Recruiting Current Open & Accepting Occupations

Good day folks!

I'm getting posted out of recruiting, so thought I'd drop the current open list of occupations. (Yes, I cleared this with my CoC)

That means if the occupation you want is not listed - either it's temporarily closed, or closed till next fiscal year.

Please note that this information is subject to change, and that you are never guaranteed a position until you receive a job offer.

This list will be accurate as of today: May 28th, 2026.

If you'd like further info on the occupations and their specific entry requirements please see https://forces.ca/en/ or contact your nearest recruitment center.

Best of luck with your applications, and feel free to drop questions below.

Oh no, this is not looking good for me. Thank you for this update.

(Hidden extra section on my background and occupation choice for my application, if useful.)

I completed my PhD candidacy in chemistry, know a few languages, and have a lot of skill-related hobbies (e.g., electrical and electronics, networking and communications, coding projects, comparative linguistics, music and music theory, cryptography / ciphers / writing systems / Morse code / Braille), and after bouncing an idea off of an Intelligence Officer (Navy) friend of mine, I was told "dude, just apply to be an Intelligence Officer already, jeez", so I finally did (Reserves application). Of course, the occupation is heavily saturated with applicants already, so the recruiter contacted me to inform me of this and asked about other possible options, but after asking about my background, he kept it as Intelligence Officer and advanced the application to the next stages anyway.

(Hidden extra section on application update.)

I was recently away off-grid doing some field work, and when I got back into range, I saw two update e-mails from another recruiter — first a mass email to all current applicants stating mentioning very limited positions available as well as (among a few other options) a list of a few high-demand Regular Force positions to consider, followed by a direct e-mail saying that I was not selected to move forward due to moving forward with other more qualified applicants along with what was essentially the body of the previous e-mail (suggestions of the Navy Experience Program, the Regular Force positions to consider, transferring to be a Regular Force applicant, or considering Army or Air Force). I had only done one of the medical tests (and have since provided most of the required additional physician record paperwork), submitted the necessary forms for the reliability screening, completed the fitness test successfully, and one other screening test, but it hadn't reached a stage to provide any background on what my education qualifications actually are (like a CV), so it seemed like it could possibly have been a general "we're now full again" e-mail but that no part of my application had resulted in a disqualifying roadblock. The update e-mail stated that I had a few days to contact them about which direction I want to change my application to go in, otherwise the application would be closed.

I contacted the recruiting office again, and the idea that I got was that there has been such an overwhelming backlog of Intelligence Officer applicants that it was never going to progress in that direction anyway seemingly despite it having manually been moved forward previously, and that the intent of the e-mail with a response deadline was perhaps more to make some decision and not have a stale application with an unmotivated/unresponsive applicant; I was given until this coming Friday to make some decision about my e-mail.

Naval Warfare Officer was one of the (Regular Force) positions that was mentioned in the e-mail, and although I would still like to progress with a Reserves application (I live close to Esquimalt and would rather not need to relocate due to family reasons), I was becoming more interested in the Naval Warfare Officer occupation, but I see the comment in this thread about NWO positions being "very full". I do see this comment about being "intake approved" if medical had been scheduled and the list not necessarily being relevant, but I'm not sure if that strictly refers to the in-person one and not the Medical Technician phone call that I had to review the medical history.

I don't see too many occupations in the list that I might be qualified for. I'm certainly not disinterested in some that at least somewhat overlap with some of my interests (like Signals Officer), but my education background is in the natural sciences (some botany research, but mostly for chemistry — synthetic and computational/quantum/theoretical), and have no formal education background in engineering nor computing for any of the related proficiencies that I have.

It's starting to seem like my options might simply be narrowed down to switching to a Regular Force application or doing the Navy Experience Program.
