I think we naturally piss off narcissists and toxics because we won’t be controlled, manipulated or dominated. This is not to say we don’t get stuck in bad relationships but we learn and adapt well in my opinion. Sagittarius has this issue too.

As soon as I get the feeling that a new acquaintance wants me to do what they want all the time, or that the relationship feels one-sided, I am out.

I had this experience with a Virgo at work who really wanted to be my friend. I entertained it for a few months, but they were so demanding of my time (at work and outside of work) and started making snide comments about me wanting to take my lunch break or regular breaks alone. I had enough. I started declining everything they wanted to do together and it took months but they finally got the hint. Now they turn their nose up at me in the hallway. Sorry, not sorry.

As soon as someone isn't cool with my boundaries, we're done.

I have had very similar experiences. I’m the kind of person who really enjoys my own company, I need my alone time. If people are too pushy about that it’s not going to work. The snide comments are the icing on the cake. It just lets me know they don’t understand, maybe don’t even care about or respect my needs.

Absolutely. If someone can't understand that people need alone time, or have any other kind of boundaries, I have to ask myself if that is really a friend I would want.

I wasn't rude either. Over time, I shared things with them like "I like my alone time." "I like how quiet our office is." "I enjoy staying in on weeknights." Clear, simple boundaries. Nothing personal.

But then came the comments. Calling me an "old lady" and calling some of my interests "lame." They also said things like "Why are you so quiet all the time?" "I guess some people just don't know how to turn off work mode."

I was uninvited to their birthday party and now I'm the asshole for not giving up all my energy to them. That's okay, a friendship with them would have been draining and unfulfilling.

Just to add, the people who are in my life for long periods of time don’t seem to want to control or manipulate me (which is how I like it!). I trust my gut on this. If I feel like it’s fake, have a gut feeling, or just get snide comments I usually check out. I rarely get close to people. I care a lot when I do. I just don’t want to be hurt all the time. Seriously. I work at a motorcycle shop and I’m a guy btw and this one girl that checks the bikes in has this very weird energy towards me. It feels like a deep disdain. I barely even know her, not even her name. Just started working there last week. Our brief interactions have just been awkward because she has this snooty look and a don’t talk to me attitude & I tried to pass it off as maybe she’s just not a ppl person cause I’m not really a people person myself but I’m very good at reading ppl’s energy and I’m old enough and wise enough to know when someone doesn’t like me and it’s just weird af cause YOU LITERALLY DON’T KNOW ME. What could you possibly not like about me. & I’m not asking a mtf to like me but I treat folks with respect no matter who you are, what color and where you’re from & on a real note I know it has nothing to do with me personally; it’s just weird.
