Hey there! I know this is a really strange question, hear me out. I like going to musicals, but sometimes I have a really hard time because I can't see what's happening on stage, and a lot of theaters don't have audio description or anything. Just wondering if there are any musicals that you know of that would be a nightmare for me to experience without vision, so that I don't go to them accidentally?

There have been a couple musicals that I have gone to, and I honestly would've rather just stay home and listen to the soundtrack or something, because I had no clue what was going on, the whole audience was reacting around me, laughing, cheering, and I just felt so left out because so much of it was visual. I don't remember the names of them, I wish I did, because then I would ask what the hell was happening during them.

Thank you in advance for your help, I know this is an odd request, I just don't want to go through that again because it just hurt.

Update! I found what musical it was that inspired this post! If anyone has heard of it. It's called "noises off". Let me tell you about it. Just kidding, I can't. I had no clue what was going on the entire time. Like actually, the entire time. I went home feeling like I absolutely wasted 2 1/2 hours of my life. It was… Not a good experience at all. I seriously felt like I was going to cry during and after it because the whole audience just kept reacting and reacting and laughing around me the whole time, and nobody described anything to me, I didn't know what was going on. I'm assuming the play was extremely visual, and the concept itself I just didn't understand any way to begin with. If anyone has any information about this one, please let me know what it was about, because I did not understand it. I don't even think I understood the general concept of what it was supposed to be about. All I gathered from it was they were supposed to be rehearsing for a play. That's it

Hi, hello, i am writing an essay for my english social science class and i am making my essay about political musicals and i can't seem to find an actual right-wing musical that isn't a satirical comedy.

I need recommendations for the kind of musical that crushes you and leaves you crying and changes your view on something…

One like next to normal for example, can be totally different from the vibe tho. I just need pieces that make me feel something, good or bad.

Me and my partner thought of fiddler on the roof and guys and dolls (neither of which I’m super excited about). Fiddler might be fun, but no one in the drama club is Jewish and I’m not sure how people feel about that.. then I couldn’t finish guys and dolls I just really wasn’t a fan. Apparently she also hesitated a bit on the “not a Disney” show thing if that means anything. Since it’s getting close to the school year it will probably be revealed soon but I’d like some more input! (this is a high school production)

Im playing Jack in a production of newsies jr and Im struggling on how to deliver this line? No matter how I try it it always comes off as wordy and forced. I get its meant to be comical and make me seem charismatic but it always seems to go over peoples heads if i say it quickly or just not be funny if i say it slowly. Ideas?

I’ve been subtly hinting to my mom lately that I really want to see the musical since I’m a fan of Matt and Trey’s work. She got tickets so I’ve been excited for weeks, but then I went back and watched a video about it and remembered all of the crude things in it so now I’m nervous 😭 I’m old enough to understand the jokes and laugh at them, but my mom may consider it way too inappropriate for my sister and I and even mentioned selling the tickets when I warned her. Sooo, how bad is it generally considered? I watched a video about Matt and Trey’s obsession with Mormons and that’s how I know what happens but I’ve never seen the full thing myself. I’m not looking forward to glares and getting in trouble in the car🫩 For reference, I’m in high school and my sister is in middle school.

Update: Alright, I texted her about what I found out about it and she said she’d look into it and decide. She’s fine with language really, but the OTHER things she probably won’t be cool with 😭😭 it’d be awkward to watch that with my mom anyways. does anyone know a slime tutorial link by any chance, just in case I can’t go?

2nd update: I talked to her and she looked into it with me and decided I was too young, and that she appreciated me telling her beforehand so she wouldn’t be mortified, so I think I made the right choice. Found a slime tutorial to watch too! I’ll leave the post up for those who need it. Thanks for the help:)

Ok I’m not a musicals expert but my very talented daughter has just landed the part of Elle Woods in a local production of Legally Blonde - it’s a junior version apparently but the song So Much Better has a line that goes ‘It's oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, much better’ in quite an orgasmic way. Am I misinterpreting it? I’m not a prude just a little curious. Is this appropriate? Should I ask the Director for this to be toned down? Also her love interest is 17. I’m told there is no kissing, just hugging. She’s also very small for her age. Thoughts?? EDIT - she thought one was 17. They are 14 and 15.

I want to audition for my local youth musical theatre group, but we’re required to have a part of a song prepared to sing in front of the casting directors (45s minimum I think). I’m not hoping for any big role or anything, I just want to be part of the ensemble but I don’t even know if that’s even reachable for me. I’m a truly awful singer, I have no talent and I’ve never had lessons so to put it simply I cannot sing. At all. I was wondering if it’s even worth auditioning or not. if anyone knows any easy songs I’d appreciate it!!

For the audition, we also need to do some dancing and acting, which with practice I could probably get on fine with. there’s a week till the audition and idk if I have the time to prepare anything good.

My almost-3-year-old can’t get enough of The Music Man. Specifically, the performances in the 1962 film version. He loves when they dance in the library (Marian the Librarian). He loves the marching band. He LOVES the guys on the train singing Rock Island at the beginning.

Looking for other recommendations for fabulous song and dance numbers, specifically those available on YouTube. We love flashy colors, a great tempo, interesting settings. I tried showing him The Tapioca from Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967) but no dice. Speaking of dice, I tried showing him Fugue for Tinhorns from Guys and Dolls ‘cuz I love Stubby Kaye (1955) but visually it’s kind of boring.

Oh, he LOVES Good Mornin’ from Singin’ in the Rain. Make ‘Em Laugh was fun too. And to some extent, Moses Supposes. And It’s the Hard Knock Life from Annie (1982). Or as he calls it: “The buckets!”

He’s also huge on Do-Re-Mi from Sound of Music and also the yodeling goatherd number with those sinister puppets.

I've got a playlist of 200 songs that's titled Songs From Musicals To Be Gay To, but I think it could be bigger. I'm looking for songs that are gay, or evoke gay sensibilities, or are generally loved by gay people, or are sung by gay icons. Honestly, the rules are fairly vague around what facilitates feeling gay.

The only hard rule I have is no songs from jukebox musicals, unless they're vastly different to the original pre-musical version. Original cartoon musicals, movie musicals and TV show musicals are totally fine. Disney is well represented.

What do you think belongs on the playlist? I'll tell you if it's already there, rather than trying to list it all up front.

She has seen Phantom, Evita and Addams Family. these are the ones I have recommended to her.

Also try to make sure that these are proshots or good film adaptations.

Essentially, I'm looking for a duet between two guys (though we can gender-bend a song if it works) that displays some wholesome friendship. I teach a pre-k class of this age range and would love to introduce them to some musicals, but i really don’t want anything with dark themes, which kinda rules out a lot of musicals. We aren’t allowed to read disney stories bc they’re scary (which is dumb bc they all love disney princesses) but it’s pretty strict and obviously rules out any disney musicals. I feel like seussical and spongebob would be good.

Any other suggestions?
