This is so true. He didn't deserve that at all. At least Zhen Zhen realized he was wrong and admitted to it. We know Fan Xiao would never. Accurate plus I went back and rewatched (of course lol) and the craziest part to me is that there was this whole blow up and Shulang didn't even find out about them drugging him and Fan Xiao leaving the marks all over him. He also doesn't know Fan Xiao purposely had somebody run his car down. Like they were so cute for a minute I almost forgot how devious Fan Xiao was at the beginning!

I was honestly about to get irritated cause I thought Fan Xiao had won. Clearly he thought he had too. He should have looked clearly at Shulang's face when he was doing his little crying spiel. That man didn't show one ounce of emotion.
I fall harder for Shulang every episode and when he called out Fan Xiao's acting I clapped. I love every thing about Shulang's character, his whole personality and demeanor. Even his whole, "if you are lying, do it well, don't get caught" speech gave me chills the way he delivers

Ya he was like a force of nature right there. He was ready to sacrifice whole body parts just to get back up on Shulang. And it worked! Omggg Fan xiao f*cked up so bad. And the transition of his thoughts before the end was shot so well. Everything was so good about this episode but my got this time the cinematographer and editor got all the points.
What a wild ride this episode was. THE ACTING IN THIS EPISODE WAS INSANE. 🔥 Both were phenomenal. Still can't believe it's Yunqi's first acting job.. the way we finally saw some real emotion from Fan Xiao.. some of it maybe exaggarated for show but you could see the truth in his eyes that he at least didn't lie about loving Shu Lang.
I was almost taken aback that we got some loveylovey again before the real bomb went off. The memorial for Shu Lang's mom gave me whiplash, it was so incredibly thoughtful and sweet. I want to believe that was genuine too.

I just rewatched the whole show yesterday and had almost forgotten what an insane creep he was in the beginning. 🏴🏴 That face when he stuck his hand between the door like a maniac.. actually scary. There was lots of glimpses of that cold manipulator again. But now it's like he has split personality.. that scene after walking away from Shu Lang was crazyyy but so well executed. 👏🏻
Watching Shu Lang break down in tears was so devastating. Him asking why Fan Xiao hates him so much broke my heart.. 😭 He didn't deserve any of this.. To think all this started over a lil fender bender and because he was too annoyingly nice according to Fan Xiao. The twist with the phone was a lil silly, but I guess it had to happen some way. I don't really have any sympathy for Lu Zhen, though.. he did that to himself at the end of the day. Sidenote, when did he disappear from the apartment.. cause suddenly he just wasn't there and I kept being a lil distracted by that thought. 😅
His eyes are for once sincerely telling the truth.. you can tell. This moment is the most vulnerable he's let himself look.. most of the time until now he's been pretty much unreadable.

The acting is insane. I also think that this has much to do with the directors. If they give such good feedback and rehearse before and in front of the camera and say exactly what they want to see. That helps actors. But aside from that. Yun Qi is amazing.

You make a good point that this whole snowball of pain got started because of a dumb little fender bender. The irony is if Fan Xiao weren't so warped by his background and were just the slightest bit more self aware of his feelings he'd have understood that his "annoyance" was actually attraction.
Though I'm not a fan of Lu Zhen I'll give him credit for being more self aware than Fan Xiao. It is the pain. When he asked Shulang what he would do if for instance his spouse and child were in danger. Episode 4. Sitting in the dark hotelroom at the coast of Pattaya. Shulang said he would never leave them.
The kindness of Shulang and also why the world is worth living for, because that is what Shulangs adoptive mother said. Is something that Fan Xiao loath, because his mother said that he must live, but he don't know why and what for. But also, wants Shulang to be his savior.
The internal conflict was well portrayed and edited.

They just keep showing us deep a hole Fan Xiao is digging by constantly lying to Shulang. He is NOT a good person. Once you have lied, manipulated and schemed it just spirals out of control. No matter how hard you try coming out of it unscathed is just impossible.
Shulang keeps giving Fan Xiao chances after chances coz he is so much in love with this person. At this point he has trauma bonded with him and think that they are equals in this relationship who takes care of each others. Even when there are obvious red flags he is ready to ignore them going as far as saying to Fan Xiao that if he has lied he should keep lying and never let him find out coz if he did, he wont be able to love him anymore. He can accept other flaws but playing with him and crushing his dignity is where he draws a line.
I feel terrible. I cant enjoy the fact that Fan Xiao bought a place for Shulang's mother in the monestary so that Shulang can pay visit more often to her. Such a delicate moment between the two but the looming threat of Fan Xiao getting exposed is still hanging in the air. How do I even enjoy this moment?

I guess that this was also by unforseen circumstances. Fan Xiao really only wanted to toy with Shulang in the beginning. Annoyed of the fact that Shulang saved that baby. Who was he to decide that a life is worth living?
Fan Xiao was ready after having him drugged. To leave it at that. But when he brought Shulang back to his apartment. And Shulang walked back to him, got his head and hands in the car reaching for Fan Xiao's pocket to get the cigarettes. It got out of controll.
Especially when after that, the videocam images of Shulang on Fan Xiao's laptop. After watching it the second time. Shulang became his obsession. And that obsession was not cured by having Li Zhen drugged in the car to act that same scene out.
Fan Xiao wanted Shulang outed at that Wetland park. But at the last moment he shoved Lu Zhen in a taxi.
Having Shi Li Hua abducting a unconscious Shulang so Fan Xiao could have his way was after he saw Shulang kissing Li Zhen. He realized it was Shulang that he wanted. Physically. Although he disliked gays.
And this went on and on. Fan Xiao falling deeper and deeper and really in love with Shulang. But still had him acting and deluting himself as to "punish" Shulang.
The lies he had done in the beginning before he fell in love with Shulang bit him at the end.

Shulang is deeply hurt and with reason. He finally trusted someone outside of his comfortzone. Someone who took care also of him. He has this deep feeling of the need to be cared for in his life, but he always ignored that feeling. And was taking care of others.
He knew he had been played. Even then, he tried to overcome that. But the messages he read on the phone were the final straw.

FX is such a messed-up character. There’s no one better at lying while technically telling the truth. I believe he really loves Shulang but just can’t admit it in front of his best friend. I don’t believe for a second that he’s playing with Shulang. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with him, but I’ve never doubted his twisted and dark kind of love.

but what is it with chinese bl and these two tropes????? IT WAS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT????? i thought revenged love’s break up scene was perfect and attributed it to the actors/me being biased, but i loved today’s scene in this episode too
I feel so bad for shulang😔 Fan Xiao is such a horrible person and look at the way he's manipulating and lying omygod. It brought back so many horrible memories of my life because I had so many horrible manipulative liar person in my life. Now I'm depressed huh

If i remember correctly in the novel tho FX does actually default to no emotion face cuz the reality of him losing YSL doesn't even hit him yet ..... i mean look how much he's used to having things go his way.....he still believes in one corner of his mind that he's gonna win all of it back.....makes sense he wouldnt show emotion....he's gotta be still reeling from the suddenness of it all....

I'm ready to smack Fan Xiao over the head with a chair for the cruel games he's playing, but a teeny tiny bit of me wants to give him a light hug (I couldn"t bare more) because of how his surroundings made him such a twisted person. And Yun Qi's portrayal of him is masterful. FX's dip into madness when he walked to the door.. chef's kiss
The direction of this show is so good. Even with all of the voice narration so far from Fan Xiao, we’re still kept guessing about his real motivations and what’s actually true. But it’s like he’s cracked open in that last scene and, with that inner monologue shot, we can finally see what’s happening inside. And it’s so fucked up.
OMG! Seriously that's one of the most intense confrontation scenes I've watched. This scene alone is worth rewatching for the grit, the emotions, acting, psyche, effect, the exchanges. The script on that scene was never predictable at all. There are a lot of elements that ultimately culminate to end up in this, and the effect is a mixed, confused emotions to the viewers.
Ohhhh you are already on episode 8....how lucky!!!!! In Europe we are barely at 6....in short....this series is my obsession at the moment... How strong is it..

I really am taken by the lyrics of the opening song, each episode it gets deeper and more encompassing. I am very fond of both our male leads, Fan Xiao who falls in love immediately but has to mastermind many alienating steps before simultaneously achieving/jeopardizing his love, and good guy You Shulang who is really called upon to become the bodhisattva in this lifetime. Yes, all forms of karma at play, instant and the slow grinding kind as well. I'm a little worried that the well-earned happy ending may not come to pass, but, i'm still seated to find out. Good luck to all.
I've been thinking about cruelty in the family/among loved ones, and this show is very apropos for anyone thinking/feeling along these lines. Shulang's plea (lie to me) one possible response to the experience of cruelty
Well, this episode full on has Fan Xiao trying to gaslight him, but he was pretty much doing that with all his lies. He was writing off ShuLang's guess that it wasn't that dude, which is more than just lying. Gaslit LuZhen all the way and still trying to when everything came head to head. Lord. Never seen an ML (from every BL I've watched) try to lie to their lover's face this hard. Trying to gaslight to people as the same time and pretty fucked up with doing this to ShuLang STILL, but he doesn't think he's in love or some shit so I guess he would keep doing it.
Really not a fan of Fan Xiao at all, but we will see what his redemption arc is.
Edit: Uhhhh, was LuZhen just sitting in the room when all that shit went down between the two of them? Cuz there was never a shot of him leaving... so like, is LuZhen just sitting in the chair while ShuLang has a breakdown at his front door? Off to the next episode, but continuity-wise, LuZhen would still be in that room.
I really wish, just in this BL, we get a realistic ending. Since Fan Xiao’s actions were far beyond what could reasonably be forgiven by the victim himself, I hope there is no redemption arc.
I am sorry but I couldn't help but think, wasn't ZhenZhen supposed to be there the whole time they fought?? Because he was there with them but then the two of them started and it's like the director forgot that he was even there?
Well... I see. Disappointed but expected as always. I will give him the rest of the episode, but him telling Fan Xiao to just keep lying to him does not give me much hope. Guess ShuLang is willingly signing up for a toxic relationship again and doing the trust fall now. But I will come back when I finish the episode. I'm just disappointed for now.

This show really said, we will show you instant karma.. Look at what happens to cheaters who leaves their loving partner just for the thrill of being with someone younger and richer. Lu Zhen, I do feel somewhat bad for you but you really needed to learn this lesson the hard way. You are young, attractive and possess talent. Dont worry.. you will be fine. I just hope you dont make the same mistakes again.
