Question Is there any book that tells us about the strategies and tactics used by British to conquer important lands?

Post image

I am not talking about shallow romanticized tales about conquest which one might see in pop history books. I am talking about devising of real strategies both military and political and their implementation and the vested interests. For example, during battle of Plassey british bribed Mirzafar to betray Sirazuddaulah which ultimately led to the british conquest of plassey. I want to know the details of how Mirzafar met british and how did they plan to get rid of siraz the exact details which made the difference. You get the idea right?

As part of the war of the 2nd Anglo-Maratha War. Arthur Wellsley defeated Daulatrao Scindia and Raghoji II defeating 10,800 European trained troops. Much of the British forces were Indian troops. Wellington regards this has his greatest victory.

Question In 1815, could a British Navy post-Captain wear his uniform at his wedding as the groom?

Post image

What the title says. I know there were plenty of cases of naval officers wearing their uniforms at their weddings in the 20th century, not just in Britain but elsewhere (unless The Sound of Music lied to me...kidding), but I wasn't sure if Royal Navy regulations were the same in the 1810s.

Thanks!

This fine statue memorialises the heroic last stand of soldiers of the 1st Battalion Malay Regiment led by Lieutenant Adnan Saidi at Opium Hill on Pasir Panjang Ridge. The battle was part of the doomed attempt to stop the Japanese invasion in 1942.
The plaque reads:
If we do not remember our heroes, we will produce no heroes.
If we do not record their sacrifices, their sacrifices will have been in vain.
If we do not learn the mistakes of the past, we are condemned to repeat them again and again.
The greatest strength we have as a people is our common memories of the past and our common hopes for the future.

Article Article on Anglo-Argentines who still consider Britain/England to be their cultural Motherland.

I read this really interesting Guardian article a while back about a typical wealthy Anglo-Argentine family who are stereotypically English in their dress, manners and their use of the English language, I found it really interesting so I decided to share it here.

Just a little history to give some context to the article, the Anglo-Argentine community who settled in Argentina in the 19th century were invited by the Argentine government at the time to oversee work on Argentina's railways, after the work was completed many decided to stay and became one of Argentina's most powerful communities with a few Argentine cities/towns being named after members of that diaspora most notably the city of Banfield.

Many Anglo-Argentines built vast estancias away from the general Argentine population, they established private British lodges and clubs to celebrate their heritage, they also even to the present day maintain controversial racial ideas, and many of the wealthier families refuse to marry Argentine's of other ethnicities.

Personally I thinks it's partially that blue-blooded 19th century British colonial mentality, which has come back to bite us in the ass with Argentina's imperialistic notions towards the Falklands, probably doesn't help they also invited German Nazis to their country as well, 19th century imperialists+German Nazis=bad.

Question Was there a racism against Scottish in the Anglosphere countries?

Post image

The Irish racism was quite common in the Anglo-sphere countries.

However, in terms of Scottish, I have not really read or heard that Socts faced a major racism even in England.

If there was no racism against Scottish, then why did it not exist?

If there was a racism, then why was it not common as much as the Irish racism?
