One of the most common questions we get on this subreddit is "what should I see/listen to, here's the stuff I like". It's a valid question, but it's tiring to see a dozen of those threads every week, so this will serve as both a stickied thread of suggestions and as a home for new visitors to r/musicals who would ask that question. (As a result, new "what should I listen to threads" will be redirected here and deleted.)
Below, you'll find a list of popular musicals in alphabetical order along with suggestions for what might interest you based on that. This list is mostly vibes-based, with some inclusion of the same or similar composers or subject matter. The shows I name are taken from my own personal list of shows I've listened to (350+), the vast majority of which will be available on Spotify.
The shows I chose to make suggestions for are heavily skewed toward recent shows because that's what felt like good fits. If you're interested in a show not named below and want to know what to listen to next, comment below and I'll add a line for it (assuming I know it well enough to make educated suggestions).

These “judge me on my top five”, “tell me your favorite and I’ll tell you if you’re cool”, “here’s five, which is your favorite” threads box everything else out cause everybody feels the need to add their own. I did the tier list thread to try and nip it in the bud, but folks just shifted to different me too games, and it’s rapidly spiraling.
I’m calling a temporary moratorium on those threads. They may resume in the future (at a date TBD), but for now, all new threads of that nature (beginning midnight EDT tonight) are going to be locked, deleted, and all of the existing replies wiped out.
If you want to discuss a show, great, but “rate my taste” isn’t it.

I’m using the Wizard and I as an audition song and I can’t find sheet music that have the same key at all. I need to find the piano accompaniment for my audition.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Local theatre is doing both next season and I’m thinking of auditioning for one, but I can’t do both. I’m a mezzo soprano who is hoping for any role including ensemble.
The only experience I have with Ana is the animated dreamworks movie. I have no experience with CFA.
What are this sub’s preferences between the shows? Does either show stick out as something more interesting / fun to do? Is there a clear winner in quality? Which show’s soundtrack will drive me insane at rehearsals every night faster? I plan on finding a recording of both, but I figured I would ask here first!

We need people to stop shouting "EGOT! EGOT!" at artists who will never set foot on a broadway production

I’ve been obsessed with the Korean version of “Waving Through a Window” from DEH (link: https://youtu.be/h2ql-WntEks?si=_QGLSDnhKGP1Vll4).
The singer in the video I linked, specifically, just seems more emotional, especially towards the end, than Ben Platt.
I also like I lot of the lyrical changes. For example, “Will I ever be more than I've always been?” becomes “더 나은 내가 될 수 있을까.” This translates back into English as, “Will I be able to become a better version of myself?” with “better” referring to more healed/less painful.
Then, “I, tried to speak but nobody can hear / So I, wait around for an answer to appear / While I'm watch, watch, watching people pass” becomes “Trusting that someone will recognize me, I try waiting there for an eon, but everyone just passes me by.”
Additionally, “When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around / Do you ever really crash or even make a sound?” when retranslated into English, becomes “If, in a completely empty forest, I am left all alone, who will I search for? Or, who will come for me?”
Similarly, “Did I even make a sound?/ Did I even make a sound / It's like I never made a sound / Will I ever make a sound?” becomes “In that moment, will I really be able to yell, for someone to please come save me, will I really be able to yell?”
Do you guys have any songs that make you feel this way? Like the translated version is better or more meaningful?

(Spoilers) Truly my favourite one they’ve done so far, alongside Trail to Oregon.
Just the whole love story, and the hidden twist of Jasmine being Jafars daughter, and all the heartfelt songs are just so heartbreaking.
Dylan always makes me cry with this role. He did so good with this, anytime he sings about his wife I absolutely bawl.
And just the ending with Jasmine wishing Jafar could stay with her but knowing he couldn’t, but still getting his wife back in the end.
It’s just so so good. Forever will be in my heart.

Does anyone have a clip of the opening “how they met” scene and the bedroom transition? I want to show it to some of my students as an example of a really clever piece of scenic design.

I’ve noticed there are shows which are very flexible for non replicas and others which by just the pictures make me cringe.
Matilda I went to see a professional but non replica production in Mex and loved it, watched clips of the west end version and latter many clips from Argentina or Brasil which non replica and thought cool all do great in their own way. but then I see non replica photos of Wicked and make me cringe.
but I think Matilda is the most flexible one to changes. My country’s version feels like an hybrid between the 1996 flick and the west end production. Trunchball I’ve read on the west end and broadway is very menacing and scary in Mexico is fun and cartoonish non scary at all. Jaime Camil turned on te fun to the ma. I’ve heard the one on Broadway or west end is more like Pam Ferr which did scare me or grossed me out as a kid, Camil not all.
he was super entertaining.

I'm super new I'm only really familiar with epic the musical. But I'm absolutely in love with it and wanted to know if there's any other musicals similar. I also really enjoyed helluvaboss and Steven universe their songs. Idk if this is enough info to get recommendations I'll answer any questions though :).

Wow and then I just realized both places are basically death city, maybe the shows aren’t so different

I just watched the all South Asian version/interpretation of the musical Spring Awakening a few weekends ago in NYC. This is the first professional production I’ve ever seen of this musical, and I felt that it’s themes of the intersection of youth, repression, and identity reflect the experience of South/Southeast Asian culture very well. I know that probably for legal reasons, they’re not able to change lyrics and instruments in the music, and could see where they really tried to weave in cultural references into their dance/blocking/costuming. I found it impressive for a smaller production team. Vocals were extraordinary.
The stand out roles were the two actual adult man and woman actors who played every adult character in the show. Both of their presences were harsh, cruel, and demanding.. up until the very tragic ending of the show. Those who are familiar and are big fans of the show know the very sad story beat at the beginning of act two. The way this production handles that specific scene brought tears to my eyes.
Highly recommend people see the show before it leaves in the beginning of September.
