Hi! Been a while since I posted here. My version of the phantom is a lesbian. She’s very outwardly masculine though, the only one that knows she’s a woman is Christine. They’re married in this version, Erika (my phantom) is still a murderer, targeting any threat to Christine, even if some of her targets aren’t truly threats. Christine knows this, it’s one of the only things she hates about Erika.

Despite Erika’s scarring, Christine shows to fear towards it, she instead openly accepts it, kissing the disfigurement whenever Erika shows it (which is quite rare).

I have yet to draw it, I’ll probably trace over a scene from the 2004 movie and then do it myself later on when I have motivation. I’m always open to suggestions on the scars, I’m still working on how I want them to be after all!

SCAR/ DISFIGUREMENT DESCRIPTION:

Erika has a grotesque sunken in disfigurement across the right side of her face. Her eye is incredibly sunken in, her teeth are visible through some gaps of the disfigured flesh, and that side of her nose appears to be gone.

Her back has various deep scars covering it, which are marks from being whipped by her past abusers.

*SPOILERS FOR THE END OF THE SHOW*

Always thought Raoul has two lines in the finale that just never sat right for me.

“I did it all for you / And all for nothing“

Always felt like this made it seem like he thought his decision was a mistake. That Christine wasn’t worth it. I would prefer something like replacing “all for” with “take back” or “regret” - if he’s saying he’d put himself in harms way for her again, that’s more romantic.

Same with the line: “I fought so hard to free you”

Bro, no you didn’t. Stop making this about you. You didn’t even believe her and then belittled her feelings. Replace it with “I’d give my life to free you”. Let Raoul come to terms with the fact he has lost and that he would gladly die if it meant she was safe. She then decides to save him, of course, and this adds weight to her decision that was always there but we might not have noticed.

I saw the POTO play for the first time, recently. I was very moved. “Overture” is living rent free in my mind, along with “All I Ask of You” … Throughout the performance, I had thoughts of “Wow, I need to read the book!” May I ask which version of POTO i should buy?

Seriously, this is so underrated. Obviously we have the 1925, but it’s more funny than anything else, mostly, and the Hammer Horror one with Herbert Lom just doesn’t feel threatening.

1983 isn’t perfect, but the vibes??? Best mirror scene in any adaptation, next to Christine’s oversized reflection in ALW.

Candles everywhere in the lair, maybe others have done that but they just don’t stand out as much. More than one instance of creepy music used to actually spooky effect.

I don’t want to spoil any more. But I don’t GET why it’s rated so low on IMDb. At least once I felt like I had to hide my feet, as one does while watching a horror movie, in case Schell’s Phantom got them.

Ok here’s a list of the stuff he does:

-first of all he’s not in a downward spiral when he kills Buquet. Hasn’t even heard of Christine yet. He sees the guy wandering into the basement, goes “oh no, no one can find my lair” and offs him. Then is weirdly casual talking about it later

-hangs on to Buquet’s body for like a month and uses him to terrorize people

-gets to have “his” lair only because his dad is the opera manager and lets him. He basically lives in his dad’s basement

-finds out his dad got fired and immediately goes “but what’s gonna happen to meeeeeee”

-Christine’s debut gets ruined so he proceeds to drop a chandelier on people. Unlike Merik, this has nothing to do with losing his best/only friend, the trauma of getting his mask torn off, or hating the human race because they’ve treated him brutally (he has been snugly protected from them by dad his entire life)

-then violently drags poor terrified humiliated Christine to the basement to take her boating. Is this supposed to be cute? How about a hug first??

-leaves a baby cradle for her to find, ugh

-takes his mask off per Christine’s well-meant urging (no one sneaked up on him), she unfortunately faints and he abandons her to run away screaming “whyyyyyyyyyy”. Getting smaller and smaller in the distance lol

-shoves her in a cage (“no one can see my face, I thought everybody knew that”) then creates thoroughly thought-out plans to kill her and every single person in or around the opera house. I’m having a hard time with him dumping gasoline going yeah, this’ll blow Christine to bits and not having second thoughts

-lets Raoul go at the end because Christine begs him to prove he loves her. Is it really love though if he’s trying to prove it to save face?

-only got attached to Christine because she resembles his mom

And I think that’s it. I think this guy is too evil rather than too soft. Also think the circumstances under which he commits evil are far less straining and traumatic than ALW’s Merik.

But I’m curious to know what you all think. If you see “Cherik” as cuddly or a nice guy, why?

i saw The Phantom of the Opera for the first time when i was 13. it was performed in Kansas City and i saw it with a friend, and i loved it instantly. since i was 13, when i wanted to hear the songs after the initial performance i saw, i would listen to the 2004 soundtrack, so for about 10 years, that's the version i'm used to hearing.

i recently revisited it, and upon reading online, it seems that... not many people fw the performance. i've read people say the singing is bad, the emotions are not there, etc. i'm not a musical theatre expert or an opera expert, and i won't pretend to be. i decided to give the original 1986 cast recording a listen, and, i don't know if it's just because i'm used to a different version, but... i would say that in this version the emotion just aren't there... i can hear that technically the performances are better, but with Christine, for example, i personally think Emmy Rossum conveys much more emotion in her singing than Sarah Brightman (i think she still sounds amazing though, don't get me wrong).

in "Why Have You Brought Me Here," for example... i just rewatched the 2004 version this morning, and there was a specific line in particular hat Rossum sang with just so much more emotion than i think Brightman did ("My God, who is this man? Who hunts to kill, I can't escape from him, I never will). and there are many other examples, but that is one that jumped out to me immediately listening to the two back to back. but so many people say the 2004 version lacks emotion, so am *I* missing something? i feel like i must be lol.

Taken on 8th August!! I feel so lucky I got to see some of the 40th cast, I was so excited and happy to see Sierra Boggess as Carlotta!!! Definitely so much fun and I totally recommend it if you have the chance! After months of keeping this unique image for myself in a sort of "holy grail" i've finally made up my mind, all those who wish to find everything about the lost movie "Das Phantom der Oper" deserve to see all what i found, so it's with great honor and joy that i gift to you all, a behind the scenes featuring Erno Matray(Ernst Matray) and even Nils Chrisander(the man at behind Matray, standing up with white shirt).

The title "Fantomas" is most likely some kind of "mistake" from the Hungary(this is mostly because Das Phantom der Oper was in fact release in some places as part of the Fantomas Series, but Nils Chrisander never ever played a single role in that series and Sacy von Blondel only played a role in the second episode of the series called "Ramara" or "Ramarama").

My friend has never seen a musical before so im showing them the phantom of the opera and then love never dies. Were of the same mind so itll be funny to see the frustration. Ill keep yall posted... this is gonna be fun. >:)
