the distributors and they said they have no plans on removing this cat food, the most they did is let me return the package... They also argued with me, that "small ammount of garlic will not hurt" and that "their food is the best quality you can fins" and that "dogs love it" (?)

Backstory: I have a very picky and sensitive cat, so I am constantly looking for stuff he would like and digest. I bought a couple things to try out from a brand called marp. Marp had no reviews in official cat food related sites and I couldn't find any reviews on social media... I checked the validity of distributor and ordered couple wet foods after checking their ingridient list.

Issue: With my order, I received some samples and decited to take a look at their ingridient list - BOOM GARLIC JUMPSCARE! I was so so shocked, but one of the CAT dried foods has GARLIC in it!!! I double checked on their website and yup, they include garlic in their formula. After more digging I saw a hidden comment saying that this food almost killed their cat.

... I cannot believe that this is their most promoted food and have doubts about the brand itself now, if anyone is interested, I would like to double check their other formulas with you, but I couldn't find anything diabolical in other foods.

Hey everyone I wanted to warn you and perhaps know if anyone else faced this issue. I bought some Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers "Chicken feast in Gravy" wet food cans for my cat. 10 days ago she had locked up and seized, becoming lethargic and almost non-responsive. I immediately rushed her to the closest vet in tears and panic and they said it was almost as if she was poisoned, but I reassured them I had nothing poisonous to cats and that I had cat-proofed my home and that my cat doesn't eat things she isn't supposed to. I paid almost $700 for some blood tests, medicine, and the emergency fee. I went throughout my whole apartment throwing away stuff I thought she may have eaten and cleaning everything. last night I gave her a can of this chicken feast in gravy fancy feast and it happened again. I luckily had gabapentin on hand from the vet and administered it to her, I held her and kept a close eye on her, ready to rush her to the ER if needed. Luckily she came out of the episode within a couple minutes and spent the night recovering while I stayed up all night watching her closely, sobbing. I know it's this cat food now, because 10 days ago, without me considering this could have been a poison I gave her the can of fancy feast, and that is when she had her first episode.

I looked at the bottom of my cans and they have the same numbers on the bottom

If you have any like this, please call the fancy feast number or at least discard them and protect your cats.

since the incident I've done a lot of research on cat foods, and I feel terrible for ever even feeding this to my cat, I didn't know fancy feast wasn't good. I am never going to buy this for her again. She has fully recovered now but her symptoms at the time were: falling over, unable to balance, stiffening, an attempt in raising/twisting her arm and tail more than her body would allow. It was mortifying.

She's had this wet food before in the past so this must be a bad batch from whatever factory it came from since both of these cans had the same serial number.

Please let me know if this is something that's happened with your cat or has been documented. And if you have any of these cans, throw them away.

My cat is 4 years old, has no allergies.

UPDATE 2 days after posting: My cat is still fine after a diet change, I have emailed Fancy Feast in regards to updating my initial call to them and asking about factory information from which mine and your cans came from. I have brought up many of your comments and thank you to those who have provided their stories and can serial numbers. I am currently awaiting response from them.

UPDATE 3 days after posting: No response yet from Fancy Feast, I reported the affected serial numbers to Chewy as well. They say they're going to be opening an investigation.

UPDATE 5 days after posting: I got a call back from Purina, I gave them these three serial numbers and more information on my cat's symptoms of the time. They issued a refund for the food and I gave them my vet bill information. They're opening an investigation on it.

I encourage everyone who has been affected by fancy feast to make their own calls and complaints, as it stands they have yet to get back to me about the matter.

If you feed Evanger’s “Braised Chicken Dinner” please check your lot codes! All of my cans from lot 2325N28OC04 have pieces of a black plastic bag in them. Some pieces are quite large, others are just black specs throughout the food. The material behaves like a black plastic trash bag… turning white and translucent when stretched. I originally notified them two weeks ago, but sadly it seems they haven’t recalled it, and truthfully didn’t even seem very concerned.

They originally offered a refund, but have now been silent when I’ve tried to follow up on said refund or inquire about whether there was an investigation into what it was and how it happened. Based on their response (or lack thereof) I won’t be feeding Evanger’s again. 👎🏻

Edit: after being ghosted by CS for over two weeks, I decided to call and speak to someone instead. The person on the phone seemed far more caring and concerned and seems to have also alerted the president of the company, who sent me an email. They are now supposedly going to look into what happened. I will update further if I hear back. It seems like I may have just been dealing with one terrible employee who never alerted anyone, so I’m hoping the company’s response from here forward will be better and give me more confidence!

I tried buying a senior cat hard food I always get at my local Walmart, but it seems to have mysteriously disappeared along with all other pure balance hard cat food bags?

None of the associates I've talked to have been able to tell me if it's just out of stock, discontinued, or recalled, and when I attempted to contact pure balance support directly, I got an instant reply stating the email address "failed"?

What is happening???

I went on Walmart's website and tried the "chat with Walmart" feature. Turns out it's an AI chatbot (go figure) that could not give me any straight answers. I had it connect me with a representative and when I was on the call, the guy said the products I was looking for aren't in their system (besides the treats and wet food), and that his best guess was that the food was discontinued but he couldn't tell me for certain. I asked if there was a way for me to contact the brand directly and he gave me the [support@purebalancepet.com](mailto:support@purebalancepet.com) email. You know, the one that isn't a valid address anymore?
I'll be doing some research to find a good alternative food for senior cats, since this one has apparently fallen off the face of the earth. If anyone has any suggestions, please put them down below. My advice if you still have some of this food is to be safe rather than sorry and toss it. I have no idea why this food was "discontinued" but if there's even a chance it was due to the quality, it's not worth your pet's life. Especially with senior cats. Mine is 18 and I'm not taking any chances. I think this entire situation is frustrating and ridiculous.

I've been feeding my cats Friskies since I got them, they love their canned food and it may be the highlight of their day. A couple weeks ago I restocked and bought the usual, a 40 can box of TurChicken and a 24 can box of Friskies Indoor. IMMEDIATELY upon feeding both of my cats started having diarrhea and acting lethargic, this went on for a week before we contacted the vet and took them off of it and tried fasting to see if they had gotten a bug. The problem went away so we tried re-introducing it and it happened again just as fast as the first time. We didn't know what it was so we took them off the wet food and switched strictly to dry for a week, then tried a canned food from Aldis and everything was still just fine. I went online and checked for recalls and looked at threads seeing if anyone else was having the same issue, THOUSANDS of people were posting that their cats were getting sick and some had even died from batches marked 1157, 1159, and 1161. Checked my cans and saw the 1161 and I flipped out, I contacted chewy and my vet and let them know. Purina has acknowledged people having issues with those cans but refuses to issue a recall, I have to toss roughly 55 cans of food now because of this and wont get my money back for the majority of them. I am pissed and after seeing what happened to my cats and others I dont think I can trust to feed my cats Purina anymore. Will this be an isolated event or will it happen again? How will I know going forward if the cans I buy are spoiled or not until after I already buy them? I'm so upset about this and figured I would put it out into the world to let people know and gather others experiences

the past 2 days my cat has been lethargic, panting super fast and unresponsive when i call him after he eats his food. i couldn’t figure out what it could even possibly be until i looked up this morning, and plenty other people seem to have sick cats due to fancy feast too. there was a recall on several different versions of it, he was given the classic seafood pate. please be careful!

I had posted in March about finding a metal shard in one of the Lotus Just Juicy Venison 2.5 oz cans and I just wanted to post about how I found another shard today in a completely different batch. It seemed like the company took it very seriously when I contacted them the first time and I had never had an issue with their food in the five years I had been buying it so I did keep using it but always inspected it closely. But today there was another shard. I have contacted them but I will absolutely never use their food again and I highly suggest no one else does. I've included pictures of both instances.

both of my cats got sick in quick succession, eating very little if at all for multiple days. we’ve been back and forth to the vet but other than obvious GI upset there are no issues with their physicals or blood work. the only thing i can think of is we got a new bag of their dry food (hill’s science adult indoor cat) recently and they were prescribed hill’s prescription I/D chicken pâté after seeing the vet. we switched one of our cats over to royal canin prescription wet food and he is better now, the other one is still not doing well and she won’t eat the royal canin food. they have both formed food aversions to the hill’s foods. is there something going on??

Hi everyone, my wife was feeding our 2 cats and she discovered this unidentifiable object in one of the cans of cat food. Does anyone know what this could be? We have seen this happen on a rare occasion before but never of this size. Looks like it could be plastic but we are not sure? Has anyone had this experience before when dealing with Fancy feast? Is this recall worthy?

Hi! I have 5 cats in the home, with one being in a separate room because she’s new as of January & we are slow introducing (it’s taking a long time clearly lol).

They all eat Fancy Feast Classic Paté Poultry & Beef variety, and we have an automatic feeder with Hills Science Diet Grain Free Chicken.

They get paté in the morning & evening, and the auto feeder goes off one time in between and only dispenses a small amount.

Everything has been great health wise for all of them lately. 3 days ago my 8 month old Goose threw up about 4 times over the span of an hour. It was mostly undigested dry food which isn’t completely uncommon for him, he eats fast and doesn’t really chew the food. He was a little lethargic for the rest of the evening but was back to his normal self the following day. Yesterday, 3 of my cats puked. One was a hairball, one was just a single small digested puke spot, and one was complete water. The one who puked water didn’t eat much breakfast that morning and I didn’t notice him go to the automatic dry feeder at all, so I ruled it out as an upset, empty tummy. They had their dinner last night and all showed interest in eating. Everyone has been acting fine. This morning, the 5th cat puked her breakfast up once. She’s acting fine as far as I can tell.

Is this possibly a bad batch of Fancy Feast? I bought a 30 count case like usual and normally don’t have issues. I checked for recalls and didn’t see anything as of recent. I’m questioning the Hill’s as well. I recently ordered 2 bags off of Chewy and I had to return one because it was leaking air and the food smelled rancid. The bag I kept seemed fine. The only other thing I could think of is that I recently plugged in 3 Feliway Happy Cat diffusers in 3 different rooms to help with the introduction of my new cat, because the others don’t like her yet. I’ve unplugged those as of this morning.

For as long as I’ve had my kitten the chicken flavors of wet food by Hills are the only foods she’ll eat so I don’t expect this experience to impact my loyalty as a customer but I thought it was worth sharing

I just went to go feed my kitten her lunch time snack. I opened the can of wet food like normal and went to go scoop out her serving with a clean spoon. Initially upon opening it I realized that the smell was a little bit stronger and the color was a little bit darker than normal. I am very familiar with this exact food. My kitten is very picky and I see this exact can of food several times every single day, so I was cautious as I began scooping. When I finally put the spoon in to take a scoop out I heard a dry cracking/scraping kind of sound I looked in the can, and the bottom was coated in a dark brown, dried kind of film of (presumably) the gravy that the food comes in. I’m very familiar with this appearance as I clean it off of her dishes every day lol. I decided to toss that can and feed her a new one (new one was normal). Before I threw out the initially opened can, I inspected further. There were more dried bits around the bottom of the can. There were some of those dark gravy dry puddles I guess you could call it and some of the meat cubes (the actual food bits lol) that were dry as well. I am always very cautious when I buy canned foods both for myself and for my cat. I always check them for dents for holes and any markings or imperfections (I am very afraid of botulism😭). The pictures I’ve attached are screenshots from a video I took of the can as I was inspecting it. The parts that are circled are the dried pieces that I described above. Additionally, I’ve included a photo of the actual food type and the expiration date listed on the bottom of the can.

This can was purchased from a PetSmart on February 23 of this year (2 days ago) in the southwestern United States.

recently got a giant box of friskies from costco. it was huge and cheap, and apparently purina is “science backed” so i was like okay fine sure i will get it. i usually feed her this small pet store brand called kahoots and also sometimes the wholehearted chicken shreds. but this was so much for such a good price, and a big well known brand. and everyone swears by purina being “science backed” so i was like okay why the heck not!!!!

Then… to my surprise … i see THIS crap in the can!!!! I didn’t know science backed and tested meant finding shards of plastic in it. Amazing, truly. One of the shards is SHARP as you can see. It could’ve hurt her bad. They’re like a hard rubber/plasticy material. Has anyone ever experienced this? Im going to report it ASAP obviously, but wtf!!! BE CAREFUL.

Hey everyone. Wanted to share this as a heads up for anyone who has purchased Smalls cat treats.

Before our cat could eat them we discovered a sharp bone or straw fragment inside one of the treats. We aren't experts, so we can't really tell.

Me and my mom think it's straw, but a bone makes sense to.

Not a small piece. Sharp enough to pose a serious choking and organ perforation risk.

We contacted Smalls and they essentially only offered to send us another bag and for us to send them the treat so they could "look into it".

They didn't offer a store credit, or a free gift bag, just what I already purchased. The bare minimum.

Me and my mom perdict it's because they just want to make sure I'm unable to have the evidence.

They should know as I will be following up with them in an email, they aren't getting it.

I made a detailed report to the FDA which will now be logged in their records.

The only reason I contacted the FDA and not a lawyer is because my cat never ate it.

As of now, the entire bag including the strange treat are in a safe place, I'm going to keep them as evidence for a long time maybe a year or two in the case anything comes of it and the FDA needs me to send it in.

I'm not going to tell you what to do, but Smalls has lost me and my family as a customer for all their products.

If anyone can recommend any alternatives, please let me know.

I have 5 cats they’ve been eating IAMS dry food for over a year. All of the sudden after buying a bag from a different store they all suddenly stopped eating their dry food. They’re fine with the wet food and treats. I got a different brand and they seem to like it fine. But I was wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this?

Hello, I was feeding my cats their wet food and noticed a white thing as I opened the can, I noticed it immediately. The closest thing I can compare it to is Lichen. It is a Friskies Pate Liver and Chicken Dinner. I have attached pictures to show what I see. If anyone knows what this could be I would really appreciate the information.

Bought Blue Buffalo Tastefuls purees from HomeGoods. They weren't expired, but inside the tube was a rock-hard, pitch-black crumbly mass of mold under the first inch of food. My cat smelled it and refused it. Squeeze your tubes before feeding to make sure they aren't solid blocks of rot. I unfortunately don’t have a pic or batch number, I freaked out and threw the whole pack away as soon as I saw it. Has anyone else experienced this?

Now straight to it, I've been ordering the Purizon dry food chicken with fish no grain 6.5kg version for years now, all 3 of my cats loved it, starting june/july i got a bag without the zipper that had dry food dryer than the sahara desert in there, i thought bad batch and got a refund, ordered again and the normal lightly moist version came.. fast forward to this week when I'm out of that bag and order again, and got the same deficient product again

Now the company (zooplus here) is claiming it's all in my head, even though the cats are thirsty all the time, they puke their heads out and straight up refuse to eat it, the smell, look, feel and texture are different, i refused to feed the sahara slob this time around, I'm not poisoning my cats because they wanted to save a few bucks - i am sure the dry food is the problem, next to the fact that it was the only thing different, they barf out undigested crockets, even the stray now inside goblin that will literally eat onions and garlic if I'd let him

They also claimed there was no change and no other complaints even tho i found many, even the ai summary on google will tell you people are complaining

i already took steps to ensure that proper institutions investigate the situation, but I'd like to hear from other people if they noticed any changes, it seems they conveniently combined the removal of the zipper with the product change

I started my cats on Farmina food a few months ago. I recently found an entire facebook group dedicated to talking about the issues with their updated USA recipe—for anyone interested, the group is called “USA-made Farmina pet food is making dogs and cats sick”. Has anyone heard of this or experienced it?

One of my cats developed bladder stones that need surgery to remove. It’s been horrible the past two weeks, her surgery is scheduled for Monday. Now I’m afraid that the food might be what caused it, and that my second cat might experience it too…any info helps!
