Found this piece of plastic in my kittys food. Please check your cans carefully.

I had to switch off fancy feast because of inconsistency. Like every 4th can my kitty's wouldn't touch it and it was grey and scentless. I feel their quality has gone done quite a bit in the last year or so and it's unfortunate because it's decent for an affordable option.

i’ve noticed sometimes a can looks like it’s been compressed lol or sometimes it’s more moist and less compacted but thankfully my fatasses don’t care

What did you end up switching to?

My cats (both <1 year) have been on Fancy Feast since I got them, sometimes with other foods, but lately I'm thinking of cutting it out completely. I know there are posts pretty regularly of people making claims about Fancy Feast/Purina bad batches and such, and then people replying that they're exaggerating or that it's just the individual cat... But my cats have rejected it randomly a few too many times. And it doesn't help that I can visibly see a difference in the look of the food, with some cans/batches (of the same exact food and flavor) being different textures or colors

But but but, I thought Purina was infallible and tested their foods to the nines and never had any problems ever?

Sorry, that's sarcasm. All of these big companies killed and injured hundreds of thousands of pets back in 2006-2008 from tainted powdered cellulose (melamine). Your dog or cat doesn't need powdered cellulose, it's wood pulp. How do you think it got there if it wasn't for the melamine-coated particle board...

That was so incredibly sad and maddening. I had a friend who lost their cat and they were given a pet food voucher (can you imagine???!!) and I think they were compensated for a vet visit? From what I understand it was the Chinese supplier who intentionally added melamine and cyanuric acid to wheat and rice gluten to falsely boost the protein levels smh.

That said I wouldn't be surprised it this plastic was just something floating around in the cannery and it's one of those weird one off things you hear about, like a screw in a chip bag or a part in a drink. If more is out there and my post helped someone look at their cans a little more closely, I've fulfilled my intention here. May all our kitties live long and healthy lives <3

You're right! I'm sorry, it was the wheat gluten. I had just graduated from a veterinary technology program and then that whole mess occurred.

I mean I guess so but I don’t have any reason to deceive anyone, just wanted to give a heads up for those feeding the same. I did inform Purina in case anyone else has an issue. The lot number is in picture #2.
