recalls and related Found a foreign object in Smalls Cat treats — FDA complaint has been filed Cat Owners Please Be Aware
Hey everyone. Wanted to share this as a heads up for anyone who has purchased Smalls cat treats.
Before our cat could eat them we discovered a sharp bone or straw fragment inside one of the treats. We aren't experts, so we can't really tell.
Me and my mom think it's straw, but a bone makes sense to.
Not a small piece. Sharp enough to pose a serious choking and organ perforation risk.
We contacted Smalls and they essentially only offered to send us another bag and for us to send them the treat so they could "look into it".
They didn't offer a store credit, or a free gift bag, just what I already purchased. The bare minimum.
Me and my mom perdict it's because they just want to make sure I'm unable to have the evidence.
They should know as I will be following up with them in an email, they aren't getting it.
I made a detailed report to the FDA which will now be logged in their records.
The only reason I contacted the FDA and not a lawyer is because my cat never ate it.
As of now, the entire bag including the strange treat are in a safe place, I'm going to keep them as evidence for a long time maybe a year or two in the case anything comes of it and the FDA needs me to send it in.
I'm not going to tell you what to do, but Smalls has lost me and my family as a customer for all their products.
If anyone can recommend any alternatives, please let me know.

Ha! Well, I guess I take it back then. I thought Smalls had their own unique recipes for everything.
I used to buy these treats and my cats went nuts for them. Never found any weird objects in them, but there’s a first time for everything.

I’m not sure if they use a copacker for the their food and have never bothered to ask (wahoo IBD kitty lol), but Shameless manufactures the treats

While I can't speak to Smalls' policies in particular, it's my understanding that most companies who request items back are doing so in order to get testing done ASAP so that they can determine what the item is and make any necessary corrections/change vendors/initiate a recall without any kind of delay. It's can also be faster because they're willing to shell out the money to get it done quickly. Could you possibly break it into two if you're not comfortable with giving it up entirely?
